I'm just a "shade tree" mechanic that turns wrenches for folks in my spare time after work and on the weekends. That being said, I can't tell you how many times people have brought their cars/trucks to me wanting to have a junk yard motor installed cause the dealer or some shop told them theirs was shot. I end up looking at it and find something simple like a bad cam sensor or vacuum leak that's easily repaired

    Great diagnosis.
Just guessing if it is a 5.4 3 valve.
Goes to the dealer. Due to them mucking things up. Dealership assumes engine is blown.
I had heard a lot of mechanics don’t mess with the 5.4 3v. Due to the timing chain issues and will just quote a new crate engine.

Ford dealership located in Alexandria Louisiana tried to do this to me.Told me I needed a new front end on my 1999 F150 what they didn't know was 6 months before I got a whole new front end replaced. They wanted 2,500 dollars my vehicle has 216,000 Miles . So I brought it back to the original place that put the front end on, they raised up my truck and said everything was perfectly fine. I took it to another front end alignment place they put the truck up they also said that was absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle So I called this dealership back and explained what was going on and of course they didn't care as of two years ago I have never spent another dollar at that dealership.

wow and this is coming from the ford dealership now that's crazy, I'm glad the customer didn't fall for their b.s and actually took it to a good honest mechanic for a second opinion

Great diagnostics, taking your time to actually figure out whats wrong. I'll put money on they heard it run with the converter bolts missing and thought it was a rod knock. But if not, i don't know how they did a "compression test" without the starter working.

    • @asherdie
      @asherdie Год назад +1

They probably loosened the converter bolts, and then tried to sell a new engine.

That is why it's important that you find yourself a good mechanic who's Who knows his stuff and love what he do. And you're finding a good mechanic you can take that to the bank

Honest mechanics like us are rare anymore, dealerships have the most incompetent people. I worked at two for a total of 3 months, I quit both because I was the only one who could do more than an oil change

The only work I ever get done at a dealership is warranty. Once out of warranty, I go to a real mechanic. I think working for a dealership is generally so crappy that good mechanics won't go and stay there. BTW, I own two in warranty Ford products.

this is ridiculous!..I had the same thing happen to me last Chistmas when my wife was driving my Mercedes S-Class. I had the car towed to a dealership in Pineville NC. I told them it was the starter when they picked up the car. They said "your engine is locked up!".I laughed and had my car towed to my home. I ordered a new starter based on my 30 years experience of auto mechanics.and proved them wrong. The only thing they gave me was a $56000 bill to replace my engine..yes $56000 dollars!!!

Your a nice mechanic, but here my evaluation on this vehicle.
    1. $95.00 labor +
    2. high resistance in the cable.
    3. Go for the starter. P&l $300.00
    4. Leave the ground cable discounted
5.remove the tranny cover (Why ?)
    6.remove the plugs (Why?)
7.tell customer they need a new engin
    8. Let it rack up storage fees, Garage will deduct it off engin installing.
    9.customer can't afford engin replacement
    10. garage offers to buy vechicles for low bid amount,or a trade in at their shirt tail cousin car lot.
    11 another person RTF Off.

@@heartlandmechanic started out turing wrenches & sanding milk trucks when I was 10 years old for a foster family. My wife has beg me to write a book, or open a U tube site what I seen in the shops, car lots,Auto Auction Lanes, such as iam like you, I have or can't work for a bad dealership.a good mechanics should be able to do a complete shake down on a vehicle with medium milage with in 2 min or less on old vechicles newer ones I won't touch them......really like your channel I have passed this on to 4 of my family members, and several friends...keep up the good work.👍
