I can’t believe so many people haven’t heard them. I’m raising my two boys on music from older artists. That was music
I've never heard Daryl hit a high note on ANY album or any live performance as high as he hits it at the very end after that THREE OCTAVE change!!!
“I need a drink and a quick decision”. They have so many good songs. I won’t even suggest any....just keep going....
The old heads in these comments will probably agree that most 70’s and 80’s hits had to involve a saxophone.😂😂
I was stationed at the naval station in Philadelphia back before Hall and Oates broke it big.Saw them playing clubs.I told my buddies these guys are way to good for clubs.I was right.
Philly loves Hall& Oates💕
I saw them early also, and told my friends the same thing. Same for Molly Hatchet.
Visits not about music but you were at the area and I won't you tell me what are the rumors or the urban legends about the Philadelphia experiment with Nikola Tesla and if you don't know that's cool. If you do know and you been hearing things in your ear please please share share ....👍🔥📢
I saw their last Tour (Big Bam Boom) at their peak, great times.
@@choice12ozborne if you want to learn about it check out RUclips from 1993 interview by Art Bell of coast to coast am with Al Bielek who was along with his brother the top physicist engineers working on it the Philadelphia Experiment
It always amazes me when (usually younger) people say they never heard of Hall & Oates. They are only the most successful music Duo of ALL TIME! It makes me wonder what they were exposed to at home...didn't their parents play the radio at least? Well, now that you're here dig in!
Real Voices and Real Instruments. Real Music. So sad what has happened to music.
They met when they were teenagers and sold 40 million albums. Daryl has a great tv show Live from Daryl's House
Another H&O's hit "Sara Smile"!
That's my favorite Hall and Oates.
Mine too
I wonder how many weddings had this song played???
I went to high school in the 70s and looking back I took the music for granted ! Best decade of music ever and it wasn’t close!
If you never heard of Hall and Oates you been missing out. One of the best duos ever and they still jamming❤️❤️🔥🔥
I really love young people appreciating older music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s! Love your videos👍
Rich Girl, Sara Smile... I can't go for that,
Welcome to Blue-Eyed Soul. These guys are the most successful duo ever, with their music predominately rooted in Motown Soul.
Not Motown, but Philly Soul. They’re from Philly.
@@psiclone23 yep, I know where they are from, I grew up with their music as it happened. However, one of their huge influences and heroes were The Temptations.
@@NOLAgenX everyone's heroes from Philly were Motown bands, but there's a definite difference between Motown and Philly Soul. Philly deserves their props but there's just a difference in the styles.
Hall and Oates are great. Simon and Garfunkel sold 100 million albums and are also in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame. Guess the RIAA forgot about them.
Yep. Alot of fantastic Blue Eyed Soul Singers came from Philly. Len Barry (123), Karen Young (Hot Shot), and Vickie Sue Robinson (Turn The Beat Around). Northern Soul gained Cult Status in England where kids from Council Houses aka Low Income Housing would dance to the msuic on Saturday Night. Sadly enough this song was inspired when John got Stood Up on New Year's Eve back in the day. They are the most successful Duo in Music. Also if you can check out Daryl's Music when he was in The Temptones.
Forget the Bee Gees - this is Philly Soul, blue-eyed division.
Y'know how old folks always say that music used to be so much better? PROOF
Okay we've got a rabbit hole here
“One on one” by Hall and Oates, I was in the Ukraine a year ago and they was playing that song like it just came out. Got to step your game up with Hall and Oates.
One of the many songs they wrote about their friend who died of Cancer. Sara Smile was another.
Sara Smile was for Sara Allen
She was Daryls live in for decades.
Never heard of these guys, well you are in for a surprise! They have so many hits, they were Huge back in the day!
Huge not Hugh
@@rickcooper53 Thanks, Damm spell check!
They're the biggest selling duo of all time
Their song You Make My Dreams Come True just passed 1 billion streams.
This was one of the songs that they both had big singing parts. It was generally Hall signing with Oates as a back up. They should have done more with both their voices being leads. They complimented each other well. They’re consider the best duo in music.
This is Philly all the way
Oh yeah! This song transcends time!
Daryl Hall Has a Show called "Live From Daryl's House" where he invites other Musician, Singers, Rock, Pop, Country and they Jam out to songs of the Invited Guest you should check out some of those Videos
This is the ALL TIME chart toping duo.
More top 10 hits than ANY other duo in history.
Plenty to choose from, but
SARAH SMILES !!! melts my heart every time.
I saw them at Madison Square Garden just before Covid kicked off. It was an amazing show!! They did all their hits.
Try "Baby Come Back," by a band called "Player". They have a similar sound.
I was waiting for you to hear that big finish after the buildup lol. Still gives me goosebumps.
Fun fact: The same key change buildup was used to close out Bee Gees "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love), as the same producer Arif Mardin recommended it.

Hi Scribe! These guys are old school cool! They are funky. Listen to Daryl Hall and Cee Lo Green sing Hall and Oat's song, "I can't go for that". IT IS THE BOMB! George
@Single English Life Here's the link for it...
ruclips.net/video/ATRsYfiVUy8/видео.html
Listen to the original first, though
@Single English Life I figured that you had. I just wanted to provide the link for Scribe within this thread.
So thankful to have been born when I was. Music like this coming out so fast, you couldn’t get to the record shop fast enough. Oh sorry, I don’t think their around anymore but were a great place to go to here & buy the latest music.
It is smooth. All their songs were smooth. They are the top selling duo of all time in the US.
you will flip if you watch Darryl's show "Live from Darryl's House" where he and his band perform w excellent guests... from Smoky Robinson to Todd Rundgren to Aloe Blacc. it's all online.
Don't forget about the episode with the O'Jays or the one where they do Papa Was A Rolling Stone with the guy from Train. They usually do a mix of the guest artist's music and also some from Hall & Oates' catalog, and it's almost always amazing.
I second, it's great.
cheap trick, also
Loved the O'Jays and C low.
@@MrBackbone40 Yes but contrary to popular opinion The O'Jays are from Ohio.
Blue eyed R&B outta Philly. You gotta love and respect it. In the HOF for a reason.
I knew you would love their sound. These guys were huge. 7 Plat albums, Hall of fame. I got to see them in the early eighties in Cincy. Great show. Your next one of theirs should be Sara Smile.
IMHO, this song captures the heartbreak of a breakup more than any other song I've heard.
Song suggestion: The Clash: I Fought the Law
but it doesn't. its not about a breakup. its about they're friend who died of cancer.
The joy I see in your eyes listening to the music I grew up on is priceless,Love your reactions
My favorite Hall and Oates song.
Yesss! The Philly Boy's is in the building! Blue eyed soul at it's best! Hall & Oats one of the coolest! Singing duo's on the planet. 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤❤🎷🎺🎸
This was their Breakthrough Song. It was inspired when John got stood up on New Year's Eve at the last minute. They also represented the last of the Old School in terms of TV Appearances. In The UK they appeared on The Music Show Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test, in The US they did American Bandstand, Solid Gold, The Midnight Special and were one of the very few White Acts to do Soul Train in the 1980's. Besides playing Piano, Daryl like Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney and the Late John Lennon showed his versatility on both Piano & Guitar.
OMG!!...can’t believe you’ve not heard of Hall and Oates!
Somebody’s puttin’ you onto some of the best soul music of the 70s.
Loving your channel!!!!
🙏🏼🤟🏼💜✌🏼
hi love
Grew up on that, check out Daryl's house, hes 73 n still jamming
Philly boys. More blue eyed soul comin' at ya........
The 70s Hall&Oates were fantastic
My favorite blue eyed soul duo. Great production, great vocals. These guys are fine examples and proponents of the "Philly Soul" sound. Their discography is fairly large. Try them doing "Sara Smile", "One On One", "I Can't Go For That", "Rich Girl", "Private Eyes", "Maneater", and "Kiss On My List".
You just opened up a can of worms with this lol . So many great hits to react to !
Sara Smile!
This is why I love your reactions, you are so into the music!!
You be going tooooo in on listening to these oldies😂😭
Hall and Oates are the biggest duo in recording history with 7 #1's in the U.S. alone..
My favorite song by them! Blues, soul, and rock n roll!! Love your reaction!!
Music, the depth of soul has no time capsule. The power to reach beyond time and space, the tone pulls the listener to the exact same moment everyone else who heard it in the past tense and is right now hearing it for the first time. Beautiful!
This came out in 1976 and I saw them in concert last year and they are still This great 👍
I absolutely love these guys. One of my favorite groups....
Your best reaction in my opinion. My head was "vibrating" in time with yours 😊
Been listening to this song since the 70s! The "church up" hahah, i knew exactly what you meant lol, the key change. 😀 You are awesome, keep shining lady. ✌🏽🎼🎤
They are the top selling duo in rock History- stars from mid 70s until late 80s- Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
it's called Blue Eyed Soul, and these guys were the kings
Very newest subscriber here! Could one of the factors that made you enjoy this song so much, be that, since there was no video story, you had to use your other senses more? Videos can be great, but, they're someone else's idea of what the song is about. Whereas, if you hear just the audio, the theater in your mind can make it's own story! Exceptional reaction!
50 years they've been together. Daryl also does solo.
Hall & Oates had a shit ton of hits. You'll enjoy the rabbit hole. My personal faves are this one and Sara Smile.
One of my favorites... loved watching you fully enjoy
These guys grew up listening to Marvin, Otis, The Temptaions,...and it shows. Hall and Oates were all over the radio when I was young along with a lot of other great music. It took a decade or so before I discovered a lot of their influencers.
I'm nominating this for reaction of the week! Loved watching you enjoy that. Thank you!
Try their songs Rich Girl, Sarah Smile and One on One.
Haha the "church-up". I love it.
Scribe, you have to React to: Daryl’s House with Cee Lo Green - I can’t go for that.
Daryl is 74 and still fine as hell...vocals for days!
They had a lot of great songs...this is one of the best
Amazing song from the "Abandoned Luncheonette" album (1973) from the Atlantic Record days of Hall & Oates. Great production from Aretha Franklin's producer Arif Mardin.
Fabulous hall & Oates!!!
Scribe, "You Make My Dreams Come True", "Kiss On My List", and "I Can't Go For That" are next for you!
Yes, check out these songs!!!
My favorite line: "Spending eternity in the city. Let the carbon monoxide choke my thoughts away." Feel free to explore some more Hall & Oates.
Your reactions are great and I can't stop smiling....thanks
“Pretty bodies help dissolve the memories”… classic lyrics!!
They are the most successful duo of all time.
Guitarist in red jacket is GE Smith who was their lead guitarist. He later was the director of the SNL band.
Actually kind of funky, more heartbreaking if you've gone through it,for either gender! I LIKE THE LINE EVERYBODY'S high on consolation!
One of your most beautiful reactions yet! Keep up the great work!!! - Brooklyn Mike
Pure soul
No colors necessary
This is my favorite song of theirs! I love your reaction to it!! Smooth as red velvet! Yes!
One of the funkyest , blues-rock, duos ever.
Philly Soul!
You have to checkout their entire catalog of hits! Smooth music, great duo!!
The second time she listened to it tho, she GOT it
That crescendoing Daryl
Just nails the whole song
Heart wrenching
I remember as a kid hearing this song but didn’t know who sang it thinking it was one of the groups from Motown Records that maybe I hadn’t heard of. I had no idea it was Hall & Oates. I wasn’t aware of Hall & Oates until the 80’s though. I wasn’t as well educated in music history back then as I am now and there is still more to learn. I love this song and thought you had a great reaction to it.
Ohhh I bet you'll like "Rich Girl"
One of my favorite reactions thank you
yeah love for music won that pure reaction
One of my all time favourites! Absolute class!!! Highly recommend you next listen to “Maneater”, “Say It Isn’t So” & “Out of Touch”, just to name but a few of their gems.
Nice to see you feeling every note and delectable harmony.
It's so fun for me to watch you truly enjoy the music I love. Keeps my mind open for music I haven't experienced yet.
Sara Smile is the 💣
Glad I found your channel Scribe. You got the music in you for real.
Think she'll ever forget the name Hall and Oates? "That's music, that's what that is", might be the best compliment I've heard from a reactor in awhile. She might need a cigarette too!
The sound of Philadelphia soul
I said the same thing when I started listening to them. They are Bee Gees good. Bee Gees are incomparable and when you get up there with them then you are icon-good
Well...it seems our collective little girl has discovered her some Blue-Eyed Soul. They're the most successful duo ever, and yes, their music is rooted in Motown and the Philly soul scene. However, Daryl Hall(the blonde guy) has repeatedly said that he hates the term Blue-Eyed Soul. He prefers the term "Rock and Soul." It doesn't matter what you call it, it's great music and we can all get up and groove to it. Lots of young folks wonder why people who grew up in my time period all got along, in spite of the difference in race. Here's the answer, kids: Music. Just listen to the music and groove. My next mission: World Peace.
Great reaction!
One on One...smooth as silk.
you will succeed in whatever you choose to do because you are FEARLESS -the Coast Guard did well signing you up-great tune
Love her, great song and reactions 😀🙌🏽
Sarah smile must hear ✌️🧡
