This version is a bit weak, no question. There are other live versions that are much better. And taking nothing from the studio version because it was hot. Darryl’s voice has gotten much better as he has grown older too. Still, great blue eyed soul.
@@bigk4755 This versions is a bit weak, what are you talking about, the parts of John singing make this video stand out. Studio versions and live versions can not be compared.
@@bullzeye40 actually, because studio and live versions are of the same song they can very well be compared. Only in comparison can you contrast the differences and be able to be truthful about how or why either version is the better example of that same song. I happen to think that at times Darryl’s voice was struggling a little. I suspect that his vocal chords may have been a little tired from overuse; that was what I heard. He is human, and so not every performance on every night is going to be perfect. Whether you agree or not is up to you, and that is okay either way. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And for the record, I am a huge fan both Darryl and John, both together and separately.
You nailed it. It's why I enjoy Angela so much, it's like when you play your favorite music for your kids (if they are into listening). It gives a music lover a chance to re-live that excitement of sharing a passion for the music.
Dang i can remember my dad would cringe everytime he was home and my mom would hear that very song and crank it way up lololol thanks for the memories darlin 👍 lol
It depends on the day whether I prefer "She's Gone" or "Sara Smile". "One On One', "I Can't Go For That" and "Rich Girl" are great as well. From now one please do their studio versions.
I love Hall and Oates. Darryl Hall's voice starts it out so smooth and then John Oates comes in strong. This is one of my favorite songs by Hall and Oates. John didn't lead many of the more popular hits but he does have a great voice and they are both so soulful. Check out their hit song and video, Possession Obsession, John does lead on that one.💖💖
If someone's good enough to get on The Old Grey Whistle Test, you KNOW it's gonna be good!! That was THE premier music show on TV, anywhere!! My recommendation is from the second-ever show in the series, & the band was called Heads Hands and Feet, singing 'Warming up the band'! Amazing country-rock, from some Brits!! 😲
It's so rare to get a live performance video where they're not just lip-syncing to the studio recording! It's not so perfect as the original, but they had the chops, and the confidence, to more than pull it off, live. It's just the keys (strings & pads) and the guitar sounds that aren't as smooth and full as the recording.
"I'd pay the Devil to replace her".....out of the 20 Reactors I watched of this song YOU were the only one to catch that, comment on it, and get it! Love your insights!
My other fav Hall and Oats tune. Thanks for sharing! Id like to see your reaction to Ann and Nancy Wilson -Heart, Steve Nicks and Tom Petty -Stop Draggin My heart, any Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham -Fleetwood Mac tune
Once again, I had to peek in. Listened to this song for the gazillionth time! True. Love it - love your wonderful reaction to it, also. Your reaction is right on target.
This past year has been extremely painful for a lot of us. From losing those we love, losing faith, f.. k it, losing our damn minds at times. Sometimes we all just want to get lost in one's smile. Little lady I for one thank you for letting us get lost in yours ❤️ ☮️🌎☮️
I would love to see you react to Sara Smile. Absolutely beautiful song, will choke you up. Daryl Hall wrote it about his girlfriend so it's a true story.
So glad you liked it! Thank you! John Oates also sang on the 1986 Parachute Club hit Love Is Fire. Whether or nor you do a reaction to it please check it out. I'm pretty sure you'll love it!
They do a song called wait for me. And there's a version where Daryl does it solo just him and a piano. You should check it out it's awesome. There's also alot of videos called live at Daryls house. And it's Daryl playing and singing with alot of guest artists. There's alot of good videos to choose from there.
Love your reactions. I was just scrolling down I came across you reacting to The Carpenters. I'm now a subscriber and also a HUGE Hall & Oates fan. They were one of my High school crushes along with Billy Joel and George Benson. Another song that features John Oates vocals tremendously is You've Lost That Lovin Feeling. Please make that your next Hall & Oates reaction.
First time cuz, she’s gone. Loved the evolution of yer reaction. The way you grooved and smiled by the end. Ummm. Yup. Yeah. Me too. Heard every song on every album, and this one still gets me every time as if it was brand new. Some kinda witchy mojo. I guess.
I don’t know how you never heard it before, they play Hall and Oates in every grocery store, every clothing store, and gas station in America. Check out Daryl Hall singing I Miss You.
Greatest duo Everrrrrrrrrrr. Nice reaction. You should do more of their songs, it'll be totally worth it. Then check out "Live From Daryl's House". Hall plays some great songs from them on the show and lots of guest artist. He plays their songs too. Fun behind the scenes kinda thing.
Not sure if anyone caught it, but I did right away (and laughed out loud). The name you flashed up on the screen (of who requested it) was a jokester. "Vince Klortho" was one of the names of the "dog demons" on Ghostbusters. BTW - I love your channel and your reactions -- you're a true romantic at heart and I don't think you know it. Keep 'em coming...hooked.
Their studio harmonies are so good that people thought it was just Darryl Hall singing lol. It's similar to Elton John...the band sang the backing vocals, but were so good people thought Elton sang his own backing vocals.
Excellent reaction love your enthusiasm in all your reactions I’ve seen. Another group you should react to is Journey with Steve Perry most notable the live concert in Houston in 1981.
great song ,great reaction, look into the old grey whistle test for some of the best live performances, fantasic BBC music programme from the 70's & 80's hosted by ' whispering Bob Harris'
Wow, Daryl and John were very young in this video. Most of the time Daryl was the "lead" singer" but John took over more than I have seen him in other videos. This version is much different than the studio version. It seems a tad faster and the organ played a dominant role as well. I like this version better than the studio one.
Shes Gone was RELEASED IN 1973 , To me there songs were the best in the 70s, Shes gone, Sara smile and Rich Girl ,, Most of the comments and liked songs all there songs , Are these 3 songs , The 70s were very special ,
John Oates once talked about this story that occurred in early 70s. He met a very attractive lady in a fancy hotel, but on the second date the lady did not show up. After that he wrote this song and Daryl added the harmony.
Hall & oates sara smile best song by them
I LOVE that song! My mom use to play it all the time.
I married the girl I bought the 45 for.
@@bakercarl8518 45?...Yeah I know what it is. You're showing your age..:)
And I think the opposite!! I think that's the most overplayed and unentertaining song by them.
If I didn't know that you already know it I would have suggested it too.😉
It’s been driving me crazy who u look like and then it hit me… you are a cross between Donna Summer and Angela Bassett. Beautiful!!! 😊😊
Lol! You nailed it! Beautiful!!
Muscular Angela? Man, she looked extra hot when she got into shape to play Tina Turner. Yeah. Oh sorry, I got a little side tracked. But you're right
@@notgivennotgiven7776 haha!!! Angela is smart and hot!!
@@Ray1969. oh yeah, that's what I meant, with those shoulders, arms, and legs.
Yep, I said it too. A pretty strong resemblance indeed.
This reminds me of the group "Player" song "Baby Come Back". There is a video of them performing that live. A hit song in it's day.
This live version is okay, but you should definitely give the studio version a listen...
You are so right on this one ....
Yeah the studio version kicks butt.

This song has one of my favorite lyrics: " Think I'll spend eternity in the city. Let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away"
The best selling duo in music history.
Probably The only song to mention Carbon Monoxide
These guys. They ruled the radio in my early teens. Epic band.
She reminds me of downtown Julie Brown from MTV eighties time. Beautiful girl for sure.
1 of the greatest albums of the early 80's
More importantly… very insightful, smart

nice recovery ;)

Amazing country-rock, from some Brits!! 😲
The album version shows off John's vocals a lot better. He's very very bluesy. I adore his voice and wish it was featured a lot more.
Definitely studio version.

On AXS TV, Darryl has show called "Darrell's House, where he invites Smokey Robinson and others to sing each other's songs. Excellent.

The studio version is the standard for this song. Oh yeah, John can sing. Both grew up in Philadelphia influenced by Philly Soul.

It IS a beautiful song. You would enjoy the studio version, which has gorgeous sax and guitar solos, too.
I would love to see you react to Sara Smile. Absolutely beautiful song, will choke you up. Daryl Hall wrote it about his girlfriend so it's a true story.
The best duet EVER!!!
About 3 years ago I got to see Hall and Oats live at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a really magical night.
The Old Grey Whistle Test was a British television music show.
Germany had their version: Musikladen (German: The Music Shop).

You remind me of MTV Downtown Julie Brown VJ. Hall and Oates have so many great songs from 70's until now.
I was quite surprised that John Oates sounded so good.
This is good...but the studio version is a masterpiece and it is EPIC! Same applies to their song "Sarah Smile".
Great song !! but Sad, sad... Love your reaction.
You have got to check out “Daryl’s House”. If you do,at some point please watch the show with Cee Lo Greene.
Hall and Oats ruled the 80's (in part due to MTV). I have yet to hear a bad song from Hall and Oates!

I always liked this song but the first time I heard it after my daughter passed away it was like hearing it for the first time
Hall and Oates are legends. They are the Michael J Fox of music. Everybody loves thema.
The sound used to be called "Blue Eyed Soul" back in the 1970s when this came out.

They grew up on Motown and Memphis and carried the torch on.
Hall & Oats have sold more records then any duo. Some many hits.

It seems familiar, because the 1970s Hall & Oats is heavily inspired by Motown, which is full of Soul, and R&B sounds.
Going to recommend Remy Shand,... The songs; Rock Steady and or Take A Message.
The treat here, it's all him, EVERYTHING
Sara smile - Hall & Oates, One On One and Say it isn't so.

John Oates lead sings on Hall & Oates Possession Obsession.

This music good for the soul
Also try Sarah Smile by Darryl Hall and John Oates
This song is 42 years old now. It's been used commercially for years
Their song, "Sarah Smile" from that era is just as good.
They have a ton of hits.
Excellent choice.
