Igino Giovanni Brunori and Virginia Nicoli of Samvad are an innovative musical duo crafting new sounds from ancient materials. Their performances are meditative journeys through a rich landscape of melody and rhythm, using bansuri (Indian bamboo flute), silver flute and saxophone and voice. They play with tabla or pakhawaj (drums) and love to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.
In whatever arrangement, Samvad’s original compositions and improvisations are founded on the most rigorous traditions of Indian Classical music, Dhrupad. Together with their teachers, the Gundecha Brothers (Dhrupad singers) they have forged their own musical language in which Raga (melodic frames of indian classical music) and tala (rhythm cycles) remain the core features. In this sense, their music is less of a fusion and more of a dynamic expression of these traditional principles.
Samvad means to ‘speak together’ or ‘accord’ in Sanskrit. There is much accord between the art and life of Igino and Virginia. Music brought them together and continues to be the driving force in their lives. Music is their life and life is their music. Their shared passions give a special tone to their sonic creations, at once deeply connected to ancient traditions and still pulsing with the present.
The exceptional quality of Samvad’s music derives from their attention to sound quality, to micro-tonal detail and to the mysterious dialog between the two. East and West, ancient music and contemporary sounds meet in a new interpretation of tradition and modernity.

When the Madhya Saptak SA and Taar Saptak SA met, I wished if I could Freeze the time at that moment, all the veins of my body got excited.. How beautiful feeling that was, I can not explain. Too bad you sustained on that resonant tune only for 8 seconds.. I wish ed if it could be continued eternally..
I like The Indian colours..melody..nature..music
Why can't we take our music such seriously as these two beautiful talented people are doing?
This is an inexpressible relief watching and hearing them . Thanks for a marvelous and holly video.
No pride in where one comes from is the short answer! Colonial hangover is a more complex issue. Lack of 1 India/ 1 nation state is the bigger factor.
@@nilalondon It can never be one nation , it never was. It all a false amalgamation.
@@mokujin29 pls read the seminal book Breaking India. There is an underlying sanskriti that underlies the subcontinent even though one may be practising diverse religions and/or from diverse parts of this geographical region.
@@nilalondon Cool , I shall look into the book.
However history tells us that people of the subcontinent have always been fighting amongst themselves ( since the time of maha-janpads)
Infact the Mughals and the British should be given some credit to unite the peoples.
All the states are eligible for being a different country it themselves if you ask me.
@@mokujin29 pls read this book. You can then judge in a more informed manner how history is formulated and reformulated as per a given person/organisation's interest at any given point in time. Another good book that will be released this Yr is called the Indian Grand Narrative. All such arguments are tackled there.

Ohh my god. Pure Bliss!
This requires years of practice to master many dimensions which collectively comes out as this.
Control over breath, understanding of Raag, years of dedicated practice, feel of the moment and almighty's blessings.
You can't afford to miss any.
*Steeped enough in Indian sensibility for me. Well done. And thank you.*
Heavenly tune. I have no words to appreciate them. May God bless them. I do not know how I can honor you. I only know that I should honor you.
My mom didn't like me. I think I'm a piece of shit alcoholic. Now I listen to this and it gives peace to my heart. Thank you. All makes sense. Everything is ok.
Take care! Keep listening to things that "soften" your heart and soul.
दिव्य संगीत, लाजवाब जुगलबंदी.

Tears in eyes. Such a compassionate music
Your playing is divine. I especially noticed how you created a small bed of grass to place the spare bansuri.
This shows that you have embodied the Indian tradition of respecting their instruments like offerings to God.
You played beautifully...the world needs your music...
Sublime music.Gratifying to note from comments that Dhrupad is now appreciated worldwide
thank you all for your blessing and appreciation!

Yogi e Virginia che bello sentirvi e vedervi a distanza di anni!!! un abbraccio
wow. just wow...no words...
This will be a long time favorite for years to come. I love winding down with it.
Helped me cope w/ cancer in the family, that to our deep sorrow, my beloved niece didn't survive.
Now it's helping me grieve and accept her death and that we are all part of eternity, earth and the universe.
Drupal takes into the micro physics of music itself and liberates ...unspeakably endearing....
Out standing performance, heart touching music.
So beautifully rendered inside the mood of Yaman.....
Appart from being phenomenal in music... the setting is also impressive... wish I was there
Each spring, I come back to this music. Thank you very much.
I'm still here, and every time I come back here I realize that this diamond has so many facets. God bless you.

Good, thank you for playing for all.
+PeterDad60 I too play bamboo flute. It was a gift to me back in college a long time ago in 1970. It had a few cracks so I used wax and thread string to stop the air leaks and to bind the bottom end to prevent more damage. The kids in school all thought it was a hashish pipe and that's how they used it. I took one good look at the opening where they had aluminum foil and hashish and said this is a flute. The opening was a hole formed into a mouth-piece. It also had six additional holes placed at fixed distances that indicated to me that they were holes to make pitch changes. The owner said go ahead and play it. Well it took over an half hour for me to get my embouchure correct and the right amount of air and also the correct angle. I was turning blue for a while! Eventually the flute came to life and there was music floating in the air. She was so happy that she gave the instrument to me. I have it now 46 years later and it still plays well.
I also play other Indian instruments such as sitar, veena, sarod and sarangi. I played my sarod today. Right now I am playing along in the sitar playing style of using only two fingers, one for going up the neck and the other finger when coming down the neck upon my hollowbody electric guitar think Gibson ES-335 style.
My father gave me my sitar and tampura and tablas around the same time as i was gifted my bamboo flute back in the 1970's. Since that time I have purchased many world instruments. I like playing upon them and they help me to understand different peoples music and culture.
