Igino Giovanni Brunori and Virginia Nicoli of Samvad are an innovative musical duo crafting new sounds from ancient materials. Their performances are meditative journeys through a rich landscape of melody and rhythm, using bansuri (Indian bamboo flute), silver flute and saxophone and voice. They play with tabla or pakhawaj (drums) and love to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.
In whatever arrangement, Samvad’s original compositions and improvisations are founded on the most rigorous traditions of Indian Classical music, Dhrupad. Together with their teachers, the Gundecha Brothers (Dhrupad singers) they have forged their own musical language in which Raga (melodic frames of indian classical music) and tala (rhythm cycles) remain the core features. In this sense, their music is less of a fusion and more of a dynamic expression of these traditional principles.
Samvad means to ‘speak together’ or ‘accord’ in Sanskrit. There is much accord between the art and life of Igino and Virginia. Music brought them together and continues to be the driving force in their lives. Music is their life and life is their music. Their shared passions give a special tone to their sonic creations, at once deeply connected to ancient traditions and still pulsing with the present.
The exceptional quality of Samvad’s music derives from their attention to sound quality, to micro-tonal detail and to the mysterious dialog between the two. East and West, ancient music and contemporary sounds meet in a new interpretation of tradition and modernity.
    Branan Dubh

When the Madhya Saptak SA and Taar Saptak SA met, I wished if I could Freeze the time at that moment, all the veins of my body got excited.. How beautiful feeling that was, I can not explain. Too bad you sustained on that resonant tune only for 8 seconds.. I wish ed if it could be continued eternally..

However history tells us that people of the subcontinent have always been fighting amongst themselves ( since the time of maha-janpads)

+PeterDad60 I too play bamboo flute. It was a gift to me back in college a long time ago in 1970. It had a few cracks so I used wax and thread string to stop the air leaks and to bind the bottom end to prevent more damage. The kids in school all thought it was a hashish pipe and that's how they used it. I took one good look at the opening where they had aluminum foil and hashish and said this is a flute. The opening was a hole formed into a mouth-piece. It also had six additional holes placed at fixed distances that indicated to me that they were holes to make pitch changes. The owner said go ahead and play it. Well it took over an half hour for me to get my embouchure correct and the right amount of air and also the correct angle. I was turning blue for a while! Eventually the flute came to life and there was music floating in the air. She was so happy that she gave the instrument to me. I have it now 46 years later and it still plays well.
I also play other Indian instruments such as sitar, veena, sarod and sarangi. I played my sarod today. Right now I am playing along in the sitar playing style of using only two fingers, one for going up the neck and the other finger when coming down the neck upon my hollowbody electric guitar think Gibson ES-335 style.
My father gave me my sitar and tampura and tablas around the same time as i was gifted my bamboo flute back in the 1970's. Since that time I have purchased many world instruments. I like playing upon them and they help me to understand different peoples music and culture.
