at 9:28, the sound from the following clip started while the video still showed your hand on the wood and it made me jump for a second... That kind of thump thump sound is a jump-scare for any wood worker with their hand still on the part ;)
Morgan, you never cease to amaze me. Like it was mentioned before you do think outside the box and I’m still not over the vase in the cube ! A tru artist in many levels! Bravo 👏. An inspiration to us all.
By far one of the most unique pieces I have watched be made. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time just waiting to see how it would stand up to the turning Amazing work
Fascinating alternative method to achieving an open segment bowl. I tried something similar with jigsaw puzzle pieces and viewers did not like it! But the hazelwood in this looks like a great choice. All the best. Ray
I am always amazed that glue can be strong enough to hold a piece like this together when faced the forces exerted on it by the turning process. Every time I see this done, I expect the entire piece to explode as soon as you apply the chisel (if that's the right word for the tools you use). I guess, like a good weld makes makes multiple piece of metal the same a a single piece; a good glue job makes multiple pieces of wood like a single piece.
snevel Thank you for your comment 👍 Wood glue is very resistant if you follow a few guidelines, you have to put the parts under pressure for a certain time and you also have to put the right amount ... 🤔 of course you have to be careful when digging with the gouges and not apply too much force ... otherwise ... 😬
Watched your knuckle get bloodier the farther into the video and all I could think is... one or two of those bowls exploded already yikes!! LOL I do have an honest question though... did it end up cracking? I know if you microwave it it would deactivate the glue wouldn't it? How long did the gluing process end up taking you? Awesome project!
Phew my joint is fine 😉 For the gluing I used relatively dry wood so I had no problems afterwards and no need for a microwave either. Otherwise for the gluing process it took about 3 days to get dry. I will do the experiment again with another glue to see if there are any differences. Today the bowl has not moved at all and it is even very solid. 😉
The pieces of wood reminded me of sliced potatoes… Would you please consider showing us the finished piece? Stained, waxed, whatever magic you artisans use?👍🏻👍🏻❤️
We had thought of making a bowl like this, have since decided against it, lol ..... While I love the final look, the turning process looks like a nightmare. Props to you for sticking it out and finishing it.

Hello Tony Cahyono Thank you very much for your comment😉👍 I am very happy that you enjoy my work 🙏💕 We here in France love Indonesia very much❤️ Take care
While it looks very cool, it seems to me it would be more functional as a bowl to cast it in epoxy before turning it. A colored epoxy would give it some beautiful coloring.

That project has to be hard on the hands and wrists. You come up with the most unique turnings. If I only had half the vision and imagination that you do.......
Very interesting Morgan! saw in another comment you wanted to keep the color white. Try Minwax Polycrylic. It will not add a tint to your wood. Plus easy to use and will make a great finish. Gary

You are amazing! Your talent is incredible! Great bowl, lots of work and live went into this beautiful masterpiece! Bravo!!
Thank you so much Mary💕😊🌸
I see a lampshade. Either hanging from the ceiling, or a bowl full of fairy lights. Would create some beautiful random light and shadow pattern.
yes very good idea😉👍
Maybe you need a press and turn the RPM up. Nice ideas. Best regards.
Yes with a good press it would have been more solid...🤔
Wow! I look at all those pieces 😮. You have the patience of a Saint!!

look at those hands a wounds of hard work❤❤

You have to be very careful with this activity🤪
Would have looked cooler if u had filled it up with resin before turning so that all holes would have vanished and bowl would be more functional

Yes I will try with resin next time;)
Good idea no wastage of material, but only thing little laborious job , should do patiently.
Only waste is the saw kerfs, the removed wood from turning, the cookies not used, and the original bottom not used after the break-up, I suppose.

I really like your idea. In the future, turn a little faster, making light cuts. Your peice will be a more uniform shape, and your tool won't get pushed around as much. Also, when hollowing, use your tool on the side going downward with the tools you are using. Although I haven't used one, I think you only use a hook on the upward turning side.
