Woodturning : A Gift from Nature😳

- Sometimes we are lucky enough to be able to work with extraordinary pieces of wood.
The burl are difficult to work on the wood lathe because their density is irregular and create a strong imbalance. After several hours of work and a Danish oil finish, the result is magnificent.
Good viewing!!

Bon visionnage!!

Wow! Definitely a gift from nature. I could look at it all day. But your arms must have been worn out by the time you were done! 😊
yes indeed my arms are still shaking so much this piece of wood was hard 🥵
That was quite a brutal start to the turning ... I've only turned a small number of pieces and had to deal with an unbalanced piece a few times, nerve racking!!
I was happy to see you didn't feel the need to add another piece of wood as a base, it was already perfect the way it was ... absolutely stunning piece of wood ... mother nature can indeed show us how it's done 👍
Barry
Yes this kind of piece requires a lot of work which can sometimes fail but with method and patience we can succeed in obtaining nice results.
Interesting piece of work.
Thank you so much Judith💕

Stunning work! And a beautiful finish.
Thanks Bruce😉
Encore une fois, c est magnifique. Le travail et le résultat !
Merci Carole❤️
Wow … just wow! Your hands sure got a workout on this project. The burl was pretty on its own but in your hands it became magnificent. Thank you for sharing your passion for those of us who wait patiently until the next Friday.
Thank you very much Enaid, it makes me happy to share with you 😉
Very Beautiful piece of art.

Breathtaking!!!
Thanks Virginia💖💖💖
Very, very nice Harry!
FABULOUS results for a marvelous piece of wood.
Thank you 😉 I'm Morgan.. but it's the same we're both wood turners
This certainty looked like a challenging piece! Glad you turned slowly at first. Looked rough on the hands 😮
Terri
yes this kind of woodturning is tiring but it's worth it 😉👍
Absolutely gorgeous
Thank you Angela💖
so beautiful!
Thank Lisa ❤️
Nice name...last name.😁
@@philmickey7247 maybe you are my husbands cousin?
@@LisaMickey Goggle search would possibly explain the 'family tree' as it branched out.
Small world sometimes.😁
You had to bring out the big tools for this one! That was a big chunk of wood!
I like how you go with the flow and let the wood "speak" to you.
The bowl turned out beautifully and I love the grain of the wood you used!
Thank you for your comment😊
indeed it is the wood that decides the shape of the piece and you have to know how to let yourself be guided by the grain
Turning burls looks so dangerous at the start. I'd love to try turning, but I'm 70yo disabled woman with no resources for a workshop. I content myself converting fallen branches into smooth, creamy pseudo-driftwood for macrame hanging projects.
Helen
Yes it is very difficult to turn magnifying glasses so hard.. and I also like pseudo driftwood 😉💕
That is absolutely fantastic! I love the way the wood grain marbles, if that’s what you call it…. Is so unique, and I love the shape! Take care!
Racheal
I'm glad you like it 🙏💖💖
A mais bonita de todas
Muito obrigado 😉🌸
very pretty it looks like something a archeologist would find.
Thanks candace 😉
Stunning, a very elegant work, I’d buy it ….if only I could……actually, I’ve bought all your works….I’ll pick them up later if that’s ok?

Gorgeous 😍
Thanks Lori💖
So beautiful!! Think this would be a great lamp shade for a floor lamp!
Thanks Rustysmommy
Yes indeed it will be a very good lampshade 😉💖
Absolutely gorgeous bowl Morgan.
Thank you Jack😉👍
Merci Lily ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful work! I've got a big oak burl I need to tackle some day. Can't beat the figure. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Stephen
An oak magnifying glass😳 it will be tiring to turn it ,but the result will be great👍👍
Take care🙏💖
👍👍👍!!!
😉
Everything you do is gorgeous This took my breath away ♥️
Thank you so much Megan❤️❤️❤️
You pick a piece of wood and you release what you see in it.
Heru
Yes it is a bit like that😊😉
NICE
Thank you so much Tim😊
I thought you were going to make a bell at first. Have you ever tried that with a burl? Not one that would swing back and forth, but just representative of a bell.
Heather
Yes I have already made bells and the shape is interesting to work on😉
Hi Morgan what a marvellous piece of wood it is full of character it's a shame you had to take the bark of. The grain is lovely and the markings and colour and nooks and crannies are amazing, the pot is magnificent and unique. You really put alot of hard work into turning this. Thanks for a fantastic video can't wait for your next video. Amanda xx
Thank you so much Amanda🌼💖💖
Yes this piece took a lot of effort from me as it was very difficult to work with its intertwined grain and varying densities.. I'm very glad you like it😊
Wonderful job as always best on the net!
Thank you so much Ray 😉👍
I have a very similar piece of burl from a fallen tree I've been scared to turn due to its size and irregular shape. The first 3.5 minutes of this vid made me extremely nervous. Great job, absolutely stunning grain and flawless execution as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Me too 😮
Hi Terri
Are your burls dry?
Thank you 😊
indeed the magnifying glass can be complicated to turn because their grain is often very dense and irregular... beware of the imbalance 😉
Yeah! You started with an amazing piece of wood, and it came out beautiful! But what a pounding you endured at first! And the shaking lathe. Morgan, are you saving up for a bigger lathe? I've done the same with my little lathe - maxing it out! I'm hoping to move up this year.
Dave
Yes it is not easy to turn this kind of piece on a small wood lathe
Ok!
😉
The end result is very pretty, you did that burl justice.👍👍❤️ I also noticed that you were using your old lathe. I guessed that it was probably better to do that than take the chance with this large, awkward shaped, dense wood burl just in case your lathe didn't like it.
Thank you so much Lynn I’m very happy that you appreciate my work ❤️❤️❤️
Gee, I'm slow. 🙄 I just realized that this may have been one of your older videos that wasn't released until now. Hint... older lathe and no music at the end. 🎵
🇻🇳 hello
That turned out gorgeous! Do you have any aches and pains after a battle like that? That outside was brutal!
Karen
Yes it could give you aches and pains😊
What a beautiful burl! Your designs are lovely but it's also nice to see you turn a natural piece. Also...how do you keep your shop so clean?!?
Thank you very much😉
to have a clear mind I have to tidy up and clean my workshop so that every morning I find inspiration
Beautiful piece of wood. Not a fan of the unfinished rim (naturale?) Personal preference here but I think it takes away from the piece.
Thank you so much for your comment John 😉
I have several burls… cherry, walnut, oak and hickory. Some have been kept for 15 years.
I’ve procrastinated turning them because I didn’t want to destroy them. But, watching how you tackled this one has me thinking that I need to just dive in and give them a turn!
Morgan, thanks for the inspiration!
PS: was that a gelled Polyacrolate glue that you used to stabilize the cracks?
Thank you very much for your comment😉👍👍
it's not always easy to turn the burls because they have an irregular density.
For the cracks I use low viscosity cyanoacrylate glue so that it penetrates well into the fibers
@@bawbreizhartwood thanks… I’ve been using the gel on some spindles with larger checks. They are painted and it fills them well.
why you using youre old lathe
I have some videos in stock😉
@@bawbreizhartwood thanks it had me stumped
the lathe is too small for that piece
Luis
sometimes you can do great things with a little wood lathe 😉
