I just did this to my old truck. It worked great. It looks great! Cost about $35 for everything at Lowe’s. Sponges don’t work well as she stated but work well to clean up any runs when you first start. It had about a 10 minute learning curve
Thanks Alex! It's still looking pretty good! The sides and tailgate still have a nice satin shine, but the hood and roof are starting to dull. Nice job on the paint,I'm in the middle of a fake patina on a 85 Squarebody.A light coat of enamel and a green Scotch pad scuffed front to rear direction works pretty well
Awesome! I've thought about adding a little extra patina on my 70 C10, but I've always been scared to start sanding. Are you scuffing it down to bare metal or do you have paint underneath? --Emily
Truck is lookin cool. I havent seen this method before but def makes more sense to me than the oil method. Im used to doin my floor linoleum with floor wax so i already have a supply here. It probably wont last 6 months but should def last a few. Cool to see a female doin her thing too.👍
Thanks. We appreciate you watching. This has been on this truck now for over a year and it is still looking great. Let us know how it turns out if you try it. Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience is the truck kept covered in a garage or carport or parked outside? i just stumbled upon this and want to do my 68 cougar that stays in the garage 90 percent of the time
@@chadhickey9942 Hey Chad! This truck has been outside for a year and a half in the rain, snow, sun, heat, etc. And it still looks great. I like you. I love what you did to your truck. I have an old rusty F-150 that I thought I was going to have to slap a cheap Maaco paint job on. It has lots of surface rust but nothing deep. Your method would be perfect. You sold me! I really like that if I don't like how it turns out, it is easily reversible and I can have it painted. So no down side in trying. Thank you very much.. I just subscribed. Oh .... your old truck deserves to have those rust holes fixed. Don't let it rust into the ground. Just sayin'.
That's awesome! Thanks so much for subscribing! The guy we got this truck from said it belonged to his uncle, and he was pretty sentimental about it... so I feel like it's right to let their story live on. It took 57 years to look like this, and while it might not win any car shows, I love the way it looks. That being said, there's some structural stuff under the cab that needs to be addressed before it can be a real driver. We have a couple other videos on this truck if you want to check them out! Thanks for watching! 😊 ruclips.net/p/PL3Xf8yWArPC5ZV9bIJmZ3tZYm6WEBMAec

My 56 had beautiful faded ocean green paint on it, only rust was over headlights and cab corners, i had it repaired and painted, but it was the 90s, different time, now i still regret it but it still looks good with the new paint.
I wish there was a way to fix the rust and not lose the patina! This truck is going to need some serious repair to make it roadworthy again, and I dread it. We appreciate you tuning in! --Emily
Definitely curious as to how long it lasts . Subscribed to follow. Looks great by the way, I have a 92 dodge beater D150 I may try this on, paint is shot.
Thanks for subscribing! This truck has been outside in the sun, rain, and snow for almost 2 years, and still looks great. The colors are still bright and water still beads up, but it did lose a little shine. I wish I had done a couple more coats, and might try to recoat in the future. Just saw your pic on Instagram. Excellent info glad I caught this answer, I have a vintage horse trailer I want to do this with, I’ve been down the rabbit hole! Just curious if I could hand paint a mural first then apply the Zep? Does the zep prevent the rust from spreading though?
Awesome! I've been really happy with it! It has lost a little shine after being out in the elements for almost 2 years, but it still looks great. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily
I did it this weekend. Looks absolutely amazing. didn't use zep polish but some other high gloss product. degreased and scotch brited everything. put 4 coats on. it looks just like it has a clear coat, couldn't be more impressed. @@UglyTruckExperience
Great job and I think I’ll do this to my 72 C2500! Btw, if you lay on the cab floor and look under the dash, you’ll know the original color of the truck from the firewall :) Cheers
I wire brushed the rust . Wiped it down with acetone , lightly to not rub off the paint . I painted on carroseal . The rust turns black . It looks so cool . Then paint over with fllood . Night and day difference.
That's awesome! I only did a couple of coats, but I wish I had done more. Still looks great after almost 2 years, but it's lost a little shine. Did you do anything special before you recoated it? Thanks for watching! --Emily
I was really surprised at how much brighter the colors were, too. Go find yourself a rust bucket, and let us know how it goes! 😁 Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
A lot of people use that method, but I didn't want a high gloss shine or a greasy finish. I found matte and satin kits for patina, but they were spray on and over $100 on the cheap end. I plan to restore this truck at some point, so for the investment, I'm very happy with the results. 👍
@@UglyTruckExperience Wax isn't necessarily a bad thing. It can be removed if it does become a problem. Leaving them in the damp forest covered in leaves. Or a tarp.Definitely a bad thing.
Awesome! I haven't tried turtle wax on it so I'm not sure how that would work. But Zep makes a whole line of floor cleaning/refinishing products. Mine still looks pretty good after 2+ years, but it did lose a little shine. I'm going to try their floor cleaner and recoat with the same polish and see what happens. Should have a video on that sometime soon! Thanks for tuning in, and let us know how it goes if you try it!
Thanks Jesse! Nope, it's not greasy or tacky at all. It's the same stuff they use on commercial floors, so it's a smooth hard finish. Feels just like the floor of a Walmart! 🤣 Two years of sun and rain later, it still looks good. I do wish I had done a couple extra coats on a couple of the rough spots, and will recoat it someday. It's been outside in the Missouri sun, snow, and rain for almost a year, and still looks exactly the same. No peeling or yellowing, water still beads up. Definitely worth my $25! I hadn't heard of it either, but I found a MotorTrend article and gave it a shot. There's a link in the description if you want to check it out! Thanks for watching!
After all the comments and ugly truck updates I took the leap to do the Zep polish on my 81 Toyota pickup. Unfortunately, the truck is beige (with patina of course) and the zep went on too yellow for my liking so I bought the stripper and removed it all. 1 hour of application (2 coats) took 5 to remove. Now I’m back to considering paying for a spray on application
Hey Sara, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you! That's a bummer! That 80's beige on those pickups is pretty cool. Hope you find something that works for you! --Emily
Thanks Brad! It would definitely brighten up the colors, but you'd be surprised at how much a good scrub would help. Depending on how much paint you have, I'd be careful not to use something too abrasive. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
Wonder how this would work on a late early 90s Chevy truck. They had clear coat issues where it didn't adhere to the paint. Just thought you might be able to use this method on where the clear has went away
I'm not a paint and body expert, but I think when that happens, they usually sand it down and respray the clear coat. I'm not sure if the floor polish trick would be good for that. It has a different texture and shine than a normal clear coat, so I'd be worried about blending it into what you have. Keep us posted, I'd be curious to see what you figure out. Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry

Hey there awesome truck I have a question so the video says it’s about a year old how long did you have your satin shine? And is it undercover does it sit out in the elements I live in Idaho we have hot summers and snowy winters. I’ve tried the Linseed oil trick It doesn’t last very long at all basically a few weeks . I’m thinking about doing this on a 1950 Buick fastback that my grandparents bought new here in town. Thank you, Alan
We're in Missouri, so similar weather to what you have. This truck has been outside for over a year, and it still looks exactly the same. Dries hard with no greasy finish, but water still beads up. That's awesome that you still have that Buick! Be sure to let us know how it goes if you give it a try. Thanks for watching! Emily and Jerry
I thought about that. I went with the high traffic for durability, and I can add more layers to add more shine. But the wet look would be pretty sweet! If you give it a shot, be sure to let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily
I have a 1967 jeep wanting to do this so I watch closely and I saw you apply it and on the hood several times but I actually never saw you wipe it off. Was it not necessary to wipe off to the dry itself?
I didn't wipe any of the product off. I applied several light coats until the shine looked the way I wanted and everything was covered nicely. It dries pretty quickly, so I didn't have to wait long between coats. Let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! Emily
It's been over 2 years outside in the sun, rain, and snow, and it still looks good! Colors are still bright and water still beads up, but it did lose some of its shine. Is this coating removable? I'd like to eventually clear coat/repaint the truck, so if it's semi easily removable this would be the perfect solution for now Thank you! (1974 Dentside F-250)

Thanks for watching! It's only been a few months, but we were just talking about how good the truck still looks!
My brother has a '62 GMC with the original 305 V6. It gets a lot of attention at carshows. Looks like you did a good job on your presentation.
Thanks Slim! We have a 1960 GMC with the 305 and a 4 spd, and it's definitely a head turner! 😆 They're cool old trucks! Here's a link to a video on it if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/Sjlh0TM_qfg/видео.html We appreciate you tuning in! --Emily
Good Job,
Hard Worker!
Olé!🏁🏁🏁
Thanks Josue! We appreciate you watching! 👋
Looks nice enjoyed your video , hi from New Braunfels Tx
Thanks so much! Hello from Missouri! 👋 We appreciate you tuning in!
--Emily
Really Cool I just started this with my 66 Ford F100. I'm painting the wheels and the bumpers but doing this on the body.
That's great, James! We'd love to see how it turns out! We're @uglytruckexperience on Instagram and fb.com/uglytruck.
I am just now noticing a little bit of a haze, but I haven't washed it either. Water still beads up, and colors are bright. I'd say yours would last much longer since it's in the garage. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! --Emily
Wow . Nice looking truck .
Great work and very informative.
I can’t wait to start on my old 74 chevy camper special .
Thanks! I just said yesterday that I'd like to do this to our 74 C20 yesterday! Be sure to let us know how it goes. --Emily and Jerry
Saw the elusive elbow corns being spent on some classic steel. Way to go.
That's corns well spent! 🤣
Olé!
I love it…😃👍🏼🏁
vice grip recomends a 2or 3 to one mix of boiled linseed oil with mineral spirits.
not too greasy, lasts for 3-6 months
I have seen a lot of people use that recipe, but I didn't want it to be greasy and wanted it to last longer. This Zep floor polish has been great! Here's a link to the 2 year update if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/CaAIs2yLxt0/видео.html We appreciate you tuning in! --Emily
Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! We appreciate you watching!
--Emily
Looks really good. Love it.
Thanks Vinny! Just fired it up today and it still looks great!
I loooooove that look
Thanks! I was really happy with how it turned out! We appreciate you watching!
Keep us posted if you give it a shot! --Emily
Excellent info glad I caught this answer, I have a vintage horse trailer I want to do this with, I’ve been down the rabbit hole! Just curious if I could hand paint a mural first then apply the Zep? Does the zep prevent the rust from spreading though?
Great job!
Thanks Berg! We appreciate you tuning in!
hell yea gonna put this on my ol rusty 57 210, was thinking about the linseed but this looks like a better option
Looks good thank you for the information
Thanks David! We appreciate you watching!
God your a machine, you go girl. It looks great.
Thanks Andy! We appreciate your watching!
Very good, i'm from Vitória. ES Brazil. I have a big 73 and i'll do for to have this performance. Good work girl. Ser you next vídeo.
Thanks Marcelo! I have been very happy with it! If you do it on your 73, let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching! --Emily
Great job and I think I’ll do this to my 72 C2500!
Btw, if you lay on the cab floor and look under the dash, you’ll know the original color of the truck from the firewall :)
Cheers
That's a good idea! Thanks Michael! If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! --Emily
I’m guessing body parts replaced from accidents over the years is why there’s so many different colors!
I wire brushed the rust . Wiped it down with acetone , lightly to not rub off the paint . I painted on carroseal . The rust turns black .
It looks so cool . Then paint over with fllood .
Night and day difference.
Very cool! I've seen that look, but never knew how it was done. If you're on Facebook, send us a pic! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
You can buy it a Lowe’s. We used to use it on boats instead of buffing. Worked great lasted all season, took probably 8 costs though
That's awesome! I only did a couple of coats, but I wish I had done more. Still looks great after almost 2 years, but it's lost a little shine. Did you do anything special before you recoated it? Thanks for watching! --Emily
Id didnt really seen much of a difference with the steel wool but that finish makes everything REALLY POP. Now i wish i had a rust bucket of my own 😭
I was really surprised at how much brighter the colors were, too. Go find yourself a rust bucket, and let us know how it goes! 😁 Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
Good job!
Thank you!
Am I the 1000 subscriber? Congratulations!
You are!!! Thank you, thank you!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Now I'm wishing I kept my 85 dodge ram shortbox. It had lots of patina great idea.
It was definitely worth the money! Thanks for watching!
SoS awesome idea. Washing the thing is good. Floor wax not so much. Film will yellow in a few months. Good luck with that.
For $25 it was worth a shot! Time will tell. 😊
Boiled linseed oil and a little mineral spirits. I would say would be better than wax.
Nice I thing I’m going to do my 87 gmc 4x4 square body ❤
Awesome, let us know how it goes! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
I’m trying this on my 1964 Cadillac Hearse!,,.Great job,.and thanX for sharing.X
Very cool! I've been super happy with it. Hope yours turns out great too! Thanks for tuning in!
Great Job…..!
Thanks! We appreciate you watching!
Just got a 77 jeep cj7 and it needs its rust preserved
I saw some of the BLO/mineral spirits videos and I like this better, maybe turtle wax it after a few zep applications?
Superbe !!
Bravo !!❤
Thanks! We appreciate you watching!
Good video.
1) how did it feel when touching it? Was it tacky at all or did it completely dry?
2) 2 years later who is holding up?
Thanks Jesse! Nope, it's not greasy or tacky at all. It's the same stuff they use on commercial floors, so it's a smooth hard finish. Feels just like the floor of a Walmart! 🤣 Two years of sun and rain later, it still looks good. I do wish I had done a couple extra coats on a couple of the rough spots, and will recoat it someday. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry
How is it holding up? I’m trying to decide which route to go on my 50 Ford F5, have never heard of using this.
--Emily
Thinking about doing the patina look on my 51 Merc. By the way Shes cute!
Thanks, Kid! If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! We appreciate you watching! Emily and Jerry
Looks nice! I'm entering my 84 C10 in a car show this weekend. Do you think it would work well with just faded paint?
Looks awesome! I’m planning on doing the same to my 73’ C20. How long did the finish last?
Thanks KP! It's been outside in the sun, snow and rain for almost 2 years, and still looks good! It did lose a little shine, but the colors are still bright and water still beads up. I'll give it another coat and have another video on it someday. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily
Might need to do this with my sons ‘55 2 1/2 ton… I have 15 gallons of commercial wax left over from a job! 🤣
I used less than half of a gallon on the whole truck, so you should have plenty! 😂 I was super happy with the results.
Let us know what 42 coats of that stuff looks like ....🛻
AWSOME JOB
How long did it last? keep it up
Thanks! We're coming up on 10 months sitting in the Missouri sun, snow, and rain, and it still looks the same! No peeling or yellowing, but you can see the rough surface rust in a couple places where I got lazy with my prep work. Still the best $25 I've spent! Thanks for watching!
Hi loved the video I watched it December 22 I was wondering how its holding up
Thanks! This truck has been outside in the Missouri sun, snow, and rain for almost a year, and it still looks exactly the same! There's no sign of peeling or yellowing whatsoever. We'll have another video on this truck soon and I'll be sure to show how it's holding up. Thanks for watching!
I don't know if you had answered in the comments, but how long does it last? I came out pretty cool.
It's been outside for almost 2 years, and it still looks good. No peeling or yellowing, colors are still bright, but it did lose some of it's shine. I wish I had done a couple more coats, but still super happy with it. I'll have an update/recoat video on it someday. Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
now that its been a year, how long did it last? looks great!
Thanks Brian! It's been outside for almost 2 years, and it still looks good. No peeling or yellowing, colors are still bright, but it did lose some of it's shine. I wish I had done a couple more coats, but still super happy with it. I'll have an update/recoat video on it someday. Thanks for tuning in! --Emily

Hey juat wondering how long it ended up lasting. Im definitely considered do this to my car now
Hey Andy! I just posted a 2 year update on it! Here's a link! ruclips.net/video/CaAIs2yLxt0/видео.html
Thank you,
Alan
We're in Missouri, so similar weather to what you have. This truck has been outside for over a year, and it still looks exactly the same. Dries hard with no greasy finish, but water still beads up. That's awesome that you still have that Buick! Be sure to let us know how it goes if you give it a try. Thanks for watching! Emily and Jerry
I wonder what a wet look floor polish would work?
I thought about that. I went with the high traffic for durability, and I can add more layers to add more shine. But the wet look would be pretty sweet! If you give it a shot, be sure to let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily
😂 not housebroken !
🤣😁
I have a 1967 jeep wanting to do this so I watch closely and I saw you apply it and on the hood several times but I actually never saw you wipe it off. Was it not necessary to wipe off to the dry itself?
I didn't wipe any of the product off. I applied several light coats until the shine looked the way I wanted and everything was covered nicely. It dries pretty quickly, so I didn't have to wait long between coats. Let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! Emily
So how long did it last? I've been going at my square body Dodge with the sos pads, this is the next step.
It's been over 2 years outside in the sun, rain, and snow, and it still looks good! Colors are still bright and water still beads up, but it did lose some of its shine. Zep makes a floor cleaner also, so I plan to wash it and recoat one of these days. But still super happy with it for $25! If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! --Emily
Can you provid a 1 year followup? How did the polish hold up to the sun? Did you get chalking after uv rays got to it?
It's been almost 2 years in the sun, rain, and snow, and it's still looking pretty good. No chalking or yellowing, but it did lose some of its shine. Colors are still bright and water beads up, so I'll probably just clean it and throw on a couple more coats. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! Emily and Jerry
@UglyTruckExperience is there a way to remove it if the results are not desirable or it goes wrong?
Nice truck,,, emily,,,,👍 are fender’s getting repaired?? 👋👋
Thanks! Yep, it will get new fenders and floor pans someday.
@@UglyTruckExperience You'll have to find some solid but paint challenged junkyard fenders to fit in.
@@boyracer3477 Yes, that's going to be fun. 😁 Might have to do some faux-patina and blend them in. I'm in the same boat with my 70 C10 mirrors too. One broke, but they're patina'd like truck and a new chrome set would be too shiny. #patinaproblems
Is this coating removable? I'd like to eventually clear coat/repaint the truck, so if it's semi easily removable this would be the perfect solution for now
Thank you!
(1974 Dentside F-250)
I'm not sure, I've never tried to take it off. But it's made for floors, so I'm sure there's a process or product that will remove it. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
Looks great. Is it dry. Or have oily to touch.
Thanks Michael! It's completely dry. It's been over a year now, and still looks the same! Thanks for watching!
Awesome. No problem. Thanks for the video and tips.
Going to be doing my car this weekend
I was thinking again, I wonder if you could apply the wax buy means of a spray bottle and rub with a cloth..God bless yall real good
Definitely! I laid it on pretty heavy on these first couple coats, but a spray bottle would probably work better for lighter touch-up coats. I'm hoping not to have to touch it up too often. 3 months in and still looks like the day I did it! Thanks for watching!
How's it holding up? Have you had any issues with yellowing from UV?
Hi Kaitlyn! Nope, no yellowing or peeling whatsoever. It's been in the sun, rain, and snow for 2 years, and colors are still bright and water still beads up. It did lose a little shine, so I'll recoat it someday. Not bad for $25! Thanks for watching! --Emily
Has it yellowed over time? Also, try Penetrol next time. I hear its very durable and does not yellow.
This truck has sat outside in the Missouri sun, rain, snow and heat, and still looks exactly the same. No yellowing or peeling whatsoever! Thanks for watching!
Looks great…..how long did the zep last ? Did it fade out after a few weeks ?
It's been sitting outside in the sun, snow, and rain for over a year, and it will looks the same! I washed it with soap and water once, but no touch ups. Not greasy, and water still beads up. Thanks for watching, Rick!
