Your techniques are right on but that gooey gel still never wants to break off from finger or tube tip. It's a great challenge. I, too, think the finger method works better since the gel refuses to let go of the tube tip. Either way it's a mess and I've been doing it for 2 years. Bravo to those who've mastered it!

For my stye, my eye doctor said i didn't need to apply the ointment (neomycin, polymyxin B, and Dexamethasone) directly into the eye as you show, but rather apply it across both eyelids, top and bottom. Apply at bedtime, if some gets in the eye, fine, but no need to apply into the pocket. Does this make sense, Dr. EyeGuy?

  • @CescoCDN

I dream of the day the same can be had with viscous eyedrops like CellVisc. I have severe ocular rosacea and have been prescribed erythromycin ointment and MaxiDex steroid ointment. With arthritic fingers it's quite impossible to apply. So...
Got myself sterile long-stem Q-Tips. Apply 1/4 inch strip and "roll" the ointment strip onto the inner eyelid. Tkles a bit of practice but it works.
BTW Doc, before step 1, I'd clean the ointment tube with alcohol . In ur vid, after washing your hands you handle the tube which was handled prior to washing.
    Cheers!

Brilliant! everything you advised I needed to take on board, especially since I put the tip of the applicator all over the inside of my eye failing to release the ointment from it. It was very frustrating! But now I know it's okay to use my finger tip instead of the nozzle tip. And it's also great that I can sanitize the applicator tip just to be double safe. Nobody else seems to be advising that in particular, and I was worried about how to deal with the matter. Thank you very much 🙂

SAME!! I get so freaked out with anything having to do with my eyes and I can’t get my lower lid down that low… there’s just no way 😂 so I’m not sure if I’m using the ointment properly 😢

Its easy getting it in the eye. The problem is KEEPING it in. A minute later all the ointment has fallen out 😭

Some of it come out. But hopefully you can keep a lot of it in the eye so it's still useful.

I don't understand, why they invent such a difficult-to-apply eye ointment. I really had a hard time applying even when using finger. I am phobia to see those in red..
