I automatically press the “ like” button whenever Miss. Lori appears ! And today , what a delicious recipe - thank you Miss. Lori. 💐
Thanks for the reminder!
@@baseballmomof8 What a sweet thing to say …..and I thank you!
Miss Lori. My goodness, I cannot stress enough how important it is in these times to encourage you to continue to be YOU. RUclips has become full of so called “influencers”. Most are not genuine. They are out of touch. YOU my dear, are not. Please stay true to yourself. I KNOW you will. Because you are real and true. Thank you for that. We love you for your true heart.
Excellent point. Yes, Miss Lori and Mr. Brown are genuine. There are a lot of “actors and sales people” on RUclips these days.
Bread makes the sandwich...and if Mom made the sandwich for you, it was even better! Sure miss my momma slapping a fresh ham sandwich with all the trimmings together for me on my surprise visits (so she wouldn't cook for an army!) Ok, memory lane traveled ... on with the bread baking!
Xoxoxo
I’m 😊p😊o😊ppp
Was having a tough day, then I saw this video and a sense of relief enveloped me because I knew you would brighten my day.
Bless your Heart, xoxoxo
I'm weak in body and need to get ready to go by ambulance to Dr pray I get it all done and do well on trip and Dr. 🙏🙏
Praying 🙏🏼 for your needs dear
Bless you Praying for you
Good evening Ms. Lori ! I love your videos, you explain every step and really take pride in your food , Thank You for that ! The bread looked delicious . Blessings to you and Mr.Brown !
Thanks so much
I love you and Mr. Brown Miss Lori. I just recently purchased a grain mill and have been milling my own flour. Thank you for sharing your recipe for sharing this recipe..God bless you both..Sherri-Payette Idaho
Wonderful!
I just bought a KoMo Mio and used it for the first time this week. I live near Caldwell Idaho!
I've had wheat berries in my freezer for about 3 years. I'm glad you assured me they are still good. Thanks , great video.
Mrs. Lori, thank you for the recipe. I made it with hard red wheat today and baked it in the Pullman loaf pan. I had to use quite a bit more flour because it didn’t soak up all the water. Next time I give it more than two hours or even overnight. And like you said, the conditions in our kitchens are different. However, the bread turned out light and fluffy, it has a great flavor and this will be my to go to recipe in the future. Thank you.
WONDERFUL!
That looks amazing. Thanks for sharing
Good video
I absolutely love all your videos and learn so much from you. Did I miss something here but I saw you grind your wheatberries in the Nutrimill Grinder and then I see where you are putting the wheatberry flour back into the Nutrimill with a mixing attachment? Does this Nutrimill Grinder do both grinding and then allow you to mix the dough to make the bread in one machine? Wishing you and Mr. Brown a blessed day! Please disregard my question about the mixer as you answered my question.
2 different machines, grinder, then then the mixer
I have a kitchen aid and found I can get an attachment for berries to flour….. may not be as good but cost effective w the kitchen aid
Yes, the Kitchenaid grinder doesn’t grind the grain as finely.
It also heats the flour up quite a bit. I had a Wondermill my first time out. I ended up gifting it to a friend and getting a Mockmill for the "heat" reason.
Hi Ms. Lori - First - I loved the video but have what might be a silly question that I have wondered about for a long time and hope you have the answer to - is it really a necessity to roll out the dough like you did then fold and roll to form the loaf? Why can one not just take the dough, sort of knead and shape it into a loaf that way?
Yes, absolutely, I love the whole process of bread making, I've always tucked and rolled
Stretching the surface of the dough tightly helps the dough to rise higher.
Is the mill the same equipment that you use for the mixer or did you buy the mixer separate?
Could you please link the sweet dough recipe ? I found it👍
Lori. Is the measurements a cup of berries for a cup of flour or how do you measure
For me, I have found that 1 1/4 cups of berries makes a good full cup if flour
Thank you very much
A lot of the nutrition is damaged within a day or two of milling due to oxidation. It’s best to mill right before baking.
Miss Lori, how long will this bread keep after baking?
not very long because they will eat it up fast, homemade bread has no preservitives, so it will start to mold after about 4 to 5 days, you can put it in the fridge or freezer
I watch our "How I make a Soft Sandwich Bread From Fresh Milled Wheat Berries." When did you add the salt?
Hoss= horse?😊
Hoss
Okay...what is sweet milk?
It’s just regular milk 😊✌️
It's what we call whole milk
Growing my own wheat out here on a Colorado ranch. grinding my own wheat-berries. Making my sandwiches. There’s a sense of self-worth that comes up within a person that comes with bringing food from the soil to the dinner plate. Whether with grains or garden produce, it’s a nice thing to do in life if you’re in the circumstances that allow it. When I look in your eyes as you talk about your life, your garden, your recipes.... I can see the soft contentment that comes with the life you create. I’m so happy for you and Danny... and all those who benefit from your guidance. Which of course, means all of us in your community. Thank you both.
Oh how I wish we had a good place to grow wheat here
@@WhippoorwillHoller. I’ll send you some when we harvest this July. We grow Hard, Red, Winter-Wheat... so more of an all-purpose flour rather than what you have. This makes for more of a dense bread. Also, I have millet growing each year so I mix both millet and wheat flour for my bread. But, to tell you the truth, I’d trade my wheat fields here in Colorado, for the whippoorwills you have there in Arkansas.
I would recommend getting your nutrimill at Pleasant Hill Grains. I have purchased mills and grain from them and they are a fantastic company. They have a great prices, an excellent return policy and are happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have.
I wish I could mill berries but those mills are outrageously priced.. I actually just looked on Amazon and found a great grinder that is electric and only 1200 watts so I can use it on my solar system if grid down, and its only $50.00. It grinds in smaller batches but that is fine with me!😊
Do you have a KitchenAid?
Don’t give up. There’s a wide variety with all different price points!
And you can find them used at cheaper prices as well.
There is nothing better than homemade bread!!! God Bless Us All!!!
Amen.
I loved watching you make this beautiful bread!!! I know it taste delicious!!! Thank you Miss Lori!! Hugs!!
Hello! I started making bread about 1 1/2 years ago. I purchased my wheatberries, Nutrimill grinder and my Bosch blender.
I use one of your recipes once a week and I turn out 2 loaves and one pan of rolls! I have substituted one cup of water with one cup of Sourdough. Along with yeast.
I have been supplementing with grocery store Organic hard white wheat. If I use 100% fresh ground wheat, I don’t get the rise I do as with half and half.
I’m going to try soaking my flour like you did in this video.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for this information.
Must be the weather today I had to add more flour to my bread recipe to usually I don’t have to ❤❤
This was SO interesting! Not to mention thorough! You really are The Little Red Hen of RUclips, Miss Lorie -- you do it ALL! Bread baking is a passion for me, and flour varieties really do make a difference. I would bet you a good portion of the farm that aforementioned difference is even greater when you grind your own wheat. You did an outstanding job with this one and I not only learned a lot, but enjoyed it tremendously. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
I have the Nutrimill Harvest… love it! It’s a stone burr so I can do dent corn as well. They’re out of stock too but should be back in stock in a week or two. 💚
I would love to make bread from milled wheat berries.
Miss Lori, because of health issues I have been told by my doctor to eat as "whole foods / preservative free" as I can so I am going to try this recipe. But I have a question, have you ever frozen this bread? I live alone so two loaves is quite a bit for me.
I'm behind in watching your videos because I was hospitalized for two weeks. I actually died, was on life support! But I'm ALIVE and getting well❣️
When I was extubated my daughter begged me to get well because I'm going to be a GRANDMA ❣️ GOD SAVED ME!
Praise the Lord! And congratulations on becoming a grandma, it’s the best thing ever!
We only have two of us now, I freeze my bread all the time. Bake it, cool it completely, slice it and then put it in a bread bag. I go an extra step and vac seal it (without crushing the loaf) so I don't have to keep track of how long it was in the freezer.
@@MikePenceFly Great idea!
Yes, I do freeze

Ive never allowed my dough to soak for 2 hours. Thats an excellent idea. Im sure gonna try it. Thanks heaps.
Makes for a softer bread
I have been looking into buying an electric and a manuel backup grain mill. Just need to figure out how much I can spend on one, I love home made bread. I eat very little store bought bread,
I PURCHASED A HAND CRANKED MILL FROM LEHMANS, ITS CAST IRON AND WILL NEVER WEAR IT. THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATIVE VIDEOS. LOVE Y'ALL
Thanks for sharing
Love it .. Thank you for your recipe, I have the wheat berries and a grinder, can't wait to try it out and God Bless you and Mr Brown...
Thank you Ms Lori. You are 💯 correct about store bought bread is not good for you, to much junk in it.
As someone just starting out with milling our own wheat, I really appreciate the time you've taken to thoroughly explain it. Thank you.
I’ve looking into getting a grain mill but I’m still confused on which berries to use, when.
Hard white wheat berries is what I use for bread making, or hard red wheat berries, for cookies, cakes, pastries, I use Soft white wheat berries
I’m thinking of buying a grain mill.
I purchased a Wondermill Jr. Deluxe two weeks ago.
It is hand cranked and can be adapted to be powered by a bicycle or motor. It can also do nutbutters and Masa... I gotta say I have made the best tamales I have ever tasted.
Thank you for showing your bread making.. I do LOVE the bread mixer.
Thanks for sharing
Where do you get your wheat berries?? Mom used to make all of our bread and she did grind a lot of her wheat berries. Her bread was the best I've ever eaten.
Mennonite store, you can order online, and Amazon
Love this ! I started milling about seven months ago and we love it and we love the health benefits
Lori, where or how would you suggest I find the best place to get a hand mill & the hard white wheat berries? I've looked it up & there are so many options I'm not sure of the best way to narrow it down. I make all my own bread and would like to try grinding my own flour. I doubt if I would do it for each batch I make (I also struggle with arthritis in my hands and do have to mix it by hand) but know I'd love to learn the most tasty & healthy options! I'm glad you mentioned the way the weather affects bread. That is the first thing I taught my girls with bread. I try not to make it on a humid day if possible because it affects the rise so much. I'm tempted to try your sweet dough but haven't yet. I have always made my cinnamon rolls with my basic bread dough. With all of the goodies I put inside of the rolls everyone I've baked for has always loved the rolls. Isn't it neat the way we all get used to certain ways we have always made something? I've always hand shaped my own loaves too. The only way I roll it out is when I'm making cinnamon or Cinnamon Raisin bread. I started baking bread when I still had to be on a chair & at first with Momma's hands around mine literally guiding them. I have never lost the love for making it.
Look online at Lehmans
Try Pleasant Hill Grain or Azure Standard also.
@@WhippoorwillHoller Thank you!
@@cynthiafisher9907 Thank you for the suggestions!
@@debgalloway1398 You’re welcome!
All you have to do is raise up the top a little and it will slide right in. Don’t have to push it .
Mines so tight
I'm a Ky girl I love to watch you and your husband. Y'all make me smile everyday. Thank you and God Bless you for your recipes and being such good people ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much
Thank you for going through the whole process. Bread is one of my favorite things to make
Pleasant Hill carries the Nutrimill grinders and mixers.
Thank you so much Lori answered all my questions I am determined to make it work. Great video!!
Thank you Ms.Lori for this Amazing video. I use a breadmachine to make my bread how would I soak it for 2 hours in it? I'm going to get us a grain meal(electric) for sure now. I love these videos you make. I truly appreciate it. God Bless you and Mr. Brown ❤❤.
You could mix it in a bowl first and then let it sit for two hours. Then put it in the bread machine with all the other ingredients.
God bless you and Mr. Brown too, Miss Lori.
Silly question I'm sure but what is sweet milk? Heavy cream? I remember my grandmothers and great aunts using the term, but don't remember what it was 🤦 Also, what do you store your wheat berries in? Love the video! Thank you Mrs Lori for all the great info! God bless from Texas ❤🙏🏻
Sweet milk is just regular milk, as opposed to buttermilk, sour milk, or half and half, etc.
@@cathylongstreth5405 thank you!!
Thank you for the video:) You keep history alive. Blessings.
Love this! I am making sourdough bread today. I love how you are back to basics
I'm getting ready to move. I sold my home. Bread is reaching $4+ per loaf. That was my limit. I have my mill, my hard white wheat berries. Just need to get my belongings moved. Thank you for your time.😊
Great company. Everything seems to be made of plastic these days though. It's what we have to work with though.
I’m starting my FMF journey soon. Thank you for your videos!
Miss Lori, I ordered this grain mill so I don't speak from personal experience but I saw another YT person lift up the top part of the machine and the 'drawer' I believe goes in easier then.
Hi Lori, I've been working on playing with my new grain mill. I'm loving setting up a sports on my cupboard. Excited to learn more and more!
Wonderful!
Gotta hand cranker right me.
Put my big 'ol boy on it. 😂
Miss Lori, I can’t thank you enough for showing folks how you measure your flour; scoop the miled flour into the measuring cup, then level it off. I hate seeing people scooping the flour directly into the cup. Amount of flour is completely different. Can’t wait to see how this bread comes out. I am going to start using my hand crank flour mill soon. I completely forgot I had it!!! I’m also going to try baking with Einkorn grains. I bought about 30 lbs. when we moved here, to Mexico City. I’m still having trouble with the 7,300+ feet above sea level cooking. It’s so difficult. One last thought, I learned early in my bread baking adventures that if the loaf is not to your liking in looks, they make pretty darn good croutons, or bread crumbs. Nothing needs to go to waste😉.
Thank you
I use Sue Becker's recipe for the perfect loaf.
1 1/2 cups hot water
1/3 cup oil
1/3 cup honey
2 tsp. salt
1 egg (optional)
2 Tbs. Lecithin
1 tsp. gluten (optional)
4 - 4 1/2 cups freshly milled flour
1/2 cup flax seed, ground in blender (optional)
1 Tbs. Yeast
Combine water, oil, honey, salt, and egg. Add lecithin, gluten, half of flour, and ground flax seed. Mix thoroughly. Add yeast and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 5-6 minutes). Let rise until double. Shape as desired and let rise again until double. For 2 - 1 lb. loaves bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes.
For a double recipe, knead 8 minutes. For a triple or quadruple recipe, knead 12 minutes
I love this view of your kitchen seeing your oven cabinet and cast iron wall...so beautiful. I had no idea wheatberries would last so many years! Now I want a mill. I sure appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with us! God bless you Ms Lori & Mr Brown too ❤
Thank you so much!
This Old Lady has been making lots of homemade hot rolls and banana muffins my son eats and takes them home with him faster than I can make them God Bless you love watching you to
Mrs Lori 🥰 you and Mr Brown are both jewels to me! Being raised up in eastern Kentucky coal field I'm amazed at how similar our raising up was! I've learned so much and revised my canning and cooking skills to your ways which has made it easier for me as I'm not as young as I use to be ❤😂 thank y'all from the bottom of my heart❣️I don't know if you realize what a blessing y'all are🙏💕💕🙏 thank you also for your precious time to teach us very useful info. God bless and keep y'all safe and well 🙏💝💝🙏🥰
Thank you so much
Miss Lori, I am so glad you showed the loaf shaping technique. That is a lost art.
Awesome!
We have an Amish store here . I’m going have to go get me some wheat berry
Thank you, THANK YOU for making this video! I have tried to make bread a few times, without luck, even though I “followed the recipe exactly.” Your video taught me NOT to do that, but to let the dough speak to me. I can’t wait to try it again!
I LOVE your channel!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wonderful!
I have this same mill , have used it for years love it.
I have some freeze dried put back .I'm sure fresh is better. 🙏🙏
Hey 👋 Mrs. Lori and Mr Brown ❤🩹👍🏽 love watchin ya make ya recipes, pray 🙏 y’all are doin good TY have a blessed day 🥰
Miss Lori, thanks! I want to start making bread. This is awesome! I love you so much, Miss Lori! I think I'll give Skittles some bread, too!
Can you make it in the bread maker?
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have invested in some wheat berries and a hand crank grinder because that's all I can afford. This has made me more confident. God bless you. Always look forward to learning from you.
Wonderful!
Tried to order a mixer this week and they are out too. I had to preorder my daughter a nutrimill harvest. Just got an email that they will be back in stock on the 8th. Azure Standard has the best prices and their berries are clean.
Enjoyed the video. I have never rolled out my bread, just formed into loaves and it always worked well. Cut down on time too.
I love the whole process of making bread
I think it’s relaxing!!
Where do I get freash milled wheat? Thanks love your videos!!!
hi mrs lorie i like your t shirt and the bread your making 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much
I've been milling wheat berries for almost 30yrs, the new thing now is to soak the berries/ nuts and some seeds to get whatever is naturally in the husk that causes problems to our system, soak 8 to 12 hrs, then dehydrate at 115 for 12hrs or so
Thank you Miss Lori. You've encouraged me to get to milling. I bought the same NurtiMill as you have back in October when it was on a great sale on Amazon but sadly, it is still in the box, unopened. I have wheat berries so what am I waiting for? I'll be making your recipe on Monday. Love, Suzy.
Have you purchased from Azure Standard?
No, I havent in a while
Sisters in Christ are sisters for life! 💗XO💗

@cynthiafisher9907 Yes!
Looks delicious
So enjoyable and informative. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much. I do a good job making bread with store bought flour and just started milling wheat berries. I think your tips will help my bread to go to the next level of goodness!
I was wondering what size is your marble boars? It looks like 18x24 inches.
Yes
Can you use a Pullman pan on this recipe? Looks absolutely delicious
I just baked it today in the Pullman loaf form. Turned out great!
Yes, absolutely
Ms. Lori, get yourself a rubber mallet to help with shoving that mill drawer in when Mr. Brown isn't around. I find rubber mallets very useful 😊
I have been milling my own wheat berries for about 3 years now. You are right I will not go back. Like you said it takes a little bit to get use to it but once you got it, you got it. So wonderful. I buy my wheat berries in 5 gallon buckets 😊. I’m thinking about what you said about getting a hand/manual mill. Great video!
What about gluten free? Does grinding my own berries prevent a physical reaction?
Thank you for this video. As I am preparing to begin grinding my own flour. I wondered, as you were adding the flour during the second mixing phase, if you should be resting the dough a few minutes to allow the new additions of flour, to absorb some of the moisture before continuing.
Watching you dear lady while the blizzard rages outside. Be shoveling tomorrow… hope we can make it to Church 😊
Oh wow
How does freshly milled flour do in a bread machine? Thanks for Sharing
It does well, it's a little different,
I have recently started grinding my own grains. I have made lots of muffins. Looking forward to baking bread too. I understand that the nutrients start to decrease from the time the grains are ground. I usually just grind with I’m going to use that same day.
Ma. Lori I have been looking for you sour dough English muffins. I lost the book the recipe 's is it.
That bread looks great. I like the flat top bread bcuz with a sandwich the meat is usually square so I don't need that hump of crowned bread with no goodies at the top.
Could you link the sweet bread recipe? Loved todays video!!
