I'm the only one in my family that eats grits. I didn't eat them a lot growing up but Mom fixed them once in awhile so I liked them. We had oatmeal and Cream of Wheat mostly for breakfast before school. I really got the taste for grits when I was in the Army,I trained in Alabama and South Carolina. We had them in mess hall. Love pumpkin in lots of recipes, cakes, pies, breads, any kind of squash, baked, fried, stewed really, I've even added them to soups. This Earthquake cake sounds divine!! I would have smacked my mouth while eating the supper you made!! 😋Not rudely, just a little. I would love going through your recipe books and experimenting with different dishes. My Mom and I used to look through magazines and clip out recipes.I still have a notebook and a folder full along with cookbooks she left me and ones I've collected over the years, including yours. Cooking and baking was a thing we loved to share. Talking about it brings back so many sweet memories. We loved to get in the kitchen warm up the oven in the fall and winter, put on a pot of orange peels and cinnamon sticks, for the aroma. Bake up some muffins,a cake or rolls and a cup of hot tea and talk or read out loud.🙂😔Well,I'll stop before I start bawling. I love this sweet community,Love you both, have a great weekend, and May God bless all. Your friend in Ky.🤗
Considering what is going on in the world right now and supply chain issues, the economy and such, it would be nice if you had any recipes with minimal ingredients. I have always wondered how our ancestors made it through tough times with very little to no money, yet was still able to feed their families. Thank you for sharing your lifestyle with us. Many Blessings.
I'd love to see you reach into your "Recipe Vault", from old-timey cookbooks, and make something you haven't even tried! That sounds fun. Here's to a fabulous Autumn in Arkansas!
Greetings from Louisiana. Thanks for the Pumpkin Earthquake Cake. I'm in the mood for the Fall flavors. May the Good Lord watch over the new baby and your family. ❤ ❤ ❤
Oh that took me back to my youth!! I still eat grits to this day, and I am 79!! I’m going to try your recipe! I’m sure I will go mad and bite myself!! Yum! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
I bought buckwheat grits and rye flour at War Eagle. My family went to the cave by there, but my lungs don't like caves, so I went to the grist mill! Took a tour...it was interesting.
Grew up in N Ohio. But man, I love that southern food. Ate in KY and TN while traveling as a kid. Biscuits, grits w syrup, bacon, eggs, cooked greens, fried okra. I don't eat like that at my age now but I could eat like a man at breakfast!!😂 My family didn't like it like me.
We live about 20 miles west of War Eagle Mills. It is a beautiful place and so much fun to go there. Your grits made me hungry for some. The cake is a great idea. Thanks.
Mom would cook okra like that with diced bacon. After the okra was sizzling she would add a cup or so of sweet corn just cut off the Cobb and sautéed this together a few minutes. Soo delicious! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it! lol!❤ Blessings!❤
My husband and step daughters will not touch pumpkin, sweet potato or squash anything. My children all have moved out of state so I, sadly, I’m on my own. I just buy a pumpkin pie once in a while but they aren’t as good as home made.
Growing up in Maryland, I didn't know what grits were. When I moved down south, I was blessed to try them and I love them. Thank you for sharing. You are such a blessing.
Thank you ,Ms. Lori for your wonderful recipes for today. Have you ever eaten rutabaga? I’m not into the regular turnips, but rutabaga is really good! I would love it if we could go through an old cookbook to do a recipe, Ms. Lori. Growing up in Texas, we never had grits or stewed okra. We had country cooking, but from southern Indiana. We just kept cooking like my Grandmother did. Many blessings to you and Mr. Brown.🦋💖🕊
Miss Lauri I think we all cook from where we grew up and family favourites. I originally from Scotland UK and I tend to cook on what I grew up on as it’s just what we are used to. I do try to cook various things but tend to go back to what I’m used to. Love to watch you and Mr Brown ❤️❤️
My Nana was from Scotland too and used to make what was called “Scotch meat”. I think it was what you refer to mince. Can you tell me anything about that??

Miss Lori, I think its a great idea of making a recipe from a cookbook for videos! My Mom died when I was 10, so I am self taught cook & baker. I found your channel a few years ago and I have learned so much from you. You are a blessing! God Bless!
Yum!!! Reminds me of my granny’s way of cooking grits. She ground the corn from her cornfield to make her grits and made her own butter to go with them. It was one of my favorite dishes at her house. And, I don’t think grits are good without milk to help soften them. You are bringing back so many wonderful memories to me, Mrs. Lori, by your cooking videos and your lifestyle as well. Love everything you do.
My PopPop and Daddy used to go squirrel hunting and bring them home to my Nana. She made squirrel pot pie. Not the crust kind but with homemade dumplings but we always called it pot pie. Well, I'll yell you, no thanks you! Now her chicken pot pie? Oh yes, I was sitting at the table waiting. Yum! God bless you, Mr. Brown and your family. Hope everything is well with your grandson. Prayers and God's blessings to you and yours❤
Miss Lori, that pie pie was gray. Gray gravy, gray meat and lordy even the taters were gray. This ten year old girl couldn't get over all the gray.@WhippoorwillHoller

Grits take me back to my youth, and grandmother. She would fry bacon or ham and eggs with a side dish of grits for breakfast. I still love grits to this day. My first experience with okra...umm its that slime, that gets me. Ugh. Love "spending time" with you and Mr. Brown. Tho I am a fifth generation born northern Californian, I have a lot of Southern roots and "feel at home" with your videos. Thank you both. Stay safe.

Yes, ma'am, I did enjoy the video 😊 It's been a long while since I have made a little pot of grits, but seeing yours made me want some. And that cake is a good recipe for the coming months of Fall. That looked really good. Going through recipe books would be a fun idea. Just whatever you want to share is always a pleasure for me to watch. We love grits, too. Sometimes, I make cajun shrimp for over them. I agree completely about what you said about some of the pumpkin pie spice from the store having too many cloves. I just said that yesterday when I reduced the store bought type for that very reason and told my husband. I can't wait to try yours.
The idea of randomly cooking a recipe from a cookbook you have sounds like a great idea! From Maine, where I was born, you'll always find a recipe for Boston Baked Beans; or from Utah, the favorite (and famous) dish that is always brought to a church dinner, Green Jell-O Salad! 🤣
I love looking at cookbooks and trying a new recipe. I’d love watching you do it, looking at the cookbooks you have and trying a new recipe. Congratulations on the new grandson. We have 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. 4 grandsons are right next door. We love them all.
We ate grits all kinds of ways but my favorite was when we put leftover grits in a loaf pan and chilled it. The next morning we'd slice it and fry it until golden brown and crisp. We put butter and syrup on it and yummo!
I just love you all! ❤And I think it's a FANTASTIC idea to just go through your recipe books and try new things, how fun! I grew up in the Midwest with a lot of Southern cooking. My dad and grandma were EXCELLENT cooks. And I, too, love ALL KINDS of food from all over the country and the world and subscribe to a big variety of cooking and gardening shows, so I hear ya on that. Cajun food is my absolute favorite! 😍The only two foods I don't like are asparagus and, ironically, okra, and it's because of the "slime factor" and taste with both of those. I didn't know that vinegar cut the "slime factor" with okra, so that's great to know, because your stewed okray did look very good and I loved stewed tomatoes. I also, in my mid to late-40s, realized I had to start cutting back on fried Southern food, which was fine (and my colon and stomach thanked me for it)... but that doesn't mean that I don't treat myself with it every now and then. In fact, earlier this week I made fried 'taters, onions, sweet bell peppers and polska kielbasa, and mmmm, mmm it was good. As Andy Griffith would say! 😄Thank you so much for this video. You lifted my spirits. My sister-in-law passed away two days ago from cancer. We've walked our cancer journeys out together the last two years and became so much closer, so I'm sure going to miss her. Please keep my brother and their children in your prayers if you would. And I pray that your all's new grandson and daughter are doing excellent. So happy for you all! God bless!
Yummy! I'm so ready for the pumpkin spice desserts! I think it's a splendid idea to pick a recipe out of your books and try them out! 😁 Continued prayers Beau. Have a blessed weekend. 😊🧡🌻🍂
Your recipe idea sounds great. I’m like you-I read cookbooks like novels. My dad’s family is from Georgia so I learned southern cooking from my grandmother. And my mom’s family is from Lancaster county PA, so I learned Penn Dutch cooking from them. My dad was in the military so we moved a lot, and I learned Asian cooking and Tex Mex from that
I live in south Texas. I LOVE grits! My husband is from Seattle. He won’t eat them. I have tried them sweet and savory. With bacon, or shrimp. He just won’t eat them. lol. Guess it’s a city folk thing. I have been blessed with so many pumpkins out of the garden this year. I will definitely be making this cake. I’ve always loved the chocolate earthquake cake. I vote YES for your cookbook idea.
I think is just delicious! We use to cook on our big stove and fireplaces for fall. Ooking out side was fun.We love barbecuing it's fun to have stuff going on during the Holidays with friends and Family.❤😊
It all looked good and tasty (except stewed okra). I like it fried. My grandparents were asking for stewed okra and no one was paying attention. I believe I was around 19-20, but I wanted to cook. So, I asked my mom how to make them and she told me. The slime almost got to me and I knew why no one else volunteered. Ha! Learned another lesson that day....don't let that slimy goo spill on you, cause it sticks. Anyway, they loved it and that's what mattered. I haven't made okra stewed since, LOL. Thank you for the time you share with all of us. Now I want Grits!
I've been creating recipes. I have a molasses cookie that I add a tablespoons of cocoa to the dough. One would think it would then taste like chocolate. It does not. The strong nutmeg and cloves it does something to. I want to say almost mutes so they become a whole different spice. It's the strangest thing but it works, much like what you are doing with the choc chips. Have a Wonderful weekend. Much love from Nebraska. ❤
Yes. Grew up on grits and eat them to this day. Thank you for the beautiful recipes today, and the outdoor cookstove? Smart thinking. I've always wanted an outdoor kitchen, but I am long past big and heavy dreams.
Love watching your videos. I am learning so much being from NYC and never lived in the country. You talking to us it’s like we are sitting right there with you.🙂 I love okra and just learned a new recipe today. Also I didn’t know that putting vinegar in okra cuts the slime even though I don’t mind the slime. I made an okra soup recently with corn, carrots, garlic, onions and beans I could have put tomatoes in it but I am not a fan of it. It’s too acidic. I admire your pottery, the style is so unique and antiquish. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I am going to the senior center next week and will be making some “Apple Pumpkin Muffins” sprinkled with Cinnamon Crumb Topping. I want to also thank you for the Pumpkin Spice recipe because I have all the ingredients except the clove which I will pick up tomorrow. I saw the McCormick Pumpkin Spice in the grocery store today for $9.00 and I believe the Lord said wait and then I saw your recipe today. I will save my $9.00 and spend it on something else. Blessings to you and Mr. Brown.💕💕
You're making my mouth water! Sausage gravy with grits! My Momma was born and raised in Arkansas. They moved to Memphis when she was in highschool, so all of us kids grew up on grits and eggs with sausage gravy for breakfast.❤❤❤❤

I love Grits! I never had them till I was 18 years old. A friend from Florida introduced me to them, when we were stationed in Germany. I have been eating them with fried eggs and cheese ever since!❤
I bet you could use puréed sweet potatoes in place of the pumpkin purée and it would be delicious. Thanks, Ms. Lori. I love your recipes and spending time with you here on your channel.
Miss Lori, I live in Wales in the UK and I would be delighted as a long- standing fan of your channel if you could make Welsh cakes! We use a bake stone but I’m sure you have flat skillets which would do the job 🏴 I’d be over the moon to see how you like them, they are delicious! 🙌 a long standing, vintage Welsh traditional recipe made for a very long time - and we add either jam (cut them in half) to make “jam-split” Welsh cakes to nowadays more modern takes such as chocolate, lemon - sky is the limit! Recipes are available if you search online, there are so many. I recently was diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer at 36 years old, and am having surgery in 4 weeks. Watching your videos keeps me going and will do when I go into hospital, if I was to see this video I would be so happy to see you & mr brown try these - God bless 🙏🏼 xx
Oh yes lick the beaters and when you have finished have the mixing bowl as a kid my grandmother always gave me the cake mix bowl to scrape out with a tea spoon or my fingers when she was done with it. And i live across the pond and watch this. Am ashamed to say i had no idea what your grits were we don't cook them so watching you learn about all different kinds of food even at my age 63 it is like we do not can things we call it bottling and we used to put up plums apples and other things we had plenty of in the summer to see you through the winter. Watching Miss Lori brings baack many memories of my child hood. 😃
Miss Lori, with your background of working in a school cafeteria, I was wondering if you ever served buttered rice. The rice my mom made at home I didn’t really like … but what the school served was so good! I don’t know how they made it, but it was thick and rich…buttery and sweet. I’ve tried to come up with a recipe even adding a little corn syrup to it, but it’s just not what I remember. Didn’t know if that was just a local thing with our school or a way other schools made it. Probably not everyone thinks rice should be sweet, but this was sooo good.
We don’t care if you lick the beaters. We all do it. Everything looks good.

God bless!
I want to first Pray for your family I'm so sorry
And Thank you for your kind words and sharing

@@WhippoorwillHoller Thank you SO, SO much. God bless you all, too!
I absolutely love hearing your clock chime. Just beautiful!
Thank you!
Yummy! I'm so ready for the pumpkin spice desserts! I think it's a splendid idea to pick a recipe out of your books and try them out! 😁 Continued prayers Beau. Have a blessed weekend. 😊🧡🌻🍂
Thank you!
Your recipe idea sounds great. I’m like you-I read cookbooks like novels. My dad’s family is from Georgia so I learned southern cooking from my grandmother. And my mom’s family is from Lancaster county PA, so I learned Penn Dutch cooking from them. My dad was in the military so we moved a lot, and I learned Asian cooking and Tex Mex from that
Thank you
Yes
You and Mr.Brown are such an inspiration. We are so thankful for ya’ll. Your friends out of Easley,SC, pastor Brian and Nancy Aiken
We Love yall!
Sounds great!
Thank for the wonderful recipes and the visit. Have a blessed weekend.
Thank you! You too!
I think is just delicious! We use to cook on our big stove and fireplaces for fall. Ooking out side was fun.We love barbecuing it's fun to have stuff going on during the Holidays with friends and Family.❤😊
Sounds great!
I love to watch others too. It teaches us new stuff, yes but it also shows us that we are not weird, their are others more like us.
Lol yes!
Thank you for sharing
I've been creating recipes. I have a molasses cookie that I add a tablespoons of cocoa to the dough. One would think it would then taste like chocolate. It does not. The strong nutmeg and cloves it does something to. I want to say almost mutes so they become a whole different spice.
It's the strangest thing but it works, much like what you are doing with the choc chips.
Have a Wonderful weekend.
Much love from Nebraska. ❤
Yes please pull out some cook books sounds so fun
Yes. Grew up on grits and eat them to this day. Thank you for the beautiful recipes today, and the outdoor cookstove? Smart thinking. I've always wanted an outdoor kitchen, but I am long past big and heavy dreams.
Thanks
The cook books ideas are awesome. Maybe your could cook àn antre sides and desert out of each one.
That's a great idea!
Brown.💕💕
Thank you so much
You're making my mouth water! Sausage gravy with grits! My Momma was born and raised in Arkansas. They moved to Memphis when she was in highschool, so all of us kids grew up on grits and eggs with sausage gravy for breakfast.❤❤❤❤
So good
My husband can’t wait for me to make this for him! Thank you sweetheart! Praying Blessings over your whole family and your new little angel!
Love you guys so much

Mr. BROWN IS A VERY WISE MAN..I'm all for an outside kitchen, I hope to see it all finished
Hes working on it!
I love Grits! I never had them till I was 18 years old. A friend from Florida introduced me to them, when we were stationed in Germany. I have been eating them with fried eggs and cheese ever since!❤
So good!
Miss Laurie - This was one of the most comforting lovely chats ever. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Thank you.
You are so welcome
*I love grits, gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, red eye gravy and eggs!*
*Best meal of the day!*
🙂👍♥️
Oh yes!
I bet you could use puréed sweet potatoes in place of the pumpkin purée and it would be delicious. Thanks, Ms. Lori. I love your recipes and spending time with you here on your channel.
Oh yes!
Oh sister our Prayers are with you

I will try this cake. Not to sure about the grits. That gravy looks fabulous. I forgot about the okra and tomatoes.
I Liked when you shared your school lunch recipes. That pizza brought back memories. Thanks for all that you do.❤
Glad you like them!
Great video thanks! I’m going to try the cake this season. Do you have a fall cookie recipe?
Oh yes lick the beaters and when you have finished have the mixing bowl as a kid my grandmother always gave me the cake mix bowl to scrape out with a tea spoon or my fingers when she was done with it. And i live across the pond and watch this. Am ashamed to say i had no idea what your grits were we don't cook them so watching you learn about all different kinds of food even at my age 63 it is like we do not can things we call it bottling and we used to put up plums apples and other things we had plenty of in the summer to see you through the winter. Watching Miss Lori brings baack many memories of my child hood. 😃
Thank you!
Adventures in cooking with Miss Lori! Love the idea of cooking out of your cookbook collection. Blessings on your day!

Yes we made sweet rice
I make it for Danny on a smaller scale
