So I work for advance, our GM is required to for us to say a few things when you come into the store.
1.Welcome to Advance how can we help you ( this is required from all employees in the building, if you see a customer alone... you have to say that greeting .)
2. Since we bought carquest, corporate wants to utilize the collaboration computer software called APEX, which is not user friendly , and easily will tell you something doesn't exist if the programmers haven't input that we have it yet.
3. Upselling specials, we have $19.99 oil specials generally every month , but corporate typically doesn't print what are called pop tags ( sale price flash cards ) or put it in the monthly catalog. We are forced to "push" the oil that has paid Advance the most that month.
Finally , if you're wondering why we drive home the whole Year , Make , and Model . We are required everyday to make a sales goal. Typically $95 to $100 per hour per shift. On top of that , a dollar's per transaction of $35 , and a daily trans action of 20 to 25 people. So by themselves each goal is achievable on it's own on a daily basis. The problem lies on how it works . Let's say someone comes in every hour for a brake job ( this has never happened) , let's say front, rear brakes , brake fluid, and brake cleaner. . About $100 for good stuff. Well that starts you off at a 100 sales per hour (SPH) , 100 dollar per transaction (DPH) , AND Transaction of 1. The next person comes in and buys seafoam. That's $10. So now your SPH is $110 but your DPH is 90. But wait , no sales for an hour ( which is the usual ) . Hour 2 , SPH is 55 and the DPH is 45.
You can be fired if your goals aren't met period after period, which is 30 days.

I work for advance, 4+ years. My job is dying from the top down . Losing products , run by people who are too scared to rock the boat. Buying carquest was the worst decision we as a company has ever made. People came out of the wood work with CQ parts to exchange them , since we bought them we HAD to give it to them. Advance is the worst auto parts store to work for.
