I love making Fury the "reasonable authority figure". He leaves Xavier and Magneto alone...because there's no need to make unessecary enemies, and he might even be somewhat sympathetic to some of their goals.
i also like the idea that Fury might suspect Xavier has some sort of OP psychic ability or device (which he obviously both has) and that's why they've stayed hidden for so long & why he knows not to mess with the bald guy
Id go with fury knows what theyre doing but since xavier is helping mutants with their powers and giving them a safehaven, while magneto secretly frees mutants with no civilian casualties or out right terrorist activity by those he frees fury gives them carte blanche to help mutants until a catalyst event occurs that shifts that paradigm
I think the "Why do mutants matter" question is pretty easily answered. They're naturally occurring. People like Iron Man and Ant-Man just have tech that theoretically anyone could get, Cap and Spider-Man are not easily replicated miracles, Moon Knight and Black Panther are avatars of gods, Thor and the Eternals are aliens, but the mutants are humans. They can spring up anywhere and they are frequently called the next step in evolution. Non-mutant people are now afraid they're going to become extinct or obsolete now that super people become commonplace. I do like your idea though. Obviously the mutants have always been a stand-in for minorities but I think a "we need to protect the children!" angle could be particularly relevant in today's day and age as an LGBT allegory.
I think it's just not super clear (beyond Cap and Iron Man maybe) how much the public knows about where these heroes get their abilities. Like maybe some people in the MCU can have a Peacemaker-type "aquaman bangs fish" conspiracy because they dont know much about the real person. e.g. maybe they think antman is a deformed human-ant hybrid which is why he has the helmet. again it's not very touched on in-universe. so they might not immediately differentiate someone like spider-man with nightcrawler, for example. but i like the concept of them being openly called the next step in evolution. i know in many stories they are, but what if mutants start popping up and the scientific community starts experimenting, with governments covering up their findings. then someone leaks out that many scientists found the mutant gene to be the the future of human evolution. that stirs a deep fear in a lot of people, particularly ones on the conservative side. little news speech here, blog post there, ad a pinch of ben shapiro youtube ranting and voila you got a society that hates mutants because they feel their humanity is threatened.
@@amartyakejora5451 I don't know if my memory serves me well but didn't scientist turn someone into a mutant in one of the original x men movies? I believe it went that way with Angel but I cannot remember for the life of me
I had the idea that "interacting" with an Infinity Stone can activate or strengthen dormant X genes. If you had X genes and got blipped, that's what activated them. This would also retroactively make Scarlet Witch, Quick Silver, and interestingly enough Captain Marvel mutants.
How would you handle older mutants like Magneto, Xavier and Apocalypse? Have them be affected by some Infinity Stone in the past? Maybe Magneto could have been part of a Hydra experiment with the Tesseract. Hmm.
@@brunopereira6789 this is my only problem with most of these theories. If it’s the snap or teimut or another cosmic energy event that activates dormant x - genes, how would you explain characters that are supposed to have been mutants from birth (or teenage years), the only explanation would be that it was something else that triggered their genes in the past as well
@@jordanhedington2421 Well to bank off what Robert said I think the explanation is only certain people had their’s activated due to heavy trauma or being in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time. You can tie Professor X to him loosing his legs to the Shadow Man, Magneto to either the Holocaust or some tragedy that he was forced into, Wolverine and his childhood/the wars he fought, etc. but these are rare occurrences before the snap
@@brunopereira6789 Agreeing with the Charles here i think the idea is not that this would be the only way to trigger the x gene, just that it'd be much more certain than anything that has happened before.
For the Charles thing, I would add that ever since Tony revealed himself to be Iron Man, Charles decided to find and train youngsters to make a team, through the years, as they were growing, they watched the surge of the Avengers, the events of Sokovia and the Civil War, the snap, but now, they're finally ready to go into the world.
I have two theories 1: That the X-Men are hiding in Krakoa and after Secret Wars they will return to form the team 2: That maybe the X-Men don't exist yet and all mutants are discovering themselves and then Professor X will go after them offering their parents to be at Xavier School
I really like your idea of the "think of the children angle" I would do that, but supplement it with the reveal/confirmation that Wanda was indeed a mutant. The whole controversy of what she did in Westview would compound with and help feed the moral panic that "Our children are being indoctrinated by monsters like her!"
I think my interpretation on why mutants could be hated in the mcu is because their powers are natural, it’s in their DNA, they would be the only characters (minus thor) who’s powers are not given to them but already had. So you could very much still have the original message of racism and homophobia in the movies and have it be hypocritical. Have the powers happen when they’re young (much like kids coming out) and their parents either disowning them or accepting it. I think having the idea that the mcu heroes are characters who obtained their powers rather than had it would be interesting
Agree. Also right now there aren't that many superpowered beings in the MCU and the ones that exist all chose the be heroes and protect mankind. The mutants however tried to live a normal life and did nothing. This could also upset a lot of people. For dumb reasons of course, but that's how racism works.
I think the reason why people in Marvel hate mutants but not superheroes is because they’re afraid of their children being superfreaks. It’s cute and cool when Spider-Man does it but when your 14 year old daughter turns into a green Hulk like monster it stops being fun. I think they should make the majority of mutants in the MCU have some physical deformity just to make them even more “scary” to average people.
I like the idea that Nick Fury and Xavier have meetings every month or so to update on mutant affairs. So long as there are no huge threats to humanity or mutantkind, those meetings are then suppressed in Fury's mind by exavier so he only remembers them when he meets with Xavier, or an emergency occurs.
I don't think we can now have the classic X-Men mutants vs humans, as the people of Earth-616 have just embraced the reality of supernatural things existing in their world.
i think bc average humans have been so deeply affected by superhero adjacent beings and events, having these people "hiding among us" is perfectly suitable to the mcu. mutants have always been a vehicle to parody and criticize republican media men, and their rhetoric. i can perfectly see a j jonah jameson character spreading fear about the next thanos in your childrens' classroom
To be fair that’s also true in the comics and that doesn’t stop it there Plus I think you can argue that there’s a difference between accepting technology, magic and the occasional super soldier and accepting the existence of an entirely new race of superhumans that are supposedly destined to replace regular humanity
In the MCU, powers typically come from accidents and experimentation. People suddenly being born naturally with powers could make the non powered jealous and bigoted.
I think Charles should have been suppressing memories for decades to keep the public mutant clashes under wraps. The X-Men's whole mission has been to brush mutant messes under the rug and keep them from drawing negative attention. The X-Men movies should start with Charles dying of old age, which means they can't hide anymore. We've had more than enough Charles in the movies, let Scott actually lead. He can seek out Emma Frost to ask for her help in keeping them secret, and she can be all like "Nah, I'm starting my own school where we aren't afraid to be mutants", and force Scott and the X-Men to "evolve" with the times and "come out of the closet" publicly and put forward a positive face for mutants so that Emma's school and the Brotherhood don't immediately draw hate.
My only issue is where were the x-men during the events of the snap and other world events? Also what missions and other training have they accomplished.
@@Diegoxo9 I think they would probably have disappeared in somewhere around late 90’s or early 2000’s. I believe they had many adventures but decided that there no matter what they do they Mutants are hunted and everything is tragic. Xavier or other character erased worlds memory AND surpressed the gene.
Ok, one thing I will say: I really don't want an event to "make" people into mutants, in the sense that just happens to random people. But I would be ok if some event "woke up" the x-gene in mutants. I'd also be ok with them already existing and just flying waaaaay below the radar. "X-Men Evolution" was awesome! Best Nightcrawler outside of the comics version.
To me, the cleanest way to pull off adding mutants to the MCU is if they've just been there all along. I'd love it if the first X-Men movie took place in the '60s with a version of the classic team, and ended with Xavier's decision to use his telepathy to hide mutants from the world. Then the second X-Men movie can start in the "present" MCU with Xavier's death, leading to mutants being rediscovered by the world at large.
I have two theories 1: That the X-Men are hiding in Krakoa and after Secret Wars they will return to form the team 2: That maybe the X-Men don't exist yet and all mutants are discovering themselves and then Professor X will go after them offering their parents to be at Xavier School
The only problem I have with this is that for the original team to have been formed in the 60's would mean that they were at least teenagers then. So by 2026 ( or whatever the current year is in the MCU) Scott and Jean and Beast would all be at least in their 70's. Not to mention Xavier and Magneto being 80+.
@@DragunovWayne l like your second one. The MCU thrived during the buildup of new characters and origin stories. If they intend to make it last for another decade or so, then they probably should use this opportunity to refocus on those new additions. And treat each new character to their own origin and recruitment into the new super team.
There's a concept I've had for a while for Mutants in the MCU, and basically, just plaigarize the Inhumans but with Infinity Stones. Basically, make it so the X-Gene is dormant in a select group of people, and is activated by Infinity Stone Energy (Like with Wanda and Pietro). After both of the Snaps, every mutant worldwide suddeny had their powers activate. This allows for mutants to have existed before, but the majority of the rise of the mutant population be a recent development, and an urgent issue to deal with. As well, we can explain older mutans like Magneto. Maybe in his case, he got his powers from Hydra experimentation.
My issue with this is that Mutants being simply just naturally occurring is rather core to the theme. If they get induced like inhumans it takes away something important.
@@Kekkersboy I agree. However I would also be fine with a nice middle ground. Perhaps there were mutants for years and years, but they either never made themselves present or were just doing things in secret. It’s not until a massive amount of the population starts unlocking mutations that the X-Men and other major characters come out of hiding.
This was always my preferred theory until MoM, it would have also allowed them to say that some mutants like Xavier, Magneto and Apocalypse existed previously and gained their powers naturally but they were just such a statistical anomaly that they went completely unnoticed
I think having the mutants as a group that have kept to themselves for all this time, refusing the call to action despite the chaos around them, and finally giving in and outing their existence would both give explanation to them not being known, and start the conflict of them vs society.
Personally I'm kinda sick of all the secret societies that have been hanging around for decades. Each one they add just seems more and more implausible.
So one idea, what if some of the fear, comes with people who came back from the flip with obvious mutant powers. The idea that maybe a child came back looking different or even "monstrous" or with a "death touch" could lead to parents abandoned their child, beings cared of them. The idea that to these scared, superstitious parents angry or afraid that their child came back "wrong." There is a chance we would then see a lot of homeless, a lot of scared kids with powers they don't understand, trying to find their place in the world. Ripe for all sorts of people to take advantage of, or try to help in their own way. A story like that could actually be very changeling-esque( As in the old folklore).
Do it like nando said, have some mutants exist pre snap. Ancient ones and small pockets nothing big enough to start a scene in the modern Era. Also I'm not saying it's the way to go but it not like mcu is known for being 100% accurate to a characters history, or heck in some cases even try to be accurate. The mcu has always been about sticking closer to themes and broad concepts about the heroes. And I would argue even then they change those or get it wrong. I'm not saying that's the right way to do things just that it's a fact about how the mcu works
I feel mutant hate has been getting set up due to recent public backlash towards super humans, Spider-Man "killing" Mysterio, Wanda holding a town captive and to a lesser extent John Walker publicly executing someone and the Flag Smashers in general, this i feel could lead to a fear of unknown super people making it so that when random super folks start showing up it leads to an almost instant disdain for them
I think you being very, VERY focused on hatred of mutants originating from kids hits hard right now. “Protecting kids” is the main argument against LGBTQ rights these days, specifically trans rights. I think if the MCU mutants take the direction you’re thinking, they could have some very interesting things to say about that
It's great since the X-Men were created specifically to explore discrimination in both why and how people are discriminated against and the affect it has on both the individual and societal level.
I was really hoping they would be introduced into the MCU by the snap that brought everyone back. I thought maybe since they were technically recreated we could have a large amount of people come back with altered DNA that brought about their powers. Edit: I just got to the part in the video where you bring this up and I'm so happy you thought the same. Lol
Building on what you said about Nick Fury: He has an agent in Westchester “spying” on the school as a teacher, Sean Cassiday the Banshee. This makes Banshee a little older than the rest. Its comic accurate because Sean is an agent of SHIELD. He also could be a double agent because not only did Xavier find out he is a SHIELD agent, but he is also a mutant. Then we turn this into the Generation X movie.
assuming i'm not making up subtext at 11:44, i really like the allegory here. maintains the role the mutants have always held, but modernizes it. hopefully it's done well and persuades a few people.
I still like the idea that a House of M type event happened maybe around the 60s where all the mutants disappeared from existence including knowledge of them. Then something could have undone that and the mutants could come back like from the snap where they come back exactly as they left.
Honestly I think the snaps could explain all of it. The blip snap’s energy could have activated dormant x genes in the present leading to mutants in the present, while any of the snaps, and specifically the reality stone and time stone, could have changed the past leading to the long lived mutants. The one thing that is most important to me is that the MCU does there own thing with mutants and doesn’t use any of the Fox stuff.
No no no… none of this the stones changed the past thing. Just have Xavier hiding the academy with a few mutants and a few independent mutants like Logan and magnito scattered around the world. Then have the blip activate the x gene in more people causing mutants to become more public.
Fury knowing about the Weapons + program makes total sense: It was based on the Super Soldier program, trying to make more super soldiers. Fury knows about the Super Soldier program through Captain America. Then there's the program General Ross puts Emil Blonsky through in The Incredible Hulk, creating the Abomination. Fury also knows about this. And although not specifically mentioned in the MCU, this would've been the Weapons 9/IX project, and after being deemed a failure, the Weapons X/10 project would be started, creating Wolverine. And then Weapons 11, which gave us Deadpool.
Striker NEEDS to be the first villain for all the reasons you spoke about him. He comes out swinging with hatred to establish that these heroes are different and persecuted. I think he'd play a similar exposition esque role that riddler played in the batman - using societal trouble as a way to both act villainous and establish lore.
That works a lot, I thought of them using Scarlet Witch to retcon Mutants into existence, but this makes more sense given that Wanda herself had powers way before the mind stone interaction
in the first Iron man movie, when Tony is testing his new suit, he goes past a Ferris wheel, and sees a kid eating ice cream, while we are distracted by that, Jarvis is telling him about the last record broke by the Blackbird going into Space, they went into space in Dark Phoenix, to rescue the astronauts
In an alternate universe, Flacon is Angel. That'd be a fun conversation! "So you actually have natural wings to fly around... That's nice. AND you're rich? Now you're just flicking with me!"
Antony Starr as Wolverine Aya Cash as Jean Grey Chris Pine as Cyclops Freema Agyeman as Storm Brandon Flynn as Iceman Kaitlyn Dever as Kitty Pryde Zoey Deutch as Rogue Jared Padalecki as Gambit Giancarlo Esposito as Professor X Sam Richardson as Beast Jason Isaacs as Magneto
I also hope we get to see more sides of how people view/treat mutants. Like maybe parents who don't hate their mutant kids are concerned about them going off and becoming superheroes, since thanks to them growing up in Superhero culture they likely would want to go off and do dangerous stuff. Or maybe we could see the 2-faceness of the media and Hollywood. Where they praise and pat themselves on the back for how "educated" they are even though they don't care about them and just want to use them to get more attention. (Heck that would be an awesome story for Dazzler). And we could see how people who are accepting and sympathetic to mutants can still be worried about how they use their powers (say what you want about X-3 but the scene where the president and Beast talk about weaponizing the cure was great.) Basically, I hope we don't just get the standard bigotry angle we've gotten from most of the previous X Films that all amount to them saying, "Prejudice is bad."
I had an idea for the MCU version of the Phoenix Force, and how to tie it to the greater MCU. Tie it to the Infinity Stones. Idea is, everytime anyone ever used the Stones, any of the Stones, there was always some kind of excess energy byproduct released. Over the course of millions of years of the Stones being used, all this excess energy finally comes together and coalesces into one new being: The Phoenix Force. Hence, the Phoenix is basically the successor to the Infinity Stones.
Could be an interesting call back. When Marvel was leaning on X-Men in the 80s/90s they played with the idea of making Falcon and a mutant. Same with Cloak and Dagger and a couple others.
I low-key thing that one super cool way to introduce xMen is with a mini series of like 3 episodes starring a completely new character and It ends with them going to the Xavier institute
Charl ❤️ I always liked the idea of Deadpool showing up in the MCU, and, having nowhere to go, finds the Xavier institute. *knock knock* “Hello?” “Wait, you’re not James McAvoy!”
They had the perfect opportunity a few years ago. Post-credits scene of Captain Marvel. Rogue out of nowhere, takes Carol's powers - effectively removing a disliked character from the roster and introducing a beloved one. Win win
Prof X could be a huge plot point for Secret wars and how the mutants were kept under wraps for so long. As for Deadpool it only makes sense that he enters the MCU along with Domino and Cable via the time slip
If I was to give my explanation for mutants. Its that mutants are 1/1000000 chance. Like before “The Snap”. It was just that for one mutant there be millions of humans. But after the snap people instinct kicked in and those who had dormant X gene unlocked their powers. Then immediately been taken by either Xavier or Magneto.
When the first Multiverse of Madness trailers were coming out, I had this theory on how mutants would appear. My idea was that Wanda would be tried by the Illuminati for the crime of ridding her universe of mutants. So the idea was, her famous “No More Mutants” line already happened and we would see flashbacks and she would undo it by the end. Obviously that didn’t happen but it was a cool idea at the time
There's actually an episode of X-Men in the comics that is a flash-back where Logan and Captain America team up on a mission during WW2. It's in the same arc as Logan meeting Jubilee for the first time.
Fun fact, back in 2016 the Library and Archives of Canada "released" Wolverine's attestation papers when he "joined" the Canadian Expeditionary Force at the start of WWI.
I think something should come from Tiamut being a giant rock in the ocean. 1. Scientists and/or looters/curious people can break pieces off and that can be the new terrigen crystal-esque source to give people powers. 2. The water can be “contaminated/irradiated” by Tiamut corroding slowly in the ocean. People’s dna can be slowly changed by this radiation. Marvel likes to keep it simple, so the explanation will most likely be The Snap but that is just my ideas.
What I've been wondering since Multiverse of Madness is, did they introduce Incursions so that in 5-10 years, they can reboot the whole MCU with younger, re-cast versions (or horrifying de-aged deep faked simulacra) of Tony, Steve, Natasha, and anyone else who maybe aged out of the franchise? And if so... are they stalling on introducing the X-Men so that they can just say this new rebooted 616 also has mutants and always did? I'm probably not right but I could be.
I highly doubt they’d use it to reset the whole MCU IMO it’s way more likely that they use the incursion to have mutants come into existence and retconned to have always existed but leave the rest of the MCU untouched
They seem to be pretty okay with just leaving behind some characters and letting new ones come to the forefront. I doubt it will be any time soon we get a new Tony Stark.
@@dangibbins5435 I feel like they would lose a lot of audience members with any kind of reboot. Any dedicated MCU fan I have talked to makes it very clear they watch most of the movies or shows specifically because of them being in the same continuity. They see me as crazy for liking how DC keeps Young Justice completely separate from the Harley Quinn show and that from The Suicide Squad. They like the idea of some new hero taking the place of Iron Man rather than there ever being another Tony Stark. As soon as you do a reboot a ton of them are going to jump ship since quote "none of it matters at that point."
The hex making mutants is my favorite. Because I want to see what powers Darcy gets. Then she teams up with Agent Woo as they go around troubleshooting strange events.
I made a theory on Twitter saying what if the mutants mind wiped humanity and already are on planet Arrako/mars. Something may have caused Mars to become unstable and now they look to return.. To me this could solve everything about why they haven't intervened .. I could see them having a hidden Krakoa gate on earth hiding somewhere..
The mutants have always been around, but any time there is a significant event infolving them, Xavier uses Cerebro to wipe the world's memories of the event, or at least the mutant element of the event. At the end of the movie, Jean and Scott convince Xavier that for better or worse, its time to stop hiding. Then the credits sequence is showing notable events in the MCU timeline where the Xmen were actually present but we as an audience "forgot" about it when Xavier wiped our memories; such as the original battle for New York against Loki, show the Xmen also included in that iconic Avenger circle shot.
I love Wolverine teamed up with Captain America in a Vietnam War to win the Vietnam War when he first made his appearance and a Captain America's War back into the Vietnam War opening credits of excellent Origins Wolverine. What a team up.
One thing that’s occurred to me watching this video, and reflecting on our world, is this: If mutants existed HERE, the crowd who hates and fears them would probably be the same crowd as the anti-science, anti-intellectual, did-my-own-research crowd. Like, I think we’ve come to know these people better over the last few years than ever before. In the MCU, these are the people who would think the x-gene is a fake news cover story, or some woke agenda, or pharma conspiracy, or cover for some New York intellectual to come swoop up their kids, and groom and traffic them. Their pastor (like Stryker) tells them “the truth” - that mutation is a result of sin and social contagion.
I think a cool way to bring Mutants into the MCU would be too have a Disney+ show called "Sinister" that would be a Breaking Bad style "hero" turned villain study, that follows Nathaniel Essex over about 200 years, and reveal all the little secrets about how and why mutants exist and are a secret, basically revealing a grand conspiracy behind it all that re-contextualizes a lot of the MCU. Hear me out: you start off with Mr. Sinister bring aware that he's different than normal humans, but not sure exactly how, so he dedicates his life to the new study of evolution to find out. Early on he wants to help humanity (he still thinks he is one, just different), and wants to help people who are "others" like himself. His research is funded by a mysterious person, however, who seems to be 10 steps ahead of everyone, who would be an in disguise (but obvious to fans) Apocalypse. Over the course of the show the audience would learn the Apocalypse has seeded the X-gene through humanity over thousands of years, and Sinister is the first of them to be active. Sinister's efforts throughout the show would be tracking the carriers if the gene and taking measures up keep it all of the books and out of the public, as well as essentially helping to stear the course of the entire MCU, kind of exactly opposite of the Eternals. In order to make Apocalypse more of a threat to the audience, they could strongly suggest that he knows the future, knows the snap will come, and knows that his time isn't until after Thanos, and thus, will keep mutants a secret until such time, pulling strings from the shadows, using highly skilled mutants like Sister to control genetic information, and others in very high places. The creation of super heroes in general, like Captain America, could be shown to have been incepted by Apocolypse, as he knew he'd be necessary to defeat Thanos. I love the idea of Apocolypse getting snapped, but being 100% prepared for it, knowing that it's all going according to his plan in way only someone familiar with the future could. The tragedy of Sinister would be him becoming jaded with humanity, and their need to demonize "others." Sinister's "cure" would ultimately be a hypocritical one, eventually coming to believe that, through genetics, he could improve humanity, make a perfect species free of senseless hate, and basically reshaping humanity to be more like him, and this, not very accepting of anything other than his "perfect" species. As an aside, I like the idea of him being a leftie, and going by the moniker "Mr. Sinister" because Sinister actually just means "left handed," and the fact that the word "sinister" has come to mean evil upsets him, as it's just an example of villifying the "other," so he uses it in order to reclaim the word.
I want mutants to be created by Mister Sinister and have him be the X-Men's main villain. The mutant kids angle would be very dark, but I welcome it since the idea of mutants being hated and feared is super important
A simple explanation that I don’t see people talking about is, have deadpool be captured by the tva for the post credit for deadpool 2 and escape into the MCU, just say deadpool caused an incursion, make a avengers vs x men movie with the og cast (-Hugh) and have everyone die (except wade with his healing) and say the x gene is floating around, kinda like terrigen
First off, I appreciate that your video barely touches upon the events of Multiverse of Madness (just not easy for me to see films in theatres anymore, I live too far from one), just sticking to the important points that are hard not to spoil (that mutants aren't actually introduced in it). I've had to avoid far too many channels lately because they aren't gunshy about talking full-on spoilers for MoM in only tangentially-related videos, so your ability to avoid any major spoilers for this is so welcome. Onto your actual points: I agree that it's best to just introduce the X-Men as a thing people just didn't really know about (at most, they'd be like the A-Team or something, a legend of a group that occasionally helps people), maybe someone like Nick Fury has an idea but doesn't know everything. I am wary about explanations for "why now", though, particularly tying it into Westview or the Celestial - I think it is very important that the X-Gene is a natural occurrence, as that is a vital aspect of the analogy that mutants serve. Having a few famous mutants over the years who aren't viewed as such (Apocalypse, "Lucky Jim", etc.) does fit in with that idea, reflecting famous visible minorities or LGBTQ+ people whose stories have since been ignored/suppressed because of that aspect of their identity, or whose stories continue but without that aspect addressed (possibly hidden or denied). In that vein, I do like the idea of most mutants being part of the younger generation - that seemed to be the initial idea with the characters early on, and works really well for most of the world building, and again fits as an analogue for younger generations who are more open about/welcoming of LGBTQ+ identities. Mutants (and particularly the X-Men) were designed to work as that stand-in for oppressed minorities and it's important they can fill that role (even imperfectly), especially in an MCU that has given us a lot of people in a position of societal power, whether rich guys like Tony Stark or government agents like Nick Fury, Black Widow & Hawkeye, or military icons like Captain America. Just my feelings off the cuff, really - I honestly hadn't thought much along these lines until I started thinking about this video.
11:00 Interesting you bring that up, as that's effectively Nitro's personality and character arc in Wolverine and the X-Men. It's an interesting twist on both his personality and the usual goals of that show, where he himself and the team WANT to bring him to the MRD, so that way he can't be on Genosha to suddenly and uncontrollably blow up, killing the majority of the mutant population on Earth. Also, man, I wish we could just get the honest journalist Jonah has been in some iterations of the comic. When he defends mutants and decries Spider-Man at the same time in the Ultimate series is a great moment.
this is unfortunately the likely reality. there's so many moving parts that I'm not sure if the X-Men could be faithfully and fully integrated into the MCU. If a bunch of other things have an answer, one problem is still left. If you answer that problem with a new set of solutions, then something else becomes an issue. and so on.
Yeah I feel you on that one. I just hope that it wouldn't be a blunder Kevin Fiege gotta stick it for the dismount. And old school fans of the X-men like myself and all who watched this video are truthfully looking to compare it with X-men TAS. I know that it's not fair and rightfully so, I'm just calling it like I see it. If they mess this up heads will roll on social media and I think the MCU super lotto numbers begin diminishing.
7:40 with the upcoming Judgement storyline in the comics, adn Druig believing mutants are actually deviants in that story, this makes perfect sense. It also answers the question of ancient mutants existing and if done correctly could lead to Krakoa sooner. Also, please Marvel, keep Wanda away from mutants, they've already done a version of HoM for her in the MCU (twice), and keeping them separated makes sense since she doesnt have ties to Magneto there. Also, the hate to mutants in the MCU does make sense, most of the heroes are non enhanced humans and the superpowered ones are rarely human, the only powered human, Wanda, is actually feared and we see that in CW, imagine a bunch of humans getting powers, that would send masses into hysteria.
prior to watching multiverse of madness I was like "Yo they're gonna pull an anti-House of M and Wanda's just gonna meet Professor X and he's gonna tell her about mutants in the alternate universe and she's gonna go back home to her universe and just say 'More Mutants' and then there were mutants" ...not sure I still think that now lol
I like the idea that mutants have been in the MCU and simply absent from the focus of our existing lore. The world is a big place. Ursa Major in Black Widow is a great example of how Id like to see others introduced.
I personally see this going one of two ways: 1. Time shennigans because of Loki/Quantumania/others retcon the universe so that mutants have always existed. Sort of how big comic events like Crisis on Infinite Earths rewrite the history of the universe because wibbly wobbly spacey wacey. 2. Mutants have always existed, but in very small numbers. You can have your Magnetos, Apocalypses, etc. The mutant population exists, but is very small. In the hundreds max. But the Blip causes something similar to the Terrigen Mist where somehow it activates the latent X-Gene in a bunch of people. Suddenly the mutant population skyrockets. This means you can do a combination of stories set in the past with the small amounts of mutants and sort of a "Brave New World" situation where all of a sudden, mutants exist and are in the public consciousness. As for why people hate them....well, racism and homophobia still exist to this day. People fear what they don't understand. I can totally see guys like Stryker fanning the fans of uncertainty to full blown hatred.
I like the second idea, it really doesn't need to be with the X-Men formed and yes they are all still discovering themselves until they start to be seen as a threat to humanity, their parents kick them out of the house and then Charles shows up to help them and be trained to form a team and thus be ready to save the world
Personally thought that you could explain Mutants' sudden arrival would be due to the cosmic radiation from using all six Stones three separate times on Earth has begun to seep into the population and give aspects of the stones’ power to humans. So Mutants like Cyclops or Gambit would’ve gotten their Lazers and Kinetic abilities from the Power Stone, Charles’s Physic ability from the Mind Stone, Mystique’s Shape-Shifting from the Reality Stone, Nightcrawler’s Teleportation from the Space Stone, and so on. Kinda like how Wanda’s (pre retcon) and Pietro's powers originated in the MCU from them being ‘Mutated’ by Strucker’s Experiments with the Scepter. And I kinda prefer this over Mutants just existing all this time, because then it’d be using developments we’ve seen on screen as a jumping-off point. And Movie watchers and characters in Universe could look at this rise of Mutants and say “Oh, we’ve seen this before, it’s like that on mass cause of what both Thanos and the Avengers have done”.
@@arthurshelby2133 I think it would be better if the stones would have “amplified” their powers. Kinda like how we saw Wanda had some sort of powers when she was a kid in WandaVision
Could do it like Morrison's run. Mutants existed, X-gene was latent, then the Phoenix Force activated millions of X-genes. Replace Phoenix with Infinity Stones.
My idea to have the X-Men introduced to the MCU: 1. Debut In A Disney Plus Series Entitled Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. 2. Wolverine's Origin.
I think it’d be cool if Xzavier’s school was in Australia. They’ve had historical ties to Australia and sense the country really only has city’s on the coast so I’d be easy to hide.
About Fury knowing about Mutants, have you ever seen the extended deleted version of Fury's cameo in Iron Man? He references Mutants and radioactive spiders. Mutants are better when they are an evolution of humanity, the next big step that is not the result of alien shenanigans. The mutant gene can be kick started by the recent energy releseses and threats on Humanity that stresses the dormant X gene, but it has to be already there. Something natural, inevitable, hereditary.
Definitely wasn't expecting a segment involving New Jersey geography. I always assumed it was a south jersey town since it's more farmy - you know - the pork roll/hoagie part.
Could marvel hire you PLEASE. You manage to solve all the issues I have, and you did it with such a deep knowlodge and understanding of mutant history. I hope the writers working on this see your video.
I think there should be 2 Mutant Types. Type 1 have physical mutations and may have more than one power because their whole body is different. Type 2 appear completely human but can manipulate energy or physics with their nervous system, they tend to have only one power. Some mutants like Nightcrawler are Type 1/Type 2. They would be controlled differently, Type 1 need to be drugged with Beast's serum to limit their powers, while Type 2 need to be fitted with the power damping collar.
Here's my problem with every "Why do mutants show up now?" thought experiments, not something against Nando himself but just in general. Mutants are an allegory for oppressed minorities, that's established pop culture knowledge, so trying to come up with a "How do mutants exist now?" scenario feels extremely tone deaf and could feed into specifically homophobe talking points about "wokeness" and Queerness being a "fad." Nando seems to know this as he establishes there should be older mutants who existed before the big "mutant boom" who just weren't thought of as mutants due to the X-gene/mutation not being a well-studied thing, which is actually the most allegorical for the mutants-as-LGBTQ+ people and actually, left-handedness. Left-handedness for generations was shamed, and in some extreme instances left-handed people even had violence done to them, but slowly over time that changed, "lefties" stopped being shamed and killed and instead counted. This caused a perceived "rise" in the population that was left-handed until it finally settled at the percentage it is today. I expect we will see a similar trend with the LGBTQ+. There shouldn't be an in-universe explanation for where mutants come from like multiversal energy, or the Blip, or Scarlet Witch speaking them into existence, and especially shouldn't be a disease, the only explanation Mutants need is "You finally started counting us."
This is why the explaination i like best is that xavier has been keeping them safe and secret from the rest of the world, protecting them from prejudice. As for the "why now" part, either have them choose to step out of the shadows, or some big mutant rights protest magneto does forces them out, or professor x dies of old age and with his passing suddenly the mutants need to find someone else to keep them safe
I’m so glad you left this comment because I felt the same way. Especially when he said being a mutant could be treated like having “a disease” and that it could be contagious. Seems extremely tone deaf considering what mutants have always been an allegory for; minorities.
The best explanation could be 'while you were sleeping, the world changed'. Not my original idea-- but I heard someone suggest that mutants have always been there. For example, in the battle for New York, there's Storm and Cyclops helping with civilians, editied into the old footage. And no one noticed because of science fiction or just because they weren't looking. But now, they wont hide anymore. Hence the explosion of mutants.
I think Dr. Strange 2 gave us the answer with the Incursion that is mentioned where two universes combine into one. You have a universe that has mutants and the Fantastic Four somehow merge with the mainline universe by way of an Incursion caused by America Chavez or the shenanigans in Multiverse of Madness. That also explains why the mutants are hated because they are seen as invaders and not "meant to be here"!
I like the theory that the timeline has been fractured by Kang, so that The Avengers, X-Men and the FF don't all exist on Earth-616, as they would pose too much of a threat to him together.
I would love for the mutants to have been living peacefully on Krakoa, under the radar, until something akin to Sokovia happens that puts them right into the eye of the public.
The current heroes defeat Kang, Kang goes back to time to ancient Egypt to try to rebuild, he contacts the Shiar Space Empire, which doesn't exist in his time, and attempts to absorb the Phoenix force from their ruler when she arrives on Earth, but it backfires horribly, Kang is killed, and the Phoenix Force is dispersed through the atmosphere.
I think these are some interesting ideas. But I think Fiege has his ideas for Mutants. He has talked about in the past having a vault of ideas for characters they did not own in the past (believe this got brought up when the Spider-Man deal happened around 2016). I do know the MCU does get inspired a lot by the Ultimate Universe so it's possible the Mutant population could be introduced similarly to that (I believe it originated with Wolverine?) but then you have to consider the ancient mutants like Apocalypse too. I don't envy the Marvel Studios team on this idea but I know they'll make it work.
I love making Fury the "reasonable authority figure". He leaves Xavier and Magneto alone...because there's no need to make unessecary enemies, and he might even be somewhat sympathetic to some of their goals.
Ooo
Or Fury will "let them fight" dun dun dun
i also like the idea that Fury might suspect Xavier has some sort of OP psychic ability or device (which he obviously both has) and that's why they've stayed hidden for so long & why he knows not to mess with the bald guy
Even fury said in Avengers there are" people who are becoming unmatched "
I think the "Why do mutants matter" question is pretty easily answered. They're naturally occurring. People like Iron Man and Ant-Man just have tech that theoretically anyone could get, Cap and Spider-Man are not easily replicated miracles, Moon Knight and Black Panther are avatars of gods, Thor and the Eternals are aliens, but the mutants are humans. They can spring up anywhere and they are frequently called the next step in evolution. Non-mutant people are now afraid they're going to become extinct or obsolete now that super people become commonplace.
I do like your idea though. Obviously the mutants have always been a stand-in for minorities but I think a "we need to protect the children!" angle could be particularly relevant in today's day and age as an LGBT allegory.
or obviously Neurodivergent people
"Stop trying to groom our children to be mutants!"
@@ogrejehosephatt37 "have you tried, not being a mutant"
I believe it went that way with Angel but I cannot remember for the life of me
I choose to believe the Wolverine vid is on hold because Nando actually got cast as Wolverine and isn't allowed to let it spill yet
Poor Daniel Radcliffe :(
I had the idea that "interacting" with an Infinity Stone can activate or strengthen dormant X genes.
@@brunopereira6789 The ones whose powers activate without any interference from the stones might be rare exceptions.
I want a whole vid of Nando doing his Steven Grant impression.
This
For the Charles thing, I would add that ever since Tony revealed himself to be Iron Man, Charles decided to find and train youngsters to make a team, through the years, as they were growing, they watched the surge of the Avengers, the events of Sokovia and the Civil War, the snap, but now, they're finally ready to go into the world.
Agreed
I have two theories
1: That the X-Men are hiding in Krakoa and after Secret Wars they will return to form the team
2: That maybe the X-Men don't exist yet and all mutants are discovering themselves and then Professor X will go after them offering their parents to be at Xavier School
ah yes, the vulture, famous X-Men villain along with Jared "Morb" Leto. fantastic video as always nando, had lots of fun with this
Morbtan
I'm for the mutants have been there the whole time, Xavier just been hiding them while him and Erik work out their relationship.
That is not your interpretation, that is Stan Lee's interpretation.
Agree.
Also right now there aren't that many superpowered beings in the MCU and the ones that exist all chose the be heroes and protect mankind. The mutants however tried to live a normal life and did nothing. This could also upset a lot of people. For dumb reasons of course, but that's how racism works.
Also because when they are young people are accidentally killing others so adding that to it too
It seems like a post-Snap world would have a simple explanation for hating mutants. Their lives were destroyed by superhumans.
While I do agree, I still think mutants should be oppressed and hated in some way, because there’s no point if they aren’t.
i think bc average humans have been so deeply affected by superhero adjacent beings and events, having these people "hiding among us" is perfectly suitable to the mcu. mutants have always been a vehicle to parody and criticize republican media men, and their rhetoric. i can perfectly see a j jonah jameson character spreading fear about the next thanos in your childrens' classroom
To be fair that’s also true in the comics and that doesn’t stop it there
Plus I think you can argue that there’s a difference between accepting technology, magic and the occasional super soldier and accepting the existence of an entirely new race of superhumans that are supposedly destined to replace regular humanity
All it takes is one bad mutant to make the world fear of the next bad one is among them
In the MCU, powers typically come from accidents and experimentation.
Big fan of this idea
Love it
My only issue is where were the x-men during the events of the snap and other world events? Also what missions and other training have they accomplished.
This is kinda like my idea i have but instead of Charles dying he gets snapped due to thanos and when he gets resnapped from hulk and try to help them
@@Diegoxo9 I think they would probably have disappeared in somewhere around late 90’s or early 2000’s.
It would be interesting, but i would prefer to see Xavier alive all the way towards the next Infinity War like event
Thanks to Ms. Marvel, I think you got your wish.
I have two theories
1: That the X-Men are hiding in Krakoa and after Secret Wars they will return to form the team
2: That maybe the X-Men don't exist yet and all mutants are discovering themselves and then Professor X will go after them offering their parents to be at Xavier School
I actually really like this idea. Erik getting this powers thanks to Hydra gives him a solid connection between Pierto & Wanda.
@@arnahunas4048 so not a biological father, but a father in spirit
I think having the mutants as a group that have kept to themselves for all this time, refusing the call to action despite the chaos around them, and finally giving in and outing their existence would both give explanation to them not being known, and start the conflict of them vs society.
Personally I'm kinda sick of all the secret societies that have been hanging around for decades. Each one they add just seems more and more implausible.
@@BikoFactory Yeah that’s fair
Brooksbrigmon2533 that might make sense if apocalypse the mutant didn’t exist
Making it so the snap/blip activates the gene could be am alegory for sntivaxers and autism
But what about ancient mutants like The Externals (Apocalypse, Selene, etc.)? What about their comic histories?
I think if the MCU mutants take the direction you’re thinking, they could have some very interesting things to say about that
It's great since the X-Men were created specifically to explore discrimination in both why and how people are discriminated against and the affect it has on both the individual and societal level.
ooh now that's a very interesting angle
Protecting kids from transitioning when theyre extremely young is the right thing to do.
@@globesurfer122 There’s that and then there’s “just look away from the trans, do not interact with a trans just ignore them”
@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec agreed!
That actually makes sense, I like it
assuming i'm not making up subtext at 11:44, i really like the allegory here. maintains the role the mutants have always held, but modernizes it. hopefully it's done well and persuades a few people.
NO! The X-Men are not Inhumans

I always liked the idea of Deadpool showing up in the MCU, and, having nowhere to go, finds the Xavier institute.

Prof X could be a huge plot point for Secret wars and how the mutants were kept under wraps for so long.
As for Deadpool it only makes sense that he enters the MCU along with Domino and Cable via the time slip
I like the Nick Fury bit. There is that take from Iron Man 1 where fury brings up “men who can stick to walls and mutants”
Deadpool sees a file titled “Mutants” and saves it in a folder titled “Disney”. Boom 💥 mutants in the MCU
That impression was incredibly impressive
When the first Multiverse of Madness trailers were coming out, I had this theory on how mutants would appear. My idea was that Wanda would be tried by the Illuminati for the crime of ridding her universe of mutants. So the idea was, her famous “No More Mutants” line already happened and we would see flashbacks and she would undo it by the end. Obviously that didn’t happen but it was a cool idea at the time
That would’ve been cool but Wanda kinda didn’t know she was a mutant until… well she still apparently doesn’t.
You’re a genius, I genuinely didn’t think about it this way but your pitch is definitely the best way they can introduce mutants and the X-Men
I think something should come from Tiamut being a giant rock in the ocean.
I highly doubt they’d use it to reset the whole MCU
IMO it’s way more likely that they use the incursion to have mutants come into existence and retconned to have always existed but leave the rest of the MCU untouched
They seem to be pretty okay with just leaving behind some characters and letting new ones come to the forefront. I doubt it will be any time soon we get a new Tony Stark.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 Absolutely they do. But a lot can happen in the amount of time it would take to set up a Secret Wars movie to do a reboot.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 As I say, I may well be wrong. I often am on such matters.
Charl!
Now THAT is the crossover I've been waiting for.
I think there’s no easy, fluid way to do this. They’re just gonna have to shove mutants in there at some point, and we’re just gonna roll with it.
this is unfortunately the likely reality. there's so many moving parts that I'm not sure if the X-Men could be faithfully and fully integrated into the MCU.
I really want Timothy Oliphant to play Magneto. He's got that look nowadays. Tons of charisma.
prior to watching multiverse of madness I was like "Yo they're gonna pull an anti-House of M and Wanda's just gonna meet Professor X and he's gonna tell her about mutants in the alternate universe and she's gonna go back home to her universe and just say 'More Mutants' and then there were mutants"
...not sure I still think that now lol
I like the idea that mutants have been in the MCU and simply absent from the focus of our existing lore. The world is a big place. Ursa Major in Black Widow is a great example of how Id like to see others introduced.
Glad you're back Nando!
I personally see this going one of two ways:
I like the second idea, it really doesn't need to be with the X-Men formed and yes they are all still discovering themselves until they start to be seen as a threat to humanity, their parents kick them out of the house and then Charles shows up to help them and be trained to form a team and thus be ready to save the world
That’s Steven grant impression was *chefs kiss*
1:04 Making Steven explain Apocalypse is so ironic lol
Not Nando getting ahead of everyone ranting about the Wolverine video 😂
Heh. Pedro
@@jorgec98 Don’t known how I messed that one up
But then that takes away from characters history like wolverine, or magneto and apocalypse
Marvel should probably hire you. You'd even have like an Assistant Kevin Feige title (similar to assistant director, etc)
Assistant to the regional Feige
My idea to have the X-Men introduced to the MCU:
1. Debut In A Disney Plus Series Entitled Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
2. Wolverine's Origin.
Here from the Ms. Marvel finale. They just did.
Warren Worthington the 3rd Archangel is the most underrated X-Men character & low key has an OP powerset
I really like how you manage to create these so smoothly
Could you do a casting video for Cyclops next and also write him an arc he's so underrated and deserves more respect.
I think it’d be cool if Xzavier’s school was in Australia. They’ve had historical ties to Australia and sense the country really only has city’s on the coast so I’d be easy to hide.
lol “oooooh! Like there’s Gators!”
I sound like that when someone asks about my hobbies
The Steven impression was spot on!
I think the Lucky Jim idea should DEFINITELY be used!!
I have a theory regarding Sokovia why there was a war in the 90s, and why Zemo hates super-powered beings
Kinda funny how you mentioned Steven Grant be the one to mention Apocalypse...given that they're both played by the same actor.
I have a feeling that Fury will have a line about mutants in Secret Invasion. Probably something to do with all three snaps happening on earth.
now we have the first known mutant in the MCU with MS Marvel!
Little children couldn't be mentally able to decide their gender even if that was scientifically possible.
@@hoorahforsnakes Yep. Something where he "erased" the worlds knowledge of them and perhaps eventaully doing a prequel showing how it led to that.
Fury COULD make a mention of Kree threats that are in actuality mutants in Secret Invasion.
Xavier could have been hiding the existing of mutants altogether using Cerebro.
That could have ended by the blip if Charles was blipped.
