@@QUEENBEE200384 I worked with homeless men for about 25 years. In the city there is often nowhere to send someone fresh out of prison other than to a homeless shelter. (I'm in Australia.) Also, at one of the places I worked, the top floor was an actual prison where day release prisoners could live and work in the community, to prepare them for parole or the completion of their sentences. It was a real prison (I know the US has different definitions of "prison" and "jail", but it's all the same here. Just high security, low security, etc. Welfare staff had to try to help released prisoner and parolees to find suitable accommodation, and support for them. I was a welfare worker for a number of years, then a coordinator and manager, but there was always hands on work, and the most difficult cases were my responsibility. Although the man I mentioned above was a client relatively early in my career. I found it personally stressful to see that he meant what he said, and to see the pain he was in. He was not a good man, but I guess like lawyers, we worked with the people who accessed or services, and did our best for them, regardless. It was our job. I would assume in the US a welfare or social work qualification would be required to do this kind of work. Here, at least a two year diploma or Associate diploma would be the minimum, but your country or state may vary, depending on whether it was a government agency or NGO. Any work with people is good for the soul, even if it is thankless. You get a quiet satisfaction from it.

Through it all still a true gentleman they could never home.... welcome back ... 🙏💪👏

What happened to him IS horrific. But he's not "America's oldest slave." Leonard Peltier has been in prison for 47 years for supposedly killing an FBI agent, when another man has already confessed to that long ago. Leonard is a political prisoner. The "Justice Department" chose to make an example of him for his activism for Native American rights. The "system" isn't only stacked against blacks and Latinos, but also against all Native Americans. Especially those who show activism against an unjust system. At the time that Leonard was arrested, the FBI was cutting off the hands of any Native killed, and sending the hands to the FBI in Quantico for identification, deliberately mutilating bodies to humiliate and intimidate Native Americans. Leonard is almost 79, in extremely poor health, and still in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

@@NashobaLusaTaloa but the difference here is your man was a activist. He put himself in a position of political retribution..your man is a political prisoner.. not a man that never did anything to anyone... Kevin never did anything to anyone... and after proven innocent was still kept in prison... that sir is "slavery"... now he did the time and the state got free labor for all these years . With no pay nor compensation... That is slavery sir... clear and simple...he gets no ssi. No ssdi.. not one dime for his efforts...
Facts is facts... you gave yours.. thank u for your opinion ... it's not going to change mine ... don't see why you feel relevant inside your confidence to Tell me anything... are you trying to create negative narratives to openly try to rewrite reality when everyone voices their personal opinions? You must be very lonely for attention that I have no time to give you...but nice try...my condolences to you sir if I don't share your lack of understanding...

This is heart breaking, and unimaginable. The physical, mental and emotional fallout from having been wrongfully imprisoned for over 4 decades cannot be overstated. This man is going to need every sort of support, not just financial (which is huge in and of itself) but psychological as well. He’ll need intensive therapy to develop good coping skills and most of all, emotional support from people who truly hold his well-being foremost. I pray to God that he will bless this man every way possible for the rest of his days.
