GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
gma.yahoo.com/
17 years for stealing a purse but people get less than 10 for murder , the justice system is corrupt.
Thats right Brenda. Cheers.
@Rosalee Smith Not always the other guy talked about in the video was on his 11th year and counting but he was freed on year 11. But Child rapist seem to get the fewest years for some stupid reason. It all depends on the Judge I believe. Some judges can give you more and some can give you less seems to be the trend. I don't think they're a consistent number for how long you can go to person for x crime. All I know is that crimes with a lot of publicity get more years too just cause everyone is watching. Like Harvey Weinstein. I'm pretty sure there are people just as bad as him not serving the same sentences.
Exactly what I was coming to say
And some get nothing
They get way more for drugs, but crime pays or the government wouldn’t do it.
this man lost 17 years of his life for a crime he did not commit. no money can ever replace the times he could’ve spent with his loved ones.
Never mind the PTSD you experience from being locked up probably witnessed several stabbings and beatings and god forbid he ever went to the hole and was starved.

They said the charge was aggravated assault which usually means they used a gun or knife and or the victim was injured too. More than just stealing a purse.
Yeah that judge is obviously racist.
Nancy Howard especially trying to steal a purse
This man is incredibly courageous to suffer in prison for a crime he didn't commit. I was assaulted 11 years ago.I was so traumatized I couldn't properly ID the two guys who did it, so I chose not to pick anyone from the photos I was shown by the police. There was no way I'd send an innocent person to prison .
you're very brave.
@Beth A...very Brave indeed. I am sorry that happened to you. But for you to be strong enough not to lash out and hurt someone (anyone) else. ...is quite something too. 💜💜💜You're not a victim but a Survivor. 💜
I wish everyone had access to quality healthcare especially victims of trauma and Veterans. Good luck in your life.
You are actually a very good person to believe this. Their are many people out their who after being victimized want someone to be held accountable so badly, they will accept anybody being tried and convicted just to feel better.
Same thing happened to me i wasnt able to pick a person cuz even thought one of the line up pics looked like the person it somewhat didnt completely look like him they even found his facebook and none of the facebook pictures looked like it was the same person

Aggravated robbery means the robber was armed with a deadly weapon, had an accomplice, or actually inflicted serious bodily harm on the victim. Some states, like Illinois, include the threat of bodily harm in the definition of aggravated robbery.
@@lisatinbliki5691 He did not even steal the purse. If it was aggravated to that degree you would think he would have managed to get the purse? In most European countries 17 years is what you get for murder.
Yes u did hear tight
Aggravated assault is when they have a weapon (gun and/or knife usually) at the scene present and often in these cases the victim was injured, it wasn't "just" stealing a purse.

Cole Tadlock No that's not correct. If you are falsely accused and spend many years in jail like this man then you can be rewarded with MILLIONS of dollars
Luna Gonzalez I do agree that he should be compensated for all the years he spent in prison making $0.02 an hour or whatever they pay the prisoners to work for commissary. I'm sure his family did the best they could to provide for him while he was on the inside but it does not make up for what he could have done with his life. bless his heart and yes I agree he should be compensated for the years he spent Behind Bars for a crime he did not commit.

The description was of a man that is "tan", so they create a line up with ONE tan man and 5 dark men. That's some BS
It really wasn't a "line up". They reviewed pictures the policy conveniently place so the person they want to be identified is identified. You need to physically walk people in so the victim can see the height and build of the person. The person may look identical to the perpetrator but the height and/or build may be off. Police are corrupt and nothing will change until the Police Chiefs and District Attorneys decide to get rid of the dead weight...starting with themselves. We have power at the ballot box to get trustworthy DA's in office and get the bad apples out.
exactly what I was thinking like Wow!!! who set up that lineup?????
That’s another way how officers 👮♂️ faulty place innocent black men in the system. It’s a guarantee that black man is going to prison. DISGUSTING!!!! 🤬
I wonder what would have happened if both of the men had been on the photo line up. Would the victim have picked the right one? I think he had a good chance of being arrested and convicted anyway because his supposed doppelgänger was evil. He was probably no angel himself because I think that people with similar faces tend to have similar minds. How they're raised makes the difference.
@@plantmaster3339 Is this man black? He looks like a multiracial person to me. And whilst I'm not saying that the police were right, the reason why the "innocent black men" are in the system is because the black men who did the crimes allowed them to be by failing to confess when an innocent person was arrested and by committing the crimes in the first place.
I'm not sure why you're being so racist as if there are absolutely no black people in the police force and as if other races (because again this man doesn't look black to me) don't get shafted too. Acting as if black people are the only victims of racism or injustice is racist too. Do you realise that?

Spending 17 years confined to a cell with no space for ten million dollars its good and your also stating that hr probably wouldnt have made that amount in his entired life.I mean, being in the streets with your freedom, he had a better chance of making 100 million dollars as opposed to 10 millions dollars then he does or did in prison confined to a very small space, and last but not least-freedom doesnt have a fucking price. You will realize that once you are in there, but people who havent been through shit in life couldnt possibly even begin to comprehend or understand the concept of what it is like to be free and without any problems, and therefor are likely to take their stipulation for granted as opposed to being appreciative.
The line up had one light skinned guy and the rest were really dark
that was such a flawed line up lol you cant even see the other guys faces
I assume they would've blacked out the other faces for security reasons
exactly she said tanned not dark skinned and they put one tanned man who else would she had picked
+thegreatonecometh200 if he had a good lawyer something probably could have been done about that
Thank You! This aggravated me so much! What a suggestive lineup!
I hope the rest of his life is absolutely amazing.
That’s a shame I’m so sorry he went through all that crap
17 years for stealing a purse , 10 years for sexual assault ? Wow
Ava Rodriguez trying* to steal a purse
Ava Rodriguez so if you were sexually assaulted would you still be against the time he got ?
So sad, he can't ever get those 17 years of his life back. They better pay him millions for that mistake smh.
Yah he sound get 17 mil 1 mil a year
Sadly. The won't
How about 17 years for the prosecutors/police/judges who didn't do their job right.
That is so sad and so scary!!!
Job Interview
Job: Why were you in prison?
RJ: Do you have the time for a little story?
damn, poor guy, he missed his daughters life, money won't fix the fact that he lost so much time in the real world.
yeah that's what breaks my heart. Most parents hurt over how fast the years of their children being little have flown by and feel like they "miss out" on so much, through work, worries etc. this guy literally missed it all! How deeply deeply sad!
Dexrll i was the 666 th guy to like
His saying he's looking forward to a second chance and "doing it right this time" at the end made me even sadder. He never did it WRONG in the first place; he served 17 years for NOT stealing a purse.
SNEAKO15 like wtf
Yeah seriously, what an amazing guy. Such a tragedy. But maybe he is inferring he was starting to go down the wrong path before but now his life is forever changed
Actually, he had been charged and convicted of other crimes BEFORE the purse debacle happened. That is what he meant by that.
I my country you get Max 10 for murder.
@Qavoe that's artistic
Oh I felt so so sorry for this man.😔
He should sue the court for defamation of character
He lost 17 years from his life , I wasn't even born yet ☹️😔😭
SARAH Lee hahaa and I was in kindergarten
Stl Stl heyyy me too
SARAH Lee i probably wasn't even sperm yet lmao
same
SARAH Lee he has been in prison longer then I have lived
TRUE STORY: We recently found out that our auntie's husband raped my auntie's daughter (my aunts husbands stepdaughter), he constantly raped her from ages 11-14. We found this out 2 months and a half ago. My auntie's husband was only in prison for about 3 weeks, he is a free man as i'm typing this. And this guy gets 17 years for allegedly stealing a purse...SMH
Oh and yes, he is white...😂😂
Oakland California lol, u laughing like it was a mistake
Oakland California wow dang, that's not fair
That is SICK!
Anais Lisette dont tell me you're inspired to do it...
Unbelievable, 17 years for stealing a purse. These judges and prosecutors should be held accountable for cruel and unsual punishment.
What a wonderful thing to do ❤ ...... save people wrongfully accused!!!! Setting things right ❤....... sometimes it's the best we can do!!!! Bravo!!!!!
Was the purse worth 1million dollars? Like seriously 17 yrs?
silvia ___ it was probably a shabby one with 4 dollars in it from Walmart parking lot
@@amye9655 it was aggregated
Brendon Mendez Do you mean ‘aggravated’? But it might also be that he couldn’t get parole because you have to admit guilt for that.
silvia ___ The state will give you as many years the law allows IF you are a repeat offender. A family member of mine, got robbed for his broken cellphone by a guy who served a year for robbery, then robbed him a week after his release.
It's not the amount we are talking about it's the crime that's committed. Law could care less how much many was in that purse .
students do better police and court work. wow and its not that hard.
Lisa M Yes, I study law and you're spot on. All he has to do is take his case to the county court before the jurors who will set the level of damages received.
in pennsylvania years ago 2 judges were arrested for funneling kids into a for profit juvenile
Alisha ahhhhh no. First: prosecution is immune to lawsuits (federal law). Second even if you did sue the state they would appeal it and blame it on the prosecution(immune). If you are a law student you sure aren't very good at it.
Seth N quote: "they would appeal it and blame it on the prosecution". so they just push the blame? seems fair to waste the time( 17years) of someone innocent
goh zhongsian it's not fair..never said it was fair. Life isn't fair. What do you expect from a government that screws us over on a daily basis? Fairness?
Excellent.🤔. documentary well done
What a cruel world
Damn their resemblance is really shocking!
