The sad part is, surely she isn’t the only one this has happened to..

I have so much respect for the victim’s sister that defended the truth and Tyra even though she gained the family’s hate. That is having a conscience and having a heart.
FACTS...
also why would the family want an innocent person to pay for this?
The strange thing is that she was there and saw who shot. Her family didn't! But I understand her family. To loose a daughter or relative knowing that it was a gang that was there...you know that one killed but your hatred goes to all of them...
@@222222ania I'm guessing they desperately wanted people to pay whether they were actually innocent or not. Not everyone, unfortunately, is level headed or rational in a situation like the one the parents were in. Amazing that the sister could be.
There was no injustice here. If she didn’t pull the trigger, she still deserved every bit of those 23 years. If she did pull the trigger(as she confessed), then this makes it even worse. I can understand why the family alienated the sister. The saddest part of this is that she got out because she was pretty, just like Cyntoia Brown. There are real innocent people behind bars who will stay there because they don’t have a voice/advocate. I’m willing to bet she developed a romantic relationship with her new lawyer, who did everything in his power to free her and employ her at his law firm.
Man. They took the best years of her life from her. She didn't get to build a career, go to college, get married or have kids. They stole her life from her

People, teach your kids to never to talk to the police without a lawyer present, no matter how friendly they might sound.
Richie lol ur a weirdo,u can talk to the police without a lawyer u freak there people to an as long as ur doing nothing illegal there's no problem, plus a kid saying that is just goofy an unnecessary there children not criminals
Sean Huesman I have a lot of family in law enforcement and if you are arrested you should nevet say a word to the police without a ver good attorney. That is just fact.
"As long as ur doing nothing illegal there's no problem" Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Police and prosecutors are under constant pressure to solve crimes as fast as possible. Few of them actually care about whether or not they truly got the right person as long as they get a person they can successfully charge with a crime.
Have you ever heard of wrongful imprisonment and exoneration? Of all the people exonerated in 2015, 40% of the cases were ultimately thrown out because of something called official misconduct. 75% of the exonerations for murder involved police misconduct.
Being actually innocent and having actually done nothing wrong doesn't protect you from that. This is why even police say to never say a single word without your lawyer present. That pressure to solve the crime and prosecute someone often leads police to try to trick you into saying something that makes it sound like you did something wrong.
Scott Gibson lol or just talk to them like a normal person,y'all some sketch balls,I'll talk to them with heroin in my pocket

@Marco Vasquez so zero 'whit' people have been falsely imprisoned?
What an emotional and inspiring story. Such a beautiful girl, both inside and out. My thoughts and prayers go out to her. God delivered salvation thru some amazing people. Bless everyone involved.
People delivered her “salvation.” To thank “god” for everything good to come is so ignorant.
Thank you for your educated opinion. I know it wasn't directed at me because I'm neither ignorant or an atheist. It's horrendous and unforgivable, and there's no real adjective that can truly reflect the amount of disgust and anger that someone could possibly go to jail for YEARS much less 23 YEARS for a crime they did not commit. Javian Johnson Fake confession? She robbed those girls but she was a good enough person to call 911 when she knew someone was hurt. Deffinitly got screwed by her lawyers though.
That's why you dont talk to cops without a lawyer if they book you. Once they put the cuffs, shit the fuck up. Don't answer any questions, ask for your attorney.
Cops are not there to keep you out of jail. They're there to put you IN jail
i hope this man had his karma....
@@korylooper3170 I guess we watched a different video because the video i just watched said she was innocent of all of the crimes including the robbery. She picked the necklace up off the ground so yeah I would say that was a false confession. unless you truly believe police don't coerce you to say things they know are not true just to get a confession.
K M She admitted she took the necklace. You actually believe that she was looking for missing car keys, then tried to calm her friend down and stop the robbery, then walked back to her house and when she heard gunshots thought her friend was shooting at her so she ran faster?? That's the dumbest story I've ever heard. How would she be the lucky person to call 911 and also find the necklace on the ground if she had nothing to do with the crime? That would be the greatest coincidence of all time. She didn't realize her friends were going to kill anybody so she did the right thing and called 911 and they screwed her anyway.. That's why she finally got out!
Innocent people are still in prison today poor Tyra glad she’s set free from the corrupt system
Jay 100 True
Tyra was at the wrong place at the wrong time and she was with the wrong people at the wrong time she didn’t even kill her if anything she called 911 for her.
@angeloeastblanco yeah I thought people that set them up or be with the killers get 10 years or less though
Sad ☹️
And yet the authority to include the pathetic judge in sitting, saw it fit to give the actual murderer a lesser sentence 13 years less) than was dished out to Tyra. America is not a country I remotely want to visit, not out of fear but shear loathing of her police, political and judicial system!
Don't talk to the police without an attorney.
@@scottcharney1091 don’t even speak to them, not even with an attorney. An attorney can’t stop you from saying something that may be held against you. The attorney may not even realize it until you are in the court room and your statements with the police are being used as your own sentencing. Cops know this so they don’t care if your attorney is present or not.

Hi well she knew she was false accused of murder and was thrown in jail to survive all them years. She also knew the only one that could likely do anything about it was her, so she learned, finished school and studying paralegal to help her case. In my eyes it takes someone strong and courageous to achieve that knowing their situation. Now by all means I ain't saying she's a saint either I don't know the woman personally but for anyone to undergo that and still rise out of it koodos to that person.

aaron veranos How do you propose we control the actions of those around us or to know what may or may not happen? Did you discover something you want to share with the rest of humanity? Lol please just stop. Your comment is just ridiculous. We are supposed to somehow be omniscient? You cannot even see into the future no one can because precognition isn't given to us. She is not at fault for something her friend did. Her friend might've been, to her; laid back, funny, smart etc maybe never killed anyone before (considering the fact that they were teenagers at the time and the narrator didn't mention it). She left and called the cops that is the right thing to do. I mean she maybe could've tried talking her friend out of it but who would've bought that? They would've called her a liar. She did well in separating herself from the scene and calling the proper authorities. You have to be trolling no one is that dumb
Congratulations! What a wonderful story, so unfortunate for the sister's family of the victim to disown her for doing the right thing.
The victim's sister really deserves a big thanks...because that could not have been easy at all for her. Also....props to Tyra Patterson for determining to live her life on her own terms despite the seemingly insurmountable odds.

Is anybody else confused on how they said Tyra was in the apartment with her friend, left and met up with a few friends, but then they said she and her friends approached them??? how can she be in both cars
@J dolo ok tysm
What I don't understand is the necklace wasn't taken from the girl until after she was shot. How did Tyra pick up the necklace off the ground if she wasn't there when the gunshots happened her and her friends started running because they thought that the people from the car were shooting at them? Nobody wants to answer that question though. If the necklace was the reason that the girl was shot because she didn't want to give it up how did Tyra pick up the necklace off of the ground but not know that her friend had shot the girl in the car? Because she said she thought the people in the car were shooting at them and had no idea her friend even shot the girl. Something's not right either they're not saying exactly what happened at night or she's remembering stuff wrong. Or she didn't have the necklace at all. Because her story just makes no sense how can you pick up something off of the ground that wasn't taken until after the gunshot if you weren't there when the gun was shot.?
Considering how bad her story is, theres no wonder she got locked up for something she didn’t do.
