I lived in the middle of Haiti doing development work some years ago. Lived there for two years without electricity, indoor plumbing, or personal motorized transport. Spoke Haitian Kreyol. Developed deep relationships with folks in my community. I know Haiti and Haitians. Eating cats and dogs is *not* a thing. Haitians are respectful people. They value family, education, and work. There is a 'special' (an especially bad, that is) place for people who trade on ignorance and othering. *Edit to add: It makes no difference whether folks have lawful permanent residency or temporary protected status - both of those statuses are legal. I've spent a lot of time in Haiti as well, honestly met and made friends with some of the best people I've ever met over there. In general, I would say Haitians are better people in a lot of ways than are Americans.

I lived in the middle of Haiti doing development work some years ago. Lived there for two years without electricity, indoor plumbing, or personal motorized transport. Spoke Haitian Kreyol. Developed deep relationships with folks in my community. I know Haiti and Haitians. Eating cats and dogs is *not* a thing. Haitians are respectful people. They value family, education, and work. There is a 'special' (an especially bad, that is) place for people who trade on ignorance and othering.

I've spent a lot of time in Haiti as well, honestly met and made friends with some of the best people I've ever met over there.
In general, I would say Haitians are better people in a lot of ways than are Americans.

Harris Walz need to lean into the fact that immigrants are necessary for communities like Springfield and many in my state of Iowa, where we rely on laborers. If you like eating well, you should thank the immigrant community. We need to manage the border, not just close it.
