Hi Alex, at 20:16 you mentioned the valley pan, I just learened this called the "valley lifter oil manifold." I am starting this job on a 2015 Escalade ESV with 73K on the meter. I have just taken the valve cover off and found a broken spring #5 on the left bank. The spark plug end is a deformed. The lifter rod is not bent and the underside of the rocker does not show any dimpling, so hoping for the best, but won't know until I get the cylinder head off. The owner said the car started to hestitate while driving around 15 mph, so he pulled over and turned off the engine and then tried to restart, but it wouldn't turn over. Hi Alex, Carlos here from South Florida. Ran into your vids and man they are awesome! I have 2016 Escalade ESV, 86k. It started making that knocking noise about 3 weeks ago. Very similar to the noise on your 2015 diagnostic vid. Limited use since. I’m no Mecanic but can do simple work. Took it to a Mecanic and is recommending to change all lifters and rods. Is taking out the entire engine required to replace a lifter?
You know what’s crazy!… I took my escalade to my Mecanic here in Miami. He tells me… ‘let me show you a video of what it is…” on the way to his office, I ask him…. “ Is it some cool dude with dreads?… if it is, I saw that vid 4 times!!!”
First time work on this car. Due to 4th cylinder knocking we replaced the lifters, lifter valve, oil pump and the push rods and cleaned oil pipe. After starting engine again lifter 4 was knocking. We then replaced the lifter oil manifold and lifters but the same problem... What do you think could be the problem? ready to just replace entire engine...😢
I’m actually looking at a 2016 Escalade with 74k miles. What would you recommend me looking at as best as I can before purchasing? Or do you recommend staying away from them all together?
I have a 2019 in the shop with 70,000 miles that is skipping on cylinder number eight it may be in injector issue.Way too soon to be having issues in my opinion
@@AlexTheCarDoctor Aren’t the Ecoboost engines having a lot of issues with Cam Phaser Rattle? Which eventually causes misfires from timing issues? I also heard the water pumps go out fairly fast and it’s an expensive job also.
Hey, just got you on JT’s live stream and subscribed, was wondering about the scarring in the lifter cylinder on the block will that not cause low oil pressure?
Typically yes, it will cause that and other issues as well. But in this particular case be sent the block off to a machine shop and it worked out great for him. Oil pressure readings were great!
Hey man I have a 15 ESV that I purchased three years ago with 4,000 mile. Mint condition We just got back from Fla and we’re at 10,000 miles I’ve always noticed the transmission is jerky Do I need to get rid of this thing before it’s gets worse? I’ve read all the issues on 15 - 2020 years
Hi Alex.Question! I have 2018 Escalade ESV. Just today, rod bearing went bad. Mechanic recommending an engine replacement without opening the engine and said that by hearing the engine knocking noise. Do i really need an engine replacement or replacing the bearing would solve the issue? Need your opinion. Thanks
Hey there sorry to hear you’re having issues. I don’t believe what other mechanics say I will have to hear it for myself, is it possible you can Instagram me a video of it running. Throwing connecting rod bearings at it won’t solve the problem if the crank is scored up most times it is and you will have to send the crankshaft off to a machine shop to get it reworked and hope the mechanic can install everything back right, at that point I think it’s easier to put a engine in it that’s more guaranteed
Saludos Alex. Quería preguntarle. Algo Mi esposas tiene una 2015 Escalade la. Llevo al taller por un sonido raro en el escape y después de unos días los mecánicos dijeron que el motor ya no servía. Y para cambiar el. Motor. Mucho dinero. Y queremos buscar otra opción
I have a 16 escalade when driving from 1st to 2nd gear it has like a jump or push feeling to it. & viceversa. On the cluster it shows when it goes from v4 to v8 mode or v8 to v4. Do you think the afm might be the problem?
Hey there, is the check engine light on. From my understanding the truck does this every time and when this happens it’s going from 4 to 7 cylinder and vice versa
Bro please don’t be mad but I seen your thumbnail and your voice does not match the picture lol. Awesome content though, I’m dealing with 2015 escalade myself and this video was a big help
Question Alex.. I have a 2022 gmc sierra that was bought during the "chip shortage". i dont have the active fuel management system and my v8 does not shut off cylinders! even though i dont have the system, do i still have those type of lifters with the springs on them?
i just bought a 2018 escalade ESV. should i get the DFM disabler? i had a 2011 escalade engine went bad at 117k miles, cost me $8000.00 to replace the motor, started with a lifter issue that caused the bearing to damage the block
Disabled and it won’t fix the issue the proper way is to change the cam and go in with regular lifters then disable it so the computer won’t throw a check engine light, disabling it is just a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound
@@Brian.8272 that will be considered performance and I don’t get into that for customers but it would be the same price as seen on this video because it’s the same process, The price is between 4 to 5k parts and labor

Hey Alex, love the video. I am doing this repair at home myself. However, I left the engine in the car and I was able to take all the parts apart and get the phaser out. However, after installing the new cam and camp plate, I am stuck and I am not able to get the new phaser in. I broke one last night and I just picked up a brand new phaser for $225 and I don’t want to break another one. You said there was a GM tech that knew how to install this without dropping the oil pan or removing the oil pump. How do you do that?
Hey there I recently tried that trick and it worked great for me, but it is risky and not recommended. unfortunately, it’s one of those things better shown than told.I recommend lifting the engine and dropping the pan
Thank you for the reply. I was able to finally get it on by loosening the oil pump bolts, took 5 hours but got it all lined up with cylinder 1 TDC. Thank you!

I have a 2019 in the shop with 70,000 miles that is skipping on cylinder number eight it may be in injector issue.Way too soon to be having issues in my opinion
@@AlexTheCarDoctor I'd like to hear more about that 2019... as I have one - Thanks for your great content/information!
@@bellerive78660 I will keep you posted
@@AlexTheCarDoctor awesome
Do you have a video of actually getting the engine out?
No I don’t, sorry.
Hey man I have a 15 ESV that I purchased three years ago with 4,000 mile. Mint condition
We just got back from Fla and we’re at 10,000 miles
I’ve always noticed the transmission is jerky
Do I need to get rid of this thing before it’s gets worse?
@@AlexTheCarDoctor i just replied on Instagram sir. Thank you for the quick reply 🙏

Saludos Alex. Quería preguntarle. Algo Mi esposas tiene una 2015 Escalade la. Llevo al taller por un sonido raro en el escape y después de unos días los mecánicos dijeron que el motor ya no servía. Y para cambiar el. Motor. Mucho dinero. Y queremos buscar otra opción
Mi espanol es no bueno. But you can swap to a 5.3 engine that’s in the Yukons. They are way cheaper
@@AlexTheCarDoctor no check engine light, took it to the dealership but they always try to avoid the problem itself lol
@@carlosv6162 that’s crazy man I would love to take a look at this problem, where are you from

I’m about to replace a 2011 escalade engine did you every do a video on that procedure. Love watching your work..
What would a rebuild like this cost?
GM should recall all these and fix them for free
Bro please don’t be mad but I seen your thumbnail and your voice does not match the picture lol. Awesome content though, I’m dealing with 2015 escalade myself and this video was a big help

What is the real difference between the LS and the LT motors Doc???
The Main difference is The LS is port injected and the LT is direct injected
@@AlexTheCarDoctor is that the reason why they sound so different??? Thank you for replying BTW
@@paulsalmon4771 yes the high pressure fuel system is louder and change dynamic of the motor in terms of power and performance
Knowledge is power thank you. I love the LS but those LT's sound so with right exhaust
@@paulsalmon4771 I’m a die hard LS fan. I like simplicity you probably can make way more power with an LT but for reliability I love my LS
I just did my 2015 Yukon xl running fine
I wish you could do mine 2013 6.2 where are u located
Hey there buddy I’m located in Atlanta my shop address is 1850 Joy Lake Rd. 30260
so so, should I buy a Cadillac or any Any product with that engine in it?
I have a 2015 Dodge Durango an I had the same problem twice 😢
Question Alex.. I have a 2022 gmc sierra that was bought during the "chip shortage". i dont have the active fuel management system and my v8 does not shut off cylinders! even though i dont have the system, do i still have those type of lifters with the springs on them?
I do believe it’s just regular lifters in your vehicle
i just bought a 2018 escalade ESV. should i get the DFM disabler? i had a 2011 escalade engine went bad at 117k miles, cost me $8000.00 to replace the motor, started with a lifter issue that caused the bearing to damage the block
Disabled and it won’t fix the issue the proper way is to change the cam and go in with regular lifters then disable it so the computer won’t throw a check engine light, disabling it is just a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound
@@AlexTheCarDoctor what would it cost to do that
@@Brian.8272 that will be considered performance and I don’t get into that for customers but it would be the same price as seen on this video because it’s the same process, The price is between 4 to 5k parts and labor

Thank you!
Well you asked... it is called the lifter galley, sometimes lifter, push rod galley.

Hey Alex
I have 2018 Escalade with 159,000 miles i have a pulley noise in the engine. I live in Florida If i can get the vehicle to your shop would you be able to look at it.
Sure thing! Just reach out to the shop when you’re ready 👨🏽🔧
Ok cool. I need to find a car hauler to take it to your shop. If I leave my number, can you please call me? I would like to talk to you before I make the trip. I'm looking to get it there as soon as possible.
HEY BUDDY WHERE ARE WHICH STATE ARE YOU LOCATED ?
Atlanta Georgia
Are you related to cycle cruza? Serious question.
Might be helpful to screw the bolts back into where they came from so you dont lose any. That way you dont need to go searching since they are where theyre supposed to be....and you dont get them mixed up....
good video
Thanks buddy

I do have questions because I'm about to purchase a 2016 Cadillac Escalade with 98,000 miles on it. So from 2015-2020 this problem can occur? Is that with certain mileage or people running it rough or not taking care of it or can you explain some more this way I can make my decision if I'm going to buy it or not I want one so bad between 2015 and 2020 I didn't like the old body style and I don't like the brand new body style I like the 15 to 2020 and that's it please help me New Jersey calling
I’ve seen people take awesome care of they’re Cadillacs and still have the lifters go bad. I’ve seen them happen from 90-100k miles. It’s just a bad design.
