'Poetic justice': Coates reacts to Alex Jones courtroom bombshell

  • CNN's Laura Coate reacts to a moment in a Texas court where a lawyer for a pair of Sandy Hook parents cross-examined the Infowars founder and fact-checked his answers in real-time.
The jury hearing the case will determine how much Jones will have to pay the parents, Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, who won a default judgement against him earlier this year. An attorney representing Heslin and Lewis has asked the jury to award $150 million in damages.
Jones, who was the sole witness for the defense during the trial, did not fare well Wednesday as he was cross-examined by the plaintiffs' attorney, Mark Bankston.
In a remarkable moment, Bankston disclosed to Jones and the court that he had recently acquired evidence proving Jones had lied when he claimed during the discovery process that he had never texted about the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting.#alexjones #cnn #cnntonight

I won't argue your opinion that Jones is unintelligent. I agree.
To answer your question about his trashing the jury... Jones believes he is above the law because he has money. Jones is mentally & morally bankrupt, as are his "friends" like Trump, who will never pass up an opportunity for a profitable scam.
So what if dead children and grieving parents are affected by his scam? Jones obviously could care less, as long as it's an easy, money-making scam, he is eager to go with it.
Along with money comes the power to delay, delay, delay; while Jones hopes that he can slither out of having to face the consequences of his actions.
Jones, in his arrogance -not intelligence- thinks he can control the narrative in a court of law, as he does on his shows.

The J6 political persecutions claimed another scalp when Guy Reffitt was sentenced to more than seven years in prison, even though he did not engage in any violence, nor enter the U.S. Capitol. The outrageous punishment, the longest prison term yet handed down, appears to be government retribution for Reffitt's "hyperbolic statements" secretly recorded in his home by his teenage son. So, once again, the D.C. Despots have thrown down the gauntlet against constitutionally protected free speech.
Of all the Leviathan's fiendish and reprehensible acts these last ten years (the IRS and DOJ's targeting of conservatives, the Hillary-Obama-FBI Russia collusion hoax designed to take down a sitting president, the Pentagon's forced experimental "vaccination" of servicemembers against their religious and conscientious objections, etc.), its no-holds-barred onslaught of malicious prosecutions and vengeful incarcerations against January 6 political protesters takes the cake. The government's wildly inappropriate use of the FBI and courts to stamp out certain political speech and intimidate Americans into silence and compliance is such a blatantly un-American miscarriage of justice that it leaves me seething with anger. It can't happen here? It has happened here. And the federal government's vindictive and authoritarian response to January 6 only adds to the voluminously accumulating proof that Washington is filled to the brim with sadistic tyrants who would have felt right at home in Stalin's Soviet Union.
I feel for every one of the Americans who have been made to suffer so that D.C. can huff and puff and make a show of its iron-fisted powers, intended to leave the rest of the country in a state of docility and fear. From my point of view, all of these defendants, their families, and their friends deserve our thoughts and prayers. There was a time when I might have been willing to concede that some random "trespasser" swept up in the passions of the moment went too far on January 6. That time has long passed.
The harsher and more unmerciful the Gestapo has been in hunting down and persecuting patriotic Americans, the less willing I have become to care about what happened to Chuck Schumer's fax machine or Nancy Pelosi's morning liquor stash. The more irrefutable the evidence showing the presence of government agents in the protest crowds stirring up trouble, the more J6 has looked like a government-run setup job, not an organic mob riot. The more Congress's ignominious J6 Commission has preposterously insisted that the day's events were nothing less than an orchestrated conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States, the more the whole affair has been reduced to a Machiavellian charade willed into existence by a cynical and desperate bureaucracy committed to using it as a vehicle for imprisoning Donald Trump and squeezing the life out of a MAGA political movement threatening the D.C. Establishment's cushy existence.
The more undeniable the proof showing that Ashli Babbitt was executed in cold blood and Rosanne Boyland was kicked and beaten to death, the more the government's preferred narratives surrounding the "Capitol attack" have sounded like pure propaganda. Every time President-in-Name-Only Joe Biden and his known associates have lied to the country and falsely claimed that J6 protesters killed police officers that day, the more certain I have become that the government's heavy-handed response is irredeemably corrupt and illegitimate. Every time Antifa and Black Lives Matter arsonists and vandals have committed real violence against innocent civilians and walked away without so much as a slap on the wrist, the more furious I have become at D.C.'s two-tiered system of politicized "justice."

Some people have said that this was done intentionally to create a mistrial. I'm a retired attorney and haven't done a trial in decades, but I don't believe it creates a mistrial. (Although I don't know what the case law is in that state on the issue). Logically, it shouldn't be a mistrial though because if that was all it took to get a case thrown out of court that it would in his attorney's interest to do this so they could have a kind of win. Second, in discovery your lawyers MUST turn over all evidence that they have. If his attorneys had not turned over these emails and it came out afterward they withheld evidence, they would not only be disbarred but also face criminal prosecution.

A mistrial could only be declared by an attorney's error if it somehow prejudiced the jury against the client, comma or if it was some privileged information thay was revealed. But since all of that documentation was too have been turned over months ago, Jones cannot declare their mistake air mistake did him harm harm in his trial.. Because if the attorneys had acted ethically and within the law then those messages would have been revealed and entered into evidence anyway. No mistrial!

He didn't spend years saying "huh, something smells fishy, we need to look into it". He spent years flat out claiming that the entire incident was a hoax.
He's only acknowledged that it was a real event during this trial, which tells me that regardless of whether he believes that, he's only saying it to get sympathy and possibly a lesser sentence.
I will grant you, in principle a person should be able to atone for his mistakes/crimes, and be forgiven for them. But he brought the label of "Sandy Hook Guy" on himself by his statements over the course of a decade. He doesn't get to play the victim when forgiveness for something he spent a decade doing doesn't come immediately.
Consider an analogy. If a woman finds out that her husband has been cheating on her non-stop for a decade, and then he "comes clean" but only after being caught, I think most people would agree that the guy is unrealistic in expecting her to forgive him overnight.

This entire trial is nothing but a “staged” clown show distraction to fool people into thinking “conspiracy theorist” are such horrible people who spread misinformation. Which couldn’t be further from the actual truth. Real “conspiracy theorist” actually, Truthers are intelligent people who research things to get facts. They don’t just listen to the government and medias narratives, they use critical thinking and do their own research on topics.

I hope these members of the jury send a VERY LOUD AND CLEAR MASSAGE to the network heads and those people who choose act this way, all in the name of making a buck as thier lies destroy the families of those children and teachers that were murdered that day.. Jones's conduct is reprehensible and these families deserve to see his way of life destroyed just like he did to thier lives. This is more than about the amount of the judgement.. It's about accountability and real justice.. Something we don't see much anymore in this country.
This case will also be a pretty good indicator to see how fox and the other networks that promoted similar lies about the last election when they have to admit, THERE IS/WAS NO PROOF when thier day comes in court! It will be intresting to watch and hear thier lawyers as they try to explain away thier lies to a judge and jury in court! Hopefully they will force trump to testify in court over this as well.
