Since it's decimation and trauma I think the legal team for the parents are looking for compensation since jones can afford it and then some. They are essentially looking to make him actually broke. @@almapendergrass7810 I did research today because I too had questions. Turns out libel are lies that are written down vs slander which are lies that are verbally delivered. There’s no national crime for either but I believe it was 32 states do allow suing as a civil matter. Jones’ case meets all four criteria for being sued. And of course, the arrogant idiot didn’t show up for court and he never turned over documents requested, so he automatically lost. Now it’s just a matter of how much he’ll end up paying. Hopefully it’s on the high end of the scale ($150 million would be glorious).

No attorney would do that -- I think Jones' attorneys were under strict orders from their client. Under no circumstances should they request back the records - Jones' ignorant attempt to manufacture an appeal. I think this his way of spinning something out this lawsuit his way. There’s no way he’s not going to pay out the ass, but to his followers this is a way to save face and still be believable enough to sell his product and BS post trial.
By trying to implicate the judge, he is attempting to establish a bias against him. In this way, he could get this declared as a mistrial and get a different judge. The problem is that in a case such as this, this judge is likely being very careful to follow mthe letter of the law as well as her superiors are watching her closely. An appeal is not a guarantee, especially if the upper level courts review everything and see it was all done by the book and it was all legit.

They can award both compensatory and punitive damages - The compensatory is fixed but the judge can award any amount they see fit in punitive damages
