    My name is Brenda. I live in California. This my first time to start a garden. I’ve really have enjoyed learning something new. What I’m interested is why you and many other’s started gardening? The garden bug bit me because I hate buying store brought tomatoes. As I started planting different items and watching them grow I noticed that I started getting up earlier to start my day because I suffer from depression. I have a black cat that follows me around garden every morning just like your dog does with you. It’s nice to see that you can plant things and watch them grow and enjoy the harvest. Keep up the good work. I will keep watching as long as you Keep putting out new videos. I’m already hooked fan!!!

    New food forest area looks great. What I like is how you have a wilder foresty food forest (the oldest one), this is the design I like the most. But you also have the newer food forest set out to a more organized way, to help convert the organized gardeners over to permaculture. I've watched you since your channel had under 1k subs, so I love how you've grown. Spreading permaculture to the world. The more content producers we can get, the better. I'm a zone colder than you, so I always like checking in with you now and then to see how your garden is doing, because I'm a few weeks behind you.

  • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
    @CanadianPermacultureLegacy 3 года назад

    Honestly as a content producer myself I am impressed how you did this in one long continuous shot. That's pretty impressive! One thing, at 12:50 that people may be confused on... he said early frost but I think he meant late frost because he was talking about fruiting/flowering times. Also the point was a little muddied. What actually matters here is that if you are in a VERY SUNNY location, that any tree there will bloom SOONER than if it were in a shadier position. So if you combine an early bloomer with a sunny location, you can have a lifetime of problems with losing the entire harvest off that tree to it blooming very early then getting hit by a frost.. However, if you put that early bloomer in a shadier position, then it will just naturally bloom later in that spot, and may dodge the late frosts.
    Similarly, if you have a shady position, you can go with some earlier blooming varieties, because their actual blooming will get delayed a week or two and they should still dodge that late-frost.
    I hope that was all clear, and I think it was all straight in James' head, but I think it came out slightly differently.

    You have an amazing show, my friend. You get to the information fast and you say it so clearly understood. I would hope that you pick up some awesome backers to put you in a bigger yard 😉 so that you can really get after it. Why not work with your local municipality to start a community garden and make your program totally community involved? Proud of you. Take care.

    I secured some free straw mulch from my local Farm Supply, they let you go sweep up the ground near all the straw bales! Free black trash bag full of mulch that'll last into next year!

    James, I've watched off and on, last video I realized I really needed to subscribe. You are always so full of energy and valuable information! Tuck is awesome & you are an awesome Yorkie Dad. The extreme heat is too hard on him, you recognize that, you offer him clean water or let him stay inside -- kudos to you for how you care for him. I am planning an area for permaculture in my yard. I am going to wait until Fall to plant the fruit trees when they will have an easier adjustment.
    Your food forest is looking beautiful & fruitful.

    Another small-size mulch you can try is the rabbit bedding sold at places like WalMart; it's small pine shavings. The stuff may blow away, though so your mileage may vary.

    What do you do with so much food? Can you eat it all or do you give a lot away or preserve most of what you don’t eat? It’s spring when I’m watching this and I get more and more excited about getting started as I watch each of your videos. You can get anyone excited about gardening with your enthusiasm! Thank you so much! You saved my fruit trees last year when I pruned them properly after watching your videos on pruning. The year before I almost lost my peach tree due to the heavy weight of the peaches snapping branches. I had to do some serious cutting. After pruning last year and at the beginning of this spring my peach and apricot trees are doing amazing!
