After they came in and tore it all down, a block or so area remained empty lots for years. The last time I went down there (early 2000's), some guy on the street we were waiting for a Jitney with, was advising us on which streets to avoid. This was not the ACY I grew up with. Yeah, there were tough neighborhoods but nothing like this. They did a heckuvah lot more that dislocate people. They destroyed the town because they had no plan for its residents.
