My sketching technique is the skeleton and the scribble mix together. Honestly, I usually use go with the flow technique for getting ideas for my drawing, not so much with sketching itself because it is hard to control and get all the proportions right which I won't even bother using it if that was a finish artwork (however I use it to draw head shots tho XD) The skeleton help me get proportions right and the scribble is my favorite, it's look so messy but natural.

  • @ghost085

When I was a little kid I would always use number 3, go with the flow. It used to be very fun and I enjoyed a lot just drawing, but then I would end up with giant heads or disparate legs and arms LOL. Then I learned number 1 and my proportions improved a lot, but my drawings would be very stiff and two dimensional. Then I would sometimes try number 2 but my drawings would end up being a sketchy mess, with no way for me to make out a hand out of a mess of lines. Then I gave up out of an stupid sense of perfectionism. I should really go back to drawing, I used to enjoy it a lot.
    Thx for this video.

I remember my first technique for 3D characters used to be from this “how to draw comics the marvel way” book by Stan Lee (the creator of marvel), where you break things down into three basic shapes: the cylinder, the sphere and the cube (or box). It never really worked for me when drawing human poses, though. And then I found this video, which I found very helpful, and now I am happily improving using the “circles and lines” technique. Thank you so much Rin!

I generally scribble to get the pose, then use the skeleton technique to add the specifics of the clothing, outfit, equipment etc
I find that the "flow" technique is something that comes from just being very familiar with what you draw, to the point you barely need to rely on sketching it.
For instance, if you draw a LOT of guns/mechs, you eventually get such a feel for it you can draw it almost without thinking or carefully constructing a sketch.
I tend to view sketching as training wheel. If you draw something enough, there'll eventually come a day when you can draw it without needing to sketch it first.

They add color. That's usually the only reason artists use them; it's a change from basic, boring gray. Although, some colors will not show up when you scan them. So if you were to say, draw line art to color digitally, you could use one of those colors for the preliminary sketch, and then go over it with a pen, and you would only see the pen work on the computer.

The 2nd and 4th one were the cutest.
Also, I'm a "go with the flow" artist.

I use a mix of the skeletal and go with the flow techniques because I use the skeletal technique for the head and hands and then I use the go with the flow technique for everything else! 😃

I think I'm more into scribble and the 4th one 'cause I can't draw bodies without circle.

  • @spellinto
    @spellinto 5 лет назад

i use the scribble and skeleton techniques the most. the skeleton shapes help me draw bodies, and the scribble technique keeps things fluid. i personally like the extra lines and density from scribbling. i use “go with the flow” most when i want to draw mindlessly (mostly facial features), but those drawings are usually disproportionate and unfinished.

I personally use the " skeleton and chisel " technique. So basically you make the basic skeleton layout and chisel away until it looks half decent.

Thank You so much for this video. I learnt drawing sketches using shapes. It worked pretty well for me. But 2 months ago I met with an accident and now my right arm isn't working well. Doctors say it'd take 2 months more for it to work properly. I can't live without drawing but it was difficult drawing with my less dominant hand where your scribble sketch technique really came in handy. Thanks again.

i never use the skeleton technique because it makes me feel awkward trying to draw a character using guidelines. it makes me unsure how to draw

Btw, for the beginners I would recommend not to say terms like guidelines, I like to call my sketches a gesture lines or skeleton foundation. The sketch method used in this video is pretty useful except for the first one which often times used for amateur artists. The second method is actually used for building the gesture foundation while the third one is to refine your drawings better. Fourth one depending on how fast you work will often times be good for thumbnail sketches. But definitely, for starters I would recommend looking into life drawing course to get a better sense to have a proportion, composition, and any art foundation to be set before you move on to your real style of drawing.

    The way I sketch:
I draw a circle for the head, then I shape out the head and body without guidelines (Like the "go with the flow" technique), I add the face in last, and then I add tiny little details and fix up the anatomy a bit.
