- I won't be covering the fundamentals of drawing or how to draw specific things, but rather the way I sketch and the steps I take that create the results you'll usually see me post. I get a lot of questions about that so...here it is! If you're looking for "How-to draw this" or "How to draw that", this isn't the tutorial for you. This tutorial explains how I build up a sketch from beginning to end, adding tone, and getting a loose sketch.

One thing I love when waffles is sketching she says maybe she’s... maybe she wants... maybe there’s... it’s like she’s just going with the flow and building upon her ideas
I think that's one of her talents that she's didn't know. She can spontanously come up with ideas on camera and talking while drawing.

She honestly helped teach me to draw because she basically sculpts out an image on camera instead of just being perfect in one take. She shows more of the process than other youtubers.

Thats why i hate doing lineart!! Because then it takes away the flowiness of the sketch and it just looks dead :(

Xtotally_A _catX you could definitely get that good probably even better as long as you keep practicing and drawing and trying new things and new styles. Go out of your comfort zone sometimes.
Well comparing your art to those better than you can have a positive impact too, it helps you learn and realize where you fall down on and encourages improvement

Yes!!!! My heads are OK. My bodies are OK. Getting a head on a body...... Nope. The neck and the proportions of head to shoulders get me every time.

I used to have a lot of trouble with necks but I just looked up a lotta Pinterest tutorials and references, after a lot of practice I got better
I’d recommend minute figure drawings, you can start with more time and work down but it helped me draw bodies slightly better!

I already do all these steps myself, expect for one, the squared head, I’ve seen people use them other than circles, but circles prevented me from learning different head angles and such and I haven’t tried the square method, but there’s another alternative! The oval! The problem with the circle is sometimes it’s too small or big, the oval is perfect! I highly recommend and I learned this tip from another artist here on YT called Talart.
Tip on drawing generated characters/characters made from doll makers; draw the character 3-5 times so you can make the character properly in your style! To me if I only draw it 1 time it looks a bit stiff, but when i draw it that more 2-5 times it loosens it up&stuff

These videos are an inspiration to me! I don't draw characters, but just the reminder to start light is something I need every time I pick up my pencil.
I just have to say, this has been the most informative video I have found on my journey through youtube university as far as sketching/drawing goes. Practice is really helpful too, I used to be scared to do the anatomy thing, but, if you don't challenge yourself and your observational abilities, you don't really know what you can accomplish. This was a good video, I really enjoyed it.

I've lost count of how many times I've watched this video. Such a big inspiration! And I'm here again as I'm about to start a new sketchbook in which I want to focus on sketching more in just graphite for a while cause I feel like I draw a lot, but don't sketch enough? Not sure if that makes sense, haha! I focus too much on finishing every single piece, instead of sketching loosely, often, and for fun. That's what I want to change with my next sketchbook. I love watching you draw because it feels attainable because you talk step by step about what you’re doing. This video especially has been helpful because I know even more broken down the elements. Drawing seems a lot less scary now!

I was already using sketchy lines, but in my last drawing I applied the "darken lines that need to stand out" and "shade in gradients" techniques you showed here and noticed a big difference! I usually don't shade because it never looks good when I try it with pencil, but darkening certain lines already helps it look more "finished."
