    1:29 instant vs delayed gratification
    • no matter how you feel, you always have the ability to do the right thing
    • millions dont feel like going to the gym, but nobody who goes there ever regrets it.
    • be accountable to your futereself, he is either looking at you in contemt or gratitude. bcoz one day, youll wake up and youll become him.
    • save your futureself the unnecessary hassle by giving him even more problems to solve
    • dont give what you want the most for what you want right now
    • the pleasure of bad habit inevitably dissiaptes after a few seconds, but the rest will linger, or not if youre mindful idk.
    • ultimately, all youre left by the end of the day, is the consequences of your actions, not the actions, not the pleasures, not the regrets, all of the emotional components will pass away.

For about 3 years I completely wasted my life. I was homeschooled and depressed, so I would finish school and spend the next 10 hours or so mindlessly stimulating myself by playing video games and watching youtube at the same time. One day I had this epiphany where I finally realized how horrible my life was, and how bad I was setting myself up for the future. After that day I completely changed my life by being intentional in how I spent my time and removing all extra stimulation. I became extremely depressed and I was constantly sick to my stomach because of how much I hated myself and how much I regretted my life. I was going to kms. But after about 3 months of extreme depression, I began to feel different, better. It's been a few months since then, I still feel depressed sometimes but I can push through it because I'm now living a life that means something to me. I wish I could have seen your channel when I needed it the most. But I'm so glad other can see this when they need it. Love your videos!

    What i learned
Dont give up what you want most for what you want right now. Dont do it because you feel like it. Think of your future self. Sacrifice your life now or your instant gratification now for you future self by delaying gratification. The pleasure from you bad habit will go away 10 seconds after doing it. The pleasure of your good habit will last so much like longer than the initial discomfort. prioritize your future self

imo the most appealing thing about instant gratification is that it's guaranteed I'll be able to enjoy it. delaying it means there's a chance something might happen and prevent me from reaping the rewards of my efforts (like dying, which is an extreme example, but it's entirely possible lol). it's a constant struggle to convince myself to trust that if nothing bad happens I'll enjoy my rewards so much more... people generally prefer something that is concrete rather than a mere possibility

Love how you incorporated dopamine into your research. In many mental illnesses (including ADHD, depression, and schizophrenia) dopamine dysregulation is a huge aspect, and dopamine production is often what medications directly impact. Using delayed gratification to regulate the highs and lows of dopamine synthesis - to feel more resilient against the lows and benefit more from the highs - is a great way to self-regulate and keep control over your emotional autonomy while on psychiatric medication.

i know some ppl are going to take it to the extremities so i’m js gna leave it in the comment section: sacrifice yourself only to the point where you can still be happy in the present
i know he mentions this but i js wanted to say it one more time. if you sacrifice yourself so much that you’re constantly feeling like life is draining out of you, you need to stop and take a breather
the advice he gives is correct and very motivating, but it won’t be helpful if you’re not in a good mindset. trust and accept yourself first, then start investing in your future self. but before that, calculate your priorities such as survival. literally. take your mental health in mind.

bro the first video I've ever saw from your channel was "how disappearing for a year actually looks like" several months ago and everything you said in it was true
then i found out that you're younger than me in your other videos which i ended up binge watching later that night
I've always thought that i was smart but seeing your content made me rethink my beliefs
how come a 17 year old do better than me and have what i wanted
I'm not trying to belittle you because obviously you're better than me right now in this field
but that's how i genuinely felt that time
now I started my RUclips channel and I'm taking your style as an inspiration to become a better RUclipsr
thank you for posting good stuff that leads people to feel like i felt..

This is as well spoken and succinct as it gets, in the face of self-refinement to meet one's higher self.

To answer the question: nothing. Would sacrifice no comfort for my future self. I don’t even know how if that future self would even ever exist.
I will be 58 next month.
