- From my library: A quick look at the differences and similarities between these sets of books.
NOTE: I was moving, and the house had nothing in it, so it's a bit echo-y in there. Sorry!
Thank you for making this video. I have been trying to decide wheather or not to buy these collections. I really like the little black classics.
They're really nice to have. It's fun to just grab one on a whim.
wheather -> whether
The point of these books was to introduce readers to classic works in cheap editions that could be read in one sitting.
You must be talking about the Little Black Classics. The Modern Series is a little different, as I mention in the video.
Thank you so much for this video, incredibly helpful! “Eau de nil” (Nile water) is the name of the color of the Modern classics. Found it confirmed in one of the clothbound penguin publications “Penguin Modern Classics Book”. Since discovering the name, I’ve become obsessed with it.
Glad you found the video helpful. I love the name of the color!
Thanks a lot for this great and illustrative video. New subscriber and greetings from Mexico 🖖
I want both of them more than anything now😂
It’s weird because they only sell them in Amazon… right?
I'm not sure what country you're in, but I know that other booksellers sell these sets.
If you haven’t got them yet, I’ve
Also found them on target’s website😊
This was very informative, thank you
I'm glad you think so!
Great video and explanation!! I have the box set of the Little Black Classics (and a handful of the additional volumes) but now I want the Penguin Modern set! 🤣
Thanks! I love them!
Thank you, this video offered a lot of clarity.
You're welcome!
Being no fan of ,as of an example, ,Reader’s Digest’ , you saved meself some research. Indeed informative, thanks!
Quite informative. Thank u
Well I have a doubt regarding these little black classics, since u mentioned that these are a part of longer works, will I be able to understand the story/essay if I haven't read the original full book ?
Yes, I think so. It might be an essay, or a short story from a collection of short stories. From a nonfiction work, it could just be a section that stands well on its own.
Thank you my friend
Just came from your modern series review😂 I might get both now🚶
Haha, They're both great.
Same with me , I m confused but I guess I need both now😂
not sure i understand the point of buying just a small part of a book, like in this black collection.
I guess just because it's a super-cheap and portable way to get a taste of the longer work. But I certainly see your point.
I think I mentioned in the video that if I wanted to read The Wife of Bath (as an example), I'd rather take out this little book than the larger work of the complete Canterbury Tales.
I have a diff perspective. As english is not my first language, I have hard time deciding what should I pick up next. As in which author suits my level of english best. And not just difficulty wise but content, flow, perspective etc. These series are like short trailers and I can get taste of what that author feels like. So extremely helpful for someone like me…
I got some of these in 2015... on the back it said 80p (rather than £2)... inflation for you, over doubled in price
Yup, originally it was 80 books, for 80p each, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Penguin Classics! Hopefully they won't go up too much in the near future. 🙂
Like a pale sage/mint color
thankyou thankyou so much ❤
Glad you liked it!
OMG I want. But not available where I am.
I can relate. There are some things I've had troulbe getting where I am, and I've asked visiting relatives to bring them.
seeing your channel, i’m appalled. do u live in a library
Aw, I hope not too appalled! 📚
So these books do not have the whole story in them?
Kind depends on what you mean. Some of them are short stories or poems, so of course it's the whole thing. Others are just selections of longer works.
Yes United blood always great🎉
To not have Dostoevsky into these boxes is true CRIME
Volume #44 of the Little Black Classics is Dostoyevsky, so I don't think there was a crime after all.
@@librarybooks my bad, sorry.
