  • Frog Fishing Is Awesome! These Tricks Make It Even Better! Its topwater time and today we're showing you some of our favorite frog modifications to catch more fish with a frog. From rattles, to body styles, to weights and more... these are the tricks you can use to make your frog stand out and get more bites!
Heavy cover frog fishing will blow your mind! The first time a bass explodes through cover to get your frog, you're hooked for life. Traditionally, frogs didn't have a great hookup ratio but we've learned how to change that through years of trial and error. Today we're showing you all the simple tricks you can use to get more bites and catch more fish.
Below you'll find links to our favorite frogs by style, as well as the components we use to modify them, and the rods we fish them with. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Just wanted to say thank you for the education and my guide to becoming completely infatuated with catching big bass.

There's a brand called Runcl for those who want thinner diameter, 8 strand braid, and are are on a budget. The 60 lb 8 strand is .32mm versus the PowerPro 50 lb at .36mm. More strength and line capacity for about half the price.

Another tip as braid looses it's coloring, a big black marker, slit the chiseled point and drag the line through color black (camo tip), and the inking adds some body to the braid as it get's limper as it ages. Replace the braid when it gets over a year old, it will fail as it gets aged by sun, use, and being worked through junk. Loose BB's or SST bearing balls adds another dynamic of sound and allows you to easily overweight a frog for fishing in mat, where you want it to have more weight. If yo do it with BB's you'll get the added sound. Another trick can't believe I'm sharing this. Fill it with water throw it around wood, and rocks. Count it down and walk it unseen 10' down. They've never seen or heard anything like this in their kitchen. Big frogs will come unglued, especially in mid summer.

You have to pay attention to the hooks. After hooking waterlilies, woody structures and fish they lose their point which is crucial. to getting the hook into their mouth past the barb. My landing ration goes up after careful attention to the hook sharpness and especially the point and replacing hooks on frequently used baits.

What are you thoughts on that power finesse St. Croix rod? Would love a review. I tried it as a frog rod for smaller frogs, but lost a lot on it in the slop, which I attributed to it being pretty soft. I switched to the 7’4 HF, it was probably just fisherman error.

I very possibly may just be doing it wrong, but I NEVER get bit on frogs and the few and far between blow-ups that happen, the fish MISSES the lure... what could I be doing incorrectly? I know the frogs and rod combo are good, so it HAS to be me. Any thoughts, because I would LOVE to be able to enjoy frog fishing, but I usually use a punch rig since I do get bit on those.

I have a legitimate question for anyone with the knowledge, please. For topwater frogs, do you need a Heavy/X-Heavy rod because of:
    a.) the hookset needed, or
b.) because of the slime and gunk that usually accompanies the technique is something to compensate for.
I have an Expride *MH F* rod that I want to use for frogging, but I don't fish near any aquatic plants or lily pads. Can I get away with frogging with this rod, or could it cause harm to my rod?
Please anyone, feel free to comment, even if it has been a while.
