    Great suggestion
    I have often thought about this, as the test button is really just to test your battery.
    That looks like a good safe way to do it.
    And the clip board idea
    Thanks

      Thanks. I did this one for those residential units that I will be testing for the next few months. This is my RAT for smoke alarms. hehehehe. So, I don't need to check their units and avoid contacts.

    I used a book of paper matches and got a good test, though I had to wait a while.

    OK I guess that’s a way to test it I guess what I wanted to know is the actual outside of the smoke alarm is wired into the ceiling and then you put a battery in it it has a light and then it lights up green but it’s like halfway lit green so I’m wondering how to test to see if that’s enough quality battery or does the alarm go off because it’s wired in the ceiling and why does it have a battery if it’s wired into the house etc. it keeps going off we put a different battery in it and so there’s obviously reasons I am looking at RUclips videos

      The green LED indicates that it's hardwire or running on house main power. The battery (9 volts) is only for back-up purposes if there's no normal power available. If it kept on going off "beeping or chipping" even though the battery was changed the following reasons why: 1) the smoke alarm kept on looking for the battery due to incorrect connection ( + )or (--), the smoke alarm is on pre-alarm still (newer version of smoke alarm) and no normal power in the smoke alarm. If it's real alarm activation mode, the smoke alarm need replacement. The inner detection sensor is contaminated already. Best is to get the model of the smoke alarm and replace the smoke alarm without replacing the base.

    Hello, I love the videos! Australian and New Zealand systems are very similar but shouldn’t you just use crc smoke test instead of live fire?

      That's what I do. But this video is for residents who are not available during my testing date. It's the practical way for them as they don't have anything available in their shelves. Once they watch this video, they will sign a form and send it to me. It's a self-test form. Very convenient for not accessing residential units due to Covid, Illness or they are away. Excellent, also u can use air freshener spry to do the test..!

      Yes, you can, but air freshener may affect the optical sensor and will result to a more sensitive smoke alarm. Thnxs mate.

    Do you need a licence to check smoke alarm? Do I have to hire electrician to check smoke alarms by law?

    • @fireprotectionguy7943
      @fireprotectionguy7943  2 года назад

      You don't need a license to check or test smoke alarms. But to certify, it's a different story. Under NSW tenancy law of 2021, all smoke alarms in a rentable properties must be inspected, tested, replaced batteries and certified yearly. Testing is done by the worker and the certifying side is done by those who are accredited fire safety practitioner. An electrician can replace the smoke alarm but he is not allowed to certify that the smoke alarm is compliant of fire regulations.
