I don’t see a green light or any lot on mine but I pushed it and it beeped

Is there a way for me to test my smoke alarm without getting startled or hurting my ears as they are sensitive? Can I request the fire department to let me know as to when they are going to test them? When testing my smoke detectors should I wear ear plugs so my ears aren't hurting or that I don't get startled? I will still be able to hear the noise, but it won't be as bad with the earplugs.

Yes wearing earplugs is a great idea! The fire department would come to your house and test each one and possibly replace bad ones free of charge. They did mine for free. Maybe a community program. I'd call and ask

Smoke alarms only last for 10 years you should have told us to check the date on the back

I've noticed that some smoke detectors like mine are hard wired into the house, so if one of the alarms goes off, they all go off in the house.

This info is now outdated/wrong. Buy a can of smoke and test it with smoke to actually see if the smoke alarm can actually detect smoke and that the sensors are working and not blocked or failed. This only tests the battery which is not the only component that can fail. And when anybody serious tests an alarm such as an inspector they will use a can of smoke.
