    This is exactly what I do in the fall for seabass and cod. I use hogy heavy minnow or sandeel jigs, and I replace the stock hook with assis hooks. Give those a try.

    Wow a 16.5" size limit os crazy. But i remember back in the 90s i thought it was crazy when the flounder size limit went above 15"

      It's high, but I run about a 50:50 keeper short ratio here, so it's OK. Besides, very little meat on a 15-incher.

    Hi john, i have an opportunity to buy a downeast style bought that is a 10 knot boat. I thinking of putting the boat out in mattituck creek or sterling harbor. If you had a 15 mile radius area to fish which port would you choose? thanks for your advice.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  Год назад

      100% Sterling. You'll have the good bay fishing in the spring, the Gut, and there's quality fluke on the North Side of Montauk 22 miles from Greenport. Also great blackfishing around Fishers Island. It's not even a contest.

      I see two runs in the eastern Sound. One is now as they go into the Sound and head way up west of Pt Jeff. This is inconsistent for me. When the water cools and October and all of those albies up west drain out of the Sound in October, that's when I do best.

    This video is excellent - the jigging motion was really clear and I could tell from the action in your line when your jig hit bottom. What range of current speeds are productive at this depth? If that location wasn't producing, would you target a different depth along the reef or move to structure in a different area? Thanks in advance!

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  Год назад

      I seem to do best when the current is 1-3mph. I would have moved to different pieces of structure at different depths if it didn't produce.
