Most enjoyable video. Keep up the great work.
This is exactly what I do in the fall for seabass and cod. I use hogy heavy minnow or sandeel jigs, and I replace the stock hook with assis hooks. Give those a try.
I like a small crippled herring for this. Have you ever used them?
For this depth and current, I find those bucktails stay down best. I know guys who like the metal too.
What kind of boat is he using?
1986 Grumman 5.0 meter boat
Jellyfish are lion's mane
Looks like a small Lions Mane Jelly.
Wow a 16.5" size limit os crazy. But i remember back in the 90s i thought it was crazy when the flounder size limit went above 15"
It's high, but I run about a 50:50 keeper short ratio here, so it's OK. Besides, very little meat on a 15-incher.
Hi john, i have an opportunity to buy a downeast style bought that is a 10 knot boat. I thinking of putting the boat out in mattituck creek or sterling harbor. If you had a 15 mile radius area to fish which port would you choose? thanks for your advice.
100% Sterling. You'll have the good bay fishing in the spring, the Gut, and there's quality fluke on the North Side of Montauk 22 miles from Greenport. Also great blackfishing around Fishers Island. It's not even a contest.
thank you for the reply@@JohnSkinnerFishing
LOL "I want my jig back"... don't you make them on the weekends? Give a few up for the fish!
u did well....thanks for sharing
Jon you don’t like blue fish? They are so good. Love the video.
I don't like them biting off my jigs.
@JohnSkinnerFishing excellent reply lol 😂
The Black Sea bass is an extraordinary looking fish !!!
Try a 40-80g nomad streaker jig for sea bass, you’ll catch more than you ever have. Pretty work skinner!
You remind me of Matt Ahern from back in the day when he wrote in The Fisherman. Love your videos and style.
Ahhhhh the sea bass behind old Seps. Nice work 😉
Big ones !!
Wow gator blue, havent seen one like that in a long time
You got the pool on that sea bass
Of Course you will have company. You are a legend !!! Lol. Snap snap , settle , snap.
Hi Doug!
Location, location, location! If you're not in a good spot, you miss all the fun - I know that all too well :-) Good catches!
I’m amazed that the sea bass don’t get spooked by the 50 pound leader !
Really? I think Sea Bass are not so fussy. I usually use 30 for this, but used 50 for bluefish protection.
So interesting you mentioned the drift length, my fishing buddy subscribed to the same theory, an I used to call him capt. short drift.
Pound the spot.
simply the best east coast fisherman 😎
Morning John , I received a reply last night on my email account from the comment I made. About being a winner of the giveaway " context " That was how it's spelled . Along with a phone # I wont post in case it is you . Instructions were to send text . Don't remember last nights video mentioning any give aways ? Personally don't watch for any contests , I just try to soak up all that knowledge that's in you're videos from beginning to end . If you have time can you advise . Thanks Rich
Those jelly fish look like baby man of wars look like them when I was growing up in raritan bay and it looks like they just have not turned the deep red purpl😅e color
excellent fishing outing! Some big Blues out there this year
@fishing10151 everyone wins!
Mr. Skinner you made me buy the 34th will get on its maiden voyage. Expect you to come out with me I’ll bring it to Long Island or whatever let me know I won’t be ready till December so it’ll be early spring fishing I guess.
Nice trip John they were some beautiful seabass 🐟👊
@fishing10151your a scammet
Enjoy your vids. I live in NE Fl, and I'm gonna try your style of jigging down here. Unfortunately, we have a red snapper problem, and shark problem down here. I hope I don't lose too many jigs.👍
I tried this technique and tackle in Captiva Pass and caught short groupers on it every drift.
Hey John, do you think the Albies will be early this year? I've typically found late October to be productive, but I know that can vary.
Sept. Is Albie time. True October they are thick, but the next two weeks should be good
Thanks!@@secretjourney4815
I see two runs in the eastern Sound. One is now as they go into the Sound and head way up west of Pt Jeff. This is inconsistent for me. When the water cools and October and all of those albies up west drain out of the Sound in October, that's when I do best.
Appreciate that insight, John...thank you!@@JohnSkinnerFishing
Jellyfish
Do you work the diamond jig the same way as the bucktail? I’ve caught them slow retrieving diamond jigs. They come up to grab them.
Similar to bucktail.
Hey John, love your channel. What kind of bottom were you fishing here. Wreck? Rock? Thank you Dave
Rocks.
Nice sea bass fishing @johnskinnerfishing I like the way you handle those blue fish too🙌
I'm kind of jealous of you. I'm in western suffolk, go out and catch 30, 40, even 50 fish to keep 1 or 2. Smh. Too.maby people over here.
Fishing pressure definitely culls them out.
Any drone footage comming up?
Underwater footage yes, if the water ever clears.
No keeper sea bass on the south shore !! Terrible over here on the reefs!! Glad to see your getting some nice ones on east end skinner
Your reefs are culled out quickly. Maybe some better ones will move in on cooler weather.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yeah understandable thanks man. Wish I can get out there and fish with you one day and catch some real fish hahah sick of not getting anything out here where I live on the south shore !
John did you put anything on the Bucktail?
Nothing.
Prettier or tastier
What did I win Mr. Skinner. I'll be out at the fishing show Tuesday. Will I need a trailer lol
This video is excellent - the jigging motion was really clear and I could tell from the action in your line when your jig hit bottom. What range of current speeds are productive at this depth? If that location wasn't producing, would you target a different depth along the reef or move to structure in a different area? Thanks in advance!
I seem to do best when the current is 1-3mph. I would have moved to different pieces of structure at different depths if it didn't produce.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you!
How heavy braid were you using and did I hear correctly that you were using a #50 leader ?
10# braid, 50 leader for bluefish protection.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing was that on both the ML & M set ups ?
Yes. It works because the 1.5 ounce payload is in the upper end of the ML and the lower end of the M.
Hey John are is your inshore rod’s going to be in different colors or just red ?
Red for now.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing well I’m buying it as a thank you to you for teaching me more about a hobby I love
Best of luck with it!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing in all seriousness i have to buy all your rods lol everyone swears by them
Your gonna eat good Mr. Skinner!!! Great video I have learned a lot from watching your videos over the years and totally know it has helped my success.. THANK YOU..
