That kid caught more keepers than I caught all last year. “Happy Birthday kid!”….indeed! Great job John. Sounded a little winded there for a minute, lol.
John, is it safe to say most of these guys were newbies? This is one of your best videos! Bringing new anglers into the sport of flounder fishing and teaching them all of the eccentricities that make for great success! Bravo Skinner!! Bravo!
This year was an excellent year for fluke for me. I took 2 trips on one of the party boats off Captree, and i killed it. Both times i was high hook on the boat, with last trip having caught 6 keepers!! 25 inches was the biggest. Rest of the people were using conventional fluke rigs, and I was doing rapid technique just like in this video! Thank you for the wisdom you share with us, going out again this week, this time blackfishing. Already got my jigs and a set up. one of your videos with the underwater footage of a blackfish was the one that clicked and make a lot of sense now. Even if i end up using sinker rig, that video still helped me a lot to understand when to set the hook! Thank you again!
Awesome day. Started using your teknique two years ago and although I've caught fish I was never sure if I was doing it properly. After watching this video and seeing it being done from a different camera angle, other than your POV, it is more clear how it should be done. Jerome did a great job. Thanks for making this Tutorial video John. Now I most likely will have to wait till next year to give it a go. lol. Saving this video so I can find it again easily next year.
Just an awesome day out there! These videos have me wanting to try drift fishing for summer flounder on the kayak down here in Charleston! Keep it up and great video as always John.
Back in the late 90s to 2010 or so the fluking was great along the RI beaches. There were probably fluke all the way into the surf line. The major exodus that ensued the next ten years in which the fluke were really only plentiful on the hard bottom ( old school codfish rocks). But this beach fishing as good as this I have experienced many times without gulp just simple squid and spearing and at times the ribbons for belly baits. Should be able to do this all the time.
Omg John, beginners luck combined with old salt savey, I guess that a winning combination for sure. Those double are sick. I thing they got their money's worth for sure. Still patiently waiting for the new boat unvail....tight lines....walt
John do you have a program you can download that shows you where to fish saltwater maybe something that marks a place on the map big fan of yours thanks in advance for any help Big Jim
The drift of dreams. Also kind of depressing how bad our season has been in NJ vs what you have on eastern LI. The constant South wind is a killer for our fluking, wonder if it pushed the fish North and East?
Wow, awesome fishing on this video for sure ! Hey John, I often top my bucktail or hook with squid, or flounder belly, or spot. If I saw correctly, you didnt top any of your hooks with anything. What would you suggest for targeting flounder. Top hook with something, or nothing at all.......
Thanks John for another fun educational video, man would I love to spend a day out with you, I mostly fish the Great South Bay , Fire Island Inlet & can never hold bottom, I use all your gear . Dark Matter Rod Quantum Accuris real 15 pound braided line & read all your books & Salt Strong Classes, 🤷🏻♂️
I fish that area also, the state channel leading to the inlet and the inlet have incredibly fast and strong currents and goes from shallow to deep in many areas, u may need to just go heavier on your buck tail weights, I’d say more like 8-12oz rather than the 3-6oz that he ussually uses in the ocean, in the back bay you should b able to use about an ounce and a half tops, I know I’m not skinner but hope this helps, tight lines
@@usobninja14 thanks for responding, yes very helpful , but man using a 8- 12 ounce Bucktail is difficult, ( I have gone to 6 - 8 ounce ) and pricy when you get snagged 😂, thanks again , but when I need to do that , I just put on a sinker and use 1 hook with gulp , thanks again, very nice of you to respond 👍
Just to be clear, you are using a 3oz or 4oz bucktail, with 3/8 oz weight on the teaser? I ask because the rig list says the bucktail is 2oz. I couldnt see clearly how big the bucktail jigheads are. Thanks for clarification.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks. That's a big bucktail. How deep was the water, and was the current very strong when you were catching? I find it tricky throwing a big jighead while avoiding snags where I am.

That 1st keeper did a pretty good buddy rich impression on the deck. Nice job out there john. You put em on some sweet fish
I laughed at your reaction to the young guy catching his second double, and then his third double!! kinda speechless.
I've never seen so many double headers of Fluke caught on the same trip... Great trip..
Exceptional day of fishing. Now I know what I want for my birthday :)
Excellent Mr. Skinner, Jerome will remember this day for the rest of this life!!!
Niice Fluke near beach ocean side.. nice to see everyone had fun.🤙🏾😎

That's incredible fluking... Could you imagine if fishing was always like this.
Hey John if you dont mind are u more west or east down long island?
First time I think I have seen doubles while you are fishing.
The reason for so many double headers is the 4 oz bucktail when it's not needed, I'm sure those two anglers didn't really feel the first hits.
Good theory.
you guys pounded them!
Nice place

John, how do you decide on a teaser/Gulp vs just Gulp on the top hook?
Almost always teaser. I decided to leave one rod plain since I rigged three for us.
