    I never did much surf fishing other than dead sticking some bait while I sat on the beach. I wanted to get a little more engaged with surf fishing, so I followed this video, made the rig, and caught a fluke within my first 30 minutes of surf fishing at Island Beach State Park. I am a subscriber, and I am enjoy these videos.

    My pop just passed on 1/12/23, and today's his birthday. He was from Queens but lived in LI, and always loved fishing hc. He had given me a treasure trove of gear/rigs that I had in my crawl space forever. I came back from Sandy Hook and said fuck it, I gotta get all the gear out and start figuring out surf fishing cuz I'm always chilling at SB or SH just loving on the water, and I always put off fishing bc I figured those surf pole are too big for my little car, then I fucking find out they come apart. I just fell apart, now I am watching your video, and it's really helping break things down simply so I can get crackin. When the waves aint good I will be fishing, when they are good I'll be surfing, when neither are good I will be skating at the skatepark.
    Don't take the "Shore" for granted man, its our version of Costa Rica Pura Vida. I gotta learn the knots brother, thats the only thing holding me back man.

    Great video, this rig definitely works for fluke. In my variation of the high-low rig, I use two small dropper loops on the leader and perfection loops to connect to the lead at the bottom and swivel at top. Then take two 10” section of mono and tie two perfection loops on both ends, resulting in two 6” pieces with a loop on each side. One side loops onto the hook, the other side loops onto the dropper. The entire rig can be quickly taken apart and can be used over and over. Tight lines

    Nice vid and description. Like the idea of a bit heavier rig to get out to the other side of bar or troughs which run wider. Spend all summer surf fishing NC beaches for flounder and have been using double rig which has been very effective...but I see this method being one I will implement next Summer, especially down at oregon inlet which typically has a lot of grass in it. Thx!

    Great rig with the bank sinker on bottom. I tied a couple of these, except I couldn’t get the twists right using fluoro so I just made do without. We had an absolute ball tonight catching shorts and cocktail blues using this rig at IBSP. Much better than the double jig and teaser especially in grassy water. Just shake and the grass comes off.

    I recently saw a video from salt strong on RUclips and he explain The Strike Zone of a flounder or fluke. It’s exactly as you described the only difference is that he didn’t use the exact rig but he did mention to jig the lure at the strike zone let it drop real in the slack and do it again. I have personally used your rig setup I learned about it from another RUclips channel as well as seeing yours I tried it out, it absolutely works 100%. I went fluke fishing at night under a bridge I got numerous hits because the fluke were there and I caught two keepers I lost three. I was using a number four Offset hook with a paddle tail soft bait.

      I actually saw someone use a variation of this rig under the LBI bridge YEARS ago. Wasnt the same exact thing, but it was close. This rig isnt really breaking any new ground....its just great for beginners, and even as long as ive been fluke fishing I still use it. Takes out a lof of user error.

  • @vincentlafranchi25

    This was pretty good. Fluke will chase that high bait though. If you look at some of the underwater fluke videos, those bastards are no shy. They'll come right up and take the top bait on a high low rig. That twist to dropper loop was cool, never saw that before. Spent an hour trying to nail it yesterday, NO DICE lol.

My personal best is 26 " and was caught on a fishing charter out of Cape May NJ. I really like your rig and how you added the skirts. I really look forward to seeing your fishing videos and catching some real monsters..

    • @huixiong6247
      @huixiong6247 4 месяца назад

      Did you try the new rig and how did it go? I started following John Skinner's videos recently and used the bucktail + Berkley live shrimp combo, but I lost 3 rigs in a week because a lot of beaches here are full or small rocks ~10 yards out. Saw this video and I'm wondering if having a weight instead of bucktail at the bottom of the rig would make my rigs survive longer. But on the other hand, 2oz for a 7'' medium-light rod with 15/20lb main line sounds a bit dangerous though. I'm gonna try 1oz to start with, would appreciate any advice before I go this weekend😄

    Instead of the twisted dropper loop, couldn't I just use a 3 way swivel with the suggested lengths of line? Just asking because there is no way I will be able to make that twisted dropper. Great video though. Thanks!

    • @FromtheSurfNJ
      @FromtheSurfNJ  2 года назад +1

      The whole point to the twist is IF you use 30lb floro....it will stick the gulp straight out at a 90 degree angle away from the main line. This lowers the chance of the fish hitting the main line and accidentally something goes wrong. Will a 3 way swivel work? Sure. Will it keep the bait away from the main line? No. And then theres the fact that this entire rig (other than the sinker and the swivel) is all Floro....so its invisible. A three way swivel just adds more terminal tackle to the rig. But its a great point, great question, thank you for asking!
