ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING!!! this was part of a coming-of-age moment for me. (1976, boy) my parents didn't believe in an allowance so the only way i could honestly get into a theater was with them, and it usually meant the drive in where bored me could rubberneck from the back seat and see purple rain and terminator and full metal jacket while listening to something like "here come the littles" or whatever other baby movie they had bought tickets to. when adventures came out on home video i was of course too young for a blockbuster card (and still no allowance), so i had to beg and plead for 3 months to get them to rent this one, because i was bored with things like brighty of the grand canyon. every week when we went to blockbuster, i'd pick adventures, and they'd veto it because it was rated pg-13 i wasn't 13. i don't remember why i was so stuck on wanting to see it, but i remember the argument that finally won them over. "pg-13 means parental guidance where anything in the movie that a parent objects to the parent can guide the kid about why they object. teaching moments, because i'm growing up in spite of your efforts to keep me forever five." so that scene where the horndogs thought chris was the model in THAT magazine, they of course had to pause tape and explain what THAT magazine was and the moral implications of... well... you know. anyway, i reminded them why we boycotted 7-11 a couple years prior and said i wasn't interested in paper anyway because... same scene different guy "you're not her. you're too pretty." (or something like that. it's been 84 years. ok closer to 35 but i couldn't resist using the line) ...because i can't be THAT guy with paper. next week i was FINALLY allowed to start picking age-appropriate movies.
A very rare horror movie with kids as the main characters that is a hidden cult classic, is The Gate. The movie is dark, yet with an eerie suburban energy only dark 80s horror can create. A young boy is left alone with his older sister and best friend for a weekend, when a tree in his backyard is struck by lightning, revealing a strange hole in the earth that refuses to heal... awesome movie. Do go in blind, like many 80s trailers it gives away way too much.

Less Than Zero, One Crazy Summer, Cloak and Dagger, The Manhattan Project, Dune, The Last Starfighter, Three Amigos, CLUE, Overboard, Dragonslayer, KRULL, They Live... I could go on for a while.
You should add Body Heat from 1981 with William Hurt and Kathleen Turner (her first movie!). Terrific murder story with lots of unforeseen twists and turns! Also Jagged Edge from 1985 with Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges. It's a murder story that makes you wonder who the killer really is. Truly shocking ending too!
Fantasy movies - there were so many!! yes people always remember The Neverending Story, Legend, The Princess Bride and Labyrinth but there was also LadyHawke which featured Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. Also Willow, The Dark Crystal, The Last Unicorn, Conan The Barbarian, Dragonslayer, Clash of the Titans, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Highlander, The Secret of Nihm, BIG (Tom Hanks was in SO MUCH in the 80s!) . - Just to name a few :)

Though I figure if you have kids that can quote from the movie (Princess Bride) or there are sequels/reboots that were made in the last decade (Ghostbusters, Labyrinth), you can't claim they're neglected.

One eighties horror that I have yet to see reacted to is the 1988 movie Waxwork starring Zach Galligan (Gremlins/ Gremlins2). I remember when I watched it as a kid, it freaked me out.
My sister and I used to try and sneak up to each other and scare the other with our best imitation of that guy who said, "welcome to zee waxworks." Imagine thinking you were alone to suddenly hear that very distinct phrase. She sounded just like him too so I eventually acted like I outgrew the game. I didn't. She scared the Hell out of me.
Wow nobody mentioned Fright Night! One of my all time favorite horror movies. Chris Sarandon is the vampire next door. ❤ also an Xer. Great blast from the past. I also think Empire of the Sun is completely u derrated. I always cry at the end when he reunites with his parents. If you know, you know.
I remember walking out of the theater with my friend after watching that movie and both of us were basically speechless. We were both like "well that was..something 😢 I really like that movie and at the time felt it was the best "don't do drugs kids" movie I'd ever watched.
One movie I want to see people react to is 48 Hrs/Another 48 Hrs. Eddie Murphy starred in 48 Hrs as his first movie (1982) during his SNL gig, and it was one of the earliest buddy-cop action movies out there, but it was cop x criminal. The original movie also had shown a solid dynamic between Jack Cates and Reggie Hammond, who had every reason to hate each other. Now, the movie is a bit sensitive by today's standards because of some elements of racism, but the journey manages to get to where these two achieve a sound enough friendship with one another that carries on into the sequel years later. And the movie is just so well edited and tells a solid enough story for what it's going for. This was before we had movies like Lethal Weapon, Red Heat, Turner & Hooch, and other types of buddy action flicks that began to pop out in the later 80s. And as for the sequel? Sabotaged by the studio. The final product is a good movie, but the reason it feels so off is because the original movie was meant to be longer - Started out at 145 mins, then got trimmed to 120 mins by studio request and with the director's involvement, and then got cut further to 90+ minutes just days before it went out to theaters. And you can see the elements that could have made the movie a lot better if it got the material restored that supported it.
The Burbs would make for a good Tom Hanks double feature as a dark comedy counterpoint to The Money Pit. And yes, we did have an appreciation for Joyce Hyser. Didn’t dethrone Soace Camp Lea Thompson for me, though.

I cannot believe you failed to mention "The Breakfast Club," "Weird Science," "Sixteen Candles," and one of my personal all-time favorites, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." This film not only had a wonderfully written script but also offered ground-breaking animation/live-action interaction. Don't assume that this is a kid's movie because it is not. Yes, the animated characters are there for the kids, but there are a lot of scenes and references that kids will not get. This film I highly recommend.
I didn’t mention John Hughes movies because they are very much part of the culture and get talked about often. Same with Roger Rabbit. This video was about neglected movies that no one ever talks about.
Great list! I haven't thought about some of those films in years! You hit right at the heart of my college movie watching years. I had forgotten how many actors got their start back then. I think a lot of folks have forgotten what an excellent comedic talent Tom Hanks is, since we mainly see him in dramatic performances these days. I would add two films to your list: Name of the Rose, to round out the young Christian Bale trilogy, and Ladyhawke, which is one of my all time favorite movies and also very underappreciated.
As a hardcore Gen-Xer (born in 1970), I couldn’t agree more with your list. In fact I would also include 30 additional titles. The late 70’s to entire 80’s were truly a phenomenal era in film. Btw “French Fries, French Dressing, French Bread and to drink, Peru.” (Also loosely based on a true story).
I will have to make a sequel to this list because you are right…it was a phenomenal era and there are so many movies to mention. And fantastic Better Off Dead quote, btw. That made me chuckle.

That’s a good one! I swear, when I started this video I underestimated just how many great 80s films there were. The list kept getting bigger and bigger…even as I recorded my voice over! I will definitely be making a sequel. It may end up being a trilogy. lol. And then I have to do the 90s!

A few favorites of mine that I wish more RUclipsrs would react to... 1) Red Dawn -- This is quintessential 80s Cold War fears brought (intelligently) to the screen. 2) Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. This is a great action/comedy that needs to be seen by more people! 3) Solarbabies. Not a great movie, by any stretch, but I really liked it when I was a kid. 4) Ladyhawke. Excellent low fantasy film starring Rutger Hauer and Matthew Broderick! 5) Revenge of the Ninja. Absolute essential 80s martial arts film that forever made the word ninja part of popular culture! 6) Howard the Duck. Corny and cringy, but fun! 7) The Bear. This is a 1988 film about an orphaned bear cub. Very well done and worth seeing! Forgot these two... 8) Enemy Mine 9) Dreamsacpe Both are good movies, starring Dennis Quaid.

Excellent list! I have added 9 new films to my watchlist! While I'm not Gen X, I do remember seeing most of these randomly on TV as a kid. Adventures in Babysitting was one me and my mom would watch every time it came on and I still love it so much.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is one of my favorite '80s comedies, and I was so disappointed to see that it has so few reactions on RUclips. Awkward Ashleigh and Shanelle Riccio both reacted to it prior to Paul Reubens' death (Ashleigh apparently recorded her reaction just before he passed, because on the video she edited in a clip of her acknowledging it), and there's a clip of three kids reacting to the trailer, but I wish there were more. It's a fun movie to watch people react to.

I have seen a few reaction channels tackle Mr Mom and Adventures in Babysitting.. and overwhelming thumbs up from those reaction channels so the channels are slowly exploring these movies. Return to Oz and Dolls are creepy and unique movies that I think deserve more attention.

Great list! I recognized every one of these movies. I also watch the same reaction channels for the same reasons. Side note, I knew I was getting old when one of the teenagers at my work had never heard of Tom Cruise. But but but, I feel so young. Anyway, cool channel and subscribed.

Great list! Here are some of my favs that I also don't think enough people remember as often or as fondly as I do: 1. The Boy Who Could Fly...omg, what a tearjerker! Watched it recently, still held up. 2. Summer School...so hard to find, but so worth the search 3. Lucas...one of both Corey Haim and Winona Ryder's first major films---they were both so young and tiny but so talented already! 4. The Incredible Shrinking Woman...possible the weirdest movie I ever loved 5. Troop Beverly Hills...so....freaking....good!!! And one honorable mention that some might consider a cult classic so I didn't include it: Teen Witch...pure 80's camp at it's finest so "top that!" 😂
Two 80s movies that come to mind are two William Peterson (CSI) vehicles are excellent suspense crime dramas, To Live and Die in LA, which features maybe the greatest car chase scenes, and Manhunter, the screen introduction of Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs). Both have a true 80s crime drama feel (Miami Vice) but are fantastic on their subjects. Manhunter was the first screen presentation of Red Dragon, later remade under that title, directed by Michael Mann (Heat). Both excellent and very underrated.
Manhunter is a GREAT choice! And one I had honestly forgotten about. I am not familiar with To Live and Die in LA, but I have heard of it. I will definitely check that out. Thanks!
To Live and Die in LA actually dared to.. well, do YOU KNOW WHAT to the main character halfway through the movie. It became an instant classic for me at that point.
@@commandercaptain4664 there’s actually a filmed version of a different ending where that event ended different. William Friedkin (director) and Peterson both allegedly preferred the version that was released.
So many amazing movies growing up through the 80s, but one that has always been a favorite and mostly forgotten is "American Dreamer 1984" ~ where the woman wins a trip to Paris, but gets in an accident and wakes up thinking she's the character from her favorite books Rebecca Ryan, and goes on a slapstick spy romp all over Paris with the author of the character she thinks she is and actually ends up thwarting a crime in the end.
Fire in the Sky was great along with Memphis Belle I loved DB Sweeney still do 😊💐Also My Chauffeur and Kiss Me Goodbye oh and couple of Jeff Bridges movies Nadine and Starman Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead was cool too :)

Great video idea. So many forgotten movies. They maybe weren't all greats, but a film doesn't have to be the next Gone With the Wind or Star Wars (whatever the original movie is called now) to be an enjoyable watch. When VHS were coming out I remember that there were many TV movies that I kept waiting to make it to video that never did, then when DVD showed up, it seemed like again a lot of movies didnt make the transfer cut. Wonder how many of those made it to Blue Ray or streaming. Shame; at this rate more could be gone than saved. So it's nice to get reviews or reactions to some of the once fondly remembered that have gotten forgotten.
My absolute favourite 80s miniseries was Deceptions (1985) starring Stephanie Powers playing identical twin sisters. One is a tired and stressed out mother and the other is a super glamourous and rich society girl. And they decide to swap lives for a while. It also stars Gina Lollobrigida, Barry Bostwick and a very young Fairuza Balk. It has everything that you want from an 80s miniseries. Glamourous Dynasty style clothes, jewels and mansions. Glamourous locations in London, Rome, Venice etc. Backstabbing, lies and mystery. Its on youtube and I highly recommend to anyone that hasn't seen it. I rate it as highly as Lace and Mistrals Daughter.
The baby years: She’s Having a Baby, Baby Boom, Three Men and a Baby, For Keeps. My mom was pregnant with my brother when these were released. She saw all of them
15:30 I was surprised about this one because Kevin Klein got an oskar for his role. So it should be more well remembered. Strange that it isn't. One of the best Eighties movies ever.

Love Flight of the Navigator. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and worth watching again as an adult.
You should add Body Heat from 1981 with William Hurt and Kathleen Turner (her first movie!). Terrific murder story with lots of unforeseen twists and turns! Also Jagged Edge from 1985 with Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges. It's a murder story that makes you wonder who the killer really is. Truly shocking ending too!
Fantasy movies - there were so many!! yes people always remember The Neverending Story, Legend, The Princess Bride and Labyrinth but there was also LadyHawke which featured Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. Also Willow, The Dark Crystal, The Last Unicorn, Conan The Barbarian, Dragonslayer, Clash of the Titans, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Highlander, The Secret of Nihm, BIG (Tom Hanks was in SO MUCH in the 80s!) . - Just to name a few :)
None of those were neglected. Those were all mega-hits.
@@cvdinjapan7935 Sure, at the time. As were many of the ones in the video. But these days, there are quite a few on their list that aren't remembered. Though I figure if you have kids that can quote from the movie (Princess Bride) or there are sequels/reboots that were made in the last decade (Ghostbusters, Labyrinth), you can't claim they're neglected.

One eighties horror that I have yet to see reacted to is the 1988 movie Waxwork starring Zach Galligan (Gremlins/ Gremlins2). I remember when I watched it as a kid, it freaked me out.
My sister and I used to try and sneak up to each other and scare the other with our best imitation of that guy who said, "welcome to zee waxworks." Imagine thinking you were alone to suddenly hear that very distinct phrase. She sounded just like him too so I eventually acted like I outgrew the game. I didn't. She scared the Hell out of me.
Wow nobody mentioned Fright Night! One of my all time favorite horror movies. Chris Sarandon is the vampire next door. ❤ also an Xer. Great blast from the past. I also think Empire of the Sun is completely u derrated. I always cry at the end when he reunites with his parents. If you know, you know.

I remember walking out of the theater with my friend after watching that movie and both of us were basically speechless. We were both like "well that was..something 😢
I really like that movie and at the time felt it was the best "don't do drugs kids" movie I'd ever watched.

One movie I want to see people react to is 48 Hrs/Another 48 Hrs.
Eddie Murphy starred in 48 Hrs as his first movie (1982) during his SNL gig, and it was one of the earliest buddy-cop action movies out there, but it was cop x criminal.
The original movie also had shown a solid dynamic between Jack Cates and Reggie Hammond, who had every reason to hate each other. Now, the movie is a bit sensitive by today's standards because of some elements of racism, but the journey manages to get to where these two achieve a sound enough friendship with one another that carries on into the sequel years later. And the movie is just so well edited and tells a solid enough story for what it's going for.
This was before we had movies like Lethal Weapon, Red Heat, Turner & Hooch, and other types of buddy action flicks that began to pop out in the later 80s.
And as for the sequel? Sabotaged by the studio. The final product is a good movie, but the reason it feels so off is because the original movie was meant to be longer - Started out at 145 mins, then got trimmed to 120 mins by studio request and with the director's involvement, and then got cut further to 90+ minutes just days before it went out to theaters. And you can see the elements that could have made the movie a lot better if it got the material restored that supported it.
Yes! 48 Hours is a Great addition to my list for the sequel of this video! Thanks for your insightful comment.

The Burbs would make for a good Tom Hanks double feature as a dark comedy counterpoint to The Money Pit.
And yes, we did have an appreciation for Joyce Hyser. Didn’t dethrone Soace Camp Lea Thompson for me, though.

I cannot believe you failed to mention "The Breakfast Club," "Weird Science," "Sixteen Candles," and one of my personal all-time favorites, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." This film not only had a wonderfully written script but also offered ground-breaking animation/live-action interaction. Don't assume that this is a kid's movie because it is not. Yes, the animated characters are there for the kids, but there are a lot of scenes and references that kids will not get. This film I highly recommend.
I didn’t mention John Hughes movies because they are very much part of the culture and get talked about often. Same with Roger Rabbit. This video was about neglected movies that no one ever talks about.
Great list! I haven't thought about some of those films in years! You hit right at the heart of my college movie watching years. I had forgotten how many actors got their start back then. I think a lot of folks have forgotten what an excellent comedic talent Tom Hanks is, since we mainly see him in dramatic performances these days. I would add two films to your list: Name of the Rose, to round out the young Christian Bale trilogy, and Ladyhawke, which is one of my all time favorite movies and also very underappreciated.
As a hardcore Gen-Xer (born in 1970), I couldn’t agree more with your list. In fact I would also include 30 additional titles. The late 70’s to entire 80’s were truly a phenomenal era in film.

(Also loosely based on a true story).
I will have to make a sequel to this list because you are right…it was a phenomenal era and there are so many movies to mention.

I'm sure I can come up with more but these were the ones that came to mind after watching

I’d add, Real Genius, My Science Project, The Last Starfighter, Ice Pirates, and Space Hunter (young Molly Ringwald).. and I know there are a few others that might be a lil risqué but non the less poignant and relevant for the time… Grease2, Porky’s trilogy, Hardbodies, to name just a few 😊

A few favorites of mine that I wish more RUclipsrs would react to...
1) Red Dawn -- This is quintessential 80s Cold War fears brought (intelligently) to the screen.
2) Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. This is a great action/comedy that needs to be seen by more people!
3) Solarbabies. Not a great movie, by any stretch, but I really liked it when I was a kid.
4) Ladyhawke. Excellent low fantasy film starring Rutger Hauer and Matthew Broderick!
5) Revenge of the Ninja. Absolute essential 80s martial arts film that forever made the word ninja part of popular culture!
6) Howard the Duck. Corny and cringy, but fun!
7) The Bear. This is a 1988 film about an orphaned bear cub. Very well done and worth seeing!

Excellent list! I have added 9 new films to my watchlist! While I'm not Gen X, I do remember seeing most of these randomly on TV as a kid. Adventures in Babysitting was one me and my mom would watch every time it came on and I still love it so much.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is one of my favorite '80s comedies, and I was so disappointed to see that it has so few reactions on RUclips. Awkward Ashleigh and Shanelle Riccio both reacted to it prior to Paul Reubens' death (Ashleigh apparently recorded her reaction just before he passed, because on the video she edited in a clip of her acknowledging it), and there's a clip of three kids reacting to the trailer, but I wish there were more. It's a fun movie to watch people react to.

I have seen a few reaction channels tackle Mr Mom and Adventures in Babysitting.. and overwhelming thumbs up from those reaction channels so the channels are slowly exploring these movies.
Return to Oz and Dolls are creepy and unique movies that I think deserve more attention.

Great list! Here are some of my favs that I also don't think enough people remember as often or as fondly as I do:
1. The Boy Who Could Fly...omg, what a tearjerker! Watched it recently, still held up.
2. Summer School...so hard to find, but so worth the search
3. Lucas...one of both Corey Haim and Winona Ryder's first major films---they were both so young and tiny but so talented already!
4. The Incredible Shrinking Woman...possible the weirdest movie I ever loved
5. Troop Beverly Hills...so....freaking....good!!!
And one honorable mention that some might consider a cult classic so I didn't include it: Teen Witch...pure 80's camp at it's finest so "top that!" 😂
My favorite movie is Better Off Dead! I've had a crush on Cusack since then. 😍😍 I love that you added Space Camp, it's such a good movie.
Hello Again with Shelley Long is one of my forgotten favourites. It’s very silly but a childhood favourite
Two 80s movies that come to mind are two William Peterson (CSI) vehicles are excellent suspense crime dramas, To Live and Die in LA, which features maybe the greatest car chase scenes, and Manhunter, the screen introduction of Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs).
Both have a true 80s crime drama feel (Miami Vice) but are fantastic on their subjects.
Manhunter was the first screen presentation of Red Dragon, later remade under that title, directed by Michael Mann (Heat).
Both excellent and very underrated.
Manhunter is a GREAT choice! And one I had honestly forgotten about. I am not familiar with To Live and Die in LA, but I have heard of it. I will definitely check that out. Thanks!

To Live and Die in LA actually dared to.. well, do YOU KNOW WHAT to the main character halfway through the movie. It became an instant classic for me at that point.
@@commandercaptain4664 there’s actually a filmed version of a different ending where that event ended different. William Friedkin (director) and Peterson both allegedly preferred the version that was released.

So many amazing movies growing up through the 80s, but one that has always been a favorite and mostly forgotten is "American Dreamer 1984" ~ where the woman wins a trip to Paris, but gets in an accident and wakes up thinking she's the character from her favorite books Rebecca Ryan, and goes on a slapstick spy romp all over Paris with the author of the character she thinks she is and actually ends up thwarting a crime in the end.
I grew up living an hour from Natchitoches, Louisiana where Steel Magnolias was filmed. The movie is a big deal for the area and always will be!
Mr. Mom is actually a role reversible movie with the tuna with a heart
Fire in the Sky was great along with Memphis Belle I loved DB Sweeney still do 😊💐Also My Chauffeur and Kiss Me Goodbye oh and couple of Jeff Bridges movies Nadine and Starman Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead was cool too :)

They maybe weren't all greats, but a film doesn't have to be the next Gone With the Wind or Star Wars (whatever the original movie is called now) to be an enjoyable watch. When VHS were coming out I remember that there were many TV movies that I kept waiting to make it to video that never did, then when DVD showed up, it seemed like again a lot of movies didnt make the transfer cut. Wonder how many of those made it to Blue Ray or streaming. Shame; at this rate more could be gone than saved. So it's nice to get reviews or reactions to some of the once fondly remembered that have gotten forgotten.
Rented all these back in the day... good times. Good list.
A great list! One of my favorite forgotten 80’s classics is Cousins, with Ted Danson & Isabella Rossellini. 🥰
My absolute favourite 80s miniseries was Deceptions (1985) starring Stephanie Powers playing identical twin sisters. One is a tired and stressed out mother and the other is a super glamourous and rich society girl. And they decide to swap lives for a while. It also stars Gina Lollobrigida, Barry Bostwick and a very young Fairuza Balk. It has everything that you want from an 80s miniseries. Glamourous Dynasty style clothes, jewels and mansions. Glamourous locations in London, Rome, Venice etc. Backstabbing, lies and mystery. Its on youtube and I highly recommend to anyone that hasn't seen it. I rate it as highly as Lace and Mistrals Daughter.
