It is a lovely experience when the AD treats you right and with respect. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones or met the right SA and developed a rapport with him. He's treated me well and always with the highest level of respect.
One salesman at an AD in wisma atria told me that upfront that it would take the purchase of 4-5 datejusts or less popular models to "attract" management's attention for their approval to reserve their sports models.
They also mentioned that such spending was for lack of a better word "buy their trust" as they did not know who would flip the watches. And also encouraged me to go for the other brands in their portfolio to "build relationships". Then why spend 60-70k to "build relationships" when i can just go opposite to lucky plaza and pay a premium for a sports model on the grey without the time and hassle of "relationship building" and the "privilege" of sitting in a fancy botique. Mind you i was in simple clothing and they couldnt even be bothered to serve me properly but spoke down to me like i was some peasant who couldnt afford their watches.
The grey dealers treated me with far more proper customer service. Back when the demand was low, those ADs had to give discounts and treated their customers much better. Unfortunately success has gotten to their head 🤣
I must say that’s very sad but true. I understand where they are coming from and I’m just wondering how does their sales personnel make their commission nowadays. They are there in the store everyday but without products to sell and their KPI is base on sales number? I’m puzzled to be honest.
I agreed with you regarding heading opposite to get from grey dealer as well esp those popular models. I guess multi Brands AD knows that some Brands are just way too popular than the rest but they can’t neglect those other Brands as well. Hence probably the ‘gold standard’ for customer is to really be a horologist than a brand specific die hard fan.

I guess they are there to push brands which don’t move as fast i.e Tudor etc. But the scarcity of Rolex doesn’t give them the right to treat any potential customer like trash :( the male salesman also mentioned that “it would be impossible to allow you to see all the watches in the range as there are many combinations”. While that may be true, couldn’t you even show us a sample?
And that also explains why the other brands in their portfolio is not selling because their sucky attitude is enough to turn people away from the Brands owned by the AD. The only reason I heard from the salesman was that we should choose brands that “might appreciate” and “who knows you will get lucky” while wearing a smug grin on his face.and not be fixated on Rolex. Damn lousy salesmanship. I wasn’t even offered a chance to try any of the watches. So in the end, he just passed us a slip of paper and told us to fill in our interest for some random datejust.
Bro I agree that we can all be horologists but with such bad attitudes, how to even enter the game. But luckily in SG, we are blessed with an abundance of grey market dealers who were so eager to help me with my purchases. I would rather spend my money on those uncles and aunties who will gladly allow you to try on pieces which they know you can never afford for the experience.
As for the AD at Wisma Atria, I sincerely hope that your rich customers continue coming cause apparently you don’t like the heartland crowd.
I agreed with you, in the past, sales person puts in effort and try to make the sales for all watches even Rolex.
But because of the demand instead of asking customer to buy, customer has to be the one begging for the watch AND DON EVEN THINK ABOUT DISCOUNT!
It’s saddening to see sales personnel that doesn’t have the passion. Every customer walk in should be treated with respect.
Hence here comes the vicious cycle whereby the ‘market price’ has gone off the roof as customer can’t get the watch and is frustrated being sold a dream instead of a watch and decided to get it from grey dealer which u can get it as long as u are willing to pay for it.
Anyway be it getting from AD or grey dealer, the barrier of entry for the mass market younger generation will almost not be possible. That’s the fact and hush truth.
@@sgwatchtalk9906 yes bro. Got the same rubbish treatment and unprofessional salesmanship when i went to hourglass at vivo city today. Just got to come to terms that the premium that the grey dealers charge are worth it cause they bother to serve their customers properly.
Im not bothered about the discount tbh. Just hate the fact that assholes like that are chosen to repesent the brand. Unfortunately, they have gotten too big to bother.

I noticed that employees at ADs in certain countries are more freindly and are not arrogant then like western countries and that is from my own personal experience. I know there are some that are good, but have not met one yet
I beg to differ, just because I was not wearing jeans and shoes, simply in my shorts and slippers, they refused to entertain me until one of the staff noticed the rolex I was wearing….
I live right around the corner of Ion Orchard so I always pass through that shop and they are always friendly. Normally I am in shorts and polo and I wear smart watch.
Definitely I got an OP 41 green without any purchase history but it took 1.5 years and I checked in once a month. Hard but not impossible
I don't know about you but I went to Gearys Rolex boutique in Rodeo Drive, LA. I was wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a round neck t shirt. They served me pretty well. Showed me all the display watches. None of them were for sale. They only had one president for sale which was way out my budget but the staff were really nice and well behaved.

I remember when you could walk into a dealer and see the Air King, just ignore it because it was the "bottom of the line" and when you got your 10% off on the Stainless Sub, he'd try to offer you the Air King for 20% off... that was less than 10 years ago.
Yes. I basically walk into an ad at peninsula with 8 GMT masters for me to choose. I got one at 6100k after discounts back in 2006.
IIRC, I got 20% off when I bought my SS/18k Datejust in 1990. I didn't even ask. Still have it, BTW.
I bought a sub with date in 2015 in Vancouver. For CAD $9500. The sales showed couple of sub for me to choose. And almost every model in display back then.
The older Air-King has been discontinued I saw the older one and it's not that attractive. But this new one is a better update of the older one.
The air king is probably the only watch in the Rolex lineup that has the actual brand colour of the Rolex logo

@@LorianandLothricnot according to the product photos on the Rolex website.. Green dial OP36 has plain lettering and coronet. The green Rolex lettering with yellow coronet is only on the Air King.

lol i can't be bothered to go to an AD to build relationships. I'd just go straight to the greys to pick up whatever I want since it seems they have every possible Rolex watch there.

I’m a regular customer of another branch elsewhere and the sales person I’m with had asked me not to reveal in social media who I buy the watch from, as this can get him/her into a spot of trouble, in the sense that some customers will compare and then demand answers why they haven’t got their allocation
Imagine having to wait to buy an Air King 🤣 This is why modern watch collecting is fucked. Dude, fuck Rolex fuck the hype, get yourself a nice watch from other brands that don’t create artificial scarcity that benefits no one but scalpers.

I suspect it looks huge cos he is holding the camera too close to the watch. I realised this cos all my early watch photos looked like that, even though the watch was a nice fit in real life. When I pulled the camera further back, the watch "shrunk".
The popular sports models are so hard to get from Singapore Rolex ADs. Congrats to the new owner. But personally, no Air King for me as the numerals are too out of place in my opinion. Sorry if this opinion doesn't goes well with Air King owners.

Everyone, give your AD's a chance. I live in Tulsa and the AD here on 15th Street is FANTASTIC. My first visit was exactly two weeks prior to receiving my Sub LV. On my first visit I registered my 3 models of interest (Sub LV was #2). Two weeks later, I went in to ask if they could fix a broken ring mount (my second visit), and the AD said he had something to show me. 2 hours later I was wearing the Sub LV. What I did: Be sincere. Show interest in the store. Be honest. Let them know you will be giving them your business in other areas. Know exactly what models you want and why. Dress respectfully. Wear a Rolex.
I remember when I bought my first Rolex they sat me in a private room and brought out wine or champagne, now they sell you a watch right in the main showroom and they offer bottled water.
I remember when I bought my Rolex in 1989 you walked in the store, bought the watch and then walked out again. Ah, the good old days.

Congratulations, you seems happy, getting a Rolex is a milestone in a life and you are still so young 👍 at 1st I was in a some way jealous because I thought about a sub, I have to confess it was a relief to see an air king 😅😅 I am not a huge fan of this model. Anyway, it is so ludicrous to see AD are becoming museums to the glory of the watches with "not for sale" mention.
I totally agreed with u man. It’s crazy with all the products only on exhibition. On the contrary to curb the grey market, shouldn’t they flood the AD with more watches of cos without compromising the QC so that customer can walk in and buy instead of grey market going driving up the price. Just my 2cents opinion
i want to buy rolex in Copenhagen, they won't sell me one so i went to other store in Sweden and bought Grand Seiko. thank God for that 🙏

So i heard of a friends friends who bought a rolex for $12k at Incheon Airport in Seoul last year while changing flights , he bought there and then without being on any list? Is that possible?

Hi can I understand how u started your first Rolex watch with this AD? I understand from most Rolex enthusiasts u need to get another brand of watches before the AD can sell u a specific Rolex model. What if this AD only sell Rolex, then my question how to start?

Bought a few at there Raffles outlet a few years ago; lots of choice then. Even in the 5070k range l waiting time only a few weeks. Now shortage the world over? I think it’s created. It’s not just investments. People may think they don’t lose value but that may not be true at all. When times change this bubble could well collapse. My prediction: when 5 years from now 70% of the watches bought for investment go back on the market. Only the mint unworn pieces will hold their value. The others lose 20-40%. Mark my words
I do think you make a point! Infact I’m a big advocate that buy what you like instead of buying as a investment. Should the watch appreciate, it’s really a bonus!

I think this is a Rolex Boutique, Rolex Boutique only sells Rolex, it's owned and operated by Rolex, i never been to A Rolex Boutique its more classy than typical AD. Anyway my AD is very nice to me here in Walnut Creek California. I got my Air- King for 44 days waiting. I am so happy with the journey towards acquiring my Rolex.

Its well sized. Speced though on older movement. Less power reserve. But nonetheless its still a good movement. And looks super nice

I recently bought my first Rolex from a different AD. It took 1.5 years and I emailed, stopped by, or texted them once a month.
The fact that there is no waiting list...all is BS. AD sells Rolex to whoever customer they see "fit". Most likely they will sell you one when you purchase some of their slow moving brands. Get it?

Do many people there wear their luxury watches in public? Especially since Rolex is very sought after, many places in the world are seeing an increase in the number of Rolex robberies. No worries. Safe city with lots of rich people. Just be mindful on the timing and location tht you wear them. Like all big safe cities, there are always some criminals waiting for the right time in an uncrowded street alley etc.
I wear my sub and bb58 in Kuala Lumpur on a daily basis. I believe Sg much more safe (city to city comparison).
Nobody bats an eyelid if you wear a Rolex here in Singapore. Its like a Swatch to us basically. Everyone has at least a few. Yawn….

I went to raffi at yorkdale mall in Toronto ready to buy my Rolex watch. Those arrogant saw me in dirty clothes and didn’t take me as a serious customer. Their lost, I didn’t buy it.

Bullshit services from hour glass ion team. Left my name under interest list only to find out from other hour glass stores that they have never entered my details. It was only lip service right from the start and I waited forever in vain.
