- I've been playing and singing this tune forever. It's one of my very favorites to play on the acoustic... such a moody/spacey tune. I've been wanting to cover this for the longest time; I guess putting the new strings on my Guild inspired me to do it while the strings still sounded fresh and twangy. I did use both my 6 string acoustics on this tune, one panned left and the other right. But the intro was actually played on my Ovation acoustic.
The solos were both played on my electric guitars. The first solo on the song is the actual guitar solo. But the second (outro) solo was originally played on a keyboard/synthesizer. I decided to recreate it here using a funky effect I have on my Peavey VYPYR2 amp.
I hope you dig this tune and my cover as much as I love this song!

I've enjoyed Emerson Lake & Palmer for 45 years and consider them gods of Progressive Rock. I thought that their music could not be duplicated. But yet, what sorcery is this??? Awesome music here Dave.

@@DaveRucci I've love ELP since the early 70's. Last time I saw Keith and Greg was on their mini tour in 2010. 49 years ago I worked their Dec 17&18 1973 shows at Madison Sq Garden. Back then working a show you cold sit back and enjoy them. BTW the shows were done in Quad Sound.

OMG, I absolutely love this song, and this is hands down the BEST cover version I have seen anywhere!!! Your vocal is outstanding, and your guitar work in all 5 guitars is so darn HOT, and the percussion is perfect too! I love the electric guitar you used for the bridge part from 2:16, and the one at 3:07 is great looking too. Extraordinary work, Dave!!! Well done, Dave. You are an excellent multi-instrumentalist. This song by Greg Lake has such simple and resonant lyrics that has been pleasing listeners for decades and remains one of the most covered songs. This is one of the best cover versions I've had the pleasure to experience.

Saw them twice in the 70s. KE came down from the ceiling strapped to a Baby Grand that was also rotating. Pitch black with the only light in the building being two spotlights on him. The piano was white if I’m remembering right, He was wearing a white tuxedo and was spanking that Baby Grand.

When I saw the time of your upload, I knew you were going to create the second outro solo in only a way that you are able to. Your version is the best I've seen here on You Tube. Bravo!! Yes Dave, Keith and Greg sadly are no longer with us. Having the vinyl is sacred for me. I even have a turntable to play my vinyls. I don’t know if you are a fan of Three Dog Night but Corey Wells has recently left us also. He had been actively performing up until his death, a few years ago. I loved him the most out of all the members of the band. Always so smiley. May they all Rest In Peace. Hope you are well.
Absolutely I know Corey and 3 Dog... I went thru a phase a few years ago where I had them on repeat on my Ipod/Iphone. In fact I remember when Corey died cause I told my dad the news... he was a huge 3 Dog fan and used to play them all the time around the house when I was growing up. He was pretty bummed about the new, and unfortunately, a few months later my dad found out he had terminal cancer, and has since passed over 2 years ago...
I intend on doing more 3 DN covers... most in his honor! Did you see my cover of "Out in the Country"? I wish my pops had been alive to see it... :(
