  • OK Guys, the Montreal Canadiens have officially signed 2022 first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky.. to a deal which in my opinion was fantastic... Not only does Slafkovsky make less than the likes of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.. But this was just a low risk deal that the Canadiens will reap the benefits from down the road! Let's break this one down!
The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

It seems like KH is taking the rebuild exactly the way it should be taken. Small steps. Small but progressive. The more time you put into it, the better the team, and the LONGER they stay competitive. I eventually want a HABS team that contends for a long time. And I don't really care how long it takes to get to that point. To be honest, I'm having a lot of fun watching the rebuild. I've never been so invested in the prospects pool and watching our players in the AHL, Juniors, Europe...etc. Having a lot of fun. It's an exciting time to be a HABS fan right now.

More than a great deal, that Slaf contract reinforces the team-friendly culture set up by Suzuki and Caufield with their own contract, and using Suzuki as a bench mark. I think this bodes well for future signing as well, because each player that buys into that culture will reinforce it. Now, someone who wants to make more needs to argue that they are more valuable to the habs than their captain, Caufield and Slaf.
Polar opposite of the leaf's core 4, taking up 50% + of their team's cap between them.

Before the Habs go heavy after a free agent or two, the talent coming up should push out the replacement level players, and the dead weight gets offloaded one way or another. A year or two for that. On paper they're starting to look closer to a .500 team than bottom 5.

@@adamCarter20 I think while that is true, it's been proven time and time again that their "out score them" philosophy doesn't work in the playoffs. a lot of their cap is invested in 4 players and it's kinda hurting them I think.. I don't follow the Leafs so that's an asumption, but finishing high every year gives them a weaker prospect pool to fill those gaps with ELC players to get under the cap I would asume.. and generally it's known you build from the net out.. which I really think Toronto didn't do. I could be wrong though.. can't argue with the results.

    • @adamCarter20
      @adamCarter20 26 дней назад

@cartorius If it's known that you build from the net out, then Habs have failed, cause just like the Leafs, right now Montreal doesn't have a top goalie they can rely on, we can only HOPE Fowler can one day be that guy, amd if he isn't, then we gotta hope and pray our prospects on defense become absolute studs.

Pretty early to say they've failed honestly.
Habs are right smack in the middle of a rebuild; the core is still extremely young. Fowler, Miller, Volokhin are not even 20 yet. Dobbes is 23 and played his 1st season in the AHL last year. Vrbetic is probably the least promising of the bunch and he's 21. Then there is Croteau who I don't know much about, he's only 20 as well playing NCAA.

gonna say that I'm really gonna miss having Honda Civic on the team.

I wouldnt be surprised he does a 1pt per game season if paired with Demidov in a few years....this would become one of the top contract in the NHL, easily.

Habs did a great job with the draft and for not thumbing for a ride in the free agency clown car today. Habs took several steps forward this week.

I got something I wanted to get your take on. Which 3 prospects are better, Slaf, Reinbacher & Demidov or Shane Wright, Mishkov & let's say Parakh? How about head to head, Mishkov versus Demidov? If you were to rate those 6 picks, the 3 they took & the 3 they could have taken, in what order would they be. Thanks, love your content.

No point splurging on UFA's, we don't' even know if the team is at the point where we make the playoffs, even less how far they would go. You pay for UFA's when your team has shown they can make it or just need 1 last piece to make it. They did EXACTLY what I expected them, kept cap space. They'll play this season, see how far from the playoffs they are, try to unload some of our bad contracts via paying some cap, try to acquire young players or draft picks, and keep rebuilding along. If we DO reach the playoffs, they'll be more aggressive down the line, but now is not the time.

I'm glad for Sean but glad we didn't sign him either. More than signing 1 guy (Slaf), they secured a whole line or at least a binome for what, 6 years or more? That's how you build team spirit. Imagine in 7 years, they're not gonna want to play with anyone else than their besties.

I don’t hate the logic behind the deal, i just fear that Montreal will end up like Ottawa, because this is exactly what Ottawa did.
Betting on the future projections of 1 or 2 guys is one thing, but OTT really pushed the note and so far no collective results and mixed individual results.
Suzuki is worth his contract so far, Caufield isn’t that far off just needs to be 35 goal+, Slaf played well for 50 games, Guhle is next and afterwards there is a bunch more, i simply hope the criterias to open the bank won’t be lowered any further.

I’m not a Habs fan, but I was astonished by how many mainly outsiders gave the Slaf signing harsh criticism.
The whole league is in for a rude awakening if they don’t realize Slaf is breaking out, and it started mid season this past year.

The Slovaks have a slow start in team sports for some reason. It's an odd quality that's generally misunderstood by others. I personally never doubted Slaf's ability to progress and deliver.

Hughes has shown that if you sign with Montreal you buy into what they are building, you will get paid but you won't get overpaid and if you don't like that , fine montreal will move on. Staying away in free agency was actually really good , what contract that was signed today would you have liked in Montreal? I don't see any . Can't add on d , we have to many young players coming up , up front all the top players signed were either to much term or to much money . Trades have been a strength of hughes , he's not done yet it's literally just the start of the off-season

To be fair, toronto did draft top talent that may be superior individually… that can make for a difficult financial landscape.
I like the looks of the Habs moving forward
