  • OK Guys, it's time to take a look at Montreal Canadiens young D prospect Lane Hutson.. and talk about where he should play during the 2024-2025 season. Should Hutson play in Laval, and develop a year amongst a new coaching staff.. OR.. Should he play under Marty St Louis in the NHL.. I think training camp / the pre season will dictate alot of this.. But you can give your thoughts in the comment section!
The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

I'd say he's NHL ready, but the question is who's spot is he going to take? Right now on the left side there's Matheson, Guhle, Xhekaj and Struble. I can't see him taking the spot of either Matheson or Guhle, and I wouldn't like to see Xhekaj back in the AHL or become the 7th dman either. Guhle has played a bit on the right before, so maybe that could be an option to free a spot on the left.

As much as I am anxious to see what the best pick from the NHL Draft of 2024 will do in the NHL, I am more than happy for him that he gets to play out this season in the KHL. Hutson is a point per game player. Lock for the Calder next year! 😅😅😅
But seriously, even if he lights it up in training camp, there is still the possibility that he starts the year in Laval. Only because they have so many D that would have to clear waivers to go to Laval, and they obviously don't want to loose any of them for nothing.
He shouldn't, but contracts might force Hughes hand if a deal(s) can't get done.
Matheson, Savard, Guhle, Xhekaj, Harris, Barron would need to pass waivers. Struble, Hutson, Mailloux don't.
Personally I think Struble and Mailloux would likely make the trip to Laval before Hutson would, but you never know. Throw another wrench into the pile, what happens if Mailloux and Reinbacher, along with Hutson come out of training camp all having bang up camps? Just to make life more difficult.
I can see the D being
    Matheson Guhle
    Hutson Savard
    Xhekaj
Barron and Harris rotate the 3rd RD position, barring any trades of course.
If we see a situation where they keep Struble over Hutson, then I think Xhekaj moves up to the 2nd LD spot and Struble Harris & Barron rotate in and out on the 3rd pairing.
Hutson starts the year in Laval with Reinbacher on his right. Engstrom plays with Mailloux

Thank you for being one of the few fans that understand that it's not just about talent that gets you on a team. Contractual status is what will decide who is on the team this year. Like you pointed out, we have to many D that will need to clear waivers in order to allow another guy to play and HuGo won't be risking giving any of them away for free.
