I think you do a better job testing these bows than anyone else out there. Don’t listen to all the haters. The majority appreciate your hard work. Thank you
I finally found a left handed 33 in stock and was able to shoot it a bit. I decided to pick it up, spend some time with it, and wanted to report out my real world findings. To be honest, I was very skeptical about this bow when I first saw the release of it. When I first inspected one in person, my skepticism grew. You can literally grab the cam and bend it around in all directions (of course with the bow at brace) as the limbs are so skinny they just flex like crazy. I was worried about that from a durability standpoint. I was also worried about the cams being very, very skeletonized. They seem like they would be easy to bend, etc. Those were some initial observations before I got to shoot one. I got to shoot one and my first reaction was 1) the draw cycle is very linear, just stiff 2) there is no valley (even at 85%) 3) the vibe/shock after the shot is more than the Phase 4 and 4) the riser length adds to stability significantly 5) something different in the grip where your thumb fits is improved. I shot it with both C and D draw length mods and landed on taking it home with the C mod. I bought the bow and took it home (we do our own set up and tuning at home)...... Set up was easy. With a center shot rest we had a perfect bullet hole with ZERO top hat changes or any other changes. The Match strings are an improvement over the Zebra, not sure how much of an improvement but they are better. They are thinner and they did settle very quickly and my peep locked in. So I just started shooting it for a few days. The bow has a very clean shot cycle, very clean release. With it all set up, the vibe/shock was mostly gone. I got used to the draw cycle being stiff. I never did like the lack of a valley. My style of shooting my hinge is to relax/elongate the palm of my hand and that style does not work well with a bow with no valley. As I shot it, I realized the C mod was making me feel a bit long. I was not stable at full draw and could feel being a bit overextended. My shop still had the D mods, so I switched to them and now I was too short, feeling scrunched up. When I am scrunched up, I have hand torque. For me, having the draw length perfect is a huge issue, as I finally found out how well I shoot when my draw length is spot on. It matters hugely! So, sadly, I am caught between a D and C on this new Mathews cam and not comfortable at either. Note on the previous Mathews cam the D mod worked well for me). Yes, could I twist strings and/or remove the grip and/or fiddle with D loop length or even my release neck length (different releases) - yes I could do all of that to try and get the Lift 33 to fit my draw length. Since I have other bows I shoot well, I did not want to put that level of effort into the Lift, so I sold it/traded it. As long as Mathews runs this newest cam with the 1/2" draw length limits, I am probably out of luck with Mathews. Conclusion, while I can't speak to the long term durability of the bow/cams, if your draw length fits one of the draw mods and if you are OK with no valley, this bow could be a great choice for you. Thank you.
You were up early MFJJ!!🤣 I'm also noticing a theme - when you are reviewing bows you wear a T-Shirt of another (aka rival) manufacturer. Nice way to show your impartiality. Keep up the great work.
MFJJ, you have totally started a movement in the companies to show up or shut up with their products. Dare I say you are our voice?! Keep up the great work and shouting from the rooftop for us. Saying want more from the companies and their products for the price.
Yup. Reflex measured 2" on the lift 29 and was brushed off but bashed another brand for it being 2", didn't switch another brands let off to see if it mattered. Enjoy the vids but definitely biased towards mathews
The Lift 33 is 100% worth the upgrade especially if you are in a v3 or older model bow. I love shooting it at the pro shop. I’m not overly crazy about the 29.5 but I’ve never liked the shorter bows. 33 has always been the sweet spot for me. It’s an awesome bow Mathew’s definitely takes the cake 2024! Great review btw appreciate all your time into doing reviews.
Great review! I’m a Mathews fan but the 343 ibo is crazy. Mathews should just be honest. Most consumers would rather see the accurate number upfront instead of buying and being surprised it’s 20 fps slow.
Just so you know, the bow is not rated IBO it’s rated ATA which is a completely different spec. Also, it says up to 343 which means maxed out at the 31 1/2 inch draw
I have a question regarding maxing out the cam and the opposite. For example take a bow with a cam that's 28.5 - 32.5. At max you are getting speed but a rougher draw, at minimum are you getting better stability but more of a slug? Is that correct? and when choosing a bow/cam should you look for a happy medium?
Yep, worth the upgrade from the V3x. Thanks for an honest eval. I shot the 33 this morning and the weight loss is very noticeable when you pick it up. Smoother draw cycle than my V3x 33 too.
Totally. The second I held a 33 at my local shop, it was wayyyy lighter than my V3X 29 lol. And the LIFT 33 had both stabs on them. Drew it back and the 70# mod felt like pulling a 60#. It's a totally new bow, from the riser, cams, and even the string/cable lol.
@@the_atomic_punk487nice! I’m still waiting for my LIFT 33” to get to my pro shop. Taking a while to get here. I may as well wait for the 2025 Mathews 😂🤣😂
These reviews definitely get me wanting new gear so in that regard, they’re great and super informative. Thanks always for the quick, precise information homies!
Mathews does it again! I’m still shooting a Traverse (best shooting bow I’ve ever put in my hands). Looking forward to checking this out and possibly making a purchase 👀 Love the review!
Great video. I watched the 29.5 also and both seem like top contenders. I'm in the market and looking at the Phase 4 and the Lift to see where I can get the best bow for myself. Next step is going into the archery shop and shooting them. Thanks for all the effort and honest content you put into these videos.
What I'd really like to see in next year's reviews is Axle to axle length and string angle at full draw. (at 28" since that's about the happy medium for draw lengths out there) But I guess 30" is easier to do and be consistent with. Should be really telling if a bow fits or not.
I use to shoot a Matthews bow and did so for many years. One of the things I really enjoyed was a small profile and light weight. Interesting to see a move it that direction.
The best product or person always has the most haters. I got a fully loaded phase 4 33 after trading my carbon one. Best decision yet. I’d be buying the lift if i could find one used!
I love your reviews!!! You would be the real MVP if you could do the same speed tests you're already doing but with the maxed out draw length and 80 lbs draw weight. You're the perfect person to do this as you run the shop.
Another outstanding and comprehensive review! As has been mentioned numerous times, yours are the only reviews that I trust to be honest and objective. I'm not a Mathews fanboy, nor am I a hater. Since the days of the Monster series, they've always felt top-heavy to me and I still believe the Switchback is one of the best bows ever made.
MFJJ, Thank you for lots of good information. I enjoy your review. The only thing I wish you would do is change your scoring to a quantitative method instead of a qualitative one. As for weight, I do not care what it is made of as long as it hits a certain range. Not sure anyone cares what it is made from when they take a shot. Also, I would rather you review the bow once your stabilizer bars are on it. Doesn’t do much good if the savings in weight just require heavier or longer bars. Vibration scores should be smaller gets a bigger score. If what you say is true, that would be one reason to buy a longer bow. The scores should reflect this or at least allow someone to say hey this is a section the shorter is better and these are reasons the longer is better and decide which criteria to select. Would be cool to see drawforce curves to go along with your comments on smoothness and draw sensations. It helps us to experience what you feel by what we see. Thanks again for the great reviews and I look forware to future ones
I just got back from my local shop and shot it. And I like that cam better than my v3x 33. I shot it the new hoyt and a ss34 all in a row and the draw and back wall are more to my liking on the new lift. But the lift has a pretty good twang in the riser. The ss34 I shot was just a jump with no twang if that makes sense. If I wasn’t into tinkering I would have stuck with Mathews. But bowtech fits my tendencies to tinker.
Finally, I went to the bow shop today. I have it narrowed to the lift 33 and the revolt x 80, both 31" draw at 80 lb. Does anyone have the pros and cons for either? Thank you.
Fade to black, huh? Go back to 2015 and look at the Martin Lithium Pro. Same scheme but fades from light camo to dark (almost black) camo What a novel idea Mathews...lol
According to Lancaster Archery’s review, Mathews is doing a IBO rating on their speed which 80#, 400grn arrow and the max draw length of cam. As opposed to the speed test Lancaster did which they said was ATA speed rating which they said is 70#, 350 grn at 30”. That’s why your speed test is off 12-13 feet per second.
This is the bow I’ve been waiting for since the halon with Mathews. I look at many people, and many bows, and it just doesn’t seem like much has changed in a drastic enough manner since the halon (for me-mr budget minded guy), to spend that kind of $ on a new bow that’s only a couple of things different from the last 3-4. Now that bow right there is substantially different enough, and feature ridden enough, I’ve say a halon, I might take a good look at it.
How do I know for sure my Riser is Warped on a Diamond Edge sb-1! My arrow rest is all the way to the left, my sight is all the way to the right, and I'm still shooting to the right.
I am still loving shooting my Mathews Vertix. It is so smooth and quiet, and accurate as can be. My only gripe about it is that I wish the draw cycle was a tad less harsh at the start. Otherwise it’s been a joy, definitely the best now I have ever owned. I would like to move back to a slightly longer ATA so this will more than likely be the ticket for me. But I’m probably still keeping the Vertix…
My LIFT33 has turned out to be somewhat disappointing because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW IT SHOOTS…….. I made the comment earlier about my limbs being replaced 4 times and Mathews (SCHEELS The Colony TX) replaced my bow. Only to have the limbs on that bow splinter also. Those limbs were replaced on Monday and today (Wednesday) my limbs splintered again! Nothing out of the ordinary here; 31.5/72/85….. 29.5”/472 grain Sirius Gemini arrows w/ 50 grain podium titanium half out and 125 grain field point.
You would think Mathews would leave the metal riser, but they continue to innovate with something. Coming back with the McPherson series "like" Monster cams is interesting on this platform. Good review!
Come on now, speed isn’t close… if it was any other brand you’d be deducting major points and wouldn’t bring up the speed to specs ratios… I get it, you don’t want to piss Mathew’s off but I don’t think you’re being completely unbiased… keep up the Best Bow Reviews on the internet! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into these videos and I do consider your opinions when it comes to bows/ accessories
I think it’s more than it’s getting the speeds it is for its size and specs, more so than it being accurate to what’s advertised. Does it hit the 343 number? No. Is it still very fast for its dimensions? Yes
New sub. You're thorough but not dry. I've been trying to justify a new bow for years, but 20fps and less vibration doesn't justify $1k+. Guess I'll just keep doing string/ cable every few years.
Wondering what difference in string angle there is between Phase 4 29" and Lift 29.5. That would be a solid video and you could explain a lot about string angle. I had to adjust my V3X 29 a quarter inch longer than normal to get nose to touch.
Now that all of the reviews are out, I think this is the fastest 33 ata other then the Core SR. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm curious to see what's the bow from 32-34 ata with the best linear draw and speed compromise
I would love that PSE would allow You to test the Nock on version as I was very impressed with Mach 30 and Dudley just presented the NockOn 30 ES. It costs a bag of money to get in to Europe so would love to see a n independent review before investing.
For longer draw lengths, 31 and up, how does this stack up against the Hoyt Highline? Saw your unboxing video but couldn't find the follow up/second one you mentioned. How does it measure up on the vibration, and shooting heavy arrows 650 or so? Thanks
Mathews measures IBO which is 80lbs plus or minus 2 lbs at maximum draw length and a 400 grain arrow. Not ATA which is 70 lbs plus or minus 2lbs at 30 inch draw length
@@Brian-Urban9048 his normal threshold is 10fps slow to be acceptable so to get a 4/5 is unusual. SR350 was off big, he called it out, bowtech hasn’t fudged speed since. Wish he’d hit Mathews a little harder so they’d work to get closer to spec.
@rwhite7361 his 4/5 really surprised me! I really love his reviews and the unbiased opinions. The fact that the published speed is so far off seems like an advertising pants-on-fire move. He usually holds true. He has the absolute best reviews on the interwebs. The 4? It was a headscratcher for me.
@@Brian-Urban9048 maybe there was some mafia type insinuations when he was hunting at the proving ground, he usually doesn’t waiver. I still love his reviews and will watch everything his channels pump out
Just ordered my Lift 33 yesterday…never had a bow that was bridgelock compatible. Is it worth mounting the site that way? Or go the normal route with an X frame mounting system.
IBO speed is measured by shooting a bow with an 80-pound draw weight (+/- 2 pounds), maximized draw length, and a 400-grain arrow. Bow was shot with @30" 70# 12 more pounds +1 1/2 draw length would make a considerable difference.
Josh, I might argue that the IBO was tested at 80#. We all know that the heavier weight will IBO slightly higher, maybe 3 feet per second? Add 5 grains of weight for the nock point and D-loop lets say 1-2 fps. Then add another 4 fps for an 80% LO module. So, 3+1+4=8 fps you could add when accounting for the discrepancy in speed. I think with the 350 grain arrow you got like 326? Add 8 fps to that and you would be at 334 fps. That is within your 10 point range of leniency. I am excited about this bow for sure. As always, nice review. You do good work man, thank you.
Would you say if im at 29.5” draw length and i shot the 29.5 ata model it would still be much nicer on the draw cycle even just half in off the max setting, instead of maxed at 30 like you stated here?
I wonder if the angle of the limbs at draw will make the let off % add more speed than a normal bows mod change. Would like to see the speed test re done with 80% mods to confirm the speed for sure.
carry options for long walks....Hoyt and Martin-Rytera have Riser-Bridges that fit into ordinary belt hooks, APA Archery has camera-gear-compatible threads on the riser to attach paparazzi style quick draw harnesses ... carring a bow in your hand over anything longer than the shot cycle itself... Am I the only one?

I think it’s more than it’s getting the speeds it is for its size and specs, more so than it being accurate to what’s advertised. Does it hit the 343 number? No. Is it still very fast for its dimensions? Yes
Same for the vibration.
@@jakeroberts9307bowtech core sr is about the same spec with far more faster speed with less vibration
@@jakeroberts9307 It's not though lol
💯
Thank you Josh. For every inch of draw length, is there a consistent reduction in speed? at a 28.5 DL, what speeds could you expect?
What ended up being your go to setup for this year?
Great review as always. Might be time to upgrade my Mathews.
New sub. You're thorough but not dry. I've been trying to justify a new bow for years, but 20fps and less vibration doesn't justify $1k+. Guess I'll just keep doing string/ cable every few years.
You mentioned the draw cycle is better without the cam maxed out. For someone pulling 70lbs, would this bow benefit from the 80lb turned down to 70?
Wondering what difference in string angle there is between Phase 4 29" and Lift 29.5. That would be a solid video and you could explain a lot about string angle. I had to adjust my V3X 29 a quarter inch longer than normal to get nose to touch.
Interested to see what it shoots for speed with limb bolts maxed out like it came…
When you say a 400 grain arrow does that include the point or insert or just the arrow?
Now that all of the reviews are out, I think this is the fastest 33 ata other then the Core SR. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm curious to see what's the bow from 32-34 ata with the best linear draw and speed compromise
People don’t even care that it’s 20 slow. Still going to run out and buy it, then pretend it’s really a 343 bow.
Been waiting for this review 🔥
I will be curious to see the speed once they get the 80% mods.
Difference between this bow and the TRX38 Gen 2?
For western hunting Elk and Muleys, 33 or 29?
Just add sound please. I think it’s a big factor when comparing with the bows speeds. Thanks
What were the decibels? Close to the pse mach 33?
I would love that PSE would allow You to test the Nock on version as I was very impressed with Mach 30 and Dudley just presented the NockOn 30 ES. It costs a bag of money to get in to Europe so would love to see a n independent review before investing.
I would love to know what you thought about the draw cycler difference between the SR and the new Mathews 33. Speeds seem the same.
JJ, your my new go to channel after a long work day. Put your review of this on before watching my buddies over at TheHuntingPublic
For longer draw lengths, 31 and up, how does this stack up against the Hoyt Highline? Saw your unboxing video but couldn't find the follow up/second one you mentioned. How does it measure up on the vibration, and shooting heavy arrows 650 or so? Thanks
is 27 inch draw length too short to shoot this bow? i have been told 27 inches is too short to get "efficiency" out of the cams.
Possible to get the 80lb tests on the 33.5 and the 29.5?
i notice a hoyt shirt when testing Mathews and a mathews shirt when testing a hoyt. very unbiased of you
Thank goodness MFJJ takes in trade ins on their Mathews. Cant wait to pick one up
Worth the upgrade from a VXR 31.5? fyi...I'm a 31" draw length and shoot 70# if that matters.
Love your reviews I’m coming up there next year 🤙🏽keep up the great videos
Mathews measures IBO which is 80lbs plus or minus 2 lbs at maximum draw length and a 400 grain arrow. Not ATA which is 70 lbs plus or minus 2lbs at 30 inch draw length
I forgot 350 grains for AtA
Lmao trying not to piss off the big dog. Getting a 4/5 on speed despite being that off big time is wild.
By wild, do mean insanely biased for the underdog?
I still love his reviews and will watch everything his channels pump out
Try 80 pound mods with 80% let off. You’ll get that speed
Just ordered my Lift 33 yesterday…never had a bow that was bridgelock compatible. Is it worth mounting the site that way? Or go the normal route with an X frame mounting system.
Can you give us a short draw length speed test? Somewhere between 25-27?
Don't they determine IBO without fletchings as well?
@@gfoster3434 Not sure. Either way, the measurable difference at that distance would probably be less than 1fps.
Ok just an idea. Can I buy the lift cams and put them on my phase four to accomplish the same thing?
Heck ya so excited to see someone put a 80lb mod on at 30 inches see some speeds!
Would you say if im at 29.5” draw length and i shot the 29.5 ata model it would still be much nicer on the draw cycle even just half in off the max setting, instead of maxed at 30 like you stated here?
Awesome job on the review. I would like to see a review on the Mathew’s Atlas. I know it’s not a flagship but 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
I wonder if the angle of the limbs at draw will make the let off % add more speed than a normal bows mod change.
I would love to see you review the Obsession vengance
