With Iron Maiden you don't just get a killer song...but a history lesson as well...and at 63, I've been a fan from the beginning...Enjoy this ride...Rock ON!!!
only a little younger than you mate, I was introduced to them as a friends older brother had an extra ticket to the World Slavery tour and invited me... hell of an introduction i will tell you..
Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden! They are incredible live: Hallowed Be Thy Name in Toronto, Fear of the Dark in Dortmund, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Dance of Death from the En Vivo tour, Phantom of the Opera at Donnington and the Clansman at Rock in Rio. All are epic - enjoy!
Little Bro, that was an absolute great reaction. It brought a flood of memories to my head thinking of hearing it myself as a youngster in the early 80's. Far to many folks who have never heard Iron Maiden think of them as being nothing more then just a hard and heavy group that makes loud noise. In actuality they are probably the greatest storytellers of all time and their music is like the amusement park ride that takes you through the story in a metaphysical form. You can thank them for leading me here and subscribing to your channel!
@@arminstojcsics6004 when they played it live, tour after tour, the tempo got faster, Adrian himself quit partly because of that, they (Maiden) just played songs faster and faster live, they lost the cadence...Hallowed is a dirge, a dirge needs to sound like it should be faster, but it drags on, hence, dirge
The Number Of The Beast was released in 1982. It was their 3rd album and 1st with Bruce Dickinson on vocals. I was introduced to Iron Maiden in 1984 when I was 9, by this album and specifically the song Run To The Hills. I've been a fan since. I have every studio and live album of theirs and some compilations. Been fortunate to see them 5X's. Number Of The Beast is a great album to start with.
Even before you started the song I told my wife, "It's always nice to see a conversion experience." Just wait until you get into the lyrics/storytelling, their stage presence and meeting Eddie!
When someone who's used to classic rock dips their toes into heavy metal for the first time, I always recommend Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. Good melodies, catchy rhythms, great vocalists and just great overall gateway bands. Maiden has several solid albums, but my top 3 are Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, and Piece of Mind.
Fellow metalhead, your reaction reminded me so much of myself. This was the very album that turned me into metal. A lifechanger. Up the irons and a wish for a most enjoyable Maiden voyage for you.
My young friend if you go down a heavy metal rabbit hole you won’t come back out. I went down in mine 44 years ago and I’m still there. This genre of music changed my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My two favorite Maiden albums are Number Of The Beast and Powerslave UP THE IRONS!!!🤘
They have a song called Rime Of The Ancient Mariner which is based on a poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. You should check it out. Maybe start with the first album, called Iron Maiden for an album reaction and work your way through at least the first 5 albums. They are all great. Original singer was Paul DiAnno. Number Of The Beast is my favorite but all of the first 5 are great imo. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner is on the 5th album, called Powerslave.
Your reaction is everybody's reaction. I saw them in '85 when I was 16 and again in 2022. They are brilliant with their talent and execution. Everyone of those f$%%^ers can play their instruments at a high level. Hail to the MAIDEN!
Welcome to the fold young man. Been a Maiden fan since '82. The song "Run to the Hills" got my attention back then, because of it's radio play. But that very song right there is what made me fall in love with Iron Maiden. UP THE IRONS!!🤘🤘
You can not tell the story of Metal without Iron Maiden. One of the greatest front men with the greatest voice backed by a band who were THE GIANT among giants back in the day! As you just proved their music is timeless. Great reaction🤜
Couldn't click on this fast enough. I knew our man here would lose his goddamn mind for this one haha. Silas seeing you play the air guitar on the chair makes this old man very happy
Welcome to the rabbit hole young man!!! IRON MAIDEN is the ultimate Heavy Metal band that still today has sell out worldwide stadium concerts up to one year before they have the show!!! The best experience is to witness their live concerts and I know that many here in your comments will recommend dozen upon dozens of masterpiece classic compositions that if I were to share my personal favorites, we will be over 50 compositions to just start with!!! Again young man, welcome to the universe of IRON MAIDEN, welcome to your new rabbit hole!!! "UP THE MIGHTY IRONS"!!! P.S., I loved your reaction to "HALLOWED BE THY NAME"!!!
Good reaction, Silas! The first 2 albums have a different lead singer, but hold a special place in my heart. Late 70's is when I first started listening to them as a teenager, and these guys exploded onto the scene along with Judas Priest and the Scorpions. BTW, this song is "Hallowed" be thy name, not "hollowed". Keep rockin'!
Imagine a 9 y.o. kid listening on a walkman on the rear seat of a car driving through the woods ... then it came "Powerslave" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" !!!! One my best experience in life ... I don't listen Iron Maiden anymore (or sometimes as a kid souvenir) but "Powerslave" album makes me what I am now ; a ckufin' rocker !!!
Good choice to start. This is my favorite Maiden song, but they have many bangers. They had a different singer on their first 2 albums. Lineup for this album (their 3rd): Bruce Dickinson - vocals Dave Murray - guitar Adrian Smith - guitar Steve Harris - bass Clive Burr - drums

iron maiden as 2 "most popular" album "number of the beast" that is the most "classical" of their album and "fear of th dark" that was the album of the "change"! Next like said someone before me many of maiden songs are linked to history like "run to the hill" on the america "war" against america indians or "acces hight" that is linked to a warplane pilot (english) from the world war but this song is a little diferent it's the story of a guy on death row that is questioning why he had to die like with the sentence "when the priest came to gave me the last rite" or "if there is a god why did he let's me go?"!
On a clear night, when the moon is full and the wind is just right, if you listen carefully you can still hear the note that Dickinson has been holding since 1983. You just opened the Metal door, young buck. Congratulations. Your life just got more interesting.
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Iron Maiden. Always have the lyrics pulled up so you can read along as you listen. Their catalog is huge, starting in the 1970's and they are still releasing albums even now. There are literally to many great songs to list. You could review Iron Maiden songs quite literally every day and not run out for a very long time. They did not tour in the U.S. in the 1970's but I have seen them in concert in every decade since, including last summer. Chris
It's only when I see the kids reacting to how good the music was when I was their age, that I remember how spoiled for choice we were for great music back then. Love your reaction kidda
If you do an album, POWERSLAVE was when they really hit their first peak. The first four albums are awesome, but POWERSLAVE was it for me, my senior year in high school, and the album cover made the most amazing poster which hung over my bed!
They were a five piece until the late 90s. Adrian Smith left for a bit, Janick Gers replaced him. When he came back they kept all three guitarists. Their first two albums had another vocalist named Paul Di'Anno who had a grittier type voice. "Number Of The Beast" "Piece Of Mind" and "Powerslave" were very popular. "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is good too. Their first two albums are their own kind of awesome with Di'Anno on vocals.
Saw the lads for the first time at the 1980 UK Reading Rock Festival. Almost 43 years ago. Can't believe it. We still called their music 'hard rock' at the time cuz the term 'heavy metal' hadn't been fully coined yet. Their album I like most is 1988's "Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son". But you can't go wrong with their releases between 1980 and 1988. Enjoy!
This one is from the third album "Number Of the beast" 1982. First album for the singer and only Dave Murray and Adrian Smith on guitars at the time. Janick Gers came in 1989 or 1990, replacing Adrien. Then Adrien came back and became a three guitar piece.
Maiden have been one of my favourite bands for maybe 25 years now. Absolutely incredible live, even today. Albums to check out: Number of the Beast #3 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son #7 Somewhere in Time #6 Powerslave #5 All the above are at the peak of the "classic" lineup (after Bruce joined, and before things started to go sour). That might sound unfair to Piece of Mind #4 - it's still a great album, just my least favourite from that period. Then after Bruce came back ("Modern Maiden", if you like): Brave New World #12 The Book of Souls #16 But ask another fan and you'll get a pretty different list ;) (Especially outisde the glory years of Number of the Beast through to Seventh Son, which are pretty universally acclaimed).
and the current lead singer has his pilot's license and has been flying the band's private jetliner for a decade. The first two albums had a different lead singer .... also awesome
If you are going to do a whole album by them, maybe start with LIVE AFTER DEATH. That way, not only will you get to hear how good they are as live performers, but also you will get to sample renditions of various songs from all their classic 80's albums.
Now you're slidin through my teenage years!! There's a reason they have 13 live albums...they're f*ing incredible live. LIVE AFTER DEATH is a double live album that is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Rime Of The Ancient Mariner from said album will prob break that chair for good. Be ready!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Silas I just remembered something about guitar bands in general and I remember commenting at some point you definitely to check out more Lynyrd Skynyrd, there is so much of it. And this in turn reminds me of Alice Cooper which was before metal that like hard rock in the early 70s and he's got some really famous hit but my favorite album of his and there are several favorite albums by the way, but it is Love It To Death. Everything on that album is fire. Hollywood be thy name is one of the songs, but apart from tackling the whole album which you may not want to do, check out a couple of the big hits from it but my favorite of all is called, long way to go. It was featured in the movie soundtrack to the world according to GARP where he is driving the babysitter home in his car in his station wagon actually, and he has it on classical jazz or something like that and she keeps reaching over and changing the station to a rock station which is playing this Alice Cooper song, long way to go. And after they fight over for a bit he decides to leave it on and then they Crank It Up really really loud it's a fantastic scene. But at any rate, and I know you would love it, it's just guitar-driven but also his voice is amazing and the band is super incredible, and the message of the song is great, everything about it and it even has his kind of more funky Hardrock part later in it. Although the whole song isn't really long at all. In fact I wish it were three times as long as that's how much I like it.
You should check out the version on their Live After Death album from 85. They slow down the intro a bit but then pick up the pace a bit on the rest of the song. And overall I think it sounds even better. As great as this track is, I love their live version even more.
This is where it all started for me. This album and Kiss Alive. Maybe check out Maiden's live album Live After Death, to get a good sample of their songs.
FYI, Iron Maiden's discography includes 3 vocalists, starting with Paul Di'Anno, which includes the first two albums (Iron Maiden and Killers), then Bruce for the majority of follow-up albums, other than one or two Blaze Bailey disks, which I honestly have not heard, so I can't say yay nor nay. They still tour to this day, promoting their latest album, and it's a long and amazing set covering most of their vast catalog, including one or two Di'Anno tunes. The first two are somewhat 'punk'ier', shorter, different vocal style, Paul is not as operatic as Bruce. but still great songs! Number, Piece, Seventh are great, love killers and Iron Maiden (S/T), and No Prayer for the dying, and fear of the dark are quite good too of their not-so-old stuff
Also Silas, there is a band that is around your age group called Liliac that does an amazing Iron Maiden cover of the Trooper, you should listen to both the original and their cover version. Great stuff, Rock On!🎸
I just saw these guys live for the third time in October, and they are as good as any other act out there. Check them out - you will not be disappointed!
Janick gers didn't actually play on this album.he didn't come in till much later.adrian smith took time out to do his own project, that's when janick stepped in.
Wow, I think I saw them on this tour or right around then because it was in the early 80s, and I was in college. I saw them at a relatively small arena in Kansas City and it was a fantastic show, and they had their big iconic floating head somehow come floating down the middle aisle of the arena and it was pretty dramatic, but they rocked really hard and it was a great show. I would also point out the band that opened up for them, Pantera. I think I like them even more than Iron Maiden but they were touring together for a reason, it really kind of fits. I think you should really really really really really really check out the Pantera song, "F*cking Hostile". It is also in this style and it rocks so damn hard and the message is fantastic, but unlike classic rock where I really advise against having the lyrics available on a first listen, you really have to with this because it just moves so fast, especially if you're not used to listening to metal. m.ruclips.net/video/Z2Oc3A92XVk/видео.html And no, the actual real title of the song does not have an asterisk in it, but since RUclips always presents it that way, that lets me know that they are uncomfortable with even one of the most common words in the English language, even when it's just in a song title, so to avoid any negative attraction of their attention to your channel, I'm doing it the p*ssy way. 😀
With Iron Maiden you don't just get a killer song...but a history lesson as well...and at 63, I've been a fan from the beginning...Enjoy this ride...Rock ON!!!
At 56 here my friend, completely agree AND us old heads are still head banging!!!

I've been there with ya since 81' UP THE IRONS.

It's great seeing someone listen to Maiden for the first time
The crazy thing is that they can perform this live, to perfection.
Damn skippy they can. Seen them do it live twice!

From this kid's reaction, REJOICE Everyone. For a metal head has just been born!!!!!
And so, a rocker is born.
Good son!
Follow the path!
Oh young Man, you MUST react to this song live!!! I suggest the RocknRio version as Bruce hold the last note an incredible 24 seconds 😊
Honestly like the studio version best, they always seem to quicken the pace live so that Bruce can barely sing it
@@m.ericwatson968what the hell are you talking about?

Best band on earth! No one composes and creates a song like mighty Maiden , they are unique in everything they do
now think of this played to a crowd of a hundred thousand or more singing and dancing along with them but you need to watch a live cut of them

Bruce Dickinson - vocals

Albums to check out:
Number of the Beast #3
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son #7
Somewhere in Time #6
Powerslave #5

Seventh Son of A Seventh Son is their best album.....in my opinion.
However their latest album Senjutsu (2021) is also a masterpiece
Agreed. They never topped Seventh Son.
Every. Damn. Album. Yes, even the blaze Bailey stuff... To an extent.
and the current lead singer has his pilot's license and has been flying the band's private jetliner for a decade. The first two albums had a different lead singer .... also awesome
What's amazing about this songs that Bruce Dixon is in does not get drowned out by the guitar lyrics

This is where it all started for me. This album and Kiss Alive. Maybe check out Maiden's live album Live After Death, to get a good sample of their songs.
Number of the beast was my first introduction and first album by Maiden I got into. Good stuff
Great stuff, Rock On!🎸
Silas I think you are ready for Black Sabbath and AC/DC Crazy Train or Back in Black
Check out thier first 5 albums in full
I just saw these guys live for the third time in October, and they are as good as any other act out there. Check them out - you will not be disappointed!
It's all good. Piece of mind, Number of the beast, Power slave, Somewhere in time.
Maiden is to be experienced live. For your next try Fear of the Dark from Rock in Rio 2001. You will not regret.
Janick gers didn't actually play on this album.he didn't come in till much later.adrian smith took time out to do his own project, that's when janick stepped in.
Iron Maiden is a great metal band! i would suggest as many live videos as you can.

And no, the actual real title of the song does not have an asterisk in it, but since RUclips always presents it that way, that lets me know that they are uncomfortable with even one of the most common words in the English language, even when it's just in a song title, so to avoid any negative attraction of their attention to your channel, I'm doing it the p*ssy way. 😀
Das ist Heavy Metal und das was du fühlst wenn du Iron Maiden hörst das ist Magie!!!!
