    Hi John
    Really really great review! Literally just bought one of these (ex bigsby) for my son. Cannot wait to get it or see his face! His first new guitar as a reward for 3 years of playing.....he is now 12.
    Just want to say thanks for all the videos and help over the years, you really feel like a friend!

    Looks and sounds very good, nice price point. It's impressive how set-neck semi-hollows are so affordable and well built nowadays. And I agree 100% on the abusing of effects.

    Totally agree about effects keeping to the golden rule which is less is more. Excellent demo obviously by a real expert not drenched in distortion. Well done.

    Nice review.......if you're feeling brave you can lower the height of the bigsby arm by holding the arm at the pivot point with one hand and bending it downward with the other hand. I did it on the chigsby I fitted to my tele copy. Works a treat and easier to grab when I need it.

    First off nice video. I have seen several reviews on these things lately. It sounds pretty much like what it costs. Seems to be the trend these days $150-$300 guitars that beat the socks off guitars that cost three times as much! WOW and resale value is$50 maybe. Your review was good kind of leaving it up to the viewer to decide.

      Good comment. I try to give a fair representation of the instruments I review and the unspoken qualification is always, 'For the money.,' this is what you get. I have to admit that I was never a fan of Gibsons, they always sounded too muddy for my ears so I find some of these copies quite refreshing.

    Thank you for the review. I purchased this guitar, right handed. Everything looks nice except the neck is too narrow, to my view. Still have not managed to pick a clean A7.

    Hi John,,fellow scot needing your advice,,,although both great guitars for the money ,which between the Hartwood and the Tanglewood semi acoustic you also reviewed has the best fret work,,ive seen few comments about sharp ends on the Hartwood ,,for me the bigger the frets the better,,Thanks in advance,George.

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  3 года назад

      The Hartwood was given to me by the supplier and I do not know if it was just off the top of the pile or whether it may have been breathed on before dispatch but the fretwork is fine. Of the two guitars the Tanglewood felt more better all round. I also reviewed a Quincy Vancouver, again another freebie and I would say it was the best of the three. ruclips.net/video/uR2aoAf6nVY/видео.html

    Thanks John. Bought one of these from Gear4Music but it shipped with the tremolo coil not fitted under the arm but put in the guitar lead bag. Is that normal? Am I expected to install the coil? Lord knows how to do that!

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  5 лет назад +2

      Yes it is a decent guitar. I also reviewed a Quincy Vancouver which is the same style without the tremolo unit. They are the same price and I found it to be the better of the two. ruclips.net/video/uR2aoAf6nVY/видео.html

    Just got my burnt orange model today, have to say the thing looks really good, the orange finish is semi transparent and very Gretsch like. Unfortunately I will probably be returning this guitar as the fret finish is abysmal, the ends really rip at your fingers. Also the 1st fret is way out , fouling both the e &b strings and to top it all, the nut seems to be way too high , the cowboy chords, C,F,D etc require finger shredding pressure to play. I may give gear4music a call tomorrow to check is this normal? I guess that a good guitar tech could set this up reasonably well, but for what it would cost in my area I could have used the money to buy an epiphone dot 335. I just love the colour so much, it’s a shame

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  4 года назад

      Over the years I have been given half a dozen guitars by various suppliers and I often wonder whether they send me one off the top of the pile or has it been, 'Breathed on?' It might be worth watching my review of the Quincy Vancouver, another 335 style axe. They cost about the same and everything on the guitar is 10% better than the Hartwood.
