Hey guys! A ton of you have been asking me to make videos about Shelly DuVall's Faerie Tale Theatre so here you go! There were 27 episodes made of this show all throughout the 80s and though I didn't have them growing up, they were part of a lot of people's childhoods. This video is about the first episode of the series based on the story of The Frog Prince. It stars Robin Williams as The Frog Prince himself and was written and directed by Eric Idle. This series is bizarre and hilarious and doesn't get talked about enough. This video is dedicated to everyone who grew up with this show and, of course, to Robin Williams.

I loved this show as a kid! I’m convinced that Robin Williams’ only direction for this episode was: “Okay, Robin, do your thing...but make it frog!”
Agreed and that's the best direction they could have given him. 💛 I just finished recording a video on the Cinderella episode of this show and I'm excited to post it!
Robin Williams acting when he got caught was the standout moment for me and I always think of it when people reminisce about what a great actor he was.
I was genuinely laughing while I was editing it. He was just so talented 💛
I'm still bummed people as a whole didn't ever give Shelly enough credit, for anything she did really- she is indeed an icon, at least in my world ❤️
She's just such a talented and lovely person. I hope she's having an amazing day 😊

This is very much Robin Williams giving it his all and successful at it. As usual. Also there is a lot of humor that I would never have gotten as a child but totally now.
Yes! I love that they let him do his own thing with it because there really was no one like him.
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but there is this similar show called Happily Ever After: Fairytales for Every Child. It basically tells classic fairy tails but from different cultures.

Holy crap that other king is rene auberjonios, the preacher in the mash film, star of deep space 9 and voice actor in countless stuff! This show is full of character actors!

@@AveryTalksAboutStuff He also apparently voiced Pepe le Pew in the Looney Tune Show making him possibly the first person of confirmed french decent to voice character. Anyone else remember the Looney Tunes Show.

It's Robin Williams subconsciously preparing for his role as the Genie.
Well, not really. But considering he nicknames Aladdin "Al", I had to make a reference.
Also funny you bring up "Les Poissons" from Little Mermaid because the guy who plays the king here voiced the chef. Rene Auberjonois (RIP)

I recognize Shelley Duvall as Olyve Oyl from Popeye. Thanks to Musical Hell, now I can't stop imagining Olyve Oyl's Faerie Tale Theatre.

I still miss Robin today. He's always been my favourite American actor and he was a great human being too!
He played Popeye in a live action movie and Shelley Duval was Olive Oyl, so they had already worked with each other from that movie. Even with a creepy frog mask on, he can make me laugh 🐸😂
Yeah he was one of a kind and I adored him. When he died, I cried for a week. But he lives on in his larger than life comedy like this. 💛

Also Fractured Fairytales is a series kind of like this and I believe Muppets also did Frog Prince. also that Muppet Fairy Tales video you did was advertised I think on the VHS for this as well
I remember I had this on a VHS tape that was recorded off TV before I was born.
I use to watch this in elementary school! dont remember this series much saddly but THIS episode with Robin Williams oddly is always the one I remember, just how much impact and rememberable he was.
He was a true icon and more importantly a total sweetheart. 💛 All the episodes are on RUclips if you want to go further down memory lane.

Yet another instance of Avery looking at something from my own childhood which up till now I thought might have just been a weird dream.
Meanwhile, while I don't think it was justifiable or at all funny how Shelley Duvall was treated in the production of The Shining, the sudden mental image of the Frog Prince's director also being a brutal, verbally abusive auteur, and this just being Shelley's bad luck, made me snort out a laugh and then feel guilty about it.
Yes, Shelly definitely has been through way too much in her life and it's amazing that after so much trauma on The Shining she was able to do something so creative and fun. Also, out of all the fever dream media we cover here this is one of the most fever dreamy and I love it. 😂
This episode of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre is like a crossover with Mrs. Doubtfire and Tootsie because it stars Robin Williams who did Mrs. Doubtfire and Teri Garr who did Tootsie.
This show had a great cast and I love it!
I actually remember this series. But forgot the name of it. This episode seemed pretty good. Thanks for the review Avery can't wait for the next one.

I love the idea of Olive oil giving birth to frog Popyeye..its funny to see her do this and that movie only to wind up being cast in a great Steven King adaption that nearly killed her and an awful Steven King adaptation that probably nearly caused her to kill it. Lol At least she can recite the classic childhood ryme of "Tommyknockers, Tommy knockers, knocking at your door" in her old straitjacket if she ever revives this show. I know people clown on her for not supposedly being attractive with her very unique and pronounced features but I always loved how emotional her eyes and mouth could be. It's a shame she wasn't in more children's or fantasy stuff. I think she was always amazing and never unattractive at all. Never knew this show existed before now so I'm very glad I do. Thanks. :)

This is gonna be a exciting watch of something i haven't seen before (rip Robin Williams), as for what I was doing, just finished all of Wicked Science S2, overall like I said it's very Jimmy Neutron & Round the Twist, then Ocean Girl S3 oh boy the finale, i thought it was good, certainly was a darker tone compared to the finales in the 2 series prior, S4 will probably be interesting to get through, watched Cybergirl's 1st 2 EPs after a long time waiting haven't watched it for nearly 20 years. Also more Dailymotion (boy that website again) finds with 2 New Zealand kids tv shows which btw short, Children of Fire Mountain & Maddigan's Quest (1979 & 2006) respectively, idk too much of these, so I'm adding them to the notepad to watch later. Also oh snap Jason and Neri in S4 ep 1, mentioned Mako (not Mako Island, but close enough), predicted the future for H20 a whole 9 years later, Jonathan M. Shiff how the heck did you do this lol. making v2 of Tabaluga & Blue Water High playlist due to vids private, maybe including some of the others, waiting for next the Australian tv show tho lol

@@AveryTalksAboutStuff people are right tho, Australian has some of the best tv shows (sometimes movies and at least a very neat wiki list of them unlike some where i could get a bit lost on a number of things), maybe even New Zealand, which is really sad to say that i rarely see or hear anyone talk about or do reaction commentary (usually the well known popular ones), reviews of any kind, some are also big elsewhere, but then that are popular in Australia and not much else.
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff you know what else is annoying about YT, you do a comment on a vid, discussion tab or live stream and when you refresh, the comment is here or not there in some cases, but the comment number doesn't go up, resulting people to not see it for some reason for them comment back and question/answer, just as bad the react heart being gone after just a edit on it like i did.

The Cramer guy also played Stanley the Janitor/kids show host in Weird all Yankovic's UHF. If you haven't seen it, you need to! It's a trip and right up your Alley. It was also recently free to watch on RUclips movies here so give it a look into for something funny the Kramer guy did that only ahs a BIT of racism in it. Also, another parody of Rambo..why are you reviewing things that make me think of so many of those..

I still am sad that so many (especially American) adaptations have the frog turn back when the princess kisses him, as opposed to throwing him against a wall, which does it in the Grimm version. Otherwise this was a very fun adaptation though, even if the reason for the frog's curse was feeling like Sleeping Beauty and we're missing the part where his servant comes back in the end and has iron bands around his chest from the grief that break now that the prince is human again (Actually, now that I think about it, great gay retelling potential)
Lol, this story was always wild. I do like how she wants to throw him out a window as a nod to the original where she yeets him into the wall.

The Frog Prince (1986) with Helen Hunt is a much better version in my opinion. It is similar to this one but much more fun and a much taller frog.
I've never seen that, I'll have to check it out. 😊
