I met Norman Brown one time & told him he plays George Benson better than George Benson. Someone tapped me on the shoulder, I turned around & it was George Benson....Norman Brown is a MONSTER musician.
Not hardly...they come from different backgrounds. Benson is more diverse with his traditional jazz and bebop skills. Brown is more urban neo soul with r&b style flavor. Benson is ridiculous in phrasing with Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy, McCoy Tyner and many other jazz greats don't disrespect George by saying Norman plays George better than himself that's ridiculous. Norman is ok but George is from another planet.
Try to listen to 60s or 70s George's records, he was way beyond any jazz guitar players (except Wes Mongomery in my opinion) technically and melodically. I had a honor to meet him once in Argentina in 1992 and he was a very very very humble man.
Just a smooth player with a great style of music, no one really has his style of music and he absolutely has the talent to bring it all together....Nice, Norman!!
Met this brother in1994 Bull Run Park Manassas Va (Jazz Fest). BIG FAN every since. Great human being and Great musician. One of the best of all times!!!!
... And so you're walking around this mall/expo hearing some awesome music and thinking "hey, whoever this is, they're doing a damn good Norman Brown impression. Hell if they stick with it they could maybe be as good as Norman one day!".... Then you get closer and closer and realize "HOLY SHIT... IT'S NORMAN BROWN!!!!!" Then you're in paradise.
+Roy Jiminez For Real:::;; Thats Norman Freakin The Man Brown . I'd be sitting on the floor at his feet praying he would drop a pick so I could pick it up for him .There is NO WAY I could carry on a conversation with NORMAN IN THE HOUSE !!!!!
The Colonel Its an AR580. Or at least the prototype for what became the AR580. (At this point, it was _going_ to be the Norman Brown signature model; his name is visible on the headstock here), but I’m not aware of however things changed after that point. Anyway, I have one just like it. Great guitar on every level, IMO.
Actually, it’s now their AR580 model, the one with these same inlays. The AR503 is similar in build but not cosmetically the same. I have the 580 and it’s a fantastic guitar.
This is the NAMM show. Every 10 feet there is another guy as good as Norman or better playing. There are thousands of monster players there all at the same time. No one has the time to stand slack jawed in front of every one of them. It's a business convention - not a concert.
@Notifidamncation Nope - reality. I've been many times, and good players are everywhere playing their butts off. It all blends into wallpaper. Darn shame, too.
Good reviews but hes not nearly the best...dont get me wrong hes great but the best?...his style is uniquely different from his contemporaries and he's fantastic playing his own style. Grammy award winner can't knock the guy but the best c'mon.
go and get the jazz guitarists you think are better and ask them to copy him and achieve the same tone, you will see what happens. i would be very surprised if he could not copy anything they do and make it sound far better.
Norman, please forgive the clueless around you at this event... We on YT appreciate you sharing your gift with us 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
This song introduced me to Norman Brown ... “ FANTASTIC “ ... !!!
Same for me back in 1994.
I always play this tune on a cool, rainy Saturday. It puts me in very relaxed mood.

That's classic. I imagine George looked at you over the top of his glasses and was like "Ahem ..."

Wow
i believe i wrote your words somewhere...Norman just took Maestro Benson to another level.both are outta this planet!

That dude created the song I’ll sing to my God when I see Him. Norman, thank you for existing…
So relaxing!!! Puts your mind at ease!!!

Unbelievable, The people walking around him absolutely clueless to know there's a master in their present. Wow..
It's a trade show, not a concert. This happens all day - it's like looking at wallpaper.
that's the same thing I said to myself: what's wrong with these people just milling around while Norman plays!
This around is "BIZNIS" people they not understand musik

The guitar player’s guitar player.
At the end😂

Who ever called him on the phone needs to be slapped. They interrupted the maestro.
But those unconscious people behind him…. Really??? A master is right there in front of you and you just don’t pay him no mind???😢😢😅

Sorry sir, Norman brown is the best Jazz guitarist alive. Name one better.
Norman is the best alive in this genre. Bar none. George Benson already conceded to Norman and he was the only competition in the past 40 years...
