This individual had spent their entire life feeling like a girl, like they’d gotten the wrong body at birth. As a young adult, this individual had cause to get some genetic testing done that revealed that SHE had XX chromosomes. Genetically, SHE was female. Her body DID NOT MATCH her genetic code, or her brain. Despite the extremely oversimplified version that we teach to 10 year olds (XY = penis = male), biological sex is complicated. There are a number of different variables (chromosomes, genital development, SRY gene, hormones) that do not always align. You don’t know what anyone else’s situation is. You don’t know what’s in their pants, what’s in their chromosomes, what’s in their genes, what’s in their hormones. So just call people whatever they ask to be called. Refusing to do so doesn’t make you right, it makes you a jerk.
