When I wired my shop in my new garage I spaced my outlets every 32”. I placed quad boxes at each location with separate circuits for the left and right outlets. This upgrade is relatively cheap and means I never needed a drop cord. It also meant I could run my table saw and dust collector at the same time without blowing a breaker.
Also, run 20 amp circuits and use pro grade outlets. Again a minor cost difference but the outlets will last longer.
You might consider doing the same.
Also I believe you need GFCI circuits. If so you could use GFCI circuit breakers.
Note I am not an electrician but I hired a friend who was and he shepherded me and answered questions. All was done with plans, permits and inspections so it was all up to code.

@21:55 the reason for the air intake is to have a closed loop. Using outside air -> burns it -> exhausts it. If yoru intake pulled shop air, it would cause reduce the air pressure in the shop, in turn sucking cold outside air into the shop through gaps in doors/windows/siding.

    • @TriDaddy
      @TriDaddy 7 месяцев назад

When you make your terminations in the panel, be sure to loop some extra wire. If you ever need to move brakers or replace the panel, you'll will want the extra legnth so you don't have to run new (longer) wires. You can still have your box look nice and clean. Many youtube videos will show you this if you neec examples. Wish I could post you a photo.

Cole as a fellow farmer I would really recommend getting a copy of the National Electrical Code. It will literally cover any questions you can ask like how many wires can fit into a conduit and what type, what gauge wire do you need to use, what you can put inside your breaker box... You've already finished the work probably but many things I've seen in the past couple videos have me getting that spidey-tingle of it not meeting the NEC book but I can't say what the code is from memory. DIY is great and can save cash and expand skills but always get it inspected (Here it is required by law for just about everything.)

An electrician will make sure that the lights come on, the wires don't burn in half or become heating elements over time, and that no one gets electrocuted a few years down the road by completing path to the ground ( Hint: your entire building is a ground ).
    But you do you.

Gas Lines use either Teflon tape or plumber's putty at it's joints. The sealant can break the metal to metal contact needed to maintain a good ground potential it's entire length. Best not to use it as a ground source any higher than where you've placed the pipes ground line (#2 wire) to ground rod.

Electric code specifies how many conductors of what size you can place in a conduit. Also what size junction boxes you need based on number and size of wires. You wouldn't pass inspection with what you have, but no permit, no inspection.....

The ceiling junction boxes have to many connection in them and wires. We always just ran one ground, one neutral and then a few hots wires. Not a ground and neutral for each circuit.

How does that heater vent out? Carbon monoxide is real. I have no clue about that heater but you might invest in some co detectors..
Might be healthy to get an electrician out to just do a final inspection and also check your wire temperatures with an ir camera. They can also tell you if you messed up vs code anywhere. A couple hours paid to an electrician isn't that expensive comparatively.

I spent my entire career working for a company that was devoted to public safety. Wiring / electricity is NOT something that an inexperienced person should be doing. Especially when gas is involved. The bins are so unsafe … now this building. Come on Cole. You’re a smart guy … start acting like it.

You spent a lifetime building up fear in yourself. Running circuits is extremely simple and had pretty foolproof safety measures. An electrician is without question the simplest trade to be part of ….pretty diy safe and he did a great job

Really he's not. He does very dumb stuff all the time and so far he's gotten lucky. Nothing happens, so we get a veiled condescending video about how people told him it was wrong but it's all working ok. That'll keep happening until it doesn't, then it'll be too late.

@@FuenteSmoker it’s 110v no one is dying , nothing Is burning ! Ask a residential electrician to wire a relay ….they generally struggle and wire poke the way he is!

@@FuenteSmoker that’s the farm way! I grew up on a farm, your profit margin is already so slim, if he was to bring in a professional for everything, they would go broke, or prices would have to go up even higher. He should keep doing it, learning, and also researching proper ways like buying uglies electrical guide, rather than watching RUclips videos. Every code and answer is right there for the grabbing , including pulling rather than pushing wire. Using proper conduit size, keeping to the right amount of allowable wire in each conduit without having to derate a circuit. That offset he pulled into the panel , all those 12awg thhn are now DeRated from 20 amp to 15 or 10 because there are so many in 1 conduit. There’s a reason electrical IS authorized for the howmeowner to do themselves, it’s easy! Just research and ask licensed electricians. If I recall he has a friend who is an electrician.

Hey, it’s easy to criticize imperfections from your lounge chair.
I’m gonna say Cole congratulations it was a difficult job that needed to be done for 18 years. You did the work yourself, you learned some new skills, you saved your farm thousands of dollars. You can’t expect it to be perfect the first time and you can go back and work out the corrections later. Thanks for sharing.

Having a 4" intake and exhaust piping helps keep the airflow what they want. Each bend coming into the building or exiting reduces the airflow. So oversizing to 4" instead of the 3" opening will offset the bends.

You mentioned that a contactor is like a breaker......only in that it is a switch, which would have been a better analogy :-) A breaker is a safety device that will trip depending on the current/t. A contactor is just a heavy duty switch

i was nervous having you and your friend do the electrical work yourself. If I were you, I would pay to have a licensed electrician just come out and review it to make sure it is safe and won't cause any problems, now or in the future.

Your State requires you get a permit to perform electrical work. It would be inspected and in this case failed for multiple points. All cables entering panel to have restraints, auxiliary equipment not allowed inside of panel enclosure, grounding bar to be isolated from neutral bar, interior cover plate, conduit and outlet box fill rate, use of GFCI, possibly more violations per local codes and NEC Requirements. Many insurance companies will refuse to cover death or destruction from unauthorized electrical installation. This is also true for Gas Pipe installations.

Run 3/4" conduit to the other side of the shop. 1/2" is good for a single circuit like to a clock or refrigerator where you will never add anything else. Do not use utility boxes for the outlets , use 4" sq boxes, and yes you will need to break off the ears to mount them, they attach to the cover. With a 4" sq box you can put on a quad outlet (double duplex) or an outlet and a switch.
