I love this discussion! Over the last 8 years I have been on a journey of discovering the learning pattern of the Lord. We have discovered that the best way to homeschool our children is labeled “unschooling”, but in reality it is bringing the Spirit into our home in full force and allowing our kids to learn through the Spirit, and not what I think they are supposed to learn.
We know that Joseph Smith had an amazing amount of knowledge by the time he died, and it came through God. He is the supreme Educator.

I’d love to hear more about your homeschooling journey…I’ve been homeschooling my five kids for four years and I feel I am being pulled into the “unschooling” direction. What does that look like for you?

@@CN-pe4gz We are always teaching. We always take time to answer questions they have. We read A LOT. We have built a decent sized library for them to access knowledge on their own as well. We are all naturally inquisitive, and we nurture that in them and try to help them have experiences that will help them connect with the Spirit and know what that feels like.
We have a routine, not a schedule. We study scriptures in the morning and the evening, prayer often throughout the day, and we try to follow whatever promptings we feel. We are certainly far from perfect, but we are still working at learning and using Heavenly Father’s model for learning.

I had my condensed wilderness starting in 2020, it was one trial after another. So I feel this too. It was intense but I do look back and think it was my trial by fire. I don’t know if I could say I’d do it again, but I am grateful for the change in my heart because of it.

Fasting is amazing! I also am a food addict. Fasting gets me back in track and has so many spiritual and physical benefits! It’s like a muscle that with more practice it becomes stronger.

Beautiful conversation. I’ve never loved the gospel more than I do now that I’m putting my trust in the Lord to teach me the scriptures and to guide me to the resources that enhance that study. Megan, why do you think so many people are scared that digging into the mysteries of God will lead them away from the church or even to really dark paths?

Great podcast! Interesting to me that I just happened to listen to this podcast as I started an extended fast and one of the things I am fasting for is too learn the truth about polygamy, and whether or not it came from God.

I’m so glad to hear someone else say they don’t trust the footnotes or headings. I had the same experience as I was studying Isaiah in both the Old Testament and the BOM. The footnotes would attribute the scripture to Jesus when that felt off and I too realized it was a separate person. Wonderful episode! Sharing this one for sure.

Wow! I learned so much from this discussion! I am going through a change in callings right now, leaving a calling that I absolutely love and am not ready to give up, and accepting another calling that also requires great responsibility. The spirit whispered many comforting thoughts to me while listening to this presentation. Thank you so much! I will be listening again.

As i study, I'm often given impressions of how much of the plain and precious truths have been removed. Satan has playef the long game and used many situations over time to exploit the weakness of those who have had their hands in our ancient scriptures. As i go to the temple, i too feel impressed that our mother in heaven is far more in the operations of our first and second estate experiences, right along side of Father in Heaven, and our Savior Jesus Christ.

I’m not LDS but it’s interesting that LDS culture seems to put a premium on financial success. 1/2 my wife’s LDS family left to become JW. I’ve learned JW’s have the opposite mindset. They discourage focusing on money and financial success. I do think the JW plan is too extreme. But, I’ve seen firsthand how obsession with money destroys families.

These are interesting observations. While I can’t speak for Shane, I’d say culturally you’re quite right. Personally, I believe it’s important to disconnect from the love of money and materialistic measures of success. God gravitates to the poor, meek and lowly. We cultivate that attitude as we abase ourselves in service of others, as Christ did.

@@lddisciplespodcast yeah. That’s partially why they left LDS and converted to JW. They believe that Jesus would absolutely not agree with the push for financial success even if in the end you use that money to help the needy. Again I don’t subscribe to that mindset but it’s an interesting discussion.

How nice that he had a lovely experience giving away his money. Did he make the Million dollars legally? I’d love to hear his ex wife’s story What was she living off of while he was incarcerated? What did he do to become incarcerated? Did he rip anybody off? Did he make restitution ? More questions than answers

I did make that million dollars legally. I bought and sold some real estate to make the money totally legal. My ex wife had support from my parents and hers. It was a struggle for everyone. Fortunately I have been blessed to pay my criminal restitution. I am now also in a position to pay her more than I am required to take care of her and our children. I went to prison on financial crimes called securities fraud. thanks for the comment.

I'm in Idaho Falls. I got wrongfully arrested and violated by the police and the trauma from it had caused me a world of pain. Just hearing some other member served time helps me lift the shame a little. I'm really lost and alone and angry spiritually right now
