No Mary, he didn’t use powers to change the scroll into a cookie….he imagined the scroll was an almond cookie to motivate himself to get up there quickly lol
@Frogger They’re referring to 28:40 where Mary says that Po changed the scroll. You may understand Po imagined it, but Mary misunderstood and they were informing her of that.
I always found it pretty clever that the Dragon Warrior was made a Panda since the “Way of the Dragon” Martial Arts all about redirecting your opponents energy and attacks back at them and against them Fun fact: Originally Po was made be to be cocky and arrogant being the Dragon Warrior but Jack Black (Po’s Voice Actor) made the staff change that
It works so well. It’s much better for Po to be an excitable and passionate fan of kung-fu and it’s history, and makes his journey that much more compelling for us.
I'm glad. Part of Po's charm is how one minute he's so respectful of kung fu, and then the next he goes total fanboy. (even in later movies, where he's already a famous fighter himself...but still remains a fanboy. xD)
Each of the Furious Five represents a style of Kung-Fu that correlates to their species. Mantis Style, Viper Style, Crane Style, Monkey Style, and Tiger Style. Each form has its own strengths and weaknesses, so they depend on each other to cover said weaknesses. Po didn't fit with any of them, so he had to find his own unique style. You can actually see that he has impeccable balance and steady hands when he's cooking since that's his motivation and it's all he's known since he was a cub. Pretty much literally Miyagi-style training via life experiences. I also really appreciate that they didn't change Po's physique at all, even after the training. Yeah, pandas are chonky, but it sends a good message that you can be fluffy and still be strong. It actually came in really handy as a defense against the pressure point technique. I definitely recommend watching the Secrets of the Furious Five featurette as well as the main series. It gives so much backstory to them.
Now that I think about it po really only lacked power speed and technique, he has insane everything else (balance, steady hands, flexibility if he's mitivated enough, creativity and talent)
It really takes the customs and traditions of martial arts to heart and pays homage to it with a lot of respect. From what I understand this movie is a pretty big hit in Asia.
The scroll didn't actually change, Poe just *imagined* it as an almond cookie to give himself incentive. A nice touch (amongst nice touches) is that the scroll reflects Poe's face when he looks at it, but Tai Lung holds it at an angle that doesn't reflect his - so "it's just you" reflects...nothing. Now you have to watch two and three. Amazingly, unlike a lot of series, it actually gets better as it goes.
yeah when Tai Lung looks straight at the scroll, at his reflection, he says "It's nothing" He can't tolerate Po's answer of "it's just you" because he doesn't see himself at all
Interestingly enough Shifu committed the same act with The Furious Five that he did with Ti Lung. He once again assumed that someone he'd been training would be the Dragon Warrior. Oogway stated that he didn't know who the Dragon Warrior would be but Shifu refused to acknowledge that it was probably an individual they didn't know
3 words. "Illusion of control." I think it's safe to say that that right there was Shifu's fatal flaw. And the ultimate source of nearly every issue we see he has. Even in the incredibly little we know about his life it keeps popping up. All the way down to believing one of his students would be the Dragon Warrior. In conclusion, is Oogway the perfection of the wise old teacher archetype personified or what?
This movie helped me see the light in the meaning of life... "There are no accidents," "The illusion of control," "There is no secret ingredient." But all three movies have messages to different parts of the whole. Mind, Body, and Soul. To invoke Alan Watts, "The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain, so obvious, and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves." There are other movie with great messages: Phenomenon (1996), Powder (1995), Robots (2005), Short Circuit (1985).
I had this friend a while back who worked with children being adopted into their new families, and she would always make a point of telling the new parents to watch this movie with the child. Particularly when the parents and their adopted kid are of different races. She did so because they could then point to a duck being a panda's father and saying it's okay and normal for parents and children to look different. I always thought that was really sweet.
Tai Lung is actually one of the more relatable villains that you feel sympathy for. His whole life Sifu put these dreams and aspersions of becoming the Dragon Warrior into his head basically setting him up for failure. Tai Lung is the perfect example of what can happen when you carry the weight of expectations of others.
Kung fu panda one of my favorite DreamWorks movie, I couldn’t wait for it to come to film and it was starting my favorite actor jack black. Jack Black has done many funny and family friendly films that made me laugh and always excited to see . Kung fu panda was no different and so many other actors were in this film such as Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman,Seth Rogen, and David Cross.
I've always loved the difference between Tai Lung and Po seeing their reflections in the Dragon Scroll. Po says "It's blank", implying that he understands that he still has a lot to learn. Tai Lung says "It's nothing", implying that despite all his training he has learned nothing.
If Tai lung understood what it meant he could've become invincible.. i guess he saw nothing because he already knows everything.. except for the chi mastery
3:40 “one often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it”. the only reason Tai Lung escaped was cuz of the feather from the duck that Shifu sent to warn the prison
Fun Facts: Po's father is voiced by James Hong, he played the villainous Lo Pan from "Big Trouble in Little China". Lucy Liu is the only member of the film cast to reprise her role in the TV series. A lot of people call this film *underrated* but it was a huge hit when it came out. Even in China, it was well celebrated; not just for the respect it pays to the culture but to Chinese filmmaking. You'll love the sequels!
The reason why Po has a greater chance against his opponents is because he basically doesn’t take any damage, and he can give it back with force from his body. Mix that with some training, and he’s essentially a walking tank.
Another interesting moment about the movie. When Po meets with Oogway below the Sacred Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, we are told that Po eats when he is upset. When he is sad, he is hungry. And by the time of that final lesson with Master Shifu he proclaims: "I'm not hungry.". He is content with who he is at the moment. He is no longer sad.
This movie is so underrated, one of the best animated films from Dreamworks. The story, art direction, the music, the cast, the messages in the movie, people don't give it the respect it should have.
I literally used to comment below every video that please watch the kung fu panda trilogy I thought she never will well here we are thank you very much

They want to get this secret ingredient to be able to succeed / the special secret ingredient is the only thing drives them. Or maybe you have to be "special" or only special people can truly succeed, but in reality, there is no such thing. The only thing standing between you and your goal is you yourself. If this makes any sense. XD
Hey, I know what kind of animal is from that movie. Po is a Giant Panda Master Shifu is a Red Panda Tigress is a South China Tiger Monkey is a Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey Viper is a Green Tree Snake And Tai Lung is a Snow Leopard
the song Kung-Fu Fighting came out in the early 70's. we were kids, "fighting" when this song played... then we would go and watch the next Bruce Lee movie.
So a random fact is that Shefu is a red panda. If you know about red pandas, you know that they are small and very energetic animals, they are basically the exact opposite of normal pandas, its one of the reasons Shefu had such a hard time training Po and not liking him in the start
This movie is supposed to be funny, but I seriously always almost cry when you realize the message of the movie is just to be yourself, all you need to do is believe your enough. Such a dope message. Wait for the second movie though, then you’ll cry actual tears.
One of my all-time favourite childhood movies, my brothers and I used to have entire scenes memorized and we would act them out. :') Also, what happened with Tai Lung was tragic. Wish they dived a little deeper into his story, because I never hated him as a character.
Just FYI, Po's nemesis is Tai Lung (太龍,simplified 太龙 pinyin tai4long2) meaning Great Dragon. He is a snow leopard. Shifu (師傅, s. 师傅 p. shi1fu) means master. He's a red panda.
