"A good Transformers movie is there. They just refuse to make one, and by the time they do audiences might not want it anymore." How did this man predict Transformers One?
Wait, people hate Shia in Transformers now? He's the most realistic depiction of a regular wimpy guy witnessing transforming robot monsters in real life. You'd go fucking insane if one day you saw your car transform into a freaking robot. Don't lie.
Not even a robot, an alien species. With others of that same species who want to kill you. I thought Shia was perfect and entertaining. In my opinion hes the OG
I didn’t like Sam as a character, but Shia’s performance nailed it. The home scene in TF1 is so perfect, Shia truly captured what it would be like to have an awkward interaction with your parents while trying to use 20+ foot tall alien machines. I personally think Simmons and Lennox are way better characters, who should serve as a hallmark for live action transformers characters, but it’s not like Shia did a bad job. I actually felt bad for him in DOTM.
I’m going to drop a hot take, Sam Whitwicky is fucking hilarious and I stand by that. Shia laboeuf killed that shit. To this day I buckle over laughing at some of his scenes.
Calling this move Rise of the Beast and having Cheetor and Rhinox say combined total of 4 words between them the enitre run time is questionable writing and direction to say the least lol
Exactly. I don’t think rhinox spoke ONCE. This movie was definitely chopped up and confused and just bait for fans. They put up this facade that it’s a love letter to g1 and beast wars fans, but nope it’s just a dumb action movie for casual movie goers.
I liked Shia Lebeouf in Transformers. He set the bar and was really engaging with the CGI bots. He help us fall in love with bumblebee, they had the best dynamic together.
Eh I just couldn’t find him enjoyable. As someone who grew up loving the films, all I wanted was for Sam to shut up and let the more interesting characters like Lennox and Epps take the center focus. Or, you know, make the Transformers the main fucking characters and not some whiny teenager. I also don’t get how he was “engaging with the CGI bots”. He barely talks to any of them besides Optimus Prime or Bumblebee, and even then he’s mostly bitching at them about his current situation or yelling for them to help. Charlie in Bumblebee at least asked some questions about Bumblebee himself and seemed interested in getting to know him, you know, like a prospective friend would. Sam never seemed to want to get to know the Autobots as friends. If it weren’t for the world-ending events coming back to fuck up his life, he wouldn’t go out of his way to think about them, let alone spend time with them.
@@SonicHedgehog1991Fair enough. Though I do think Noah was just a tiny bit more helpful considering he was given the ability to actually go toe-to-toe with the Terrorcons.
Wouldn’t say that, just more like underestimated intern pulled along to translate Peruvian isn’t too hard of a pull if we take account how little of a life outside of work people can have
It's not just the black teenage girl, it's the Mary Sue character that you have any issue with. They never build them up in movies there just geniuses because the writers said so. They show you nothing and earn none of your trust, but there smarter and better then everyone else around them. Trope is super old now.
Would love too see an entire movie on cybertron, with ZERO human interaction, because at this point the human part is corny af, like, extend the first part of the bubble bee movie to a full length film, where we don’t see earth and see how Optimus forgoes the troubles on his planet, but that’ll never happen lol
You just don’t get it. Not every film has to be Endgame. Where’s your big budget movie? Why are you even criticising a kids film? You’re just hating it for clicks. Art is subjective anyway. Your hair is blue.
@@thenigerundayooooguy2752how about makiing a movie with cgi charavters purely made of pieces trying to look real asf, with better effects than most movies. Now people bitcj about noah being black (helena does suck ngl, vut she barely is in the movie talking). They have g1 designs, they bitch about optimus having a charavter development that makes sense. Transformers Prime showed the true potential of the Transformers franchise, being almost unmatched in its storytelling, characters, designs, etc. It even managed to have fairly likeable human characters, whilst still mainly focusing on the Autobots and Decepticons.
@@gijane2cantwaittoseeyou203 I can agree that the first few episodes aren't the best, but the quality increases *dramatically* from then onwards, with the human characters being focused on less but still involved enough for them to have reason to exist. Hell, in the second season, they're even able to infiltrate the *Nemesis* and take out a major key player in the third season, with both happening in ways that feel satisfying and well-earned.
Season 1 of Transformers Prime could be its own movie tbh. Megatron raising an undead Cybertronian army to invade Earth sounds awesome and terrifying af
I’m genuinely baffled about how we went from The Bumblebee Movie to this. The film set up a new art style, aesthetic, storyline, and themes, and all they had to do was follow the groundwork, but nooooooo.
It's because they changed the cgi studio from ILM to some weak ass cgi studio All transformers movies cgi till transformers 5 was done by ILM , even Ironman 1-2-3 and Dr strange is done by ILM they are unmatched by anyone
I think they did great. It’s wonky at times but I got so hyped seeing Optimus’s transform and the other bots transform. The storyline from bumblebee was meant to serve as the first step into the bigger picture which I think this movie is doing pretty well. It’s not a masterpiece but I think with the new director, cgi studio, and script. It was still great to see all the development. Just because it’s new doesn’t always mean it’s bad
Yeah with the art style from G1 transformers I feel like the bumblebee movie was definitely headed in the right direction. This movie(after seeing it) was misleading. It was barely even about the beasts
The CGI is fine, the only time it messes up is when noah is clearly green screened into a shot. Actually now that i think about I don’t think that is CGI.
Something I wanna add, transformers isn’t just an 80s cartoon. It’s been going on since then with several reboots before the 2007 movie, prime has been a long nose semi truck twice (G2 and Armada) and had a dark side before (Armada) Ironhides been a truck as well (rid2001 and energon) and also a hardened veteran (beast wars ii and neo) and the list just goes on, the first trilogy had so many references to previous media but every time I see someone make a video regarding the movies they push this narrative that transformers is just a franchise from the 80’s that just happened to appear 2 decades later in theaters when that’s just not the case
When Bee died again, half the audience started laughing, including myself burst out laughing. This film was truly hilarious as it falls apart if you think about any part of the plot.
This doesnt feel like michael bay at all. The action is completely different and more underwhelming. This movie did all they could to hide the transormatiojs whenever possible by making them last 2 seconds, performing the transformation behind object or litterally cutting away from them. The transformations from the first movie in 2007 are better than this movie
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 You know, there´s a theory that he ripped off the real face of Bumblebee in the Bayverse, and that´s why Bee seems to have no eyelids and exposed inner face circuitry.
I have a problem with how people react to violent Optimus Prime. I actually like the bay films including violent prime, but for years people have been complaining about how awful violent Optimus Prime is in the bay movies. With ROTB however, now everyone says that it’s so cool and awesome how Optimus prime acts, now it’s suddenly cool for him to brutally kill the main villain because scourge hurt bumblebee. Sentinel, Megatron, and the Fallen being brutalized for attempted genocide however? Too brutal, too uncalled for and blood-thirsty. Also I dislike how they made Optimus mean to the humans in this movie.
I find it strange how they intended for Knightverse Optimus to be closer in character to his G1 counterpart, and yet here he is considering humans as insects. That is further from G1 than even Bayverse Optimus.
I was personally at that TFCON when Cullen pretty much shat on Bay and his crew's decision to character assassinate the core that made Optimus likeable. I made his day by giving him an artwork of G1 Prime saying one of his classic lines. He was about to give me back the artwork as he was about to sign it, but I told him it was for him to keep. He just took a pic of me and my son together with him, and that's all I could ever ask for. He was grateful that us og fans respect the legacy he made. Because regardless what hacks like Bay do to Optimus, us fans know the heart of Optimus will and always be Cullen.
Did you saw the Bumblebee movie? He's very emotional, the characters are charming and likable, the action is fun; Bumblebee's uses his environment to fight the villains which is cool. Throwing a metal chariot at them or destroying them with chains was smart 😀His friendship with the heroine is cute plus she as an arc. At the begining, the teenager is affraid of diving because the last time she did it it was thank's to her father; she dive at the end to rescue Bumblebee, it was brave and so kind of her! Also, not every people were evil in the government or the army; Jonh cena`s character for exemple. At first he chased Bee and tries to kill him but saw him risking his life to save Earth and salute him after the battle. He learns that not all robots are evil, a nice arc for him like for the heroine. You should watch it if you haven't yet!
@@bouncyblight2001the hell are you on? Rotb has one of the most boring fights, it wasn't fast, and intense as Bayformers despite the fact that rotb had smaller transformers
@@YakouHikoichi oh ok, I guess if you look past all the shaky cameras and explosions as well as the over complicated designs of the transformers that just look like 3 soda cans crashing into each other in slow mo I guess there’s SOME choreography lol. Every fight in Bayformers resulted in someone dying which is a waste of potentially good characters. Do you think the transformers in Bayverse have better character despite the movies focusing on humans 85% of the time? Michael Bay turned almost every transformer into a mindless killing machine and nothing more
@@bouncyblight2001 gotta love how you complain that most bayverse characters are wasted characters, when rhinox didn't even get to talk in rotb, and cheetor having 2 minutes of screentime, I get that Bayformers assassinated Optimus prime character, and most other characters, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the maximals in rotb are irrelevant, why even call it rise of the beast, when most of the maximals are off screen? Wheelie is one of the most useless character in Bayformers, yet he has more screentime and dialogue than cheetor and rhinox. Other than that, the plot is also messy, many characters in rotb didn't even get the time to fleshed out their characters, Bayformers has already established skids and mudflap personality without taking up to 10 minutes of screentime. Rotb wasted alot of characters, even if it's for the character development throughout the movie, that doesn't excuse the fact that other maximals are basically nostalgia bait
@@YakouHikoichi that is true but it’s not like they all died, except air razor. You do realize that this movie is the first of a trilogy right? When I think of how many characters that are introduced in Bayverse only to die in the same movie I’m actually grateful that only one character died in ROTB. Also who’s to say we won’t get a prequel that takes place on the Maximals home planet that revolves around the conflict between maximals and predacons? Plus there’s 13 transformer characters, only one was established in a solo movie, along with 3 main human characters so yes wasted characters are to be expected, but again, they can appear in future films since they weren’t killed off for an action scene
I am baffled, absolutely baffled, that they did not bring back Hailee Steinfeld for this movie. Its really glaring. She was one of the reasons why Bumblebee even worked in the first place. To have a two-time Oscar nominated, young actress in your arsenal and not bring her back seems like a mistake to me.
I respectfully disagree, I thought the film was good. Mainly because of noah and mirage's relationship was wholesome and also noah was a nice character, you knew what he was going through and was easy to sympathize with. You also have the warp key not only being a muguffin but also being used for Noah's and optimus's development of them not only fighting to just save their on race but fighting for each other as well. Not saying the film is perfect I agree with your criticisms of the maximals, they should been in the film longer or at least increased the runtime. Personally thought id give it a 10/10, but objectively its a 6/10 at best. Watching people start arguments over your opinion in the comments is hilarious. Nice vid
All the characters were barely developed, I couldn’t sympathize with any of em. I did like mirage but the relationship he had with noah could’ve also been more developed
@@viaaasm I agree, but they made up for it in how their personalities shined, mirage is upbeat, arcee takes what she does seriously but without being up tight, bumblebee's innocence, wheeljack carefree nature and optimus's stoicism. I honestly would have switched the girl out for Noah's brother at least there would have been some connection.
@@maxfordgaming9278but well, it’s a turn in the right direction for now. Foremost transformers live action has been for its action flick, and it’s hard to need to see a change in that formula. @@maxfordgaming9278 Yeah all the autobots had very enjoyable personalities, many of the maximals not only didn’t have dialogue, but the ones that did all displayed the same “serious” and lifeless personality, I get they’re like kinda traumatized, but that doesn’t mean they literally have to sound like they don’t get paid enough to show emotions. That cheetah looked really cool I was so disappointed with the amount of screen time he had
Optimus being a giant asshole is what kills it for me. And it sucks that even Peter Cullen has to voice his displeasure and still gets ignored. He's 81, he ain't gonna play this character forever... They better give him a redemption before he retires/dies.
He litterly has a charachter ark in this he feels bad for bringing the autobots to earth he can´t save his home he wants to go back home and he later sees the goodness in humenety that changes him in the prime we love olso cus noah is like him what are you saying
@Nitroplays Right... That's the _intent_ of what they're going for, and in a literal sense that's what happens in the movie. But he sucks as a character. All his speeches come across super phoney and fake when it comes just moments after he brutally executes his enemies with no remorse. He's positioned to be a noble leader, yet lacks nobility. Committing war crimes left and right, ripping heads off spines and all, showing little to no compassion for anyone or anything... Sure he "cares" about humans, until he suddenly doesn't again by the next movie, and then he has to go through his "arc" all over again. It's just bad writing at this point. Optimus can be SOOO much better as a character... But judging by your avatar, I'm not gonna change your mind on that.

@@NathanDrakeTheGreat Yeah, while I did enjoy the movie, they definitely needed more time with Optimus Prime to show his character ark more properly. From what I’m hearing, the cut sequence where Optimus fights Transit would help further give reasoning for Optimus’ attitude in the film. And we’re supposed to get it as a blu-Ray extra, so we’ll see how it goes. Honestly, I’d say the film’s biggest flaw was that it needed more run time to further explore some of the Transformers characters, especially in the middle part with the Maximals.
I always hate the excuse people use of......"oh they are just giant robots".........."oh they are just superheroes" the stuff isn't supposed to be taken seriously, it's just a fun turn off your brain movie. Yea that's fine the first couple of times. After 10 years of that and every franchise being almost the same now, it gets boring and is such a lazy excuse. Funny how these movies just like superhero movies can barely make it to 1 Billion nowadays.
It was definitely generic, but bad (as in a story that doesn’t make sense)? yes. However, as a product meant to fulfill the purpose of entertaining someone who wanted to watch a blockbuster, where things go boom and robots mostly take the spot light, and where they don’t think about the story too much, it definitely is good. If I had to rank my top 3 fav live action movies. It would go Bumblebutt, dark of the moon (or AoE haven’t decided), and RoTB.
My main problem with this film is that it’s basically about fighting space satan. The next few movies are going to about conventional warfare. Like imagine being bumblebee and Optimus prime tells you “okay, we just beat space satan, back to conventional warfare.”
Yeah, and it makes perfect sense. They delayed Unicron's arrival, meanwhile the Decepticons are still an active threat and Cybertron is still conquered by Decepticons.
Being such a big fan of Beast Wars as a kid I was so dissappointed with the Maximals, barely showed them maximize and you would think Optimus Primal would be the one to beat scourge since he killed his mentor.
i agree the movie isn't that good, but i don't think its bad. Also, these do not look like bay's movies AT ALL. Bay actually understood that the transformers are supposed to be large in scale and move with weight. He knew how to film in a way that helped the transformers be grounded in reality.
@@dkkanofkash8798 Bumblebee at least had decent human characters, though, unlike this one. Also, why are we spending 1/3 of the movie on humans? I don´t go to a Justice League movie to watch Alfred and Lois Lane, so why would I go to a Transformers movie for their worse equivalent?

@@danielmedela8725 Okay, THAT I agree with. If a Transformers movie is better than Rise of the Beasts, doing what ROTB did right and avoiding what ROTB did wrong, I will only be happier. Paramount needs to learn that combining several Transformers movie scripts into one does not have good consequences. That’s what happened with TLK and ROTB.
Unicron was the Earth in TLK and would have destroyed the planet if he were to transform, which would mean that in the next movie after TLK humanity and the Autobots would have to live on Cybertron or another planet as their new home. The Autobots and the humans would also possibly battle Unicron in space which means that this could have been the space themed Transformers movie. Sadly TF6 was cancelled along with the rest of the Bayverse.
When you realize transformers rise of the beasts is a different timeline I mean that’s my theory, it’s obviously not the bay verse because it doesn’t add up at all, the robot sizes are different. So it’s a different time line
Also, the timeline doesn’t even add up to transformers the last nights Stupid, poopy timline it takes place in the past, but the transformers in the last knight timeline weren’t on earth. Also, in bayverse unicorn is earth.
I have to agree with you. There are things in this movie that felt off to me. Like, Scourge suddenly has Battletrap and Nightbird to accompany him in his mission on Earth when we saw in the intro that he didn't need henchmen to help him, as he could clap his enemies by himself with ease. They also barely did anything. Battletrap couldn't even hit some mere human with his minigun when he's an advanced alien robot, and then he just gets killed quickly in the end battle. Nightbird didn't even do much or have much screen time and she got dispatched by Bee easily in the end. Don't get me started on how they wasted the maximals. They didn't even give Airrazor a robot mode and didn't show mich of the robot modes for Cheetor and Rhinox, even in the last battle. They barely transformed for most of the film and barely talked. Rhinox doesn't even have any dialogue. He just stands around for most of the movie doing nothing. On top of that, the pacing feels off. Things happen too fast when movies like Dark of the Moon and the 2007 film took time to let events play out. This film felt like they rushed a lot of plot points to hurry up and get to the big battle. It leaves the ending feeling underwhelming because it felt rushed with no building up to the big battle. And, how in the world did Wheeljack get his accent and how did he get to Peru? The film never shows how he got there, and it makes a silly joke about the accent the same way The Last Knight did with Hot-Rod. Last thing. In the end battle, we see Scourge building the giant platform with the Transwarp key, and he happens to build small pipes for humans to conveniently get through? And, instead of Optimus using his sword to blow up the key in his face like a moron, he could have just shot it with his cannon from a safe distance so he would have been able to escape with everyone else in time.
"A franchise that Hollywood refuses to let die." No! What you meant to say was "A franchise Hollywood refuses TO DO RIGHT!" They F'in butchered the franchise starting in 2007 with the 1st live-action movie. They made most of the characters totally unrecognizable, the writing is all over the place, the humor is juvenile, every movie revolves around some kind of magical item & continuity does not exist. Nobody knows WTF is going on. All that matters is the splosions. I'm one of the original fans from 1984 & Transformers has always been my favorite franchise from the 80's. But I can't stand what they've done to this franchise since 2007. It has gone straight down the toilet. I used to only collect Transformers, I have a huge collection that I can't even stand to look at anymore.
People have been begging them to basically make an all Cybertron war without any humans for a decade at this point, in my opinion they should just adapt the war and fall for Cybertron games as I consider those games a masterpiece and some of the best transformers media out there
You also probably said “Godzilla vs Kong isn’t cool, fun, or anything at all” or probably thought that “it will fail like everything else in Covid” but it worked its FUN it’s a turn your brain off and have fun, also WHAT ELSE WOULD THE END OF THE FILM BE? A HUMAN SPY SHOOTOUT? Why would you come to watch a transformers movie then? Ok, in all seriousness, when listening to you break down the movie, it seems that you watched too many movies, and can’t find movies fun anymore…. It’s just sad, but I can’t blame you that much. But it took 5 script writers to make this movie, estimated to be 2 hours of removed footage, and you’re complaining that you have a film to review and to get views (and I’m assuming money) off of, just TRY to give it CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, and not just say “do something different, even though I have no idea how to do that in this day and age”. Finally, you came for Transformers not humans, but shock transformers are CGI and CGI cost MONEY and I’ll end it off with the opinion of one of the first transformers comic writers/character description makers of the original G1 cast “Why would the Transformers be on our world if they never interact with us?”
If apelink of ling not booking it to the ship to get away from scourge despite him moving slow as hell isn’t constructive criticism on the logical decisions made by the characters then only god knows what is.

@@singularspacegodzilla5465 I should’ve realize arguing with you would give me a reply of little value. I mean, did you even read my comment? The criticism was that apeling didn’t have to fight scourge, which makes then sacrificing themselves an illogical decision. What you’re saying is that you would be completely fine with someone like Superman just beating up the justice league because he wanted to, but because it gave us a cool fight scene, it’s alright.
For me, the film really fell off because of the lack of any real substance for fans of the franchise to be excited about. When it was first announced, Rise of The Beasts seemed to promise so many new and wild concepts that hardcore G1/Beast Wars fans have been demanding to see on the big screen for decades now. Not only did we not get the Predacons, who were teased in the films description and were also hyped up by cast members, but we also didn’t get to see any other Maximals such as Rat Trap who was name dropped by the director himself. I find it utterly ridiculous that a film of this scope could play it so safe. Basically everything you saw in the trailer happened in the movie. There was nothing new or uncalled for. The countless TV spots basically gave away about 99% of the film and the producers spoiling the GI Joe crossover got rid of the only thing that would’ve been a surprise for me. The films problem is that it tried doing too much without being ambitious about it. Rise of The Beasts should have been something along the lines of an Avengers Infinity War type film. The plot was far too basic and nothing innovative happened. The Maximals, who the movie was named after, had no real role besides exposition. The Terracons were the least threatening villains on the entire franchise. And finally the Autobots somehow had less personality than the Michael Bay ones. Sue me if you disagree but I thought that the characters in this film had to be the most stale and bland renditions they could’ve possibly been. At least in Bays 2007 film each character had their own distinctive traits. In this film Wheeljack is just another generic nerd who honestly no one cares about, Arcee does absolutely nothing, and Mirage tries too hard to appease the audience. What I’m basically saying is that no one cares about these characters by the end of the film. They’re all super boring when they should be cool or relatable like Bumblebee in his solo film. Honestly if I had the chance to fix this film, what I would do first is completely overhaul the entire plot. I would scrap the ludicrous idea that SEVEN whole years has passed since Bumblebee and let the film take place in the late 80s. It would be a more simple plot along the lines of Bumblebee and the film would just be called Transformers: Robots In Disguise. This would give us a chance to explore more of the G1 side of the Transformers instead of wasting the 80s completely and skipping straight to the 90s like ROTB did. The plot would just be a back to basics Autobots vs Decepticons storyline where the Autobots have taken refuge on the planet trying to hide. It would be much more of a direct follow up to Bumblebee and have the same vibe as the film. It wouldn’t be any end of the world kind of story but rather the Decepticons finding the Autobots and hunting them down one by one as they are all scattered across the planet. Optimus would be a younger more unsure leader, but with the help of Bumblebee and a few human friends he learns to stop being afraid of the overwhelming odds and trusts humans to aid in his fight against his planets oppressors. This would honestly be so much more lenient as a plot to explore new things and give fans what they want. Introducing the Maximals, Unicron, and the Terracons in only the second film of a reboot timeline is ridiculous. Unicron should have been saved for the third film of a new trilogy as the main big bad and only being teased in the post credit scenes of each one. The Maximals and Predacons should have their own spin off film rather than trying to shove them in the same film as the Autobots. It doesn’t make sense and would also allow the script to give more character to the Maximals.
I feel you on that. Me and my brother have just bern chatting and talking abt how to add and take away stuff from the movie, so as to appease the desire that wasn’t filled from watching the movie.
As a Transformers fan all i can say is: "first time?" The movies have always been popcorn flicks to switch off too. If adter 7 films you expect anything more than that, well have i got a bridge to sell you.
@@stargate4625 I think it makes sense. 5 million years and you wouldn't reach a point where you're just like "Fuck it, talk no jutsu isn't working, maybe these hands will"
yeah I feel like way too many people are stuck with early characterizations of him. It's sort of like Captain America, the idea you have in your head is this paragon of virtue, but then you remember in his literal first movie he fucking shot people, because, y'know, fucking world war two. I mean christ Cap threw an already incapacitated target out of a plane thousands of feet in the air over the ocean. That's basically just an unmentioned execution. I mean it makes sense in context, while he was knocked out for the current fight he needed to be taken care of so he wouldn't come up behind Cap and cause issues later, but it's still pretty brutal. TF Prime, despite being a kids show that couldn't get tooo intense with it's violence, actually managed to pull off a *_lot_* of things right, including this. When Optimus was in combat, you could fucking tell Optimus was *_in_* combat. He'd stay back and fire most of the time, but when he started seriously fighting, it was *_felt_* . I think him having a hook for a hand and literally ripping bots' heads in half is going a bit unnecessarily far though. If you've watched "See", I feel like Optimus should fight a bit like Baba Voss in that while some of the kills may be brutal, but they're brutal in their effeciency, not in their malice. Optimus shouldn't fight like he takes pleasure in combat, he should fight like he's good at it. (TF Prime's excellent Optimus also benefitted massively from it's excellent stakes. It's hard to put something into words, but there are some shows where what should be badass is just "neat, that happened" and then there are things like Soundwave silently deflecting every single one of Arachnid's attacks without so much as even flinching, proving in a single scene that he is *_not_* just a surveilance officer, and you should be far more scared of him than you thought you should.)
No. Optimus kills the opposing Decepticons if they're still armed and a threat and also not in any brutal or a inmoral way ( cough Cough bayformers cough Cough).
Your point makes very much sense when it comes down to the very basics of the film. It is a cash grab movie meant to sell toys to children and to have large action scenes. I don't understand the hate your getting, I agree on certain opinions you have. However, if you look closer into the more intricate details, you can see some actual character development when it comes to optimus, who in the bayformer series was a "heroic" leader who tore decepticon heads apart, committed point blank range executions that classify as a warcrime, and has said many murderous things about his enemies. In the film however, Optimus seems to be less about violence and more about obtaining the transwarp key, albeit to his own selfishness. He believes in only his own race and does not trust humans. But as he progresses through the film he seems to understand Noah's intention of trying to destroy the key to save his own planet which leads him to the judgement that both parties must lose their own personal agendas for the greater part of their races. When it comes to scourge's death, It can be excused with the fact that prime was enraged after scourge killed bumblebee and took his anger out on him by... violently chopping his arms out and ripping his head apart from his body via impalement. Yeah. Still violent. However it is magnitudes better than the bayformers series in both complexion in character development, action scenes that don't break the geneva convention, and overall less explosion and more exposition (albeit it sometimes gets boring)
Funny thing is that most of the robots in this movie doesn't even look that cool to convince kids to want to buy the toys. In fact a kids movie can be good and made to sell toys at the same time, it's not mutually exclusive but Hasbro doesn't care about the well-being of the brand beyond the bare minimum; if Transformers movies were actually good they could sell even MORE toys like ever before but they are too incompetent and self-i indulgent to give a f*ck.
@@TheBatman39 Kids have one thing that they always want: gimmicky action and features. ROTB has some new robots that they could milk the shit out of in both studio series, regular line, and don't get me started on masterpiece, with takara tomy artificially inflating the price by 200$ just like MP44
Character development is good, but it feels wrong to make Optimus Prime the target of this kind of character development. In this movie, he is untrusting AND uncaring. If that's the case, how the hell did he become a prime? Iirc, the reason for him becoming a Prime was because of his hopefulness and noble beliefs. Any kind of development on Prime's part from untrusting to trusting should've happened before he became a prime. There's a better way the movie could've handled Prime's character development. They could've kept his lack of trust towards the humans specifically, but they should've made his lack of trust stem from a place of caring for humans. When Prime meets the main character for the first time, I was hoping he was going to say something along the lines of "This is our war. We must not allow the conflict of Cybertron to destroy the humans." Instead the movie portrays a Prime who views the humans as a hindrance. That's not the Optimus Prime that should exist at this point in time.
@@TheSilverSmitih An improvement over the last regardless. I don't want to hear the character I saw say "freedom is the right of all sapient beings" murderously yell "give me your face"
By now every time Bee gets hurt it's like "Omg they killed Kenney you bastards" ....the '07 film was and still is a great start to what could have been a stellar franchise. I wish Spielberg would have directed.
I will never stop giving Bayformers credit for creating some of the most outlandish, crazy robot action the cinema has ever seen. TF1-3 have a lot of unnecessary baggage, ranging from annoying to cringe inducing. But when the movies reach a high, its an unparalleled high. No action movie has come even close to making something as exhilarating as Arrival to earth in TF1, the forest fight or Devastor transformation in 2, the highway battle or the entire final battle in 3. And the CGI isnt just amazing, it still is on a completely different level.
The Dinobot charge in Age of Extinction, Optimus vs Bumblebee and the Cybertron battle in The Last Knight are three of the best moments in all of cinema.
“So I watched Transformers : Rise of the Beasts because it’s my job, and I have to” You did not have to do any of this, and remember you’re as disposable at your “job” as anyone else.

Considering the entire franchise, I actually enjoyed this film. I understood what was happening in the fight sequences, it had a lot of cheeky 90s callbacks that i found funny, and it at least doesn't resort to howlers like "I am directly below the enemy scrotum." Is it ever going to be among the best movies of the year? No. Is it high cinematic art? Absolutely not. But is it a more coherent attempt at rebooting a franchise that was meant to sell toys to kids? Yes. And I think we can go from there.
People be like they did not have character development shut up bro there were many characters if the movie gave all of them backstories and development the movie would have been like 6 hours long it is just the 2nd after reboot it is pretty enjoyable and has got great action scene like why do you watch Transformers everyone knows that they have a very basic story line. We watch and love Transformers because of their action sequences and characters like bumblebee and optimus prime whom we have followed and loved since childhood.

the minimal involvement of the maximals and the butchering of optimus primes characterization is what made this a huge disappointment for me. it’s titled after beast wars as if there would be a huge influence on the plot of the movie. cheetor had 3-4 lines of dialogue and rhinox didn’t speak ONCE. it was a complete disservice to the beast wars franchise

Shame the movie is called Rise Of The Beasts with only two of the beasts having significant roles and dialogue. At least they nailed the design of the maximals, even though they didn't appear much. The autobots also looked cool, except Wheeljack, studios apparently enjoy trying to make Wheeljack look like a nerd as much as possible instead of a badass scientist. Nothing about his design and personality even tell you that he’s supposed to be Wheeljack. Mirage also suffers a similar fate to Wheeljack but at least his character looks cool. The nostalgia bait was also cool. Other than that, the movie was pretty mid
I see no problem with this movie, the targeted audience for this one are children, it's obviously for the whole family, it's fun, with full pack action, with heart felt moments, and most of all awesome robots. Can't wait for another sequel And more human characters...
Honestly I wish they made a Bumblebee 2 and have it marketed better because the big reason why it the 1st Bumblebee movie didn't make alot of money is that people are drained from transformers 4 and 5 and the producer refuses to call the franchise a reboot even though certain events don't add up timeline wise.....We need a James's gunn for the Transfomers universe for some new leadership but still ROTB was going in a better direction and it has some of the Bay DNA but I completely disagree it being the same as the Bay film's because in all honesty I checked out after the 3rd one,So ROTB has that going for it it's pretty good but not great
So because it’s not a 1/1 to the original beast wars characters they’re bad? Respect your opinion but I feel like they were handled better than whatever bay would’ve done with them.
Rhinox had no lines 😂 they they had very little characterization . They were there to deliver exposition I'd never seen beast wars, and this movie did a lousy job of introducing me to the characters . I don't know anything about them other than they have a sense of duty
I don’t understand why they can never really flesh out the other groups of robots. First the Dinobots which were reduced to literally animals and not being able to actually talk at all, and now with the Maximals which can talk but were underutilized
Peter cullen saud he actually had fun with this film. He didnt have any issues with the writing of optimus. I think u got that so wrong. He actually had character development in this film. But otherwise if u expect a masterpiece award winning film from these transformers movies, yeah ur gonna be disappointed. If u can sit back, enjoy some great cgi, great action, and a story good enough that u arent scratching ur head and kicking ur seat (unless u think like a film critic) u will enjoy it. I feel like it is very true that lots of films that film critics hate ur average person will hate. And not all but a good chunk of films critics love ur average person doesnt like or just thinks its ok. For example film critics think the bumblebee movie was great will fans thought it was solid but not nearly as good as critics. And if u look at rotten tomatoes transformers (2007) and rise of the beasts have higher audience scores than bumblebee does while their critics score were much lower
They pulled a Batman v Superman on us. First movie of the new universe gets a modest profit? Let´s fuse its sequel to the other project we have to launch a cinematic universe! Wait, that didn´t work last time...
Ill disagree respectfully, I think transformers is finally on a good direction after Michael Bay screwed it up, I enjoyed bumblebee and rise of the beast and I hope we keep getting more, But your argument is completely valid
i respect people’s opinions but they shouldn’t expect a martin scorsese type of story with the transformers. it’s mindless fun and yeah the humans are old, very old. Bumblebee was an exception to that. i’d say we are in good hands right now
the movie was good until Bumblebee dies, Prime being distrustful of humans could have been good but he just turned into a dickhead the whole movie. delete humans from this franchise

I didn't mind the aggressiveness of the movie but man the movie sucked. What really killed me was the ending and the stupid let's make the human protagonist into "iron man" or "transformer man". I grew up with Beast Wars in the 90's and they definitely butchered this bad.
This movie was good, but not amazing. An 8.5/10 for me, every character was likeable, the action scenes we're clear and not a metallic mess like the bayverse movies(Im not saying they we're bad, just messy, if you know what I mean), the story was simple but good, acting was good. My only issue is the end fight cause of how many convenient stuff happened. (SPOILERS AHEAD) I also didnt like how Bumblebee and Mirage came back to life at the end, they should've saved it for the next movie
beast wars deserves it's own movie. One of the better, if not the best, interations of Transformers. Season 1 of Beast Wars is such a great season of animation. If you've never seen it. Do. The 3D hasn't aged well, but there's such a charm and such great music and voice acting that it makes up for it. And the action scenes are still pretty good to be honest.
Can we just discuss how Mirage, (aside from showing his most well loved vehicle mode, but choosing to steal Jazz's alt), can just become a truck because: needs to be a truck, I guess..? What happened to vehicle modes having to be something that a transformer of a certain size can realistically fit in to? I mean, if I were an Autobot after witnessing that, I would be like, "Fck it, lets ALL be tanks!"
Never heard of Broadside? His Aircraft Carrier alt mode would make Metroplex look tiny, so his gestalt sized robot mode wouldn't remotely fit it. Plus there's Megatron becoming a handgun, Soundwave a portable cassette player, one of the Arielbots becoming a massive jumbo jet, mass conversion makes 1 to 1 ratios more of a suggestion then a necessity.
@@docsavage4921 We aren't talking about the sub space storage pocket, or canonical shrinking, (mass shifting ),from the cartoon or comic universes, we're talking about something as sleek and compact as a Porsche being able, in a "grounded" universe, to become a truck with around twice the surface area. If that's plausible, then it makes one wonder why Arcee doesn't realise her bike alt modes drawbacks and become a Freightliner or an armoured personnel carrier. I mean, it can't be because of wheel restrictions: Mirage managed to pull an extra 6 out of his as.s!
@@docsavage4921 In the movie universe, none of those things happened. Not one. We're talking about the movie universe, so it's best to stay within the confines of the presented physics. And granted, they're pretty loose, but the idea Mirage can go from a Porsche to a garbage truck twice his original frame is laughable, and worse it's lazy. The discrepancy in mass, in THIS universe, is too great. Plus it again makes me wonder why Bumblebee didn't just "become" a motorbike when he had his legs blown off! I mean, it's perfectly doable to just change alt modes when you fancy trying something different, or when the plot needs it. By your logic, Wheelie and Brains could have been monster trucks!
Bumblebee only got killed 2 in the live action movies and doesn't rarely get injured so i don't know what your talking about when you say it's a common occurrence.
I got a question ❓ How did they get their Beast Mode when they were on their home planet? Are they telling us that on the Maxamuls palents are Gorllias cheetors Rino's and hawks??? In the beast wars we know they landed on Earth and scanned the animals to get their mode.
Well the problem with this one is that there's not really enough action set pieces to make it interesting. That is even on its own terms, It's terrible. The opening scene looked great but then you just spend all your time spending your wheels looking at characters that are just cheap looking.
I liked the movie alot, but it did have its problems though. Cheetor and Rhinox's screentime was heavily underutilized and Wheeljack was barely a character. However, with all that said, I did enjoy that it actually tried to give most of the Transformers actual personality and emotions, which is more than I can say for like 95% of the Bay movies. Prime's arc was definitely the standout for me and I liked how Primal's story was linked with Optimus' which made their interactions all the more special. It wasn't a masterpiece, but it was very fun, which at this point for the seventh installement in the franchise was pretty much what I expected lol.
I liked it too, despite my grievances. I came out of the theatre feeling like I had a good time, and that counts for something in my book. It was more “action movie” than Bumblebee was, but I still felt some of that residual “heart” if that makes any sense.😅
Just watched this movie a couple of days ago. I am still in visceral shock, somehow they made a worse movie than the Last Knight. Literally nothing about this movie is any good, truely NOTHING.
You're kidding right? Rise of the beasts is the only Transformers movie where the Transformers have more screen time than the humans.. and the human characters were actually done well and relatable. The Transformer designs were also retro and accurate. This movie also had proper action where I could actually see what was going on instead of the regular human POV that Bay did. Optimus Prime for once actually felt like a main character rather than an occasional side character.
Sorry but this movie was pretty bad and thats coming from a huge transformers fan. The emotional scenes were forced and everything felt too conveneint. The Maximals had hardly any cool screen time. The acting was not that great. Towards the end once the planets rocks started to glow with the Transformers Energy Optimus Primal and Optimus prime should have merged together or had some cool power up happen before they fight the main villain but no nothing happens besides bumblebee coming back. This whole movie was just a safe cash in.
The human characters relatable 🙄 yea everyone’s frm Brooklyn and has their back against the wall bc Brooklyn !! Or the girl who can solve any scenario on the spot like how she figured out the alien password at the bridge , yea she’s so relatable. U ppl say anything
Considering how bumblebee was a good film you’d think maybe they’d take some lessons from it. Lower stakes, maybe some characters other than Optimus and Bee, who knows. I wish they’d take a page from the “more than meets the eye” comics and have a story that focuses entirely on the bots and utilizes characters we don’t know very well like Ultra Magnus, Rodimus, and Swerve
Why would they do that knowing bee and Optimus will always bring it more money that any other character. Business 101, just like the fast and furious series, why stop when they keep on making 100s of millions

Suddenly Optimus Prime is Raysist

Plus there’s 13 transformer characters, only one was established in a solo movie, along with 3 main human characters so yes wasted characters are to be expected, but again, they can appear in future films since they weren’t killed off for an action scene
They must have stripped the music out in the version I just watched. I can't STAND it when humans can dodge alien robots so easily

@@spacemanju7 NO! none of these Transformer live action movies are good. They are all childish garbage except maybe Bumblebee.
Yeah but Shia Lebouf is amazing. I dont see what kind of flaws he has in those first chapters.
He is by far the best human character we have got in transformer media
But I agree especially when it comes to the maximals, the rhino doesn't even say a word. Also Can't forget Ms exposition. I honestly would have switched the girl out for Noah's brother at least there would have been some connection.

This is suppose to be a younger, less experienced Optimus. He's not going to the perfect prime from the jump.
Do you not understand how hard1 billion is to make? only the top 51 movies of all time have grossed 1 billion
It would go Bumblebutt, dark of the moon (or AoE haven’t decided), and RoTB.
imagine coming to see this movie solely for the Maximals and then they get like, 5 minutes of screentime
Do you not know who unicron is?....
One thing I hate about the live action Transformer movies is that they focus too much on People ITS A MOVIE ABOUT ROBOTS NOT PEOPLE!
Luckily, this one did a better job of focusing both on the humans and the robots, more than the previous ones (except Bumblebee) did.

WHY CAN'T WE GET A TRANSFORMERS MOVIE SET IN SPACE?!?!!!!!
It's "confirmed" reboot anyway
"A franchise that Hollywood refuses to let die."
No!

@@robonator2945 I think that's exactly what optimus is supposed to be tho. Captain America as a Transformer.

The Dinobot charge in Age of Extinction, Optimus vs Bumblebee and the Cybertron battle in The Last Knight are three of the best moments in all of cinema.

Can't wait for another sequel
And more human characters...
They were barely in the film, essentially an afterthought. One character had a SINGLE line of dialogue and another, 0. So yes, it was bad.
Rhinox had no lines 😂 they they had very little characterization . They were there to deliver exposition
I'd never seen beast wars, and this movie did a lousy job of introducing me to the characters . I don't know anything about them other than they have a sense of duty
@@hue_jazz59agreed 💯💯💯
Is that implying they have character in the film?

Ill disagree respectfully, I think transformers is finally on a good direction after Michael Bay screwed it up, I enjoyed bumblebee and rise of the beast and I hope we keep getting more,
But your argument is completely valid
i respect people’s opinions but they shouldn’t expect a martin scorsese type of story with the transformers. it’s mindless fun and yeah the humans are old, very old. Bumblebee was an exception to that. i’d say we are in good hands right now

Action scenes that dragged on? Woah, I don't think there was enough, everybody else has said there wasn't enough. Welp
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
I also didnt like how Bumblebee and Mirage came back to life at the end, they should've saved it for the next movie

beast wars deserves it's own movie.

I got a question ❓ How did they get their Beast Mode when they were on their home planet? Are they telling us that on the Maxamuls palents are Gorllias cheetors Rino's and hawks??? In the beast wars we know they landed on Earth and scanned the animals to get their mode.
Time travel stuff that was cut from the movie for time reasons
And also, why not an elephant, housefly or even a t-rex???
Just a bunch of giant random zoo animals 🤷♂️🥴

Yea my dude Shia Lebouf was not the problem in those movies. After the 2nd movie they no longer made sense and they just became dumb.
The Transformers comics, games, and animated shows are good as well. It's a shame the live action movies are horrible.
Well the problem with this one is that there's not really enough action set pieces to make it interesting. That is even on its own terms, It's terrible. The opening scene looked great but then you just spend all your time spending your wheels looking at characters that are just cheap looking.
Shia lebeouf hate shall not be tolerated
He hated the character, not the actor
I hope Critical Drinker does a review of this movie.
@ayara8157 no not at all
I liked the movie alot, but it did have its problems though.
I'm sad nothing changed after Bumblebee. I was actually hopeful we'd finally get some good transformers content after that movie

No he didn’t and the cinematography was terrible first transformers looks better. Better cgi and transformations

Sorry but this movie was pretty bad and thats coming from a huge transformers fan. The emotional scenes were forced and everything felt too conveneint. The Maximals had hardly any cool screen time. Towards the end once the planets rocks started to glow with the Transformers Energy Optimus Primal and Optimus prime should have merged together or had some cool power up happen before they fight the main villain but no nothing happens besides bumblebee coming back.
