@@GrayStream-pl7ot I'd like that but I'd enjoy a sidebar about the twisted metal series that was decent and perfect timing with the new fallout show apparently
Why is mirage the character that is known for not liking humans?(I don't know anything about the main lore I just started binge watching all the live action movies)
Y'know the "We'll clear the way" line? That might've been Primal, but I gave it to Rhinox so he can have AT LEAST one line, besides roars & yells, etc!
I fully burst out laughing at the G.I. Joe reveal at the end. Setting that up in an Avengers-style post credits scene about Transformers is like setting up a sequel to Training Day at the end of Paw Patrol.
Well to be fair G.I.JOE and transformers have always existed in the same universe they just never capitalized on it except for the comics and a couple toys, hell one of the main characters from the G1 Transformers Continuity Marissa Fairborn is Flint's daughter. Flint is one of the JOE's for those who aren't familiar with the lore.
The way you squeeze the imfamous “I’m an Inventor!” Moment one way or another in every Transformers video you’ve done never fails to get a chuckle out of me.
Haven't seen the video yet, but I hope he worked in "the card" as well, because god, that's such a stupid fucking scene. The entire situation was so dumb. Why didn't they just write her to be eighteen? Or both of them as teens? Was someone on the writers team self reporting or something? What the hell happened there? We can never let that be forgotten.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, we will never have a good enough Transformers movie until we get a scene where 2 Autobots sit across from each other and talk about something OTHER than humans or the mission.
@@Knick3607Sentinel Prime and Optimus Prime kinda have one in Dark of the Moon, where they talk about leadership and Optimus offers the Matrix to Sentinel. It's brief and could technically be considered the mission, but it's there.
The biggest issue with this film? It dropped Unicron too early. Unicron is a Thanos-level "ultimate" villain. This movie should have been three separate films: one featuring the Autobots vs. Decepticons (which could feature the Noah and Mirage friendship plot since it was genuinely fun), a second film featuring Maximals vs. Predacons (so the Maximals get enough time to shine as main characters rather than just being on the side) and then finally save Unicron and his heralds for the grand finale of a trilogy. This movie tried to fit in all three concepts at once and wasn't able to realize any of them to their full potential.
The 80s GI Joe and Transformers cartoons canonically share the same universe, via Marissa Faireborn, who is the daughter of Flint (Dashiell Faireborn) and Lady Jaye. Flint also appears in an episode (although not by that name). The two franchises have been joined since 1986.
Diaclone (the line that Transformers came from) also started out as a G.I. Joe-inspired line from Japan. I don't get why people are so adamant against the crossover .
When ROTB first released, I saw it opening night, and thought it was pretty good. Noticed a lot of the missing scenes that were cut last minute, but didn’t think too much of them. The Fandom immediately devolved into fights over whether this was the best film, or one of the worst. Honestly, after reflecting since it released, it’s a firmly ok film. There’s plenty of things that could be improved, but comparing it to the films post DOTM, it’s a fairly solid movie. It’s a solid “B+”
because: 1. transformers and gi joe are both hasbro products 2. hasbro has wanted a gi joe movie reboot for a while 3. transformers and gi joe have crossed over before, in the comics 4. most transformers movies have the military in there somewhere (literally only the original animated movie and this one iirc dont have it)
The original GI Joe and Transformers cartoons take place in the same universe despite minimal crossover, and they’ve had a million crossover in comics since.
Folks in the replies have already mentioned Transformers and G.I. Joe's past crossovers, but they crossed over again just recently. After comic publisher IDW lost the rights to Transformers and G.I. Joe, Image Comics picked them both up and put em together in what they call the Energon Universe. The comics are actually really solid so far, and they combine the two franchises way more naturally than this movie seems to... Anyway, the movie and the comic merger happening so close together is likely not a coincidence
As someone whose only interaction with these movies has been purely through your videos on them, my soul was swiftly sucker punched into the next dimension the second I heard you utter the words "G.I. Joe".
Supposedly theyve been wanting to do another transformers and g.i.joe collab since the comics. I was absolutely flabbergasted when that shit came up. Kept turning to my dad like "what the fuck are they doing" "why"
The problem with this movie is how it immediately escalated everything from Bumblebee I liked how Bumblebee dialed everything back a bit and started in a similar setting to the original G1 Transformers and gave little hints of lore n stuff. We were so used to seeing everything from the perspective of this little lost scout that when we got glimpses of something more, it felt SOOOOO much bigger, like us seeing the hologram message from Optimus and losing our minds or when the Decepticons saw the message of Optimus coming to Earth and they look and sound genuinely concerned and scared, or the battle on Cybertron as Bumblebee escapes. They then set up a perfect foundation to give us what we wanted and feed us the content we were exited for and to see how it all plays together. Then they show off alternate transformers, the end of the world, plot McMuffins, ancient transformer things on Earth, and Unicron the guy who's supposed to be the end all end game content for Transformers. They fucked up the pacing yet again It may not have been from Bay, but it sure as hell felt like it, which is why I had no intention to see it.
I remember being told about the GI Joe twist long before I watched the film and STILL thought it was a Sector Seven card. I think it was because I was waiting for the Megatron reveal that never came and forgot about it.
If the poor box office performance of this movie ends up causing the sequels not to happen, here's an easy fix. Noah joins GI JOE, and is assigned to their secret special division for dealing with Transformers called Sector 7, as well as being assigned the codename Simmons.
@@MrEnzio777 Maybe every chief agent gets assigned the codename Simmons, then you have a line of Simmons' dealing with transformer related stuff going back to ye olden days, would also open the doors for the sweet sweet prequel money that Paramount would be frothing at the mouth to get.
Aparently this was an almost last minute rewrite. It was supossed to be an S7 card (and behind the secret doors we were supossed to see some cons stuff being studied) but they decided that it will be a perfect movie to start ,,hasbroverse". Kinda sad it performed badly
I’m genuinely surprised you didn’t talk about Optimus in this movie. In this movie he didn’t really care about humans or earth and just wanted to go home because he feels guilty about leaving his team stranded. It’s an interesting change for him compared to the bay films which made him more bloodthirsty as the films went on
How is it an example of Hollywood not understanding prime, @zemox2534? This is the best adaptation of his, at least he shows character development and it's not just a hollow machine saying effect phrases
@PepeGibon Actually yes He should be unless there is a clear AU being explored (Mirrorverse). Peter Cullen based the original OP on his marine corps brother who was HIS hero. I think changing that concept would be a slap in the face to the effort and genuine love Peter put into the original character.
went to see this with the family, and my dad’s only comment about the movie was “Every Transformer’s movie is the same, they always gotta find the special object and take it to the special place and fight the bad guy”
unfortunately, thats all that transformers really has been for a long time. its quite hard to make a unique story when all you have to go off of is "two factions at war" as their main story
@@Drawngalaxy Would I be wrong for thinking that the comics are different about this? They're generally more war stories and the closest we have to a real Macguffin hunt was Rodimus going on a quest with the Lost Light.
@@aetheriox463 Well it's not like WWII was about the Allies and Axis trying to find the Nuclear Bomb plans like it was the One Piece. I don't even remember what point I was trying to make I just wanted to make the analogy
I think I'll go ahead and explain who the Terrorcons were in the olden days of G1, and keep it brief. They were a Decepticon team of five that all turned into straight up monsters. They consisted of: Sinnertwin, the angry, two headed fire breathing thing. Blot, the sickly bridge troll. Ripper Snapper, the stealthy walking shark. Cut Throat, the psychotic bird creature. And the leader, the glutenous Hungrrr. They also combined to become the raging Decepticon, Abominus, who to quote Micheal Mercy "is so stupid it once took him an hour to cook minute rice."
Bay can be criticised for a lot of things, but he is an absolute master of getting value out of his special effects teams. On a technical level his films look better than most modern action films, while often costing less to make. Also highly recommend every frame a paintings video 'what is bayhem?' for anyone curious about why other directors immitating Bay's style tend to look a bit 'off'.
Thank you for mentioning this. People who shit on the first 4 transformers movies fail to realize how innovative and insanely technical the action effects were. Sure the story is below average, nobody cares about sams girlfriend. I'm not sure about it being cheaper. Rise of thr beasts and bumblbee didn't use as much practical effects I think.
I legit saw this movie when it first came out. I then saw your video about it on my recommendations and thought to myself "hmmm yeah, I never saw that one. Wonder what it's about"? I then realized that I did in fact see it when I started watching your video. That's how unforgettable this movie really was.
"I did not want you to go to that drive-in movie theater anymore." *sad Bumblebee noises* I like how this implies Bumblebee sneaked out to a movie theater even after told not to
@@Comkill117 Yep. You don't get that many actual songs that someone would actually listen to in their free time being used during the actual action in an movie.
You should really cover the Godzilla franchise. The good, the bad, and the sometimes awesome moments. It’s honestly a mind blowing series with how good it is and also how um… not so good it is. But nevertheless they are pretty fun to watch.
That's a great suggestion. Since there are so many movies though, maybe it'd be better to divide it into different eras: one video for the first film, another for the Showa series as a whole, other for Heisei etc
i like the new movies mostly i just wish they would focus on the world and monsters more than just the random characters that are some set dressing. no one cares if these random people are doing random shit show me a lizard the size of a skyscraper beat the shit out of a monkey the size of a skyscraper however seeing a giant robot double team godzilla and king kong forcing them to work together was easily the best thing to come out of media in decades.
I honestly loved this film's take on Optimus. He's much angrier & rash here but makes sense for him. I hope its a more positive growth in this reboot as opposed to the regression in the Bayverse.
prime in the Rise Of The Beast made more sense cause hes new to earth so why should he trust humans and care much what happens to them? and that's how character growth is made, they start from zero and move up
@@logan317bthat's actually an interesting take on Optimus imo, a soldier who's known nothing but war for so long it's changed him into a violent prick but over the time he spends on earth he changes from a warrior into the kind hearted and humble dad figure he was in the orginal show
I saw it opening night & I enjoyed it but the funniest thing was during the end scene, I guess a couple people (including myself) thought the little card was going to say 'S7' and I heard a couple people clap, and then when the card revealed 'GIJOE' the silence was deafening lmao
@@heitorpedrodegodoi5646 yeah, but why clap lmao. It’s not like it’s the first time s7 has been shown in this universe. And it’s just strange considering they’re just an organization it’s not even a fan favorite character or anything.

Yet another movie my dad worked on. Lets just say this one was a mess. It was filmed in Montreal and in Peru. My dad worked in the Montreal part of the movie and was responsible for the transport logistics. So everything from trucks, van location, lodges for actors and staff and all that. btw the movie was filmed in the summer of 2021 even though in came out in 2023. So for that whole summer my dad would come back from work with the wildest stories of that day. for example, the initial police chase with the porsche in the beginning of the movie kinda went wild during filming seeing has they crashed 14 of them. its not rare to crash several cars during filming (fast and the furious probably hold that record). Another cool thing is usually when production wrap up, especially the big ones staff gets a gift. for transformer my dad got a blanket made of llama fur from Peru with a transformer logo in the bottom corner. Idk if this worth anything but has far as i can tell this is pretty original and it actually has a cool link with the filming of the movie (best gift he got for a movie was to keep the director chairs for the movie Arrival(2016)). Although my dad has work on countless bad movies' like this one, i can understand how he likes doing what he does. I made a community post for those who want to see the things we still have from that movie, here is a link to some photos i just took really quickly: ruclips.net/channel/UC-ybHxuRR8INwz3rw9dlvPAcommunity?lb=UgkxmCx4h9g1SgGqEmSJ3J4QkAgbcQNa0fy8
Your dad works on hundred millions $ block busters, he’s like cool as hell lol. I wouldn’t consider transformers a bad movie to work on or something that looks bad on your career. Big accomplishment
I think ROTB was a great film in general. Your father should be very proud of working on this film especially one thats part of a huge blockbuster franchise
The way you squeeze the imfamous “I’m an Inventor!” Moment one way or another in every Transformers video you’ve done never fails to get a chuckle out of me.
Didn't see this movie, but from what I saw online, one thing most people were upset about was Rattrap wasn't in the movie. Apparently in Transformers lore, Arcee and Rattrap are related and Transformer fans were looking forward to seeing them interact together.
Like him or not. Their is no denying that Michael Bay reinvented Transformers. He even reinvented bumblebee with his microphone mouth and radio voice. That’s how iconic THAT bumblebee is
@ShockwaveFPSStudios He did not invent shit. The All Spark existed long before Bay got his dirty hands on TFm Bay is a bloody overrated action junkie who can't tell a good story if his career depended on it!
The weird thing is that Zoids is kind of similar to Transformers in the way it was created, it began as a Japanese toyline, I forgot how it was called, then it was licensed by Hasbro and was given a new name, it got some comics, but then in '99 it got an anime that got pretty popular in both Japan and the rest of the world along with a new toyline
Actually I saw this film, at its Brooklyn premiere no less. Whole cast was in attendance and the theater legitimately went nuts at THAT final scene. I’d say it’s the most these Transformers movies have felt like the cartoons, for better or for worse.
The film was released on my birthday, I watched it with my parents and 2 other cousins, it was a really cool experience. And being able to hear "Arrivel to Earth" in theaters after so long was something priceless
Maybe its my clouded childhood nostalgia, but another thing that seems to be missing from RotB is that larger-than-life aspect the Transformers had in the previous films. In the Bay films, the Transformers looked big, felt big, and left devastation in their wake as they fought in cities among the human populace. Michael Bay really liked to show how huge these guys are. Even in RotF, they didn't fight in a big city, but they still felt big as they fought in a Forest from Sam's perspectives. The climax of RotB kinda reminds me of the desert fight in RotF, but kinda worse, fighting on this flat plane without much scale.
I felt the same way. I thought the camera during ROTB's climax moved unnaturally and unrestricted kinda like a MCU movie. In most of the Bay movies the camera felt grounded.
Yeah people criticise Bay's action style a lot but I think it made these movies way more awesome than they had any right to be, the visual effects were never what made these movies bad(until they got way shittier later) The CGI even the first movie still holds up amazingly well, all the little parts of the bots moving around and clicking in to place as they transform is incredible. Size is something the cartoons even never really got that right because they still ultimately had to turn in to cars and stuff that the human characters had to get in to, so the scale always seemed a little weird. Massive sentient robots SHOULD cause a lot of destruction, it was always weird to me how people say Michael Bay ruined that particular part.
I agree. It didn't feel as powerful with the visuals or designs. Yeah, they were more cohesive than the Bay designs, but they ended up like a good 3/4 the size of the bay versions for the most part, and they didn't feel nearly as powerful like you said. It felt like some big people fighting and not giant robots. It was fun, yeah. But I honestly prefer most, if not all the bay films to this for entertainment and maybe even story. Hasn't really improved much story wise. Just "oh, we need this thing but to also keep it from the other side, then a big action scene after" Except I like the way the Bay movies did the action much more
Fun fact, this isnt even the first OR second time they collabed. There was a whole comic series, and, IN THE ORIGINAL SHOW (tho it was Season 3) they even have one of the GI JOE villains show up for an episode, specifically the one where the autobots get turned into humans (sort of like a reverse of Autobot Spike)
Im beginning to think he’s just making them up at this point, like no way they had fucking wizards and shit in one of them (for the record, im well aware that they’re real)
After all this time, we’ve finally reached the end of this transformers era in pointlesshub’s channel Edit: Just finished the video, and looks like it’s 90’s time baby
This movie was proof that Bay Fatigue had set in with everyone, not just diehard Transformers fans. I love your reviews of the live action movies, and this was a delight. Thank you Mr. Hub!
It honestly felt like this seem dived back into the trends from the Bay movies with big action scenes and explosions where you can't tell what was happening on screen, and characters that exist only for the fights that contribute nothing to the rest of the movie with a way too large cast. I don't even understand why the other maximals aside from airrazor who dies without getting to transform and primal needed to exist, they literally do not have any dialogue.
@@M_k-zi3tn buddy bay IS at fault, tf5 was a clear cut example audiences were done with his vision of TF (with bumblebee being an exception for how down to earth it was) and the moment we get another big budget TF film that actually TRIES to respect the source material, audiences don't have much interest cause they look back at the 10 years of bay and assume rotb is the same thing despite having a different director. Bay's movies put a permanent stain on the franchise, ask most casual viewers about TF and they'll only think of the bayverse, nothing beyond that cause that's all they know and been exposed to.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Nah dude most people like the first 3 TF movies to a reasonable extent. ROTB has itself to blame. It's just not a fun experience and is hella forgettable. Blaming Bay is blatant coping and denial of the fact that this movie wasn't entertaining enough to get asses in seats.
This essay series is something I’ve watched and rewatched countless times over the last several months and kept me occupied over some long nights. So I want to thank you, Cody, for suffering through this franchise and providing context and trivia I didn’t know existed. Also for making good stuff. Keep doing good. 👍
I think the one thing that really bothered me was the characterisation of Optimus. I know he's younger here, but I always thought of the first Transformers movie was the best version of Optimus, he's hopeful and kind to species different from him but he also has an edge to him that does what's necessary because of his experience in the war of Cybertron. Plus, isn't the reason why he's chosen to be Prime is his kindness to everyone? But also, G.I. Joe? I think they're trying to do that Kong and Godzilla crossover thing (or a Hasbro Cinematic Universe jfc) but at least they're both huge monsters, this was just so jarring.
I suspect they're gonna do something with the Headmaster gimmick... humans reverse-engineer cybertronian tech, make their own transformers... but with human pilots instead of the Cybertronian "spark" of Life.
The transformers literally fought a dude named Old Snake in the g1 show. That’s not even to talk about how the comics were playing with each other for years
I actually preferred Noah over Sam. Sam's emotional hang ups honestly had very little relevance to the Transformers directly. But Noah's desire to look out for his brother is very comparable to Optimus's plight. But I think we could have had Air razor provide the exposition more than Elena(so more screentime for Air Razor). Also Rhinox and Cheetor(but definitely Rhinox) were done dirty in this movie. Edit: Thanks everyone for the likes! I seem the counter is going up and up. Currently at over 350 at this point. Edit #2: And we're over 450 likes! Thanks everyone Again all in all Noah is arguably a better written character than Sam at least for TF1 and potentially TF2. We probably can't get Noah or other characters like Noah for the next few movies but he's a good template. I still would like to see Noah having a cameo in the next movies at least if possible.
Could've just used Primal, Airazor, and Cheetor as the primary Maximals and that's it. Save Rhinox for another film if a sequel got made. Could've just used Prime, Arcee, and Mirage (with Bee at the start and climax of the flick once Mirage is out of the movie and in his suit mode) as the primary Autobots and that's it. Save Wheeljack for another film with a variation of his G1 design shown in Bumblebee. Could've just used Scourge (a name used for characters in both Generation One and Beast Wars), Nightbird (primarily a Generation One character), and Quickstrike (primarily a Beast Wars character) as the primary Terrorcons and that's it. A good combination of villainous characters from different versions of the franchise whom are visually distinct from one another that people wouldn't mind being Terrorcons as Unicron's enforcers in this incarnation.
@@DieHardAlien We have to be careful about how many characters we exclude from a movie since there's no guarantee there will actually be a next movie that continues the storyline. While I can agree "less characters can mean more" for a movie, if the movie does terribly, the next movie will probably just axe the current characters(the execs can assume the current characters weren't liked so no point in having them take up screentime in the next movie) and we won't see the characters "we saved for the sequel". Sometimes certain characters only really work well with other characters being there as they did in the original show. If Rhinox had some lines, it would have been great to have him talk to Cheetor. A damn shame.
@@shiftbloxx1076 Which boggles my mind why TF1 was praised so much when Sam/Shia... just kept screaming. I tolerated it in TF3 because genuine shit was going down and Sam was getting into the action himself. But TF1? It's so distracting.
Beast Wars might be literally the first memory of my life. My dad, in the old apartment where I grew up, doing an air guitar of the intro and screaming "BEAST WAAAAAAARS". I can't figure out now if he was doing it to entertain his son or because he actually liked the show. It is one of the most precious memories of my life. . . . I never watched this movie, thinking it was a meme. "Haha, Transformers movies are stupid. What if beast wars? haha"
I went to see ROTB opening night, and while I do wish more people would’ve given it a chance, it’s understandable why that didn’t happen. It had it’s flaws of course, but while not being perfect I did enjoy it quite a lot and thought it was a step in the right direction after the last two Bay films.
The only reason I rate this movie it's alright/10 because there's not even a slight hint of connection to the previous Bumblebee movie even though it's also being advertised as (somehow) a sequel to that movie
That's the problem, the only value people seem to see in this movies is "Well, it's not as bad as the Bay Films". Comparing shit to bigger shit, they're still both shit. I'm not gonna praise a movie for doing the bare minimum
I like how the bots in this one are scuffed up instead of oiled up like pro wrestlers. Using high gloss, mirrored finishes on all your CGI is a crutch to look flashy without having to put in the texturing work.
I feel like the movie could’ve definitely benefited from a longer runtime, especially with characters such as Arcee and Airazor. Also, the Beast Wars characters should’ve had their own separate movie. Still, I had a good time due to how fun and entertaining it is and I am very hopeful that the next movies will improve.
I think it was Alright. They brought back war crime Prime which is really funny, but this movie gave him an arc that explains how he became so bloodthirsty and eventually learnt to trust again.
This movie was so amazingly loved in Peru. It remained the most watched film in cinemas for more than a month I think. People like my mother along with my aunts, who couldn't give two shits about transformers went to see this in theaters. I know its hardly little more than an ok movie with less than interesting human characters, but seeing Cuzco and those wonderful shots near Macchu Picchu and Sacsayhuaman certainly made it special for us, and having some minor indigenous characters was also heart-warming. Too bad the part were the final battle occurs is just made up with generic CGI.
I liked the fact that for the marketing in Latin America Optimus Prime's dub actor, Blas García, was featured in some of Paramount's social media posts. As for the voice cast itself, only Airazor had her original dub actress from Beast Wars returning, but to be fair, most of the original BW cast has either retired or passed away
It's a reminder that "representation matters". Another example: "Black Panther" showed Afro-Futurism. Another one: setting "District 9" in Johannesburg (south Africa). Yet another one: "Ms. Marvel" and her Pakistani family. Want one more? "Blue Beetle" and his Latino family. All these movies were seen, discussed, and supported by the "represented demographic". Even if a few of them didn't make billions, they made more than they would without their location and/casting decisions. As much as we 💩 on "woke casting" and what-not, human audiences like to see themselves represented *positively* on the big screen.
@user-gz7lm9js9f Which makes it kinda sad when its revealed that the Maximals and the village they were guarding had it the whole time, making their whole visit to the small Peruvian town kinda pointless.
I loved this film and saw it in an empty theater by myself 😂 It gave me Saturday morning cartoon vibes especially with them introducing GI Joe at the end. Any kid would want more of this vs some of the previous films
Peter Dinklages performance in this movie immediately reminded me of his performance as the Ghost for the release of Destiny. You can really tell when he’s just taking a role for money. Dude actually falls asleep in the booth.
Should've been someone like Clancy Brown or Ben Mendelsohn voicing the character instead of Dinklage. I could've seen Dinklage voicing Dropkick in Bumblebee similarly to his voice work in Ice Age 4 and Croods 2 (except more brutish and threatening).
Yup, it has the exact same energy as his ghost performance, i guess you could try and blame it on the voice director. But almost all of the voice actors in this and destiny are great. Dinklage sticks out like a sore thumb in this. Im gonna say it's him that is not good at voice acting.
@@DieHardAlien Fair enough, i haven't seen Croods 2, and it was a long time ago that i saw Ice age 4 but i don't remember his captain gutt performance that well. Still, like i said. He sticks out in properties with otherwise good voice acting.

Fun fact for those who don't know... Beast Wars was is a historically important show because it followed ReBoot in being a fully 3D rendered CGI show on a meager weekly show budget and insane schedule. It could do it because of the shift from super expensive software meant to run on super expensive SGI workstations (and mainframes just a few years earlier) could now be run on what was essentially desktop computers. Shouts to Mainframe and Alliance (the production companies) for breaking new ground with ReBoot in 1994 and following up with Beast Wars. As an early 3D animator on my Commodore Amiga's, these folks really blew me away. Hat's off.
Honestly I feel like the best thing for transformers at this point is to focus on the decepticons back when they were just starting out. It could cover megatron's origins as a miner and gladiator before turning into the evil war monger we know today, would be really interesting to see and could be watched by itself and still being able to connect to the other movies without retconning anything since it'd be a true prequel on cybertron
That shit rules. It'll never not be hilarious to me that cinematic titan and legend Orson Welles, last film was voicing Unicron. Also the music fucking rules

Zoids Wild was a mega success over in Japan, it got a ton of shit sold over there. The problem is that whatever the hell Zoids Wild Zero did was so bad it immediately tanked the entire brand again so now the franchise has died for the third time.
I do like and appreciate that many aspects of it are far more accurate to the source than the Michael Bay movies, though I am worried its failure will make Hollywood go back on that. I honestly also quite like the GI Joe teaser at the end and merging the two into a "cinematic universe", as it seems like a natural fit if they take their time and do it right (they won't) I also really liked it when everyone died and the Street Sharks burst onto the screen yelling "Jawsome!" I cried, I clapped in the theater, I whistled and screamed.
Distant thunder hit my ears right as you mentioned the storm that obscures Unicron and I assumed it was just part of the video until the rain hit. Good timing Cody
Its amazing how I still remember the original Beast Wars and the plots despite it not being on the air for 20+ years but I forgot what happens in this movie that I saw a few months ago.
That's because this movie was trash (so I'm told). It doesn't even follow the lore of the actual Beast Wars. Just another, same old Bay "car go boom" movie.
@@croaton07 ROTB wasn't *horrible*, but it wasn't anything special. Lame action, lame characters, and repeats the same plot all the bay movies used. Also, the CGI is bland and colorless I'm used to my transformers *being bad* . But when they *look* bad*? that's when I start having issues. All five of the Bayformers movies have absolutely *amazing* visuals. Even The Last Knight, which has worse CGI than the previous four! it at least has *interesting* visuals. I can give it that. While ROTB is just so gray and devoid of life. Optimus specifically just looks gross throughout the entire movie. Also that final battle... my god, what a horrible climax. It's grey robots fighting the same model repeated 100x in a grey field. People had the same complaints for the Bay movies, but I never understood those *cowardly* complaints up until this movie. It looks awful
15:45 So, about that... The reason so many people feel like this films is three movies slammed together, is because it is. After Bumblebee came out, the studio talked a lot about the plans they had for the next installment, which was constantly changing. One of them was the Beast Wars film mentioned in the video, there was also an Optimus Prime solo movie that was cancelled by the main producer, who claimed that the character was boring like Obi Wan (his words, not mine), as well as a mainline Transformers movie that allegedly had it's script written at the same time as the Beast Wars one (some rumours back then even claimed that the title of this films was: "Transformers 1990"). Now, if you've seen Rise Of The Beasts, you might have noticed that elements from these three concepts are present in the film in one way or another. Make of that what you want.
Man, that sucks. These studios don't even know what they're even doing with the franchises at their disposal. Sounds like they're only making things worse with their interference. "Boring like Obi-Wan?" Are you kidding me?
I may just have low expectations, but I really love this movie. It isn't perfect by any means, the Maximals kinda got done dirty aside from Primal. But it still has so much that I like. It made me feel like a little kid again. And I hope it does continue.
In its defense, apparently the inclusion of G.I. Joe was not planned at first but Paramount then requested G.I. Joe to be included. Also G.I. Joe has always existed with The Transformers although they were only relegated to the comics thus far. 80's Marvel US/UK, Devil's Due, Dreamwave, 2005 IDW and now with *SPOILER* Skybound's energon universe
Small things in the movie that’s highly appreciated is how in action scenes you can see where everyone is and going, like on the mountain you can see arcee and wheeljack drive off the cliff behind optimus.
But it still managed to have boring action that pales in comparison to Bays. The way Bay chose to show the robots helped sell their scale and enormity.
The mountain scene was edited terribly, what are you talking about? It SHOULD have been good, and it COULD have been, but for some bizarre reason the editing was completely nonsensical and made it totally unreadable.

I loved Beasties (Beast Wars’ Canadian name) and I wish they got more than an extended cameo in their own movie. Gary Chalke should have voiced Apelink in the opening scene, would have been a nice nod.
These films always remind me as to why Transformers Prime was _peak_ content; almost _every_ character was utilised well, _including the humans,_ was incredibly respectful of the IP, and had an _amazing_ cast of both characters and voice actors. One of the best parts of the programme was just how _often_ the Decepticons won, giving off the vibe that the Autobots really _were_ outnumbered. Then there was Megatron, who _frequently_ displayed not just his sheer strength, but also his intelligence. Compentant villains really are the best.
@@nukclear2741 Not just that, but Starscream survived quite a while on his own _whilst lacking the ability to transform,_ was a thorn in the sides of both the Autobots _and_ the Decepticons, and even managed to waltz right into the Autobot's base and single-handedly secure the ultimate victory for the Decepticons.
Yeah, I remember the Beast Wars show. It was deceptively intelligent, with a slow reveal mystery where the twist is that they pulled a reverse Samurai Jack and are battling it out on Earth during the time the original Transformers are dormant. Overall some pretty good writing made for a good if dated (visually speaking) show. I always understood it that the Maximals were an evolution from the Autobots and so their tech is just more advance.
You're very much right about it having a lot for fans. I loved the movie when I first watched it, but it was me, later, taking a step back that made me realized all the flaws, especially about how much they give the characters. I got so disappointed we didn't get any of the predacons, it was a good opportunity to have one or two predacons characters actually working with the maximals and having some hints about their rivalry.
I'm the opposite, Im still incredibly disappointed but I appreciate the positives, but then I watch it again, and ugh, I'm even more disappointed than I was the first time😭
I just hated the fact they killed BB at the start only to try and replace him with Pete Davidson...to play the exact same character as BB... Pete is so damn annoying in general but even more so in this damn movie.
I think where they missed the mark was exactly as you put it. Transformers fans were expecting a beast wars movie and the actual beasts got treated like the dinobots from last knight.
this movie has a weird history behind the scenes and it really shows in the final product. but god damnit it's pretty damn decent. It has flaws, but honestly none of them are big enough to hold back the movie from being quite neat and competent. It's so nice that they managed to at least safely land this plane, even if the landing strip was a bit bumpy
Fun Fact, G1 Transformers also existed in the GI Joe universe. We had an episode with wannabe terrorists who get help from a guy that's clearly Cobra Commander in a trench coat. I'm not kidding, they just straight-up put Cobra Commander into the show. 😂
I was born in '88, so I grew up more on Beast Wars than Transformers. Thanks to my older cousins I knew about the original Transformers. I saw this on opening weekend with my younger cousin who only knew Michael Bay's movies, and we both agreed this should have been the first ever live-action Transformers movie to introduce the universe.

I took it as being similar to the first Avengers movie. You get to see and hear the big bad but it's setting up a future confrontation.
If I remember correctly, Unicron is meant to be the overarching antagonist here.
They can easily bring Unicron back later. It's not like they destroyed him, just kept him from getting to Earth.
I mean, Unicron isn't dead. They could totally bring him back later on, but I agree that he had not nearly as much of an impact as he should have.

Some of the most popular comics have gi joe characters in them
Yes, very true, but my worst fear is that the next Transformers movies are gonna be mostly G.I. Joe and not, ya know, Transformers.

I don't get why people are so adamant against the crossover .
@@KamenRider1 because the GI Joe movies suck, and theyre worried that its gonna be "GI Joe with transformers" instead of "transformers with GI Joe".

Now we need a gi joe movie
I have to agree. It was a really good and enjoyable summer flick
Agreed, Rise of the Beast might be better if the story is more interesting
Agreed
I agree it’s a B+ movie
The G.I Joe cut there is perhaps the most hamfisted thing I've ever seen in Cinema. Like Why?
because:
1. transformers and gi joe are both hasbro products
2. hasbro has wanted a gi joe movie reboot for a while
3. transformers and gi joe have crossed over before, in the comics
4. most transformers movies have the military in there somewhere (literally only the original animated movie and this one iirc dont have it)
The original GI Joe and Transformers cartoons take place in the same universe despite minimal crossover, and they’ve had a million crossover in comics since.
there was comics where they crossovered back in the 80’s
Joe".
That's exactly how it felt in the theaters.

So was I in the theatre, I 100% thought it was sector 7 so when they said g I joe it hit me like a truck
The problem with this movie is how it immediately escalated everything from Bumblebee
I liked how Bumblebee dialed everything back a bit and started in a similar setting to the original G1 Transformers and gave little hints of lore n stuff.
They fucked up the pacing yet again
It may not have been from Bay, but it sure as hell felt like it, which is why I had no intention to see it.
I sincerely thought Noah wouldve gotten a Sector seven card. But ...ing Hell the GI JOE card nearly killed me 😂
I remember being told about the GI Joe twist long before I watched the film and STILL thought it was a Sector Seven card.

Cut Throat, the psychotic bird creature.

@@some-replies The first movie came out 16 years ago...how OLD are you?
I'm 30, I was 14 when the movie came out
Yeah people criticise Bay's action style a lot but I think it made these movies way more awesome than they had any right to be, the visual effects were never what made these movies bad(until they got way shittier later)
The CGI even the first movie still holds up amazingly well, all the little parts of the bots moving around and clicking in to place as they transform is incredible.
They also fight on an alien megastructure setpiece against an army of things their size, which also makes them seem less impressive.
I agree. It didn't feel as powerful with the visuals or designs. Yeah, they were more cohesive than the Bay designs, but they ended up like a good 3/4 the size of the bay versions for the most part, and they didn't feel nearly as powerful like you said. The frick you mean? This movie was just mid. It had some cool things, but other than that most of it was bad or just forgettable.
@@TheOneWhoSouls1405 yes thank you! Bay ain't at fault for anything here. ROTB is just a boring dud of a movie.
I imagine Rattrap went to 90's New York, got lost in the sewers and figured "hey, at least Dinobot isn't here."

Thanks everyone
Again all in all Noah is arguably a better written character than Sam at least for TF1 and potentially TF2. We probably can't get Noah or other characters like Noah for the next few movies but he's a good template. I still would like to see Noah having a cameo in the next movies at least if possible.
"Air Razor"

He had to draw from his inner bayverse to beat scourge
That's sweet.

Yup, it has the exact same energy as his ghost performance, i guess you could try and blame it on the voice director. But almost all of the voice actors in this and destiny are great. Dinklage sticks out like a sore thumb in this. Im gonna say it's him that is not good at voice acting.

Fun fact for those who don't know... Beast Wars was is a historically important show because it followed ReBoot in being a fully 3D rendered CGI show on a meager weekly show budget and insane schedule. It could cover megatron's origins as a miner and gladiator before turning into the evil war monger we know today, would be really interesting to see and could be watched by itself and still being able to connect to the other movies without retconning anything since it'd be a true prequel on cybertron

I honestly also quite like the GI Joe teaser at the end and merging the two into a "cinematic universe", as it seems like a natural fit if they take their time and do it right (they won't)
I also really liked it when everyone died and the Street Sharks burst onto the screen yelling "Jawsome!" I cried, I clapped in the theater, I whistled and screamed.

There was so much that happened, it added up to not much happening, and rather quickly
Basically the Transformers, G.I.Joe, Jem and The Holograms, and Inhumanoids cartoons all exist in the same universe.
