- HOW-TO: Installing Autometer Electric Water Temp and Oil Pressure Gauges in your foxbody. Installing LMR's center console gauge panel pod.
In this video I show you step by step installing a 2 gauge pod center console panel with 2 AutoMeter Sport Comp electric gauges on my '86. The gauge pod goes in place of the 79-86 information panel on the center console. Кино
Just installed an Auto Meter Pro Comp oil pressure gauge in my 05 GT. Love the old school look, and of course having accurate engine vitals is a must. It is a job and a half though!
Nice work Mike, interior with the headliner and gauges looking good bro!
Thank you sir!
Nyce Car... i just bought a 1985 T-Top car yesterday...Love having T-Tops again...Like my 80 trans Am back in the late 80's.... Those were the day's... Reliving my youth hahahha
wow...looks like we have the same Shifter too lol... Hurst...Tremac 5 speed... Rad ...
Nicely job! Someone that is not afraid to work on their own ride.
hey this is Earl do you still have your used short throw shift if you do do u want to sale it hit me back I have a 88 5.0 lx
Earl Pough I'm not selling a short throw shifter.
Im a VDO GAUGE guy,, like autometer I allways use VDO in my cars, realy enjoyed your vid,😁👍
Very clean install Mike and yes my first thoughts b4 you even installed the gauges was to get leds.
Strang and odd timing lol I just got an email from a company asking me to install their LEDs and review them on the channel. So, I'll take them up on the offer for sure. I knew the incandescent would be dim but good god, its bad at night.
Sorry i haven’t been commenting been real busy at work! The install looked pretty easy!
Nice clean job-well done
Gotta love having Summit within driving distance. The one near me in Ohio is about an hour and 20 minutes away. Always worth the drive.
Your dash looks great!
Thank you!
Summit was amazing, talk about kid in a candy store.
Sweet glad you two we're able to make it out there. Cant believe you drove from Austin! dedication, love it.
I like the gauge pod. I'm going to have to do something like that
Nice car man, currently on the hunt for an 86 T-Top coupe wish me luck haha
Nice job., I think the led 194 bulb fits the auto meter gauges .
To live near a actual summit , my dream!!!
Cool id throw some 194 leds in there, great work man!
Yes sir. It definitely does the job. Ultimately I still would like the Dakota digital just to clean it up, not a huge fan of the nonworking stock gauges now
HOUSE OF DULA I thing the cars comp uses the factory gauge readings to adjust timing and fuel on cold startups. Check that out too.
Well yeah, crap, thats a good point...I will check that out, far as I know thats the only sensor and does use it for the ECU
Another great video Mike!! I would really like to share pics of my 85 t top build. Ive been hitting it hard for 3 weeks now. Ive been using your videos for the weatherstripping.
Thanks Ray, yeah man feel free to email them to me at prisonplanet88@gmail.com
Bad ass Mustang!
good job brother love that you solder and shrink your exterior connections you should do the carpet card delete on your doors
Yeah door panels need fixed, they the single biggest eyesore in the interior next to the jb welded dash from the PO! door panel vinyl is good. Need the deletes and new back board.
Get lmr to send you the nice black vinyl door delete panels looks 1000 times better
Man I wish they would send me stuff lol. I'll be honest I tried to partner with them, no go lol. All good, Im not doing any of this for a handout but it would help with content and being able to make more videos.
exactly its more for the content then anything even if they gave you a nice discount i worked at a shoo and did atleast 10 foxbody resto and the owners dropped serious money im getting a notch soon and im scared
Good job!☺
Great video
Mike, what brand and where did purchase the sending for oil pressure and water temperature.
I put in a gas tank from a 91 fox to 86 fox. The electrical signal or resistance is different.
I understand how Autometer gauges different resistance 1986 and earlier foxes. Where did purchase the oil pressure and water temperature units? These units match the Autometer gauges. Thanks.
Nice! Makes my day to find a new Dula video! Those gauges look great. Wondering if you intend to paint the black gauge mount to match the gray console?
Lol I appreciate that man. No, I’m going to leave it black so that it matches the ashtray and shifter trim ring.
What kind of paint to use to paint my console? I thought gloss might look weird. I also want to throw in those guages replacing the quartz clock and light.
Nice job bud. If you ever decide to install the Dakota digital you will be very pleased with it.
Thats what I really want one day for sure. This install for me was purely the fact that I needed an immediate need to monitor oil and water. I guess you have the dakota digital and liking it?
Yes, I do love mine.
Hey whata up Mike, so I have a 87 i just did a water temp gauge but is not reading, i did the same that u did, and what should be my normal running temp? Normal ambient temp its about 100+
you can also run a t fitting on the oil pressure and buy a different water neck that has a fitting then you can run your new gauges and the factory guages
thats what i did on my 89 to keep all factory and add extras
love your videos great information for i have a 86 like yours in the middle of making seat repairs and pulling the carpet..the locked connectors for the information center are a bear for me to disconnect without destroying them...what is your best method to removing them?
Oh man, patience lol they are on very tight. I think MOST my connects were likely broken already from the previous owner. I like to use the plastic trim removal tool to help pry it, its just tight back there.
How to get locking ttops for an 83?
My half sister works for Dakota Digital. I want to get them through her but worried about how they will work with my Terminator X.
When you applied your Teflon tape, how many wraps did you do per, if you recall?
Man, idk, 3 or 4 if I recall.
Very nice job. Please send link to finding proper gauges for this set up. And could you have used led bulbs? What sizw?. Thanks
Hey Bruce. Water temp gauge is www.summitracing.com/tx/parts/atm-3337 and oil pressure is www.summitracing.com/tx/parts/atm-3327 And YES I should have used LED. Should be 194 LED bulbs. Im looking at these www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-wedge-base/194-led-bulb-5-smd-led-tower-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/206/#/attributes/13
Hey Mike, glad to see you finally got around to putting in a good water temp gauge. Noticed you did the twisting of the wires with the drill as we talked about last year. Did you try to replace the factory IVR on the back of the gauge cluster? It's only about a $10 part and may solve the problem with the stock gauges. No, you cannot run the same sending wire for both the stock and aftermarket gauges as they are different ohms. I use the same LMR console face plate for my 86 GT T Top and run phantom water temp and a volt gauge- what the hell is Ford thinking about with a damn Amp gauge? Also, watch it with using that much teflon tape on the sending units. It can cause a bad ground and lead to incorrect readings. I use teflon paste instead. For the oil pressure gauge I drilled and tapped the factory sending log and installed my aftermarket gauge into it so I can keep the stock gauge as well. Finally, yes put in some LED lights in all your aftermarket gauges,,, it will draw less amps and be much brighter, You can swap the bulbs in your factory gauge cluster too. The car has come such a long way since you first got it man. So happy to see that you are getting a blast driving it. It sounds and looks awesome.
All great pointers! and yes I used the twisted wire trick you suggested, worked great and will be using that method much more. I didnt even think about the grounding issue man! Thats a new one for me and makes perfect sense. The thought about replacing the IVR, but honestly still wanted numbers but yeah, apms?? lol These are ll great pointers man, ever thought about starting a youtube channel? ;)
I dont have anything but a cell phone to take videos and never posted a video before. Kind of old school. I can see how much time it takes for you to actually do the work with a camera going. Maybe I'lll try to do one and let you critique it.. ha. Again appreciate your channel and providing these videos. You are helping a lot of guys to see how to work on these cars.
I think I'm going to go with the Dakota Digital black alloy/white on my 89 when the time (cash) comes. Project #10,001.
Thats what I "really" wanted and still do. The white face gages I really like especially on an 86. But same here. Pretty pricy.
Keep up the good work Mike! It was nice to meet you at TMI. Hopefully you found your Go Pro. Is your email a reference to Clutch?
Hay man! Good catch! Yessir prisonplanet is a reference to the Clutch song. Been a fan since High School. Pretty cool you caught that. And believe it or not the TMI organizer has it, and will be shipping it back to me. Great to meet you as well, sorry it was a bit hectic, and cold!
Are the gauges still working? Any issues?
No issues at all! These autometers will run forever
nice work but...why didn't you install them on the pillar?
I didnt want too many on the pillar, just a 2 gauge pod on the pillar. Right now 1 of the 2 on the pillar is the AEM wideband A/F gauge. The top most pod will house the boost gauge when the On3 turbo goes on.
Didn't paint the bracket to match the counsel? Left it black?
That would look funny imo. The shifter trim ring and ash tray that up against the pod is black.
@@HOUSEOFDULA Ok.
But wait, how will I know that my lights are out or my gas is low...😀
You must be a security tech, Ive never seen anyone else twist wires with a drill.
Curious "what" the clunk was in the rear?
The exhaust was hitting the axle. I had to loosen it up and push it all backwards to give it more clearance. Always thought it was the tail pipes but it was the tube looping over the top of the axle.
@@HOUSEOFDULA interesting. Got a clunking-clanging noise myself out back, only hear it turning right though.
Maybe I'll take a closer look at the exhaust pipes.
Yeah it was barely kissing the passenger axle towards the front of the car, its moved a couple of times, had to go back reposition it and tighten it back up.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁
Best way to be able to run both temperature gauges (factory and Autometer) would be to tap both sensors using a tee fitting. I bought the following when I installed a Holley Sniper EFI system, that way I still have my factory gauge and use the required sensor from Holley to operate the throttle body.

Could you elaborate? Using a Ron Francis wiring kit and they want me to tap into the cluster which has the printed circuit board. And I'm trying to find a way to use the original cluster without the circuit boards.
If you are looking on getting a 90 degree oil filter adapter from ford performance I have found a place that has 150 in stock here is the link www.scienceofspeed.com/index.php/genuine-ford-racing-oil-filter-adapter-kit-m-6880-a50.html
Skip to 14:30 dont waste time with the watching
I waste a lot of time talking. Just what I do. lol
Gross, who does that, you are ruining the look of the fox on the interior
Really, by adding two gauges where the LED info center was? Ruing the whole interior? Come on man... lol
@@HOUSEOFDULA Yeah, think about it, the airplane cockpit style of the dash is for the dash, now it has the two oddly placed gauges in one of the most characteristic parts on the interior, the diagnostic lights
