As an owner of a 2020 Avalon it brought a warm smile over me when I seen it made first place. Especially when I thought for sure it would be a Lexus. They always leave Avalon in the background because it’s often overlooked by the Lexus ES 350 or Camry. It’s a popularity thing I suppose.

We were going to wait until the 26-27 year model of the redesigned Tacoma so the bugs of the redesign could get worked out.
Then I found out that Toyota was dropping the proven, durable and reliable 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6 and replacing it with a Turbo 4 banger.
I immediately started looking for a particular 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs and the TRD performance exhaust.
23 came and went with no luck in finding the last pickup that I’ll ever own.
On 2/29/24 we stopped by our local dealership to look at a used SR5 4WD Access cab. It wasn’t what I wanted but I needed the 6’ bed.
We would have bought it, but it had the Gutless 159 horsepower 2.7L 4 cyl engine with an automatic transmission.
I told the salesman exactly what we were looking for.
As it turned out they had a new “leftover” 23 TRD that was Exactly what we were looking for.
The dealership had it for 8 months and it never sold because everyone wanted a 5’ bed.
    The MSRP was $51,848.
The dealership threw in a Tri-fold tonneau cover, running boards, the car care kit, an 8 year 75K mile bumper to bumper warranty, tire rotation and oil changes for as long as we owned the truck. They gave all of this to us for Free. The dealership also dropped the price down to $48K.
Within a week after buying it I installed a cold air intake. And after 2 months I had the OTT installed.
My TRD now has 318 horsepower and 295# ft of torque at 2,300 RPM.
My fuel economy also went Up by 1-3mpg Better fuel efficiency.
While I’m driving on I-90 with the cruise set on 82mph I’m getting 24mpg.
I’m so happy with us buying my 23 TRD.
I’m quite sure that after I’m dead my wife will still be using it to plow the 5-7 feet of snow off our private road every winter until she too passes away.
Historically a NA engine will outlast a Turbo engine.
Since retiring I only drive 8-10K miles per year, so even after 25 years my Tacoma will still have less than 250K miles on it.

I've been watchin' ur videos for awhile. U give good advice on the most reliable cars. But why u hate Nissan so much? I've had 2 of them and they turned out to be reliable tanks. An 07' maxima last 267,000 miles, and driving an Altima rite now with just 131,000 mi and it runs excellent. Nissan make great engines u never talk about that. We no the primary problem with this car brand is the CVT transmissions. They can be reliable long as u take care of the CVT by changing the fluid on time and not drive 'em like a speed demon and not add towing weight to the vehicle. I've seen some Nissans go OVER 300,000 mi with the same QR25DE 4 cylinder engines. And now the newer models from what I see have very few recalls with the exception of their tubo charged engines. Naturally aspirated is a much better choice. None the less, give THIS car brand some credit!

I am pretty sure Mazda is up there as well these days. While their track record doesn't go back as far as the others (Honda and Toyota), I believe Toyota actually owns a stake in Mazda (something like 20% iirc) and Mazda car parts like transmissions are Toyota built now or at least some of it. The days of Jatco transmissions and being partly Ford owned are behind Mazda. Do your research, but I believe Mazda is a very reliable brand mostly all around now.
Also even Toyota and Honda have had their problems. Honda's 1.5L with the turbo has had some issues (newer Accord, Civic and CRV), Toyota Prius have had issues with blown head gaskets, and Toyota's 3.0L engine is being recalled iirc. I would easily take a New Mazda SUV/Crossover over a Honda one if it has that 1.5L.

How about a hybrid which does not cost five grand to replace the battery ?

    • @codincoman9019
      @codincoman9019 3 месяца назад +1

This is what I researched before buying my Lexus UX 250h F Sport.
The total cost of replacing the hybrid battery (labour included) is 3200€.
Please check the facts, a hybrid battery is many times smaller than a BEV one (that is truly very expensive) and smaller than a PHEV battery (that is more expensive, around 10k with the labour included).
With yearly fuel savings of around 1'000€, it takes less than 5 years to offset the battery replacement cost plus the price difference vs. the similar ICE car. So a good (Japanese) hybrid is offering a much lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) than its ICE counterpart, because the hybrid battery is guaranteed for 10 years (with some batteries reaching even 14 years!).
While BEVs are unreliable, expensive, dangerous, impractical, more controllable etc. the (self-charging) hybrids are the best of both worlds, being the most reliable, having a low TCO etc. And the PHEV is technically speaking related rather to the BEV concept and its huge issues.
But do not confuse one type of hybrid with the other, because they cannot be in the same category, just as a HEV (SCH=Self-Charging Hybrid) is very different from a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), even though the propaganda puts them all together, as EV (Electric Vehicle) - in order to be able to report continuous market growth.

Maybe you could have convinced me that the Tundra and the Tacoma were good buys a couple of years ago. In fact the Tacoma has had a long history of of serious rust problems. In 2008, Toyota proactively announced a 15-year, unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty for 1995-2000 model years due to inadequate rustproofing and frame corrosion issues affecting over 800,000 Tacoma's! Imagine if you bought a 1995 or even 2000 Tacoma rust bucket and had to wait over a decade in some cases for Toyota to act (2008)! Having said that Toyota has recently had serious issues with engines and transmissions in the Tacoma and the Tundra. Like you said there are always hiccups with new models, but my local dealer in Ontario is selling a 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid for $95,148 plus tax....a mid-sized 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid for $89,500 plus tax (A MID-SIZED PICKUP TRUCK!!!!). That is one huge hiccup for what has been a disastrous launch for these two vehicles! Even the "bullet proof" 2024 Lexus LX has the same engine problems. And we all know how cheap Toyota sells the Lexus models lol! The "hiccups" don't stop there, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published ten consumers’ complaints about Tacoma transmissions, on new trucks with low mileage. Two other powertrain-related complaints were for the engine stalling and not restarting; and for a failed universal joint bearing and subsequent driveshaft damage! I think the executives at Toyota have been drinking their own Kool Aide and think that the public has completely lost their minds! So we already know that the new Toyota's are over priced and unreliable. So I can buy what might be a less reliable vehicle, get an extended warranty for peace of mind and still pay thousands of dollars less that I would for a Toyota or a Lexus!

    • @codincoman9019
      @codincoman9019 3 месяца назад

Do you even understand how statistics work?
Because Toyota has more than 20 models and you consider today Toyota as unreliable because of reliability issues (to be fixed with recalls) with only two models?!?
Even though Tacoma and Tundra will be proven as very unreliable, that doesn't mean that Aygo, Yaris, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Crown, 4Runner etc. are not reliability champions.
Compare Toyota with RAM, GM, Ford, BMW etc. (that barely have few models that are OK vs. all the unreliable others) and maybe you'll understand what statistics mean and why Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, Acura, Honda (plus Suzuki, Mitsubishi outside NA) are owning the reliability top.

      So what?
The cost of replacing the (self-charging) hybrid battery (labour included) plus the price difference vs. the similar ICE car is being offset in a few years (while the battery is guaranteed for 10 years).
Thus the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is lower for the top (Japanese) hybrids vs. ICE.
And the Consumer Reports annual reliability survey revealed that the hybrids are the most reliable segment.
Do not confuse the HEV (self-charging hybrids) with the PHEV (plug in hybrids).

For brand new cars, Subaru rates far above GM certainly.

Tundra and Tacoma will be nowhere near the top in 5 years. Ram may actually have a better reliability rating. I don't know what went wrong with Toyota, but if their remodeled cars and SUVs start having the same problems people will turn away in droves, because the only reason to buy a Toyota is because of their reputation for reliability. Other than that they are bland, boring cars, and have never been much fun to drive.

For the name of all that is holy.
How many cars do you see cars with 400k on the road?
You are so biased and base everything on STUDIES.
why don't you go and ask mechanics who work on them??

@@dkrawk8309 Tell me you know little about cars without saying it directly, snowflake 🤣
Some of the studies he based his video on are done with the help of thousands of mechanics, like ISeeCars and CarEdge are doing.
Plus the Consumer Reports surveys that are using lots of data from the owners.
Anyhow, you are probably not able to understand what I wrote.

Sorry, but NO cars built today will be extremely reliable. ALL car manufacturers cut corners, using inferior/cheap parts, use DI/FI, and they are nowhere as reliable as cars made 10-20 years ago.

Not everything is about the car reliability. I don’t think everyone wants to drive the same damn car for 16 years. Also you need to have fun driving. Honda and Toyota are super boring. I only like the new Lexus GX on your list.
