Listening into FRS and MURS users on a UV-5R, improving distance with continuous squelch tone

- My family prefers to use MURS radios and we use a squelch tune while we travel. This allows us to open up this squelch more and hear each other for longer distances without the need for absurd power levels.
Ctcss s not a passcode. It is just a code that keeps the radio from waking up when it hears just any transmission. It is basically a filter.
Everyone else can hear what everyone is saying on the CTCSS enabled radio. All that’s happening is we are blocking our ability to hear what they are saying about us as the sneak up on our 6
He starts the video by flexing his range 😂
That's kind of the entire purpose of the video so I wanted people to either be invested or not 😅
THIS IS CRAZY ! Damn! SO COOOL !
Why are nobody doing videos about these radios as police scanners? 🤔
A lot of police have switched to trunked digital. All of Ohio is on trunked 700 to 900 MHz. You need a decoder or a computer to listen to audio
@@AaronBlankenshipsame here in my city and county as well
Even 9 is a very high squelch setting.
@brianwilson8525 I have tried 1 and 3 also and both antennas and still only get bus dispatch and ham radio.🤔
I get city, county police and fire in my small California town…….
Good info
I'm using your passcode. Lol
I tried your ctcss 254.1 and 151.940 for 2 radios and nothing is transmitting .
@@barryinn1778 Not all radios can transmit on those frequencies.
I cant receive or monitor FRS on mine.
I think I have a dud. Firmware is 210223m.
People can hear your transmissions still, you just wont receive theirs if they do not have the CTCSS set to the same, correct?
Correct
@@AaronBlankenship sorry for the follow-up question. Is there any benefit to using both CTCSS and DCS 'privacy' codes at the same time?
@@softscrubbno
I am trying to find some frequencies that will work on these 2 radios UV-5R+ and a UV-5RV2+ any ideas?
@@barryinn1778 The radio model does not indicate what frequency it can be used on. The firmware controls that and if you don't know, you'll have to research and test it yourself.
This is why I recommend no one should purchase a UV-5R anymore.
@@AaronBlankenship I agree, these belong to a friend who uses them for vacation communication , he wanted me to program these for him. But I am not good doing so. thanks
My start a talking a foreign language how do you get it back to English
You will have to Google search that problem, lots of people have had it so you should be able to find a technique for your radio.
Just change voice mode to English menu option number 14 for the uv5r bofang radio
Thank you for your help I figured it out with your help appreciate it
Learn to program it
Can anyone help me, i just got the old looking uv5r and i cant unlock it. Ive got the bf88e and know the frequencys, so i wanna get into 462.575 but i can only go up to 439.998
I've heard that some of the new ones cannot be unlocked. I don't recommend buying UV-5R anymore, you should be purchasing UV-13 Pro and version similar to it.
I should have checked once more.. thank you! But i could choose the programmed channels of my bf88e with the ones you told me?✌🏽
@@Real_Sanjo You might be able to change it with the chirp program
@@AaronBlankenship i just bought a uv 5R, it arrived today and i was still able to unlock it, so i guess there is still older ones floating around, i got mine on cyber monday sale for 12.99$ its silly i dunno what unlocking it actually does, but i got the "FACTORY" message and it's not bricked or anyting so i guess it worked lol (i do not transmit, in fact i have 3d printed a ptt block so there would never be any issues, it's as if my baofeng doesnt have one)
Make sure you have a dual or triband antenna that can reach those frequencies .
but how do i scan all of gmrs and murs channels at one time???
Once you have all of the channels input and the radio is in channel mode, you can hold the scan button on the keypad and it will cycle through all of them.
@@AaronBlankenship i have to load all 22 chanels???thanks for the responce
@@kcstafford2784download a program called chirp (you will need the usb cable too) and it’s super easy to program all those at once
@@kcstafford2784Yes but it takes 5 minutes if you use chirp.
Why did you put a paper on your Baofeng saying MU-5 Radioddity? Is the MU-5 your dream radio or something and just can't afford it yet?
For the sad hams. The hardware is identical, only the firmware differs.
@@AaronBlankenship You sound like that loser notarubicon.
Found the sad ham lol
